For two years from date of purchase, when this Craftsman Lawn Mower is maintained,

lubdcatsd, and tuned up according to the operating and maintenance instructionsin

the owner's manual, Sears will repair free of charge any defect in matedal or workman-

ship.

Ifthis Craftsman Lawn Mower is used for ccmmercial or rental purposes, this warranty

appliesfor only 90 days from the date of purchase.

This Warranty does not cover:

• Expendable ]ternswhich become worn dudng normal use, such as rotary mower

blades, blade adapters, belts, air cleaners and spark plug.

• Repairs necessary because of operator abuse or negligence, including bent

crankshafts and the failure to maintain the equipment accordingto the instructions

contained in the owner's manual.

Warranty service is available by returningthe Craftsman power mower to the nearest

Sears Service Center/Department in the United States. This warranty applies only

while thisproduct isin use in the United States.

This Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which

vary from state to state.

I. GENERAL OPERATION

• Read, understand, and follow all

instructions on the machine and in the

manual(s) before starting. Be thor-

oughly familiar with the controlsand

the proper use of the machine before

starting.

• Do not put hands or feet near or under

rotatingparts. Keep clear ofthe

discharge opening at all times.

• Only allow responsible individuals,

who are familiar with the instructions,to

operate the machine.

• Clear the area of objects such as

rocks,toys,wire, bones, sticks, etc.,

which could be picked up and thrown

by the blade.

• Be sure the area is clear of other

people before mowing. Stop machine if

anyone enters the area.

• Do not operate the mower when

barefoot or weadng open sandals.

Always wear substantial foot wear.

• Do not pull mower backwards unless

absolutely necessary. Always look

down and behind before and while

moving backwards.

• Do not operate the mower without

proper guards, plates, grass catcher or

other safety protective devices in place.

• See manufacturer's instructions for

proper operation and installation of

accessodes, Only use accessories

approved by the manufacturer.

• Stop the blede(s) when crossing gravel

drives, walks, or roads.

• Stop the engine (motor) whenever you

leave the equipment, before cleaning

the mower or uncloggingthe chute.

• Shutthe engine (motor) off and wait

untilthe blade comes to complete stop

before removing grass catcher.

• Mow only in daylight or good artificial

light.

• Do not operate the machine while

under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• Never operate machine in wet grass.

Always be sure ofyour footing: keep a

firm hold on the handle and walk; never

run,

• Disengage the self-propelled mecha-

nism or drive clutchon mowers so

equipped before starting the engine

(motor).

• If the equipment should startto vibrate

abnormally, stop the engine (motor)

and check immediately for the cause.

Vibration is generally a warning of

trouble.

• Always wear safety goggles or safety

glasses with side shields when

operating mower.

I1.SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor reiatsd to slip

and fall accidents which can result in

severe injury. All slopes require extra

caution. If you feel uneasy on a slope, do

notmow it.

DO:

• Mow across the face of slopes: never

up and down. Exercise extreme caution

when changing direction on slopes.

• Remove obstacles suchas rocks,tree

limbs, etc.

• Watch for holes, ruts, or bumps.Tall

grass can hide obstacles.

DO NOT:

• Do not tdm near drop-offs, ditches or

embankments. The operator could lose

footing or balance.

• Do not tdm excessively steep slopes.

• Do not mow on wet grass. Reduced

footing could cause slipping.

II1.CHILDREN

Tragic accidents can occur if the operator

is not alert to the presence ofchildren.

Children are often attracted to the

machine and the mowing activity. Never

assume that children will remain where

you last saw them.

• Keep children outof the tdmming area

and under the watchful care of another

responsible adult.

• Be alert and turn machine off if children

enter the area.

• Before and while walking backwards,

look behind and down for small

children.

• Never allow children to operate the

machine.

• Use extra care when approaching blind

comers, shrubs, trees, or other objects

that may obscure vision.

IV. SERVICE

• Use extra care in handling gasoline

and other fuels. They are flammable

and vapors are explosive.

- Use only an approved container.

. Never remove gas cap or add fuel

with the engine running. Allow

engine to cool before refueling. Do

not smoke.

-Never refuel the machine indoors.

-Never store the machine or fuel

container inside where there Is an

open flame, such as a water heater.

• Never run a machine inside a closed

area.

• Never make adjustments or repairs with

the engine (motor) running. Disconnect

the spark plug wire, and keep the wire

away from the plug to prevent acciden-

tal starting.

• Keep nuts and bolts, especially blade

attachment bolts, tight and keep

equipment in good condition.

• Never tamper with safety devices.

Check their proper operation regularly.

• Keep machine free of grass, leaves, or

other debds build-up. Clean oil or fuel

spillage. Allow machine to cool before

stodng.

• Stop and inspect the equipment ifyou

stdke an object. Repair, it necessary,

before restarting.

• Never attempt to make wheel height

adjustments while the engine (motor) is

running.

• Grass catcher components are subject

to wear, damage, and deterioration,

which could expose moving parts or

allow objects to be thrown. Frequently

check components and replace with

manufacturer's recommended pads,

when necessary.

• Mower blades are sharp and can cut.

Wrap the blade(s) or wear gloves, and

use extra caution when servicingthem.

• Do not change the engine governor

setting or overspeed the engine.

accidental starting when setting up,

always disconnect spark plug wire and

Read these instructionsand this manual

in its entirety before you attempt to

assemble or operate your new lawn

mower.

IMPORTANT: This lawnmower is

shipped WITHOUT OIL OR GASOLINE in

the engine.

Your new lawn mower has been as-

sembled at the factory with the exception

ofthose parts left unassembled for

shipping purposes. All parts such as nuts,

washers, bolts, etc., necessary to com-

plete the assembly have been placed in

the parts bag. To ensure safe and proper

operationof your lawn mower, all parts

and hardware you assemble must be

tightened securely. Use the correct tools

as necessary to ensure proper tightness.

TO REMOVE LAWN MOWER FROM

CARTON

1. Remove loose parts included with

mower.

2. Cut down two end comers of carton

and lay end panel down flat.

3. Remove all packing materials except

padding between upper and lower

handle end padding holding operator

presence control bar to upper handle.

4. Roll lawn mower out of carton and

check carton thorougly for additional

loose parts.

HOWTO SET UPYOUR LAWN

TO UNFOLD HANDLE

IMPORTANT: Unfold handle carefully so

as not to pinch or damage controlcables.

1. Raise handles until lower handle

section locks into place in mowing

position.

2, Remove protective padding, raise

upper handle section into place on

lower handle end tighten both handle

knobs.

3. Remove handle padding holding

operator presence control bar to

upper handle.

Your lawn mower handle can be adjusted

toryour mowing comfort. Refer to "AD-

HOWTO USEYOUR LAWN MOWER

ENGINE SPEED

The engine speed was set at the factory

for optimum performance. Speed is nat

adjustable.

ENGINE ZONE CONTROL

_,CAUTION: Federal regulations require

an engine controlto be installed on this

lawn mower in order to minimize the dsk

ofblade contact injury.Do not under any

cimumstances attempt to defeat the

function ofthe operator control.The blade

turns when the engine is running.

• Your lawn mower is equipped with an

operator presence control bar which

requiresthe operator to be positioned

behind the lawn mower handle to start

and operate the lawn mower.

