• Neverattemptto unclogeitherthe feed intakeordischarge

opening,removeor emptybag,or inspectand repairthe machine

whilethe engineis running.Shutthe engineoff and wait untilall

movingpartshavecometo a completestop.Disconnectthe spark

plugwireand groundit againstthe engine.

PREPARATION

• Thoroughlyinspecttheareawherethe equipmentis to beused.

Removeall rocks,bottles,cans,or otherforeignobjectswhich

could bepickedupor thrownand cause personalinjuryor

damageto the machine.

• Alwayswear safetyglassesor safetygogglesduring operation

andwhile performingan adjustmentor repair,to protectyour

eyes.Thrownobjectswhich ricochetcan causeseriousinjuryto

the eyes.

• Wearsturdy,rough-soledworkshoesandclose-fittingslacksand

shirts.Loosefittingclothesor jewelrycan be caughtin movable

parts.Neveroperatethismachineinbarefeetorsandals.Wear

leatherworkgloveswhenfeedingmaterialinthe chipperchute.

• Beforestarting,checkallboltsandscrewsfor propertightnessto

besurethe machineis in safe workingcondition.Also,visually

inspectmachinefor any damageat frequentintervals.

• Maintainor replacesafetyand instructionslabels,as necessary.

Safe Handling of Gasoline:

Toavoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecare in

handlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremelyflammableand the vaporsare

explosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycan occurwhengasolineis spilled

onyourselfor yourclotheswhichcan ignite.Washyour skin and

changeclothesimmediately.

• Useonlyan approvedgasolinecontainer.

• Neverfill containersinsidea vehicleor ona truckor trailerbed

witha plasticliner.Alwaysplacecontainerson the groundaway

fromyour vehiclebeforefilling.

• Whenpractical,removegas-poweredequipmentfromthe truck

ortrailerand refuelitonthe ground.Ifthisis notpossible,then

refuelsuchequipmenton a trailerwitha portablecontainer,rather

thanfrom a gasolinedispensernozzle.

• Keepthe nozzlein contactwith the rimof the fuel tankor

containeropeningat alltimes untilfuelingis complete.Do not use

a nozzlelock-opendevice.

• Extinguishallcigarettes,cigars,pipesand other sourcesof

ignition.

• Neverfuel machineindoors.

• Neverremovegas capor add fuel whilethe engineishot or run-

ning.Allowengineto cool at leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.

• Neveroverfill fueltank. Fill tankto nomorethan1/2inchbelow

bottomof filler neckto allowspacefor fuel expansion.

• Replacegasolinecapandtightensecurely.

• Ifgasolineisspilled,wipe itoff theengineand equipment.Move

unitto anotherarea.Wait5 minutesbeforestartingthe engine.

• To reducefire hazards,keepmachinefreeof grass, leaves,or

otherdebrisbuild-up.Cleanupoil orfuel spillageand removeany

fuel soakeddebris.

• Neverstorethe machineor fuel containerinsidewherethereis an

openflame,spark or pilotlightas on a water heater,space heater,

furnace,clothesdryer orothergas appliances.

OPERATION

• Do not puthandsandfeetnearrotatingpartsor in thefeeding

chambersanddischargeopening.Contactwiththe rotating

impellercan amputatefingers,hands,andfeet.

• Beforestartingthe machine,makesurethe chipperchute,feed

intake,andcuttingchamberare emptyand freeof all debris.

• Thoroughlyinspectall materialto be shreddedand removeany

metal,rocks,bottles,cans,or otherforeignobjectswhichcould

causepersonalinjuryor damageto the machine.

• If it becomesnecessaryto pushmaterialthroughthe shredder

hopper,usea smalldiameterstick. Donot useyour handsor feet.

• If the impellerstrikesa foreignobjector if yourmachineshould

start makinganunusualnoiseorvibration,immediatelyshut

the engineoff. Allowthe impellerto cometoa completestop.

Disconnectthe sparkplugwire,grounditagainstthe engineand

performthe followingsteps:

a. Inspectfor damage.

b. Repairor replaceanydamagedparts.

c. Checkfor anyloose partsandtightento assurecontinued

safeoperation.

