andwhile performingan adjustmentor repairto protectyoureyes.
Thrownobjectswhichricochetcancause seriousinjuryto the
eyes.
Wearsturdy,rough-soledwork shoesand close-fittingslacks
and shirts.Shirtsand pantsthat coverthe arms and legsand
steel-toedshoesare recommended.Neveroperatethis machine
inbarefeet,sandals,slipperyor light-weight(e.g.canvas)shoes.
Donot put handsor feet near rotatingpartsor underthe cutting
deck. Contactwith bladecan amputatefingers,hands,toesand
feet.
A missingor damageddischargecovercan causebladecontact
or thrownobjectinjuries.
Manyinjuriesoccur as a resultof the mowerbeing pulledoverthe
footduringafall causedby slippingor tripping.Do not holdon to
the mowerif you arefalling;releasethe handleimmediately.
Neverpullthe mowerbacktowardyouwhileyou arewalking.If
you mustbackthe mowerawayfroma wallor obstructionfirst
lookdownandbehindto avoidtrippingand then followthese
steps:
1. Stepbackfrommowerto fullyextendyourarms.
2. Be sureyouare wellbalancedwithsurefooting.
3. Pullthe mowerback slowly,no morethan half waytoward
you.
4. Repeatthese stepsas needed.
Donot operatethe mowerwhileunderthe influenceof alcoholor
drugs.
Donot engagethe self-propelledmechanismon machinesso
equippedwhilestartingengine.

• The bladecontrolhandleis a safetydevice.Neverattemptto
bypassits operation.Doingso makesthe safetydeviceinopera-
tiveandmayresultin personalinjurythroughcontactwiththe
rotatingblade.The bladecontrol handlemustoperateeasily
in bothdirectionsand automaticallyreturnto the disengaged
positionwhenreleased.
• Neveroperatethe mowerin wet grass.Alwaysbe sureof your
footing. A slip andfall cancauseseriouspersonalinjury.If you
feelyou arelosingyourfooting,releasethe bladecontrolhandle
immediatelyandthe bladewill stop rotatingwithinthreeseconds.
• Mowonly in daylightor goodartificiallight.Walk,neverrun.
• Stopthe bladewhencrossinggraveldrives,walksor roads.
• Ifthe equipmentshouldstart to vibrateabnormally,stop the
engineandcheckimmediatelyfor the cause.Vibrationis gener-
allya warningof trouble.
• Shutthe engineoff and wait untilthe bladecomesto a complete
stopbeforeremovingthe grasscatcheror uncloggingthe chute.
Thecuttingbladecontinuesto rotatefor a few secondsafterthe
bladecontrolis released.Neverplaceany partof the body inthe
bladeareauntilyou aresurethe bladehasstoppedrotating.
• Neveroperatemowerwithoutpropertrail shield,dischargecover,
grasscatcher,bladecontrolhandleor othersafety protectivede-
vicesin placeandworking.Neveroperatemowerwithdamaged
safetydevices.Failureto do socan resultin personalinjury.
Mufflerand engine becomehotand can causea burn.Do not
touch.
• Neverattemptto makea wheelorcuttingheightadjustmentwhile
theengineis running.
• Onlyuse partsand accessoriesmadeforthis machineby the
manufactureras listedin the Partspagesof thisOperator's
Manual.Failureto do so can resultin personalinjury.
• Whenstartingengine,pullcordslowlyuntil resistanceis felt,then
pullrapidly.Rapidretractionof startercord (kickback)willpull
handandarm towardenginefasterthanyoucan let go. Broken
bones,fractures,bruisesor sprainscould result.
• If situationsoccurwhicharenot coveredinthismanual,usecare