DRIVE CONTROL

• Self.propelling is controlled by holding

the operator presence control her down

to the handle and pushingthe drive

control lever forward until it clicks;then

releasing the lever.

• Forward motionwill stop when the

operator presence control bar is

released. To stop forward motion

without stopping engine, release the

operator presence control bar slightly

untilthe drive control disengages. Hold

operator presence control bar down

against handle to continue mowing

without serf-propelling.

• To keep drive control engaged when

turning comers, push down on handle

and lifttrent wheels off ground while

turning lawn mower.

TO ADJUST CUTrlNG HEIGHT

Raise wheels for low out and lower

wheels for high cut, adjust cuttingheight

to suit your requirements. Medium

position isbest for most lawns.

• To change cutting height, squeeze

adjuster lever toward wheel. Move

wheel up or down to suit your require-

ments. Be sure all wheels are in the

same satitng.

NOTE: Adjuster is propedy positioned

when plate tab inserts into hole in lever.

Also, 9-position adjusters (if so equipped)

allow lever to be positioned between the

plate tabs.

TO EMPTY GRASS CATCHER

1. Liftup on grass catcher using the

frame handle.

2. Remove grass catcher with clippings

from under lawn mower handle.

3. Empty clippingsfrom bag using both

frame handle and bag handle.

NOTE: Do notdrag the bag when

emptying; itwill cause unnecessary wear.

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

ADD OIL

Your lawnmower is shipped withoutoil in

the engine. Engine holds 20 oz. of oil.

For type and grade of oil to use, see

=ENGINE" in Maintenance section of this

manual.

1. Be sure lawnmower is level and area

around oil fill is clean.

2. Remove engine oil cap and fill to the

full line on the dipstick. Pour oil slowly.

Do not over fill.

NOTE: Allow oil to settle down into engine

for accurate reading. To read proper level,

tighten engine oil cap, then remove it to

read the dipstick,

3. Reinstall engine oil cap and tighten.

• Check oil level before each use. Add

oil it needed. Fillto full line on dipstick.

• Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operation or each season. You may

need to change the oil more often

under dusty, dirty conditions.

ADD GASOLINE

• Fill fuel tank. Use fresh, clean, regular

unleaded gasoline with a minimum of

87 octane. Do not mix oil with gaso-

line. Purchase fuel in quantities that

can be used within 30 days to assure

fuel freshness.

A,WARNING: Experience indicatesthat

alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol or

using ethanol or methanol) can attract

moisture which leads to separation and

formation ofacids during storage. Acidic

gas can damage the fuel systemof an

engine while in storage. To avoid engine

problems, the fuel system should be

emptied before storage of 30 days or

longer. Drain the gas tank, start the

engine and let it run untilthe fuel lines

and carburetor are empty. Use fresh fuel

next season. See Storage Instructionsfor

additional information. Never use engine

or carburetor cleaner productsin the fuel

tank or permanent damage may occur.

_, CAUTION: Fillto bottom ofgas tank

filler neck. Do not overfill. Wipe off any

spilled oil or fuel, Do not store, spillor

use gasoline near an open flame.

TO START ENGINE

NOTE: Due to protective coatingson the

engine, a small amount of smoke may be

present during the inkial use of the

product and should be considered

normal.

I. To start a cold engine, push pdmer

three (3) times beforetrying to start.

Usa e firm push. This step isnet

usually necessary when starting an

engine which has already run for a

few minutes.

2. Hold operator presence control bar

down to the handle and pull starter

handle quickly. Do notallow starter

rope to snap back.

TO STOP ENGINE

• To stop engine, release operator

presence control bar.

NOTE: In ccoler weather it may be

necessary to repeat pdmingsteps. In

warmer weather over pdming may cause

flooding and engine willnot start. If you

do flood engine, wait a few minutes

before attempting to start and do not

repeat priming steps.

MOWINGTIPS

• Under certain conditions,such as very

tall grass it may be necessary to raise

the height of cut to reduce push ng

effortand to keep from overloading the

engine and leaving clumps of grass

clippings. It may also be necessary to

reduce groundspeed and/or run the

lawn mower over the area a second

time.

• For extremely heavy cutting, reduce the

width of cut by overlapping previously

cut path and mow slowly.

• For better grass bagging and most

cutting conditions,the engine speed

should be set in the fast position.

• When using a roar discharge lawn

mower in moist, heavy grass, clumps of

cutgrass may notenter the grass

catcher. Reduce ground speed

(pushing speed) and/or runthe lawn

mower over the area a second time.

• If a trail of clippingsis left on the dght

side of e rear discharge mower, mow in

a clockwise direction with a small

overlap to collectthe clippingson the

next pass.

• Pores in cloth grass catchers can

become filled with dirt and dust with

use and catchers will collect lessgrass.

To prevent this, regularly hose catcher

off with water end let dry before using.

• Keep top of engine around starter clear

and clean of grass clippingsand chaff.

This will help engine air flow and

extend engine life.

MULCHING MOWINGTIPS

IMPORTANT: For bestperformance,

keep mower housing free of built-up

grass and trash. See =CLEANING" in the

Maintenance section of this manuel.

• The special mulching blade will recut

the grass clippings many times and

reduce them in size so that as they fall

onto the lawn they will disperse intothe

grass and not be noticed. Also, the

mulched grass will biodegrade quickly

to provide nutrients for the lawn.

Always mulch with your highest engine

(blade) speed as this will provide the

best recutting actionof the blades.

• Avoid cuttingyour lawn when it is wet.

Wet grass tends toform clumps and

interferes with the mulchingaction.

The best time to mow your lawn isthe

early aftemcon. At this time the grass

has dried and the newly cut area will

notbe exposed to the direct sun.

• For best results, adjust the lawn mower

cutting height so that the lawn mower

cutsoff only the top one-third of the

grass blades. If the lawn Is overgrown

it will be necessary to raise the height

ef cut to reduce pushing effort and to

keep from overloading the engine and

leaving clumps of mulched grass. For

extremely heavy mulching, reduce your

width of cut by overlapping previously

cut path and mow slowly.

• Certain types of grass and grass

conditionsmay require that an area be

mulched a second time to completely

hide the clippings. When doing a

second cut, mow across or perpendicu-

lar to the firstcut path.

• Change your cuttingpattern from week

to week. Mow north to south one week

then change to east to west the next

week. This will help prevent matting

and graining of the lawn.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

The warranty on this lawn mower does

notcover items that have been subjected

to operator abuse or negligence. To

receive full value from the warranty,

operator must maintain mower as

instructedin this manual.

Some adjustments will need to be made (

periodicallyto properly maintain your I [

unit.

All adjustments in the Service and I \

Adjustmentssection of this manual _-

should be checked at least once each

season.

• Once a year, replace the spark plug,

clean or replace air filter element and

check blade for wear. A new spark

plug and clean/new air filter element

assure proper air-fuel mixture and help

your engine run better and last longer.

• Follow the maintenance schedule in

this manual.

IMPORTANT: Do not oil or grease

plastic wheel bearings. Viscous

lubricants will attract dust and dirt that

will shorten the life of the self-lubricat-

ing bearings. If you feel they must be

lubricated, use only a dry, powdered

graphite type lubricant sparingly.