• Donot allowan accumulationof processedmaterialto buildupin

the dischargearea.This can preventproperdischargeand result

inkickbackof materialthroughthe feedopening.

• Donot attemptto shredor chip materiallargerthanspecified

on the machineor inthis manual.Personalinjuryor machine

damagecould result.

• Neverattemptto unclogeitherthe feedintakeor discharge

openingwhilethe engineis running.Shuttheengineoff,wait until

all movingparts havestopped,disconnectthe spark plug wireand

grounditagainsttheenginebeforeclearingdebris.

• Neveroperatewithoutthe shredderhopper,chipperchute,or

chutedeflectorproperlyattachedto the machine.Neveremptyor

changedischargebag whilethe engineis running.

• Keepall guards,deflectorsand safetydevicesin placeand

operatingproperly.

• Keepyourfaceandbodyback and to the sideof the chipper

chutewhilefeedingmaterialintothe machineto avoidaccidental

kickbackinjuries.

• Neveroperatethis machinewithoutgoodvisibilityorlight.

• Donot operatethismachineona paved,gravelor non-level

surface.

• Donot operatethismachinewhileunderthe influenceof alcohol

or drugs.

• Mufflerand enginebecomehot and cancausea burn.Do not

touch.

• Neverpick up or carry machinewhilethe engineis running.

• If situationsoccurwhichare notcoveredinthis manual,use care

andgoodjudgement.Contact1-800-4-MY-HOMEfor the location

of the nearestSearsParts & RepairServiceCenter.

MAINTENANCE & STORAGE

• Nevertamperwith safetydevices.Checktheir properoperation

regularly.

• Checkboltsandscrewsfor propertightnessat frequentintervals

to keepthe machineinsafeworkingcondition.Also,visually

inspectmachinefor any damageandrepair,if needed.

• Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspecting,stopthe engineand

makecertainthe impellerandall movingparts havestopped.

Disconnectthe sparkplugwireandgrounditagainsttheengine

to preventunintendedstarting.

• Donot changethe enginegovernorsettingsoroverspeedthe

engine.The governorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeed

of the engine.

• Maintainor replacesafetyandinstructionlabels,as necessary.

Followthismanualfor safeloading,unloading,transporting,and

storageof thismachine.

Neverstorethe machineorfuel containerinsidewherethereis an

openflame,sparkorpilot lightsuch as a waterheater,furnace,

clothesdryer,etc.

Allowmachineto cool at least 5 minutesbeforestoring.

• Alwaysreferto the operator'smanualfor properinstructionson

off-seasonstorage.

• If thefuel tankhasto bedrained,do thisoutdoors.

• Observeproperdisposallawsand regulationsfor gas,oil,etc. to

protectthe environment.

• Accordingto the ConsumerProductsSafetyCommission(CPSC)

andthe U.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA),thisproduct

hasan AverageUsefulLifeof seven(7)years,or 60hoursof

operation.At the endof theAverageUsefulLife havethe machine

inspectedannuallybyan authorizedservicedealerto ensurethat

allmechanicalandsafetysystemsareworkingproperlyand not

wornexcessively.Failureto do so can resultinaccidents,injuries

ordeath.

Toavoidseriousinjuryor death, do not modifyenginein anyway.

Tamperingwiththe governorsettingcan leadto a runawayengineand

causeit to operateat unsafespeeds.Nevertamperwithfactorysetting

of enginegovernor.

NOTICE REGARDING EMISSIONS

EngineswhicharecertifiedtocomplywithCaliforniaandfederal

EPAemissionregulationsfor SORE(SmallOff RoadEquipment)are

certifiedto operateon regularunleadedgasoline,and mayinclude

the followingemissioncontrolsystems:EngineModification(EM),

OxidizingCatalyst(CO),SecondaryAirInjection(SAI)and ThreeWay

Catalyst(TWO)if so equipped.

SPARK ARRESTOR

Thismachineis equippedwithan internalcombustionengineand

shouldnotbe usedonor near anyunimprovedforest-covered,

brushcoveredor grass-coveredland unlessthe engine'sexhaust

systemis equippedwitha sparkarrestormeetingapplicablelocal or

statelaws (if any)

Ifa sparkarrestoris used, it shouldbe maintainedin effectiveworking

orderby theoperator.Inthe Stateof Californiathe aboveis required

bylaw (Section4442 of the CaliforniaPublicResourcesCode).Other

statesmayhavesimilarlaws. Federallawsapplyonfederallands.

