There are a few things I always recommend you do before using any kind of hot tool on your hair...
• prep wet hair with Leave-In Conditioner for softness, and an extra layer of protection
• use your favorite heat protectant if your hair is thin, brittle, dry, damaged, or lacking moisture
I also like to tell my clients to start on a lower temperature setting and bump it up
if they need to in order to avoid heat damage.
My general recommendations are:
thin or fine 280˚ F
medium or wavy 365˚ F
coarse or curly 400˚ F
professional or advanced users 440˚ F
MY TIPS FOR...
STRAIGHTENING:
- the thinner the section, the straighter your hair will get with one pass of the flat iron
- always keep the flat iron moving to avoid creasing and excess heat
- for optimum straightness, lead your flat iron down with a comb
WAVING:
- prep wet hair with a styling product like Volumizing Mousse or Thickening Spray
before blowdrying for extra support and hold
- in order to avoid creasing the hair while creating waves, always keep your flat iron moving
- if you do get a crease when flat iron waving, simply spray a little bit of Hair Water on
that spot and let it air dry before giving it another try
CURLING:
- prep wet hair with a small amount of Volumizing Mousse or Thickening Spray before
blowdrying to get extra support and hold
- avoid too much product before ironing to avoid “sticking” which stops the flat iron and causes creasing
- start with your flat iron at the top or middle of each section, depending on where you want your curl to start
- keep the iron moving as you curl to avoid creases and hot spots from putting excess heat on the hair