Always observe safety rules when

performing any maintenance.

TIRES

• Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect

control chemicals which can harm

rubber.

• Avoid stamps, stones, deep ruts, sharp

objects and other hazards that may

cause tire damage.

BLADE CARE

For best results, mower blade must be

kept sharp. Replace bent or damaged

blades.

TO REMOVE BLADE

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannot

come in contact with spark plug.

2. Turn lawn mower on its side. Make

sure air filter and carburetor are up.

3. Use a wood block between blade and

mower housing to prevent blade from

turning when removing blade bolt.

NOTE: Protect your hands with gloves

and/or wrap blade with heavy cloth.

4. Remove blade bolt by turning counter-

dcokwlse.

5. Remove blade and attaching hard-

ware (bolt, lock washer and hardened

washer).

NOTE: Remove the blade adapter and

check the key inside hub of blade

adapter. The key must be in goodcondi-

tion to work properly. Replace adapter if

damaged.

TO REPLACE BLADE

1. Position the blade adapter on the

engine crankshaft. Be sure key in

adapter and crankshaft keyway are

aligned.

2. Position blade on the blade adapter

aligning the two (2) holes in the blade

with the raised lugs on the adapter.

3. Be sure the trailing edge of blade

(opposite sharp edge) is up toward

the engine.

4. Install the blade boltwith the lock

washer and hardened washer into

blade adapter and crankshaft.

5. Use block of wood between blade and

lawn mower housing and tighten the

blade bolt, turning clockwise.

• The recommended tightening torque is

35-40 ft. Ibs.

IMPORTANT: Blade boltis grade 8 heat

treated.

TO SHARPEN BLADE

NOTE: We do not recommend sharpen-

ing blade - butff you do, be sure the

blade is balanced.

Care should be taken to keep the blade

balanced. An unbalanced blade will

cause eventual damage to lawn mower

or engine.

• The blade can be sharpened with a file

or on a grindingwheel. Do not attempt

to sharpen while on the mower.

• To check blade balance, drive a nail

into a beam or wall. Leave about one

inchof the straight nail exposed. Place

center hole of blade over the head of

the nail. If blade is balanced, it should

remain in a horizontal position. If either

end ofthe blade moves downward,

sharpen the heavy end until the blade

is balanced.

GRASS CATCHER

• The grass catcher may be hosed with

water, but must be dry when used.

• Check your grass catcher often for

damage or detedoration. Through

normal use it will wear. If catcher

needs replacing, replace only with a

manufacturer approved replacement

catcher. Give the lawn mower model

number when ordedng.

DRIVE WHEELS

Check front drive wheels each time

beforeyou mow to be sure they move

freely.

The wheels not turning freely means

trash, grass cuttings, etc. are inthe ddve

wheel area and must be cleaned to free

drive wheels,

If necessary to clean the ddve wheels,

check beth front wheels.

1. Remove hubcaps, hairpin cotters and

washers.

2. Remove wheels from wheel adjusters.

3. Remove any trash or grass cuttings

from inside the dust cover, pinion and/

or drive wheel gear teeth.

4. Put wheels back in place.

NOTE: If after cleaning, the drive wheels

do notturnfreely, contact a Sears or other

qualified service center.

GEAR CASE

• To keep your drive system working

prepedy, the gear case and area

around the drive should be kept clean

and free of trash build-up. Clean under

the ddve cover twice a season.

• The gear case isfilled with lubdcantto

the proper level at the factory. The only

time the lubdcant needs attentionis if

service has been performed onthe

gear case.

• If lubdcant is required, use only Texaco

Starplex Premium 1 Grease, Part No.

750369. Do not substitute.

ENGINE

LUBRICATION

Use only high quality detergent oil rated

with API service classificationSF-SJ.

Select the oil's SAE viscositygrade

according to your expected operating

temperature,

NOTE: Although multi-viscosifyoils

(5W30, 10W30 etc.) improve startingin

cold weather, these multi-viscosityoils

will result in increased oil consumption

when used above 32°F. Check your

engine oil level more frequently to avoid

possible engine damage from running

low on oil.

Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operation or at least once a year if the

lawn mower is not used for 25 hours in

one year.

Check the crankcase oil level before

startingthe engine and after each five (5)

hours of continuous use. Tighten oil plug

securely each time you check the oil

level.

TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL

NOTE: Before tipping lawn mower to

drain oil, drain fuel tank by running

engine until fuel tank is empty.

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannot

come In contact with spark plug.

2. Remove engine oil cap; lay aside on a

clean surface,

3. Tip lawn mower on its side as shown

and drain oil into a suitable container.

Rock lawn mower back end forth to

remove any oil trapped Inside of

engine.

4. Wipe off any spilled oil on lawn mower

and on side of engine.

5. Fill engine with oil. (See "ADD OIL" in

the Operacion section of this manual.)

6. Reconnect spark plug wire to spark

plug.

AIR FILTER

Your engine will not run properly and may

be damaged by using a dirty air filter.

Replace the air filter every 100 hours of

operation or every season, whichever

occurs first. Service air cleaner more

often in under dusty conditions, Do not

wash air filter.

TO CHANGE AIR FILTER

1. Remove the air filter by turning

clockwiseto the stop and pull away

from collar.

2. Remove filter from inside of cover,

3. Clean the inside of the cover and the

collar to remove any dirt accumula-

tion.

4. Insert new filter Into cover.

5. Put air filter cover and filter into collar

aligning the tab with the slot.

6. Push in on cover and turn counter-

clockwiseto tighten.

MUFFLER

Inspect end replace corroded muffler as it

could create a fire hazard and/or dam-

age.

SPARK PLUG

Replace spark plugs at the beginning of

each mowing season or after every 100

hours of operation, whichever occurs first.

Spark plug type and gap setting are

shown in =PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS"

in Maintenance section of this manual.

CLEANING

IMPORTANT: For best performance,

keep mower housing free of built-up

grass and trash. Clean the underside of

your mower after each use.

ACAUTION: Disconnect spark plugwire

from spark plug and place wire where it

cannot come in contact with the spark

plug.

• Clean the underside of your lawn

mower by scraping to remove build-up

of grass and trash.

• Clean engine often to keep trash from

accumulating. A clogged engine runs

hotter and shortens engine life.

• Keep finished surfaces and wheels free

of all gasoline, oil, etc.

• We do not recommend using a garden

hose to clean lawn mower unless the

electrical system, muffler, air filter and

carburetor are covered to keep water

out. Water in engine can result in

shortened engine life.

CLEAN UNDER DRIVE COVER

Clean under drive cover at least twice a

season. Scrape underside of cover with

putty knife or similartool to remove any

build-up of trash or grass on underside of

drive cover.

A,CAUTION: Before performing any

service or adjustments:

1. Release control bar and stop engine.

2. Make sure the blade and all moving

parts have completely stopped.

3. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plugand place where it cannot come

in contact with plug.

LAWN MOWER

TO ADJUST CU111NG HEIGHT

the Operation section of this manual.

REAR DEFLECTOR

The rear deflector, attached between the

rear wheels of your mower, is provided to

minimize the possibility that objects will

be thrown out ofthe rear of the mower

intothe operator mowing position. If the

deflector becomes damaged, it should be

replaced.