WARNING-- ROTATING BLADES

Keep hands out of inlet and discharge openings while machine is running. There are rotating blades

OPENING CARTON

1. Cut eachcornerof the cartonverticallyfromtop to bottom.

2. Removeall looseparts.

3. Removeloosepackingmaterial.

REMOVING UNiT FROM CARTON

1. Lift unit from the rearto detach it from underlyingcartonmaterial

androllunit out of carton.

2. Checkcarton thoroughlyfor anyotherlooseparts.

ATTACHING THE HOPPER ASSEMBLY

1. A. Removesixhex nutsandwashersfromthe weldstudson the

impellerhousing.Do not removesupportplate.SeeFigure1.

B. Placehopperassemblyinto positioninfrontof impeller

housing,aligningholesin hopperassemblycollarwithweld

studs.

C. Slidehopperassemblyonto weldstudsand replacewashers

andhex nuts.Do nottightencompletely.

2. A. Lift hopperassemblyup to impellerbracketassembly.See

Figure2.

B. Slidethe releaserodout slightlyto hookthe hopperbracket

ontothe rod.SeeFigure2.

ATTACHING THE BAG

Toattachthe bag:

A. Placetheopeningof the bagcompletelyoverthechute

deflector.

B. Pullon the drawstringuntilthe bag is tight aroundchute

deflectoropening.

C.Clipdrawstringbackon itself,tightagainstchutedeflectorto

secureinto position.SeeFigure8.

Nowthatyou haveset up your chippershredderfor operation,get

aquaintedwithits controlsand features.Theseare describedbelow

andillustratedon thispage.Thisknowledgewillallowyou to useyour

newequipmentto its fullestpotential.

CHIPPER CHUTE

Allowstwigsand small branchesup to 3" indiameterto befed intothe

impellerfor chipping.SeeFigure9.

Theoperationof anychippershreddercan resultin foreignobjects

beingthrownintothe eyes,which can damageyoureyesseverely.

Alwayswearthe safetyglassesprovidedwiththisunitor eye shields

beforechippingor shreddingandwhileperformingany adjustments

or repairs.

TAMPER

HOPPER ASSEMBLY

Allowleavesand smallbranchesup to 1/2diameterto befed intothe

impellerfor chippingandshredding.Materialcan berakedintohopper

assemblyby loweringthe hopperassembly.See Figure9.

RELEASE ROD

The releaserodis locatedon the impellerbracketassemblyand it

is usedto releaseor lock the hopperwhen raisingor lowering.See

Figure9.

CHUTE DEFLECTOR

Chippedandshreddeddebrisis dischargedout thechutedeflector.

Theunit may be operatedwith or withoutthe collectionbagattachedto

the chutedeflector.SeeFigure9.

Thisplugis insertedinto thechipperchuteto pushtwigsandsmall

branchestowardsthe impellerbladeswithoutendangeringyour hands.

TH ROTTLE CONTROL

Thislevercontrolsthe enginespeedandstopfunction.Throughthree

separatepositionsonthe leverfrom left to right,theoperationis as

follows:

Start/Run Slow/Idle Engine Off

CHOKE CONTROL

The chokecontrolis usedto chokethe carburetorand assistinstarting

the engine.

Meets ANSI Safety Standards

CraftsmanYardVacuumsconformto the safetystandardof the AmericanNationalStandardsInstitute(ANSI).

GAS AND OIL FILL-UP

Oil (one bottle shipped with unit)

FirstTime Use

1. Removeoil fill plug.

2. Withthe chippershredderonlevelground,usea funnelto empty

entirecontentsof oil bottleprovidedintothe engine.

3. Replaceoil fill plugandtighten.

Subsequent Uses

Onlyuse high qualitydetergentoil ratedwith APIserviceclassification

SF,SG,or SH.Selectthe oil'sSAEviscositygradeaccordingto the

expectedoperatingtemperature.Followthe chart below.