SLOPE OPERATION
Slopesare a majorfactor relatedto slipandfall accidents,whichcan
resultinsevereinjury.Operationon slopes requiresextracaution.If
youfeel uneasyona slope,do not mowit. Foryour safety,usethe
SlopeGuideincludedas partof this manualto measureslopesbefore
operatingthis machineon a slopedor hillyarea. If the slopeis greater
than 15degrees,donot mowit.
Do:
o
Mowacrossthefaced slopes;neverupanddown.Exercise
extremecautionwhenchangingdirectiononslopes.
• Watchfor holes,ruts, rocks,hiddenobjects,or bumpswhich can
causeyou to slip ortrip.Tallgrasscan hideobstacles.
• Alwaysbesureof yourfooting.A slipand fall can causeserious
personalinjury.If you feelyou are losingyourbalance,release
the bladecontrolhandleimmediatelyandthe bladewillstop
rotatingwithinthree (3) seconds.
DoNot:
• Donot mow neardrop-offs,ditchesor embankments,you could
lose yourfootingor balance.
Donot mowslopesgreaterthan 15degreesas shownon the
slopegauge.
• Donot mowon wet grass.Unstablefootingcouldcauseslipping.
CHILDREN
Tragicaccidentscan occurif the operatoris not alertto the presence
of children.Childrenare often attractedto themowerand the mowing
activity.Theydonot understandthe dangers.Neverassumethat
childrenwill remainwhereyou lastsawthem.
Keepchildrenout of the mowingarea and underwatchfulcareof
a responsibleadultotherthan theoperator.
Bealertandturn moweroffif achild entersthe area.
Beforeand whilemovingbackwards,look behindanddown for
smallchildren.
Useextremecare whenapproachingblindcorners,doorways,
shrubs,trees,or otherobjectsthat mayobscureyourvision of a
child whomayrunintothe mower.
Keepchildrenawayfrom hot or runningengines.Theycan suffer
burnsfrom a hot muffler.
Neverallowchildrenunder 14yearsof age to operatethis
machine.Children14and overshouldreadand understandthe
instructionsand safeoperationpracticesinthis manualandon
the machineand be trainedand supervisedby an adult.
SERVICE
Safe HandlingOf Gasoline:
• Toavoid personalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecare
in handlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremelyflammableandthe
vaporsareexplosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhen
gasolineis spilledon yourselfor yourclothes,whichcan ignite.
Washyour skinandchangeclothesimmediately.
• Useonly an approvedgasolinecontainer.
• Neverfill containersinsidea vehicleoron atruck ortrailer bed
witha plasticliner.Alwaysplacecontainerson theground away
fromyourvehiclebeforefilling.
• Removegas-poweredequipmentfromthetruck ortrailerand
refuelit on the ground.If this is notpossible,then refuelsuch
equipmenton a trailer witha portablecontainer,ratherthanfrom
a gasolinedispensernozzle.
• Keepthe nozzlein contactwith the rimof the fueltank or
containeropeningat all timesuntilfuelingis complete.Donot use
a nozzlelock-opendevice.

• Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars,pipesand othersources
of ignition.
• Neverfuelmachineindoorsbecauseflammablevaporswill
accumulateinthe area.
• Neverremovegas cap oraddfuel whileengineis hotor running.
Allowengineto coolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.
• Neveroverfill fuel tank.Toallowfor expansionof the fuel,do not
fill abovethe bottomof the fueltank neck.
• Replacegasolinecapand tighten securely.
• If gasolineis spilled,wipe it off the engineand equipment.Move
machineto anotherarea.Wait5 minutesbeforestartingengine.
• Neverstorethe machineorfuel containernearanopenflame,
sparkor pilot lightas ona waterheater,spaceheater,furnace,
clothesdryer or othergas appliances.
• Toreducefirehazard,keepmachinefreeof grass,leaves,or
otherdebrisbuild-up.Cleanupoil orfuel spillageand removeany
fuelsoakeddebris.
Allowmachineto cool at least5 minutesbeforestoring.
GeneralService:
• Neverrunan engine indoorsor ina poorlyventilatedarea.Engine
exhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,anodorlessanddeadlygas.
• Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspecting,makecertain the
bladeandall movingparts havestopped.Disconnectthe spark
plugwireandgroundagainstthe engineto preventunintended
starting.
Checktheblade and enginemountingbolts at frequentintervals
for propertightness.Also, visuallyinspectbladefordamage(e.g.,
bent,cracked,worn).Replacebladewiththeoriginalequipment
manufacture's(O.E.M.)bladeonly,listedin the Parts pagesof this
manual.Useof partswhichdo not meetthe originalequipment
specificationsmayleadto improperperformanceand compro-
misesafety!
• Mowerbladesare sharpandcan cut. Wrapthe bladeor wear
gloves,and use extracautionwhen servicingthem.
Keepall nuts,bolts,and screwstight to be suretheequipmentis
insafeworkingcondition.
Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproperoperation
regularly.
Afterstrikinga foreignobject, stopthe engine,disconnectthe
sparkplugwireand groundagainstthe engine.Thoroughly
inspectthe mowerfor anydamage.Repairthe damagebefore
startingand operatingthe mower.
Neverattemptto makea wheelor cuttingheightadjustmentwhile
the engineisrunning.
• Grasscatchercomponents,dischargecover,and trailshieldare
subjectto wearand damagewhichcouldexposemovingpartsor
allowobjectsto be thrown.Forsafetyprotection,frequentlycheck
componentsand replaceimmediatelywithoriginalequipment
manufacturer's(O.E.M.)partsonly,listedinthe Parts pages
of thismanual.Useof partswhichdo notmeet the original
equipmentspecificationsmayleadto improperperformanceand
compromisesafety!
Donot changethe engine'sgovernorsettingor over-speedthe
engine.Thegovernorcontrolsthe maximumsafe operatingspeed
of the engine.
Checkfuel line,tank,cap, and fittings frequentlyfor cracksor
leaks.Replaceifnecessary.
Donot crankenginewith sparkplug removed.
• Maintainor replacesafetyandinstructionlabels,as necessary.
• Observeproperdisposallawsand regulations.Improperdisposal
of fluidsandmaterialscan harmthe environment.
Accordingto theConsumerProductsSafetyCommission(CPSC)
andthe U.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA),this product
hasan AverageUsefulLifeof seven(7)years,or 140hoursof
operation.At the endof theAverageUsefulLifehavethe machine
inspectedannuallyby a Searsorotherqualifiedservicedealer
to ensurethatall mechanicaland safetysystemsare working
properlyand notwornexcessively.Failureto do so can result in
accidents,injuriesor death.
DO NOT MODIFY ENGINE
Toavoidseriousinjuryor death,do not modifyengine inany way.
Tamperingwiththe governorsettingcanlead to a runawayengineand
causeitto operateat unsafespeeds.Nevertamperwithfactorysetting
of enginegovernor.Doingso will voidthe productwarranty.
NOTICE REGARDING EMISSIONS
Engineswhich are certifiedtocomplywith Californiaand federal
EPAemissionregulationsfor SORE(SmallOff RoadEquipment)are
certifiedto operateon regularunleadedgasoline,and mayinclude
the followingemissioncontrol systems:EngineModification(EM) and
ThreeWay Catalyst(TWC)ifso equipped.
SPARK ARRESTOR
Thismachineisequippedwith an internalcombustionengineand
shouldnotbe usedon or nearany unimprovedforest-covered,
brushcoveredor grass-coveredland unlessthe engine'sexhaust
systemisequippedwith a sparkarrestermeetingapplicablelocalor
statelaws (if any).
Ifa sparkarresterisused, itshouldbe maintainedin effectiveworking
orderby theoperator.Inthe Stateof Californiathe aboveis required
bylaw(Section4442 of the CaliforniaPublicResourcesCode). Other
statesmayhavesimilarlaws. Federallawsapplyon federallands.
A sparkarresterfor the mufflerisavailablethroughyournearestSears
PartsandRepairServiceCenter.

READ THE OPERATOR'S MANUAL(S)
Read, understand, and follow all instructions in the manual(s) before attempting to assemble and
operate
DANGER -- ROTATING BLADES
To reduce the risk of injury, keep hands and feet away. Do not operate unless discharge cover or grass
catcher is in its proper place. If damaged, replace immediately.
DANGER -- BYSTANDERS
Do not mow when children or others are around.
DANGER-- HAND/FOOT CUT
Keep hands and feet away from rotating parts.
DANGER -- THROWN DEBRIS
Remove objects that can be thrown by the blade in any direction. Wear safety glasses.
DANGER -- SLOPES
Use extra caution on slopes. Do not mow slopes greater than 15°.
WARNING--GASOLINE IS FLAMMABLE
Allow the engine to cool at least two minutes before refueling.
WARNING-- CARBON MONOXIDE
Never run an engine indoors or in a poorly ventilated area. Engine exhaust contains carbon
monoxide, an odorless and deadly gas.
WARNING-- HOT SURFACE
Engine parts, especially the muffler, become extremely hot during operation. Allow engine and
muffler to cool before touching.