TO REMOVE/REPLACE DRIVE BELT

1. Remove ddve cover. Remove belt

from gearcase pulley by pushing

down on pulley and rolling belt off it.

2. Turn lawn mower on its side with air

filter and carburetor up.

3. Remove blade.

4. Remove debds shield.

5. Remove belt from engine pulley on

crankshaft.

6. Install new bell by reversing above

steps.

7. Always use factory approved bell to

assure fit and long life.

TO ADJUST HANDLE

The upper handle may be adjusted to

four (4) different height positions.

1. Loosen both handle knobs only

enough to allow the upper handle to

pivot to the desired adjustment

position.

Your carburetor has a son-adjustable

fixed mainjet for mixture control. If your

engine governor, which isfactory set for

proper engine speed. Overspeeding the

engine above the factory high speed

necessary adjustments.

LAWN MOWER

When lawn mower isto be stored for a

period of time, clean it thoroughly,remove

2. Lubricate as shown in the Mainte-

nance section of this manual.

3. Be sure that all nuts, bolts,screws,

and pins are securely fastened.

4. Touch up all rusted or chipped paint

surfaces; sand lightlybefore painting.

storage.

1. Squeeze the bottom ends ofthe lower

handle toward each other untilthe

lower handle clears the handle

bracket, then move handle forward.

2. Loosen upper handle mounting bolts

enough to allow upper handle to be

folded back.

IMPORTANT: When folding the handle

for storage or transportation,be sure to

fold the handle as shown or you may

damage the control cables.

• When setting up your handle from the

storage position, the lower handle will

FUEL SYSTEM

IMPORTANT: It isimportantto prevent

gum deposits from forming in essential

fuel system parts such as carburetor, fuel

filter, fuel hose, or tank during storage.

Also, experience indicates that alcohol

blended fuels (called gasohol or using

ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture

which leads to separation and formation

ofacids dudng storage. Acidic gas can

damage the fuel system of an engine

while in storage.

1. Drain the fuel tank.

2. Start the engine and let it run untilthe

fuel lines and carburetor are empty.

• Never use engine or carburetor cleaner

products in the fuel tank or permanent

damage may occur.

• Use fresh fuel next season.

NOTE: Fuel stabilizeris an acceptable

alternative in minimizing the formation of

fuel gum deposits during storage. Add

stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank or

storage container. Always follow the mix

ratio found on stabilizer container. Run

engine at least 10 minutes after adding

stabilizerto allow the stabilizer to reach

the carburetor. Do notdrain the gas tank

and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.

ENGINE OIL

Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace

with clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" in

the Maintenance section ofthis manual).

CYLINDER

1. Remove spark plug.

2. Pour one ounce (29 ml) of oil through

spark plug hole into cylinder.

3. Pull starter handle slowly a few times

to distributeoil.

4. Replace with new spark plug.

OTHER

• Do not store gasoline from one season

to another.

• Replace your gasoline can if your can

startsto rust. Rust and/or dirt inyour

gasoline will cause problems.

• If possible, store your unit indoors and

cover itto give protectionfrom dust and

dirt.

• Cover your unitwith a suitable protec-

tive cover that does not retain moisture.

Do not use plastic.Plastic cannot

breathe, which allows condensation to

form and will cause your unitto rust.

IMPORTANT: Never cover mower while

engons and exhaust areas are stillwarm.

CAUTION: Never store the lawn mower

with gasoline in the tank inside a building

where fumes may reach an open flame or

spark. Allow the engine to cool before

stodng in any enclosure.

II. OPERACION SOBRE LAS CUESTAS

Los accidentes ocurran con m_s frecuencia

en las cuestas. Estos accidentes ocurran

debido a resbaladas o ca[das, las cuales

pueden resu[tar en graves lealones. Operar la

recorladora en cuestas requiere mayor

concentraci6n. Si se siente inseguro en una

cuesta, no la recorte.

HACER:

• Puede recortar a travds de la supedicie de

la cuesta, nunca hacia arriba y hacia abajo.

Proceda con extrema precauci6n cuando

cambie de dtreccibn en las cuestas.

• Renueva todos los objetos extmfios, tales

con10 guijarrco, raiT_s, etc.

• Debe prestar atencibn a hoyos, bachas o

protuberancias. Recuerde que la hierba alta

puede esconder obst_culos.

NO HACER:

• No recorte cerca de pendientes, zanjas o

terraplsnes. El operador puede perder la

traccic_nso los pies o el equilibrio.

• No recorle cuestas demasiado inclinadas.

• No recorte en hierba mojada. La reducci6n

en la tracci6n de la pisada puede causar

resbalones.

Su segadora nueva ha sido rnontada en la

fdbdca con ta excepci6n de aquellas partes

que so dejaron sin montar por razones de

env[o.Todas las partes como las tuercas, las

arandalas los pemos, etc., que son

necesadas para completar el montaje ban s do

cotocadas an la bolsa de pertes. Para

asegurarse que su segadora tuncione an

forma segura y adecuada, todas las partes y

los artfculos de ferreteda que se rnonten

tienen que ser apretados segurarnente. Use

1asherramiantas correctas, como sea

necesado, pard asegumr que se apdeten

adecuadamente.

PARA REMOVER LA SEGADORA DE

LA CAJA DE CART(_N

I. Remueva la.s partes sueltas que se

incluyen con la seg;_dora.

2. Code las dos esquinas de los extremos de

la caja de cartdn y tianda el panel del

extrerno piano.

3, Remueva todo et material de empaque,

excepto la cu_ entre el mango superior y

61inferior,y la cu_a que sujeta la barra de

los control que exige la presencia del

operador junto con el mango superior.

4. Haga rodar la segadera hacia afuera de la

caja de cartbn y revlsala cuidadosamente

para verificar si todevla quedan partes

sueltas adicionales.

COMO PREPARAR SU SEGADORA

PARA DESDOBLAR EL MANGO

IMPORTANTE: Despliegue el mango con

mucho cuidado para no pe]lizcar o da_ar los

cables de control.

1. Levante los mangos hasta que la seccibn

del mango inferior se asegure an su lugar,

en ta posicibn para segar.

2. Remueva la curia protentora, levante la

secci6n del mango superior hasta su tugar

en el mango inferior, y apriete ambas

maniltas dal mango.

3. Remueva la curls dal mango que sujeta la

barra de los control que exige la presencia

del operarior junto con el mango superior.

El mango de ta segadora puede ajustarse

seg0n le acomode para segar, Refi6rase a

"AJUSTE DEL MANGO" en la Seccibn de

Servialo y Ajustos de este manual.

COMO USAR SU SEGADORA

VELOCIDAD DEL MOTOR

La velocidad del motor se estabteci6 en la

f_tbrica para un randimianto 6ptimo. La

velocidad no se puede ajustar.

CONTROL DE ZONA DEL MOTOR

_,PRECAUCI6N: Las regulaciones fedemles

ex_genque se instale un control para el motor

en esta segadora para reducir a un mlnimo el

desgo de lesionarse debido al contacto con la

cuchilla. Porrdng0n motivo1ratede eliminar ta

funcibn del controldel operador. La cuchilla

gira cuando el motor est_ funcionando.

