Hydraulic Fluid and Inlet Filter
• Cheekthe hydraulicfluid levelin thelogsplitterreservoirtank
beforeeach use. Maintainfluid levelwithintherangespecifiedon
thedipstickat all times.
,, Changethe hydraulicfluid inthe reservoirevery 100hoursof
operation.Followthe stepsbelow:
1. Disconnectthe suctionhosefromthebottomof the reservoirtank.
2. Carefullyunthreadthe inlet filterand clean it with penetratingoil.
SeeFigure5-2.
3. Allowthe fluidto drainintoa suitablecontainer.
4. Reinsertthe filter and refillthe reservoirwiththree gallonsof
oil.ApprovedfluidsincludeDexron®III/ Mercon®IIIautomatic
transmissionfluid,a 10WeightAWhydraulicoil or Pro-MixTM
AW-32HydraulicOil.
,, Maintainfluid levelwithinthe rangespecifiedon the dipstickat all
times.
NOTE:Alwaysdisposeof usedhydraulicfluidand engineoil at
approvedrecyclingcentersonly.
Contaminantsin fluid maydamagethe hydrauliccomponents.
Flushingthe reservoirtankand hoseswithkerosenewhenever
serviceis performedon thetank, hydraulicpumporvalveis
recommended.Any repairto the hydrauliccomponentsshouldbe
performedby a SearsServiceCenter.
_ ARNING:Useextremecautionwhenworkingwith
kerosene.It is an extremelyflammable fluid.

Beam and Splitting Wedge
,, Lubricateboth sidesof the beam(whereit comesintocontactwith
the splittingwedge),beforeeachuse, with engineoil. Thewedge
plateonthe log splitteris designedso thegibs onthe side of the
wedgeplatecan be removedandrotatedand/orturnedoverfor
evenwear.
,, Makecertain to readjustthe adjustmentbolts so wedgemoves
freely,but no excessspaceexists betweenthe wedgeplateandthe
beam.

mustbeto FULL markon dipstick.
