To Service Air Filter
1. Loosenaircleanercoverscrew,butdo not removescrewfrom
cover.Swingcoverdownto removefromhinge.
2. Inspectfilterfor discolorationor dirt accumulation.If eitheris
present,proceedas follows:
a. Cleaninsideof bodyand coverthoroughlyandremovecartridge.
b. Reassemblenewcartridgeinthe body. Swingcoverdown and
tightenthe screwloosenedearlier.
,_ Temperatureof muffler and nearby areas mayexceed150° F(65°0). Avoidthese areas.

NOTE:Althoughmulti-viscosityoils (5W30,10W30,etc.)improve
startingincold weather,theywill result in increasedoil consumption
whenusedabove32°RCheckyourengineoil levelmorefrequentlyto
avoidpossibleenginedamagefrom runninglowon oil.
Changeengineoil afterthefirst five hoursof operation,andevery50
hoursthereafter.Changeoil every25hoursof operationif the engine
is operatedunder heavyload or in high ambienttemperatures.
To Drain Oil
Drainoilwhile engineis warm.Followthe instructionsgivenbelow.
1. Todrainthegas tank,start the engineand let it rununtilthe fuel
lineandcarburetorareempty.
2. Removedrain plug on theside of the engineanddrainoil intoa
suitablecontainer.
3. Whenengineis drainedof alloil, replacedrainplugand refillwith
approximately20 oz.of freshoil. Referto GasAndOil Fill-upin
OPERATIONsection.
Service Air Cleaner
Theair cleanerpreventsdamagingdirt, dust,etc., fromenteringthe
carburetorandbeingforcedintothe engineand is importantto engine
lifeand performance.
Service Spark Plug
• Cleanthe sparkplugand resetthe gapto.030"at leastoncea
seasonor every50 hoursof operation.
• Cleanarea aroundsparkplug. Removeand inspectspark plug.
• Replaceif electrodesarepitted,burnedor the porcelainis cracked.
• Checkelectrodegap with wirefeelergaugeand resetgap to.030
inches.SeeFigure5-3.
NOTE:Do not sandsparkplug.Sparkplugshouldbe cleaned with a
wire brushand a commercialsolvent.
Clean Engine
,, Cleanengineperiodically,by removingdirt anddebriswitha cloth
or brush.
NOTE:Cleaningwitha forcefulsprayof wateris not recommendedas
watercouldcontaminatethe fuelsystem.
,, Toensuresmoothoperationof the engine,keepthegovernor
linkage,springs,andcontrolsfreeof debris.
,, Every 100 hoursof operation,removecombustiondepositsfrom
top of cylinder,head,topof piston,and aroundvalves.
_ WARNING:Never runthe enginewithout an air
cleanercompletelyassembled.