• Su sngadora viene equipada con una barra

de contmles que exigen la presencia del

operador, Io que requiere que el operador

est_ detrds del mango de la segadora para

haceda arrancar y operade.

CONTROL DE LA IMPULSI(_N

• La autoimpulsi6n se controla al sujetar la

barra de control que exige ta presencia del

opera,dor hacia abajo an el mango y al

empujar la palanca de control de la

impulsi6nhacia adelante hasta qua suene

=clic," luego se suelta la palanca.

• El movimianto hacia adelante pamrb cuando

la barra de control qua exige la presencia

del operador se suelta. Para parar el

movimiento hacia adelante sin parar el

motor,suelte la barra de control qua exige la

presencla del operador un goco hasta que

se desenganche el control de la impulsl6n.

Sujete la barra de controlque exige la

presencia del

operador abajo en contra del mango para

continuar segando sin autolmpulsi6n.

• Para mantener el control de la impolsibn

enganchado cuando se de vue_taen las

esquinas, empuje el mango hacia abajo y

levante las ruedas dolantems fuera del

suelo al girar la sngadora.

PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE

CORTE

Levante las ruedas para el code ba_oy baje

las nJedas para el corte alto., ajuste la altura

de code para que se acomode a sus

requisltos. La posici6n del modio es la mejor

para la mayoda de los c_spedes.

• Para cambiar la altura de corte, empuje la

palanca del ajustador hacia la ruede. Mueva

la meda hacia arriba o hacia abajo de mode

que se acomode a sus requisites.

Aseg0rese que todas las ruedas queden

igualmante ajustades.

AVISO: El ajustador esta correctamente

colocado cuando las orejas de la placa est_n

insertadas en el agujem del mango. Tambi6n,

tos ajustes de 9 posiciones (si equipado)

permitan que el mango puede ser movido

entre las orejas de la placa.

PARA CONVERTIR LA SEGADORA

Su segadora rue enviada lista para usarse

como acolchadora de capa vegetal. Para

converlir la a una operaciGn de ensacado:

• Levantar la puerta trasera de cortac6sped y

co;onar los ganchos del arn_zdn de la

recelectora de hierba an los pasadores del

quicio de la puerta.

• Para pasar a la opercaibn de

acolcharniento, remover la recoleotora de

hierba y cerrar la pueda trasera.

d_PRECAUCI_N: No haga funcionar su

segadora sin el desviador de recortes o sin el

recogsdor de cdsped, aprobados, en su lugar.

Nunca trate de operar la segadora cuando se

ha removido la puerla trasera o cuando est,_

un poco abierta.

PARA VACIAR EL RECOGEDOR DE

ClaSPED

1. Levante el recogedor de c&sped usando el

mango del bastidor.

2. Remueva el recogedor de c_sped, con los

recortes, de debajo del mango de la

segadora.

3. Vac[e los recortes de la bolsa usando

tanto el mango del bastidor como _1de ta

bolsa.

AVISO: No arrastre la bulsa cuando la vacfe;

se producird un desgaste innecesade.

ANTES DE HACER ARRANCAR EL

MOTOR

AGREGUE ACEITE

Su segadora rue enviada sin acelte en el motor.

Elmotor puede contener 20 oz. de aceite. Para

el tipo y la calidad vea =MOTOR" en la seccibn

de las Mantenimiento en este manual.

1. AsegOrese que ta segadora est6 nivetada y

que el drea alrededor del depbsito de ace_te

est_ limpia.

2. Remueva la tapa del dep6sito de aceite del

motor y rellene has_ la Ifnea de llano en

6sta. Vac[e el aceite lentarniente. No toIlene

demasiado.

AV]SO: Permita que el aceite se aciente bien

en el motor para una leotura exacta. Para leer

el nivel apropiado, apdete la tapa del retleno del

aceite de motor, remuewla para leer la wdlla

medidora del aceite.

3. Vuelva a instalar latapa del dep_ito del

acelte y apri6tela.

• Revise el nivel del acelte antes de cada uso.

Agregue aceite si es necesado. Llene hasta

la Ilnea de Ileno en ta vadlla ind_cadorade

nivel.

• Camble el acelte despu_s de 25 horas de

operacibn o ur_ vez por temporada. Punde

necesitar cambiar el aceite m_s a menudo

cuando las condiciones son polvorosas o

sucfas.

AGREGUE GASOLINA

• Llene el estanque de combustible. Use

gasolina regular, sin plomo, nueva y fimpia

con el minima de 87 octanos. (El uso de

gasolina con plomo aumentard los

degbsitos de 6xido de plomo y carbono y se

rnducir_ la duraci6n de la vdivula), No

mezcte el aceite con la gasolina. Pare

asegumr que la gasolina utilizada sea

fresca compre estanques los cuales

puedan ser utilizados dumnte los primeros

30 dias.

_DVERTENCIA:La expedencia ha indicado

que los combustibles mezclados con alcohol

(co_oddos como gasohol, o el uso de etanol o

metand) pueden straer la humedad, la que

conduce a la seperacibn y formaci6n de

dcldos dumnte el almacenamiento. La gasolina

ac|dica puede da6ar el sisterna del combus-

tible de un motordurante el almacenamiento.

Pare evitar los problemas con el motor, se

debe vaciar el sistema del combustible antes

de guardado por un per[ode de 30 dias o rn_s.

Vacfe el estanque del combustible, haga

arrancar el motor y hdgalo funcionar hasta

que las tineas del combustible y el carburader

queden vacfos. La prbxima temporada usa

combustible nuevo. Vea las instrucciones para

Nunca use pmdustos de lirnpieza para el

motor o para el carburador en el estanque del

combustible pues se pueden producir da_os

p_rr_anentes.

ECAUCI(SN: Llene hasta ta parte inferior

del cuello de relleno del estanque de gasolina.

combustible derramado. No elmacene,

derrame o use gasolina cerca de una llama

PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTOR

NOTA: Debido alas capes protectoras del

motor, una cantidad peque_a de humo puede

estar presents durente el uso inicial del

producto y se debe considerar normal.

1. Para hacer alTancar un motor frio, empuje

el cebador l_es (3) races antes de tratado.

Empuje firmaments. Este peso

normalmente no es necosade cuande se

hace arrencar un motor qua ya ha estado

funcionando por unos cuantos minutos.

2. Sujete la barra de conlroles qua exigen ta

prasancia del operedor abajo en el mango

y tire el mango del armncador

rdpidamente. No perm_taqua el cord6n del

armncador se devuelva abruptamente.

PARA PARAR EL MOTOR

• Para parer el motor, suelte la barre de

controles qua exigen la prasencia del

operedor.

AVISO; En climas mds fdos puede qua sea

necesado rapetir los pesos del cebado. En

ctimas rods calurosos el cebar demasiado

puede producir el ahogo y el motor no va a

arrancar. Si se ahoga el motor espere unos

cuantos minutos antes de tretar de hacedo

arrancar y no mpita los pesos del cebado.

