1. SAFETY
▲ DANGER! Stop compressing the spring before the coil windings touch. Exercise particular caution when using an air impact
wrench.
WARNING! Ensure Health & Safety, local authority, and general workshop practice regulations are adhered to when using this
equipment.
WARNING! Wear approved safety face shield (standard spectacles are not adequate).
WARNING! DO NOT compress the spring to an extent where the jaws touch.
8 DO NOT operate spring compressor if parts are damaged or missing as this may cause failure and/or personal injury.
8 DO NOT force the spring compressor to achieve a task it was not designed to perform.
8 DO NOT allow untrained persons to use the spring compressor.
9 Familiarise yourself with the applications, limitations and potential hazards of the spring compressor.
9 Maintain the spring compressor in good condition. Replace or repair damaged parts. Use genuine parts only. Unauthorised parts may
be dangerous and will invalidate the warranty.
9 Keep the work area clean, uncluttered and ensure there is adequate lighting.
9 Keep hands and body clear of the spring when operating the spring compressor.
9 Maintain correct balance and footing. Ensure the floor is not slippery and wear non-slip shoes.
9 Remove ill fitting clothes. Remove ties, watches, rings, other loose jewellery. Contain and/or tie back long hair.
9 Wear appropriate protective clothing.
9 When not in use clean and store the spring compressor in a safe, dry, childproof location.
2. INTRODUCTION
Heavy-duty coil spring compressor with hardened steel body and force screw. Ensures smooth compression of spring.

4. OPERATION
4.1. Remove strut from vehicle according to procedure recommended in the
manufacturer’s service instructions, or a proprietary manual.
4.2. Undo the force screw on each compressor screw so that it is long enough to
compress as much of the spring length as is possible.
4.3. The two compressor screws should be attached to the spring directly opposite each
otherasshowning.1.
4.4. Attachtherstcompressorscrewbyplacingthelowerjawlowdownonthespring.
Slide the moving jaw upwards and place it as high as possible on the spring.
4.5. Ensure that the compressor jaws are correctly aligned then rotate force screw
clockwise until the lower jaw contacts the spring.
4.6. Attach the second compressor screw in the same way ensuring that it is parallel to
andoppositetherstscrew.
4.7. Makeanalcheckthatthejawsarecorrectlyaligned,andthetwoscrewsare
paralleltoeachother,seeg.1.
4.8. Commence initial spring compression by equally rotating the bodies of the screw
compressors anticlockwise.
4.9. Continue full compression of the spring by turning the force screws clockwise
using a suitable 19mm socket or spanner. DO NOT use air tools. The coil will need
to be compressed equally on each side, alternate between each arm so as to not
unbalance the spring. Compress the spring without allowing it to become coil bound.

4.10. Whenspringissucientlycompressedandisfreetorotateonthestrut,removetopplatefromstrut,thenwithdrawthespring.DO
NOT drop the compressed spring assembly or subject it to any shock.
4.11. Reverse the above procedure to replace spring.
5. MAINTENANCE
5.1. Before each use check the spring compressor set components to ensure they
are not damaged or worn. If suspect DO NOT use the unit, but contact your local
Sealey Dealer who will be able to advise you regarding repair kits and spare parts.
5.2. Keep the force screws well lubricated.
5.3. Keep the spring compressor set components clean, and when not in use store in
a safe, dry, childproof location.