Oil Viscosity Chart

Alcoholblendedfuels (calledgasoholor usingethanolor methanol)

can attractmoisturewhichleadsto separationand formationof acids

duringstorage.Acidicgascan damagethe fuel systemof an engine

whilein storage.

Toavoidengineproblems,thefuel systemshouldbe emptiedbefore

storagefor 30daysorlonger.Drainthe gas tank,startthe engine

andlet it rununtilthe fuel linesandcarburetorare empty.Use

freshfuel nextseason.See STORAGEInstructionsfor additional

information.

Neveruseengine or carburetorcleanerproductsin the fuel tank or

permanentdamagemayoccur.

NOTE:Checkthe fuel levelperiodicallyto avoid runningout of gaso-

linewhileoperatingthe chippershredder.If the unit runsout of gas as

itischipping,itmay be necessaryto unclogthe dischargeareabefore

itcan be restarted.Referto SERVICEAND MAINTENANCEsection.

Althoughmulti-viscosityoils (5W30,10W30,etc.)improvestarting

incold weather,they will result inincreasedoil consumptionwhen

usedabove32°E Checkyourengine oil level morefrequentlyto avoid

possibleenginedamagefromrunninglowon oil.

1. Checkthe oil levelby removingthe oil fill plug and lookinginto

theoil fill hole.Oil shouldbevisibleup to thethreadsof theoil fill

plug,almostto the pointof overflowing.Fill if necessary.Capac-

ity is approximately28 oz.Overfillingcancause a hazardous

situation,be sureto wipeup anyspilledor excessoil.

2. Replaceoil fill plugandtighten.

3. Keepoil levelat FULL.Runningtheenginewithtoo littleoil can

resultinpermanentenginedamage.

Gasoline

Useextremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremely

flammableand the vaporsareexplosive.Neverfuel machineindoors

orwhilethe engineis hotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,cigars,

pipes,andothersourcesof ignition.

1. Removefuel cap fromthefuel tank.

2. Makesurethe containerfromwhichyouwill pour thegasolineis

cleanand freefromrustor foreignparticles.Neveruse gasoline

thatmaybestalefromlongperiodsof storageinitscontainer.

Gasolinethathasbeensittingfor anyperiodlongerthanfour

weeksshouldbe consideredstale.

3. Fillfuel tankwithclean,fresh,unleadedregulargasolineonly.Do

not usegasolinecontainingMETHANOL.Replacefuelcap.

TO START ENGINE

1. Attach sparkplug wireand rubberbootto sparkplug.

2. Filltankto nomorethan 1/2 inchbelowbottomof filler neck to

providespacefor fuel expansion.

3. Turnthe fuel shut-offvalveto the ONposition.

4. Movethechokeleveron the engineto CHOKEI'_1 position.(A

warmenginemaynot requirechoking.)See Figure10.

TO STOP ENGINE

3. Turnthe fuel shut-offvalveto the OFF position.

4. Disconnectsparkplug wireandgrounditagainsttheengineto

preventaccidentalstartingwhilethe equipmentis unattended.

SHREDDING

Yardwastesuchas leavesand pine needlescan be placedin the

hopperfor shredding.Aftermaterialhas beenprocessedbythe shred-

derbladeandflails, it will beforcedout of the chutedeflector,and, if

attached,into adebriscollectionbag.

Observethe followingguidelineswhenshreddingyarddebris:

• Neverattemptto shredmaterialotherthan normalyarddebris

(leaves,twigs,pinecones,etc.).

• Avoidshreddingfibrousplantssuchas tomatovines,palmfronds,

etc.,untiltheyare thoroughlydriedout. Freshvines do notshred

welland tend to wrapthemselvesaroundthe impellerandflails.

• Placereasonableamountsof debrisintothe hopperat a time. Do

not overloadthe hopper.

• Allowthe materialin the hopperto be drawnintothe bladesand

shreddedbeforeaddingadditionaldebristo the hopper.Failureto

dueso mayresultin a cloggedhopper,cloggedchutedeflectoror

a stalledengine.

CHIPPING

Branchesupto 3" in diametercan befed intothe chipperchute.

Observethe followingguidelineswhenchippingbranches:

• Keepbothhandsfirmlyonthe branchas youfeed it intothe

chipperchute.

• Neverfeed morethan onebranchintothe chipperchuteat a time.