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR

• Bajo ciertas condiciones, tal como cdsped

muy alto, pueda sar necasario el elevar la

alture del code pare reducir el asfuerzo

necesado para ampejar la segadora y para

evitar sobrecargar el motor, dejando

montones de recortes de c_sped. Puede

qua sea necesario reducir la velocided del

recorddo y/o haga funcionar la segadora

sobre el _rea per segunda vez.

• Pare un corte muy posado, reduzca el

aosho del come pesando perciaJmente pot

encima del lugar anteriormente cortado y

siegue lentamente.

• Para un major ensacado del cdsped y pera

la mayoda de las condiciones de come, la

velosidad del motor debe ajustarse a la

posicibnde r_pido.

• Cuando use una segadore con dsscarga

tmsere sn c_sped hdmedo y pasado, los

montones del c&sped cortado puede qua no

entrenen el mcogedor de c_sped. Reduzca

la velodded del recorndo (velocidad de

empuje) y/o haga funcionar la segadore

sobre el &rea per segunda vez.

• Si queda una huella de cortes en el lado

derecho de una sagadora con descarga

trasera, siegue en la diraccibn en qua giren

las manillas del reloj, sotapando un poco

para recaudar los mcortes en la prbxima

pasada.

• Los poros en los mcogedores de c6sped

de lela pueden Ilenarsa con mugre y pelvo

con el uso y los recogedores recaudardn

menos c_spsd. Pare evitar 6sto, rocle el

recogedor con la manguera de agua

regularmente y dejelo secarse antes de

usarlo.

• Mantenga la perte superior del motor,

atmdedor del arrancador, despejada y sin

recortes de c6sped y paja. Esto ayudar_ el

flujo del airs del motor y extender_ su

duraci6n.

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR Y ACOLCHAR

IMPORTANTE: Pare obtenar el major

rendimainto mantenga la caja de la segador a

sin acumlacion de cesped y basura. Vea

"LIMPIEZA" en seccion de Mantsnirnento de

este manuel.

• La cuchilla acolchadore especial va a volvsr

a cortar los recortss de c6sped muchas

veces, y los reduce en tama6o, de modo

qua si se caen en el cdsped se van a

dispesar entre 6ste y no se van a notar.

Tambi6n, el c6sped acolchado saw a

deshacer rdpidemente entregando

substancias nutritivas para el c6sped.

Siempre acolche con la velocidad del motor

(cuchilla) mds alta, pues asl se obtendrd la

major accibn de recite de las cuchillas.

• Evtte codar el cdsped cuando est_ mojado.

El c_sped mojado tiende a formar montones

e inlediere con la acci6n de acolchade. La

major hora para segar el c6sped es

tempreno en la tarde. A esa hora dste se ha

secado y el drea mci6n cortada no quedard

expeesta al sol directo.

• Para obtener los mejores resultados, ajuste

la altuta del corte de la segadora de modo

qua data corta solamente el tercio superior

de las hojas de c_sped. En el caso de qua

el cdsped haya credde demasiado, peede

ser necesado el elevar la attura del come

para reducir el esfuerzo necesar_o para

empujar la segadora y pare evitar

sobrecargar el motor, dejando montones de

reco_les de cdsped. Para un acolchamiento

muy pesado, reduzca el ancho del corte

pasando por encima del lugar antedermente

cortado y siegue lentamente.

• Ciertos lJpos de cdsped y sos condiciones

pueden exigir que un drea tenga qua set

acolchada per segunda vez pera esconder

completamante los recortes. Cuande se

haga el segundo coma, siegue alravosado o

en forma perpendicular a la pesada del

primer come.

• Cambie su patr6n de corte de sernana a

semana. Siegue de node a sur una semana

y luego cambie de este a oeste la prbxima

samana. Esto avitard qua el c6sped ss

anrede y cambie de direcci6n,

RECOMENDAClONES GENERALES

La garantfa de esta segadom no cubre los

artlculos que han estado sujetos _1_buso o a

la negligoncia del operador, para recibir todo el

valor de la garantla, el operador tiene qua

mantener la segadora seg,3n las instrucciones

descritas en este m_nuaL

Hay algunos ajustes que se tienen que hacer

an forma peri_dica para poder mantener su

unidad adecuadaruente.

Todos los ajus_es en la seccibn de Servicio y

Ajustes de este manual tienen que ser

revisados por Io menos un vez pot cada

temporada.

• Una vez al aSo, cambie la bujla, limpie o

cambie el elemento del fiftrode aim y revise

si la cuchilla estd desgastada. Una bujfa

nueva y un elernento del fittrode aim limpio/

nuevo asegoran la ruezcla de airs-

combustible adecuade y ayudan a qua su

motorfuncione mejor y que dure ruds.

• Siga el programa de mantenirnientoen este

manuel.

• Mantenga las Ilantas sin gasolina, aceite o

substancias quimios.s para control de

insectos que pueden daRar la goma.

• Evite los tocones, las piedras, las gdetas

pmfundas, los objetos a_lados y otros

peligros que pueden darlar alas tlantas.

CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLA

Para obtener los mejores resultados, la

cuchilia de la segadora tienen que mantenerse

afilada. Cambie la cuchilla doblade o deRade.

PARA REMOVER LA CUCHILLA

1. Desconecte el alambre de la bujia y

p6ngalo en donde no puede entr_ en

contacto con _sta.

2. Haga descansar la segadora en su 1ado.

Asegdrese que el filtm de aire y que el

osrburador queden mirando hacia abajo.

3. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchilla

y la caja de la segadora pare evitar que la

cuchilla gire cuando se le quite el pemo.

AVISO: Proteja sus manos con guantes y/o

envuelwt la cuchilla con una tela gruesa.

4. Remueva el pemo de la cuchilla girdndolo

en el sentido contrafio en qos giran las

manillasdel reloj.

5. Remueva la cuchilla y los articulos de

ferreteria adjuntadores (el pemo, la

arendela de ssguridad y la arandela

endurecida).

AVISO: Remueva el adaptador de la cuchilla y

revise el cubo intedor de la ranura del

adaptador de la cuchilla. L_ ranura tiene que

estar en buenas condiciones para que

funcione en forma adecuada. Cambie el

adaptador si est_ deRado.

PARA CAMBIAR LA CUCHILLA

1. Ponga el adaptador de la cuchilla en el

ciguefial del motor. Asegdrese que la

ranura del adaptador y que el chavetem

del cigue_al est_n alineados.

2. Ponga la cuchiIla en el adaptador de dsta

alineando los dos (2) agujeros en la

cuchilla con las salientes elevadas en el

adaptador.

3. Asegdrese de que el borde de salida de la

cuchilla (opuesto el borde afilado) est_

hacia arriba hacia el motor.

4. lnstele el pemo de la cuchillacon la

arandela de seguridad y la arandela

endurecida en el adaptador de la cuchilla y

el elgueRal.

5. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchilla

y la caja de la segadora y _odete el perno

de la cuchilla girdndolo en el sentido en

que giran las maniElasdel reloj.

• La torsi6n para apretar recomendada es de

35 - 40 pies libras.

IMPORTANTE: El perno de la cuchilla es

PARA AFILAR LA CUCHILLA

AVISO: No mcomendemos el afilar la cuchilla

- pero si Io hace, aseg_rese de que quede

balanceade.

