Important

•Toestablishandmaintaincommunication,allwirelesssettingsmustbeexactlythesameintheAxisproductasinthe

accesspointorad-hocnetwork.

•AlwayscongureorchangethewirelesssettingsintheAxisproductrst,beforechangingthesettingsinthewireless

accesspoint.

•Keys,passphrasesandcerticatesthatareusedforsecuritymustbeenteredmanually.ContactyourNetworkAdministrator

fortherequirementsfortheselectedaccesspointorad-hocnetwork.

ThewirelesssettingscontrolhowtheAxisproductinteractswiththewirelessnetwork.Apartfromidentifyingthewirelessnetwork,it

isalsopossibletoenablewirelessencryption.

SelectEnablecongestioncontroltosecurethewirelessconnectionbetweentheAxisproductandaccesspointincongested

environments,forexamplewheretherearemanyavailablenetworksandwheremanydevicesareusingthesameaccesspoint.

CongestioncontrolusesaRequestToSend/ClearToSend(RTS/CTS)handshaketoreserveaccesstothewirelessmediabefore

transmittingapacket.Usingthehandshakedecreasesthroughputsinceitaddsanoverhead.Insomesituations,however,the

overheadoftheRTS/CTShandshakeislowerthantheoverheadcausedbycollisionsonthewirelessmedia.Congestioncontrolis

disabledbydefault.

SelectEnableWLANpairingbuttontoallowthewirelessAxisproducttoconnecttoanaccesspointbypushingabuttononbothof

thedeviceswithina120secondtimewindow.Duringthistimethedeviceswillautomaticallydiscovereachotherandagreeona

conguration.

Makesuretheaccesspointalsohaspushbuttonconguration(PBC)enabledandthattheAxisproductisnotconnectedtothewired

network.AfterasuccessfulpairinganyWLANsettingssetbytheuserintheAxisproductareoverwritten.TheWLANpairingbutton

isenabledbydefault;deselectthisoptiontopreventunauthorizedWLANpairing.

SSIDisthenameoftheselectedwirelessnetwork,whichmustbeexactlythesameasthenameinthewirelessaccesspoint.Ifthe

eldisleftblanktheAxisproductwillnotconnecttoanywirelessnetwork.

SelectthenetworkSecuritymethod.Allsettingsmustmatchthesettingsintheaccesspoint.Thefollowingsecuritymethodsare

supported,whereWPA

-/WPA2

-EnterpriseismoresecurethanWPA-/WPA2-PSK,whichinturnismoresecurethanWEP:

•WPA-/WPA2–PSK.Seepage43.

•WPA-/WPA-Enterprise.Seepage44.

•WEP(notrecommended).Seepage45.

•Nosecurity(notrecommended).Seepage45.

Ifapplicable,selecttheNetworktype.SelectMastertoaccessthenetworkviaanaccesspointorAd-hoctoaccessanyother

wirelessdeviceandcreatealocalnetwork.

Ad-hocmodeallowsuserstoformawirelessLANwithoutconnectionthroughanaccesspoint.TheAxisproductcan,forexample,

connectpoint-to-pointtoanexistingad-hocnetwork,orifthereisnone,createoneitself.Ad-hocconnectionmaybeusefulin

certaininstallationsandfortroubleshootingbutisnottherecommendedmethod.Thead-hocoptionisonlyavailablewhen

supportedbytheselectedsecuritymethod.

WPA

-/WPA2

-PSK

ThesecuritymethodWPA-/WPA2–PSKisdesignedforsmallnetworksanddoesnotrequireanauthenticationserver.TheAxis

productusesaPSK(Pre-SharedKey)toauthenticatewiththeaccesspoint.Thekeycanbeenteredeitherasmanualhex—a64

hexdecimalnumber(0–9,A-F)—orapassphraseusing8–63ASCIIcharacters.Thelongerthepassphrase,themoresecureisthekey.