• Neverfeed anythingotherthan branches(orwood) intothe

chipperchute.

• Apply intermittentpressure(force,inshortpulses)whilefeeding

larger(3-inchdiameter)branchesinto thechipperchute,to avoid

boggingor stallingthe engine.

IMPORTANT:Neverfeed brancheswith a diametergreaterthan

three (3)inchesintothe chipperchute.Doingso can resultin serious

damageto yourunit'schipperblades,flailsor impeller.

NOTE:Forbestperformance,alwaysoperatethe unitwith sharp

chipperblades.If a noticeableloss in performanceisencountered

whilechippingbranches,the chipperbladesshouldbe replaced.

LOWERING THE HOPPER ASSEMBLY

1. With one hand graspthe handleat the topof the hopperassem-

blyand lift slightly.

2. With the otherhandpullout onthe releaserodandlowerthe

hopperassemblyto theground.

TO EMPTY BAG

1. Un-clipdrawstringandloosenbag fromchute deflectoropening.

2. Emptybag and reattachto the dischargechuteopening.Pullon

the drawstringuntilthe bag is tight aroundthe chuteopeningand

clip the drawstringtight againstthe chutedeflector.

IMPORTANT:The flail screenis locatedinsidethe housingin the

dischargearea. Ifthe flail screenbecomesclogged,removeand

cleanas instructedin the Serviceand Maintenancesection.For best

performance,it is also importantto keepthe chipperbladessharp.

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

Beforeperforminganytypeof maintenance/service,disengageall

controlsandstoptheengine.Waituntilallmovingpartshavecometo

acompletestop.Disconnectsparkplugwireandgrounditagainstthe

Servicing the Air Cleaner

Clean Engine

Dailyor beforeevery use, cleangrass,chaffor accumulated

debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,andcontrolsclean.

Keepareaaroundandbehindmufflerfreeof any combustible

debris.

• Keepingenginecleanallowsairmovementaroundengine.

• Engineparts shouldbe keptcleanto reducethe risk of overheat-

ingandignitionof accumulateddebris.

NOTE:Cleaningwitha forcefulspray of wateris not recommendedas

REMOVING THE FLAIL SCREEN

Beforeperformingany typeof maintenanceonthe machine waitfor

all partsto stop movingand disconnectthe sparkplugwire. Failure

to followthis instructioncouldresultinpersonalinjuryor property

damage.

Ifthe dischargeareabecomesclogged,removethe flail screenand

cleanarea as follows:

Stopthe engine.Makecertainthe chippershredderhascometo

a completestop.

Disconnectsparkplugwirefromsparkplugandgroundagainst

the engine.

2. Removethe flail screenas instructedin the previoussection.

3. Removethe chipperchuteby removingthreehexnutsand

washers.

4. Removethe chipperchutesupportbracefrom the frameby

removingthe hexbolts.

5. Rotateimpellerassemblyby handuntil youlocateone of two

chipperbladesin thechipperchuteopening.

6. Removethebladeby removingthe internalhex screws,lock

washers,andhex nutswhichsecureit to the impeller.Retainthe

NOTE:Use a 3/16" hexkey (Allen)wrenchon theoutsideof the blade

anda 1/2" box(or socket)wrenchonthe insideof the impeller.Hold

the Allenwrenchstationaryand rotatethe box(or socket)wrenchto

7. Installa replacementblade(Part No.742-0544)withthe hardware

removedearlieror sharpenand replaceexistingblade.

IMPORTANT:Whensharpeningthe blade,protecthandsby using

gloves.Followthe originalangleof grindandmakesureto removean

equalamountfromeachblade.

8. To replacetheother blade,rotatethe impellerto exposethe

secondbladeand repeatthe stepsabove.

NOTE: Makecertainbladesare reassembledwith the sharpedge

facingthe samedirectionas when removed.Torquehardwareto 250

- 300 in. Ibs.

The impeller'schipperbladesand shredderbladearesharp.Wear

leatherworkglovesto protectyour hands.

SHARPENING OR REPLACING THE

SHREDDER BLADE

1. Stopthe engineandmakecertainthatallmovingpartshave

cometo a completestop.

