IMPORTANT SAFETY
INSTRUCTIONS
When using an electrical appliance, especially
when children are present, precautions should
always be taken, including the following:
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS
BEFORE USING THIS
APPLIANCE
DANGER Any appliance is electrically
live even when the switch is off.
To reduce the risk of death by electric shock:
1. Always unplug this appliance from the
electrical outlet immediately after using and
before cleaning.
2. Do not reach for an appliance that has fallen
into water. Unplug it immediately.
3. Do not use while bathing or in the shower.
4. Do not place or store appliance where it can
fall or be pulled into a tub or sink.
5. Do not place in, or drop into water or
other liquids.
6. Use only in a dry area. Do not operate in a wet
or moist condition.
WARNING To reduce the risk of burns,
electrocution, fire, or injury to persons:
1. An appliance should never be left
unattended when plugged in.
2. This appliance is not a toy and is not to be used
by children.
3. Close supervision is necessary when this
appliance is used by or near children, or
individuals with certain disabilities. Unsupervised
use could result in fire or personal injury.
4. DO NOT OVERFILL, as this may cause hot water
to drip.
5. Use this appliance only for its intended use as
described in this manual. Do not use attachments
not recommended by the manufacturer.
6. Never operate this appliance if it has a
damaged cord or plug, if it is not working
properly, or if it has been dropped or damaged,
or dropped into water. Do not attempt to repair
the appliance. Incorrect reassembly or repair
could cause a risk of fire, electric shock, or
injury to persons when the appliance is used.
Return the appliance to an authorized service
center for examination and repair.
7. Do not carry this appliance by the supply cord
or use cord as a handle.
8. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
Do not allow cord to contact heated surfaces.
Do not pull or twist cord. Let appliance cool
completely before putting away. Loop cord
loosely around appliance when storing.
9.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance
has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the
other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one
way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse
the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified
electrician to install the proper outlet.Do not change
the plug in any way.
10. Never drop or insert any object into
any opening.
11. Do not use outdoors. Do not operate where
aerosol (spray) products are being used or where
oxygen is being administered.
12. We recommend you do not use an extension
cord to operate this appliance. If an extension cord
is absolutely necessary, a 15 ampere rated cord
should be used. Cords rated for less amperage
may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange
the cord so that the cord cannot be pulled or
tripped over.
13. Surfaces of this appliance may be hot when
in use. Do not let heated surfaces touch eyes or
bare skin.
14. Always disconnect appliance from electrical
outlet when filling with water or emptying,
and when not in use.
15. To disconnect, turn all controls to the OFF
position, then remove plug from outlet.
16. Never steam clothes you, or someone else,
are wearing.
17. While emitting steam, this appliance may
cause burns if it is used too close to the skin, scalp
or eyes, or if it is used incorrectly. To reduce the
risk of contact with hot water emitting from steam
vents, test appliance before each use by holding it
away from body.
18. Do not operate steamer without properly filling
the water container. Steamer needs to cool down
before refilling with water.
19. Never yank cord to disconnect from outlet.
Depress the ON/OFF button to turn steamer OFF.
With dry hands, grasp plug and pull to disconnect.
20. Burns could occur from touching hot parts, hot
water, or steam. Use care when you turn a steam
appliance upside down – there may be hot water
in reservoir.
21. Do not hold hand in front of steam.
22. To reduce likelihood of circuit overload, do not
operate another high-wattage appliance on the
same circuit.
SAVE THESE
INSTRUCTIONS
NOTE: Before using the garment steamer for
the first time, it is recommended to operate the
steamer for approximately 5 minutes. Turn off
and unplug the unit and allow it to cool. Empty
container and refill before use.
OPERATING
INSTRUCTIONS
FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY
HOW TO USE
1. Be sure garment steamer is unplugged.
2. While holding main body of steamer, twist
steamer head counterclockwise and lift it to
remove.