Se tiene que tener cuidado de mantenerla

balanceeda. Una cuchilla que no estA

balanceada vaa preducir eventuelrnente daf_o

en la segadora o en el motor.

• La cuchilla puede afllarse con una lima o en

una mede rectJficadora.No trate de afitada

mLentras se encuentra en la segadora.

•para revisar el balance de ta cuchilla, dave

un elavo en una viga o en ta pared. Deje

alrededer de una pulgada de un clavo recto

expuesto. Ponga el agujem central de la

cuchilla sobre la cabeza del clavo. Si la

cuchilla estd balanceada debe parmanecer

en Saposicide horizontal. Si cualquiera de

los exVernos de la cuchilla se mueve hacia

ahajo, afile el extremo pasedo hasta que

Asia quede balanceade.

RECOGEDOR DE ClaSPED

• El recogedor de cdsped puede set mciado

con el agua de la manguera paro liene que

es_r seco cuando se vaya a usar.

• Revise su recogedor de cAsped a menudo

pare veriticar siestA daRado o deterJorado.

Se va a desgastar con el uso normal. Si se

necesita cambiar el recogedor, cdmbielo

solamente par uno que sea aprobedo por el

fabricante. D6 el n_mem dal modelo de la

segadom cuando Io ordene.

RUEDAS DE IMPULSIAN

Revise las ruedas de impulsiAndelanteras

cade vez antes de segar, para asegurame de

que se mueven libremente.

Si las ruedas no giran libremente qulem decir

qce hay basura, re(odes de cAsped, etc. en el

Area de las ruedas de impulsi(_ny tienen que

limpiarse para lihararlas.

Es necesade limpiar las medas de impulsibn;

revise ambas ruedas delanteras.

1. Remueva los tapacubos, las clavijas de

horquilla y las arandelas.

2. Remueva las ruedas de los ajustadores de

las ruedas.

3. Remueva la basura y los recortes de

c_sped de dentro de la cubierta contra el

pelvo, pit,de y/o de los dientes de los

engranajes de las medas de impulsibn.

4. Ponga las ruedas de vuelta en su lugar.

AVISO: Si despuAs de timpiar las ruedas de

imputsibn no giran libremente, p_ngace en

contanto con su centro de sen/ielo Sears o

con un otto centre de servicio cualificado.

CAJA DE ENGRANAJES

•Para mantener el sistema de impulsibn

funcionando en forma adecuada, la caja de

engranajes y el Area alrededor de la

imputsi(_ntienen que mantenerse limpias y

sin acumulacibn de basum. Limpie debajo

de la cubierta de la impulsibn dos veces por

temporada.

• La caja de engranajes se Ilena con

lubricante haste el nivel adecuado en la

fdbrice. La tlnice vez que el lubdcente

necesha atencibn es cuando ce le ha

pmstado servicio ata caja de engmnajes.

• Si se cecesita lubdcante, use solernente

Gmsa Texaco Starplex Premium 1, Parte

No. 750369. No use substitntos.

MOTOR

LUBRICACI(_N

Use solarnente aceite de detergente de alia

calidad clasificedo con la clasificeck_n SF-SJ

de servicio API. Seleccione la calidad de

viscosidad SAE seg0n su temperature de

operacibn esperada.

SAEVISC(_rW GRADES

AVISO: A pesar de que los aceites de

multiviscosided (5W30, 10W30, etc.) mejoran

el arranque en clime fr[o, estos aceltes de

multiviscosidadvan ha aumentar el consumo

de aceite cuando se usan en temperatures

sol_'e 32° _ Revise el nivel del aceite del

motor mds a menudo, pare evitar un posible

daSo en el motor, debido a que no tiene

suflciente aceite.

Cambie el aceite despu(Ys de 25 horas de

operacibn o por Io menos una vez al aSo si la

segadora se utiliza menos 25 horas el aRo.

Revise el nivel del aceha del c_rter antes de

arrancar el motor y despuds de cada cinco (5)

horas de uso continuade. Apdete el tapbn del

aceite en forma segura cada vez que revise el

nivel del aceite.

PARA CAMBIAR EL ACEITE DEL MOTOR C_lar

AVISO: Antes de inclinar la segadom pare \ Abrazadera

drenar el aceite, drene el tanque de combus-

tible haciendo coffer el motor hasta que el

tanque este vacio.

1. Desconeote el alambre de la bujla y

pbngelo de modo que no pueda entrar en

contacto con _sta.

2. Remueva lalapa del depbsito del aceite;

ddjela a un lade en una supedLcielimpia.

3. Incline la cortadora de cdsped per este

costado tal como se muestra y purgue et

aceite en un recipiente idbneo. Mueva la

segadora de atrds para adelante para

remover todo el aceite que su haya

quadado atmpado denim del motor.

4. Limpie lodo el aceite derramado en la

segadora yen el lade del motor.

5. Rellene el motor con aceite. (Vea "PAPA

AGREGAR EL ACEITE" en la seccibn de

Operacibn de este manual.)

6. Vuelva a conectar el alambm de ta bujla a

6sta.

ErlVaSe

FILTRO DE AIRE

Su motor puede sufdr averias y funcionar de

manera incorreota con un tiltro del elre sucio.

Sustituir el papel del cartucho una vez al afio o

tras 100 horas de funcionamiento, rn_s a

menude si so utiliza en condiciones de

suciedad y polvo particulates. No lave el filtro

de aire.

PARA CAMBIAR EL FILTRO DE AIRE

1. Remueva el filtro de aim girdndelo en el

sentido en que girela de las manillas del

reloj para apretada, basra el tope, y mtirelo

del collar.

2. Remueva el flttm de la parte interiorde la

cubierta.

3. Limpie ta parte intedor de la cubierta y el

collar para remover toda acumulaci6n de

mugre.

4. Inserte el filtro nuevo en la cubierta.

5. Ponga la cubierla de1111trode aire dentro

del collar alineando la oreja con la ranura.

6. Empuje la cubierta hacla adentm y glrela

en el sentido contrado de las manillas del

reloj para apretada.

LIMPIEZA

IMPORTANTE: Para obtener el mejor

rendimiento, rnantenga ta caja de la segadora

sin acumulacion de cesped y basura. Limpin la

parte de abajo de su ssgadora despues de

cada uso.

4_.PRECAUCI6N: Desconeote el alambre de

• No recomendamos el uso de una manguera

de Jardlnpara limpiar la segadora a menos

qua el sistema eldotrfco, el silenciador, el

filtro de aire y el carburador est_n tapados

para evitar qua les entre el agua. El agua en

el motor puede acortar la duracibn de dste.

LIMPIE DEBAJO DE LA CUB|ERTA DE LA

IMPULSION

Limpie debajo de la cubierfa de la impulsibn

por Io menos dos veces cada temporade.

Raspe debajo de la cubierta con un cuchillo

para masilla o con una herramienta parecida,

para remover toda acumulackYn de cSsped o

basura en la perte inferior de la cubierta de la

impulsibn.

_.PRECAUCI_N: Antes de dar calquier

sewico o de hacer ajustes:

1. Suelte la barra de control y pare el motor.

2. Aseg,3rese qua ta cuchi,a y qua lc_daslas

partes rnovibles se hayan detenide

completamente.