2. Disconnectthe sparkplugwire andgroundagainsttheengine.

3. Lowerthehopperassemblyand placea blockundertheflailhousing.

4. Removethesix hexlocknutsandflatwashersfromthe weld

studson the flail housing.Retainthe hardware.

5. Carefullyseparatethe hopperassemblyfrom the impelleras-

semblyandremovethe shredderplate.The shredderplatecan be

identifiedby referringto item29 in theparts list onpage20& 21.

NOTE:Whenreassemblingtheshredderplate, makecertainthe

embossedtab facesinwardtowardsthe impeller.

6. Removethe twowingknobs that securethe chuteddlector and

raisethe chute.

7. Inserta 1/2"or 3/4" diameterpipethroughtheshredderscreen

intothe impellerto keepit fromturningor removetheflail screen

and inserta pieceof woodintothe chute opening.

8. A. Removethe twointernalhexscrews,lockwashers,and hex

locknutswhichsecurethe shredderbladeto the impeller.

B. Removethe hex bolt, lockwasher,and flatwasherto

completelyfree shredderblade.See Figure16.

IMPORTANT:Whensharpeningthe blade,followtheoriginalangle

of grindas a guide.It is extremelyimportantthateachcuttingedge

receivesan equalamountof grindingto preventan unbalancedblade.

An unbalancedbladewill causeexcessivevibrationwhen rotatingat

highspeedsandmaycausedamageto the unit.The bladecan be

testedby balancingit on ascrewdriverornail. Removemetal fromthe

heavysideuntil it is balancedevenly.

Neverstorechippershredderwithfuelintankindoorsorinpoorly

ventilatedareaswherefuelfumesmayreachanopenflame,spark,

orpilotlightasonafurnace,waterheater,clothesdryer,orgas

appliance.

PREPARING THE ENGINE

Forenginesstoredover30 days:

1. To preventgumfromforminginfuel systemor on carburetor

parts, runengineuntilit stopsfromlackof fuelor adda gasoline

additiveto the gas inthe tank. Ifyou usea gas additive,runthe

enginefor severalminutesto circulatethe additivethroughthe

carburetor--afterwhichthe engineandfuel can bestoredup to

six months.

2. Whileengineis stillwarm,changethe oil. See ChangeEngineOil

in SERVICEANDMAINTENANCEsection.

3. Removesparkplugand pourapproximately1 oz. (30ml) of clean

engineoil intothe cylinder.Pullthe recoilstarterseveraltimesto

distributethe oil, andreinstallthe sparkplug.

4. Cleanengineof surfacedebris.

PREPARING THE CHIPPER SHREDDER

* Whenstoringthe chippershredderin an unventilatedor metal

storageshed,careshouldbetakento rustproofthe non-painted

surfaces.Usinga lightoil or silicone,coat the equipment,

especiallyany springs,bearings,andcables.

, Removealldirt fromexteriorof engineandequipment.

, Followlubricationrecommendations.

o Storeequipmentin a clean,dry area.Do not storenextto

failuresof WarrantedPartswhichare notoriginal Searspartsor because

of abuse,neglector impropermaintenanceas setforth inthe Sears

EngineWarrantyPolicy.Sears is notliableto coverfailuresof Warranted

Partscausedby theuse of add-on,non-original,or modifiedparts.

5. Maintenance

Any WarrantedPart whichis notscheduledfor replacementas required

maintenanceor whichis scheduledonly for regularinspectionto the effect

of "repairor replaceas necessary"shallbe warrantedas to defectsfor the

warrantyperiod.Any WarrantedPartwhich is scheduledfor replacement

as requiredmaintenanceshallbe warrantedas to defectsonly forthe

Look For Relevant Emissions Durability Period and

Air index information On Your Engine Emissions Label

Engines that are certified to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Tier 2 Emission Standards must

display information regarding the Emissions Durability Period and the Air Index. Sears Brands Management

Corporation makes this information available to the consumer on our emission labels.

The Emissions Durability Period describes the number of hours of actual running time for which the engine is

certified to be emissions compliant, assuming proper maintenance in accordance with the Operating & Mainte-

nance Instructions. The following categories are used:

Moderate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 125 hours of actual engine running time.

Intermediate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 250 hours of actual engine running time.