3. For best results, fill reservoir with distilled water
to max fill line. DO NOT OVERFILL.
4. Replace steamer head on steamer body, twisting
clockwise into locked position.
5. If steam is spitting or dripping, this indicates
that there may be too much water in the unit. For
the best performance, we recommend filling the
reservoir with less water.
6. Place appliance on a flat surface in an upright
position. Plug into electrical outlet. Press ON/OFF
button to ON position. The green POWER light
will illuminate.
7. In about a minute, the unit will begin to emit a
continuous flow of steam from the steam vents.
The garment steamer is now ready for use.
8. Hold steamer by its handle when using. Do not
grasp body of unit while steaming garments or
while unit is hot.
9. Hold fabric taut, and direct the flow of steam
toward the garment to remove wrinkles. Do not
touch fabric with steam head.
10. Approximate runtime is 5 minutes per fill-up.
11. For best results, maintain an upright position
when in use. Recommended steaming time is 5
minutes per use.
DECALCIFICATION
If the appliance begins to produce steam more
slowly than usual or stops producing steam and
then starts again, you may need to decalcify your
steamer. Decalcification refers to removing the
calcium deposits that form over time on the metal
parts of the steamer. For best performance of your
Conair
®
Fabric Steamer, decalcify the unit from
time to time. The frequency depends upon the
hardness of your tap water and how often you use
the steamer.
NOTE: To reduce or eliminate the occurrence
of mineral buildup, we recommend the use of
distilled water in the unit.
To decalcify, use a solution of 1/3 white vinegar
and 2/3 water in the water reservoir. Plug the unit
into an electrical outlet. Turn to the ON position
and run until half the amount has steamed out.
Turn the unit to the OFF position, unplug from
electrical outlet, and allow to sit for 30 minutes.
Remove excess water from the reservoir by
unscrewing the top of the steamer and holding it
over the sink, allowing the water to pour from the
internal reservoir. Repeat the above procedure as
many times as necessary until a normal steam
rate returns, usually 2–3 times. With each repeated
cycle, use a fresh solution of vinegar and water.
Run one cycle of fresh, cold water through the unit
at the completion of decalcification before using
the unit again to steam garments.
HOW TO STEAM TO REMOVE WRINKLES
Grasp the garment steamer by the handle with
the steam jets facing away from you. Begin at
the bottom of the fabric to allow the steam to rise
inside and outside, removing wrinkles. Slowly
move the nozzle from the bottom to the top of
the fabric. Some fabrics are best steamed on the
underside of the material. This will allow the fibers
of the fabric to relax, eliminating wrinkles. NOTE:
Test fabric for color fastness in an inconspicuous
spot. Drape linens, towels, handkerchiefs and
ties over a rod or place on a towel rack. Heavier
fabrics may require repeated steaming. Repeat as
necessary. With practice, you will gain speed and
efficiency. You will soon learn which fabrics require
multiple steam applications. Do not directly touch
fabric with the steam head.
TO STEAM GARMENTS OR DRAPES
1. Hang up garment/drapery.
2. Gently hold fabric taut with one hand and hold
steamer with the other hand. Hold steamer near
the garment/drapery so that steam is directed
toward it. Use only in vertical position.
3. Slowly run the steam head up and down and
side to side. To remove stubborn wrinkles, move
the garment steamer very slowly.
TO MAKE CREASES OR PLEATS
1. Hang garment.
2. Fold fabric where crease or pleat is desired. Hold
fold in place while applying steam directly to fold.
TO STEAM SHOULDERS AND SLEEVES
1. Hang garment, preferably on a padded hanger.
2. Fill out shoulders or sleeves with folded towel.
3. Apply steam to garment.
CAUTION: If hanging garment on a
door while steaming, be careful not
to damage the door with steam.
WARNING: DO NOT OVERFILL!
Add water to, or below, the MAX FILL LINE
indicated on the water tank window.