SEGADORA

PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE CORTE

DESVIADOR TRASERO

Se propomiona un desviador trasero, adjunto

entre las ruedas traseras de su segadom,

para reducir a un mfnimo la posibilided que

objetos sean lanzados hacia afuera de la parte

trasem de la ssgadera, en la posici_ en

dende se encuentra el operador. Si se daSa el

desviador debe cambiarse.

PARA REMOVER/CAMBIAR LA CORREA

DE ]MPULSI(_N

1. Remueva la cubierta de la impulsibn.

Remueva la correa empujando hacia abajo

en la polea de la caja de engrana}es.

2 Haga descansar la segadora en su lado

con el filtro de aim y el carburador mimnde

hacla ardba.

3. Remueva la cuchilla.

4. Remueva la defensa en contra de|

desperdicio.

5. Remueva la correa de la polea del motor

en el ciguehal.

6. Instale la cortea nueva siguiendo los

pasos anteriores en el orden inverso.

7. Siempre use la correa aprobada por la

fdbdca para asegurarsa qua calce y dure.

PARA AJUSTAR EL MANGO

Et mango supedor quede ser ajustado a

cuatm (4) distintas posiciones de altura.

PARA MONTAR Y ADJUNTAR EL

RECOGEDOR DE ClaSPED

I. Ponga el bastidor del mcogedor de c_sped

en la bolsa del cdsped con la parte dg]de

de la bolsa en la parte infedor. Asegdrese

qua el mango del bastidor estd en e]

extedor de la parte supedor de la bolsa.

2. Deslice los suietadores de v_nnosobre el

bastidor.

AVISO: Si los sujetadores de vinilo esldn muy

dums, n_talos en agua caliente pot algunos

min_os, Si se mcja ta botsa, d6iela qua se

seque antes de usarla.

_1_PRECAUC (_N: No haga funcionar su

segadora sin el desviador _le recortes o sin el

recogedor de c6sped, apmbados, en su

lugar. Nunca trate de operar la segadora

cuando se ha removido la puerta trasera o

cuando estd un poco abierta.

MOTOR

VELOCIDAD DEL MOTOR

La velocidad del motor ha side ajustada en la

f_brica. No tmte de aurnentar lavelocldad pal

motor pues se pueden pmducir tesiones

personales. Si cree qua el motor est_

funcionando demasiado rdpido o dernasiado

lento, lleve su segadora a mas con su centro

de servicio Seam o con un otto centro de

servicio cuelificado.

CARBURADOR

Se carburador tiene un chorro principal fijo no

ajustabte para contmlar la mezcla. Si su motor

no est_ tuncionande en forma adecuada

debido a problemas que se sospecha vienen

del carburador, Ileve su segadora a contacto

con su centro de servicio Sears o con un otro

centre de servicio cualificado para reparada y/

o ajustada.

IMPORTANTE: Nunca manip_e el mgulador

del motor, el qua ha eldo ajustado en la fdbdca

para la velocided del motor adecuada. Puede

ser peligroso hacer funcionar el motor a una

velocidad por sobre el ajuste de alia velocided

de la f_bdca. Si cree que la velocidad aMa

regulada del motor necesita ajus_e,contaclo

con su centro de servicio Sears o con un otro

cerrtro de servicio cualificade, el qua cuenta

con el equipo adecuado y la experiencia pare

hater los ajustes necesarlos.

[nrnedJatamenteprepare su segadora pare el

alrnacenamiento al final de cada temporada o

sila unidad no se vaa user pot 30 dfas o

SEGADORA

Cuando se va a guardar la segadora pot

cierto periodo de fiempo, limpiela

cuidadosamente, rernueva toda la mugre, la

grasa, tas hojas, etc. Gu_dela en un _rea

limpia y seca.

1. Limpie tode la segadora (Vea 'I.IMPIEZA"

en la seccibn de Mantenimiento de este

manual).

2. Lubrlquela segdn se muestra en la

seccibn de Mantenimiento de este manual.

3. Asegdrese de qua todas las tuercas y

clavijas y todos los pemos y tomillos est_n

apretados en fonna segura, Inspaccione

las paMes que se mueven pare verfficar si

est_i,ndai'iadas, quebradas o desgastadas.

C&mbielas si es necesado.

4. Retoque todas las supedicies que es16n

oxidadas o con la pintura picade; use una

lijaantes de pintar.

MANGO

Puede doblar el mango de su segadora para el

elmacenarniento.

1. Apriete los extrernos intedores del mango

infedor entre sl hasta que el mango inferior

quede separado del puntal del mango,

tuego mu6valo hacia adelante.

2. Suelte los pemos de montaje del mango

superior Io suficiente corno pare permitir

que et mango superior se pueda doblar

haela atr_s.

IMPORTANTE: Cuando doble el mango pare

el elmacenamiento o el transports, asegurese

que 1odoble seg0n se muestra o purde dafiar

los cables de control.

• Cuando prepare sus mangos a partir de la

posicibnde elmasenamiento, el mango

1. Drene el estanque de combustibte.

2. Haga arrancar el motor y d_jelo tuncionar

hasta qua las Hneas dal combustible y el

carburador est_n vacios.

• Nunca use los productos para limpieza del

carbumdor o del motor en el estanque de

combustible pues se pueden producir

da_os permanentes.

• Use combustible nuevo la pr6xima

temporada.

AVISO: El establlizador de combustible es una

altemativa aceptable para reducir a un m(nimo

la tormaci6n de depbsitos de goma en el

combustible durante el periodo de

elmacenamiento. Agregue establlizador a la

gasolina en el estanque de combus_ble o en el

envase para el alrnacenamiento. Siempre siga

la pmpomibn de mezcla qua se encuentra en

el envase del establlizader. Haga tuncionar el

motor por Io menos 10 minutos despu6s de

agregar el estabilizador, para permitir que este

Ilegue el carburador. No drene la gasolina del

estanque de gasolina y el carburador si se

estd usando estabilizado_ de combuslible.

ACEITE DEL MOTOR

Drene el aceite (con st motor caliente) y

c_lmbielocon aceite de motor limpio. (Vea

=MOTOR" en la seccibn de Mactenimiento de

este manual.)

ClLINDRO

1. Remueva la bujfa.

2. VacIe 29 ml (una onza) de aceite a traves

del agujero de la bujla en el cilindm.

3. Tire la manina de ananqua lentamente

unas cuantas races para distribuir el

aceite.

4. Carnbie por una bujla nueva.

OTROS

• No guarde la gasolina de una temporade a

la otra.

• Cambie el envase de la gasotina si se

empieza a oxidar. La _idacibn y/o la mugre

en su gasolina producir_n problemas.

• Si es posible, guarde su unidad en un

recinto cer_do y cdbrala para pmtegeda

contra el polvo y la mugre.

• Cubra su unidad con un forro protector

adecuado qua no retenga la hurnedad. No

use pldstico. El pI_stico no puede respirar, Io

qua permile la formacid_nde condensacibn,

Io qua producird la oxidacibn de su unidad.

IMPORTANTE: Nunca cubra la segadora

mientms el motor y las ames de escape to

alcanzar una llama expuesta o una chispa.

Permita qua se enfr_eel motor antes de alma-