Extended: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 500 hours of actual engine running time.

For example, a typical walk-behind lawn mower is used 20 to 25 hours per year. Therefore, the Emissions

Durability Period of an engine with an intermediate rating would equate to 10 to 12 years.

The Air index is a calculated number describing the relative level of emissions for a specific engine family. The

lower the Air Index, the cleaner the engine. This information is displayed in graphical form on the emissions label.

On Engine Emissions Compliance Label

After July 1, 2000 certain Sears Brands Management Corporation engines will be certified to meet the United

States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Phase 2 emission standards. For Phase 2 certified engines, the

Emissions Compliance Period referred to on the Emissions Compliance label indicates the number of operating

hours for which the engine has been shown to meet Federal emission requirements.

For engines less than 225 cc displacement, Category C = 125 hours, B = 250 hours and A = 500 hours.

For engines of 225 cc or more, Category C = 250 hours, B = 500 hours and A = 1000 hours.

This is a generic representation of the emission label typically found on a certified engine.

de lagarantia excluir_defectosen piezascon garantiaqueno scan partes

originalesSears,o abuso,negligenciao mantenimientoincorrecto,tal y

como se estableceen lapolitica degarantia para motoresSears.Sears no

es responsablede lasfallas en piezascon garantia provocadaspor el uso

de partesa6adidas,que no scan originaleso quese hayan modificado.

5. Mantenimiento

Cualquierpartecon garantiaque no este programadaparaserreem-

plazadacomomantenimientorequerido,o que s61odebainspeccionarse

regularmentealefecto de "inspeccioneo reemplacesegL]nsea necesario",

estar_garantizadacontradefectos duranteel periodode la garantia.Todas

las piezasgarantizadasqueesten programadaspara su reemplazopara

Los motores cuyo cumpiimiento con los estAndares de emisi6n Tier 2 de la Comisi6n de Recursos Ambientales de California (CARB)

est6 certificado deben exhibir la informaci6n relacionada con el periodo de duraci6n de ias emisiones y la clasificaci6n de aire. Sears

Brands Management Corporation ponen esta informaci6n a disposici6n del consumidor en nuestras etiquetas de emisiones.

Ei Periodo de Duraci6n de las Emisiones describe el nQmero de horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento para el cuai se certifica que

el motor cumpie con ias reglas de emisi6n, descontando el mantenimiento adecuado del mismo segQn las instrucciones de oper-

aci6n y mantenimiento. Se utilizan las siguientes categonas:

Moderado:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 125 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor.

Inmediato:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 250 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor.

Extendido:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 500 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor.

Por ejemplo, una cortadora de c6sped tJpica que se empuja desde arras se usa entre 20 y 25 horas por aSo. Por Io tanto, el Periodo

de Duraci6n de Emisiones de un motor con una clasificaci6n intermedia sena equivaiente a entre 10 y 12 aSos.

Laciasificaci6n de aire es un nQmero calculado para describir el nivel relativo de emisiones para un grupo de motores en particular.

Cuanto menor sea la clasificaci6n de aire, mayor es la limpieza del motor. La informaci6n se presenta de forma grAfica en la etiqueta

de emisiones.

Despu_s del 1 de julio de 2000, busque el periodo de cumplimiento de las reglas de

emisiones en la etiqueta de cumplimiento de las reglas de emisiones del motor

Despu6s del 1 de julio de 2000 se certificarA que determinados motores Sears Brands Management Corporation cumplen

con los estAndares de emisiones de la fase 2 de la Agencia de Protecci6n Ambientai de los Estados Unidos (USEPA). Para

los motores certificados para la etapa 2, el periodo de cumplimiento con ias reglas de emisiones al cual se hace referencia

en la etiqueta de cumplimiento con las reglas de emisiones indica el nQmero de horas de funcionamiento para el cual se ha

demostrado que el motor cumple con los requerimientos federales de emisi6n.

Para los motores con desplazamiento inferior a 225 cc, Categoria C = 125 horas, B = 250 horas y A = 500 horas.

Para los motores con desplazamiento de 225 cc o mAs, Categoria C = 250 horas, B = 500 horas y A = 1000 horas.

El desplazamiento de los motores de la serie modelo 150112 es 249 cc.
