The item on which the cutting operations is being
performed.

The cutting tool used in the drill press to make holes
in a workpiece.
3. Backup Material
A piece of wood placed between the workpiece and
table .... it prevents wood in the workpiece from
splintering when the drill passes through the back-
side of the workpiece .... also prevents drilling into
the table top.