Cutting Height

3. Releaselevertowardsdeck.
IMPORTANT:All wheels mustbe placedinthe sameposition.For
roughor unevenlawns,moveeachheightadjustmentleverto a higher
position.This will preventyoufrom cuttingthe grass tooclose to the
ground.

RECOIL STARTER
The recoilstarteris attachedto the rightupper handle.Standbehind
the unitandpullthe recoilstarter ropeto start the unit.
CUTTING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT LEVERS
Oneadjustmentleveris locatedon eachwheeland is used toadjust
the cuttingheight.All four levershaveto be at the same positionto
ensurea uniformcut.
GAS CAP
Removethe gascap to add fuel to the fueltank. Useclean, fresh,
regularunleadedgasolinewith a minimumof 86 octane.
OIL FILL CAP/DIPSTICK
Referto the Maintenancesectionfor instructionsoncheckingthe oil.
SPARK PLUG
Referto the Maintenancesectionfor instructionsonsparkplug
replacement.
GRASS CATCHER
Thegrass catcher,locatedat the rearof the mower,is usedto bag the
grassclippingsfor disposalat anothersite.Oncethe bag is full, it has
to be removedfromthe mowerandemptiedbeforeanyfurther mowing.

CraftsmanLawnMowersconformto the safetystandardof the AmericanNationalStandardsInstitute(ANSI).

FirstTime Use
1. Removeoil fill dipstick (G). See Figure10.
2. Withthe moweron levelground,use afunnelto emptyentire

2. Standingbehindthe mower,squeezethe bladecontrolagainst
upperhandle.
3. Holdingthese two handlestogetherfirmly,grasprecoilstarter
handleandpull ropeout with a rapid,continuous,full arm stroke.

roperewindslowly.Repeatuntilenginecranks.Let the rope
rewindeachtime slowly.

TO STOP ENGINE
1. Releasebladecontrolto stopthe engineandblade.
Waitfor the bladeto stopcompletelybeforeperformingany workon

USING YOUR LAWN MOWER
Besure lawnis clearof stones,sticks,wire,orotherobjectswhich
coulddamagelawnmoweror engine.Suchobjectscouldbe accidently
thrownby themowerin anydirectionand cause seriouspersonalinjury
to the operatorand others.
The operationof any lawnmowercan resultinforeignobjectsbeing
thrownintothe eyes,which candamageyoureyesseverely.Always
wear safetyglasseswhileoperatingthe mower,or whileperforming
any adjustmentsor repairsonit.
USING AS MULCHER
For mulchinggrass,removethe grasscatcherand sidedischarge
chutefromthe mower.Foreffectivemulching,do not cut wet grass. If
the grasshas beenallowedto grow in excessof four inches,mulching
is not recommended.Usethe grasscatcherto bag clippingsinstead.
USING GRASS CATCHER
Youcanuse the grasscatcherto collectclippingswhileyou are
operatingthe mower.
1. Attachgrasscatcherfollowinginstructionsinthe "Assembly"
section.Grassclippingswill automaticallycollect inbag as you
runmower.Operatemoweruntil grassbagisfull.
2. Stopenginecompletelyby releasingthe bladecontrol.Makesure
thatthe unit hascometo a completestop.
3. Lift dischargedoor and pull grass bag up and awayfrom the
mowerto removethe bag.Disposeof the grassclippingsand
reinstallthe bagwhencomplete.
Ifyou strikeaforeignobject,stop theengine.Removewire fromthe
sparkplug,thoroughlyinspectmowerfor anydamage,andrepair
damagebeforerestartingandoperating.Extensivevibrationof mower
duringoperationisan indicationof damage.Theunit shouldbe
promptlyinspectedand repaired.

Nevertip the mowermorethan 900in any directionand do not leave
the mowertippedfor any lengthof time. Oilcandraininto the upper
partof the enginecausinga startingproblem.
3. Scrapeand cleanthe undersideof thedeck witha suitabletool.
Donot spraywithwater.
IMPORTANT:Donot usea pressurewasheror gardenhoseto clean
yourunit. These maycausedamageto bearings,or the engine.The
useof waterwill resultin shortenedlife and reduceserviceability.
4. Putthe mowerback on its wheelson the ground.

1. Liftreardoor,and press flapin on either sideto removefrom hole.

BLADE CARE
Whenremovingthe cuttingbladefor sharpeningor replacement,
protectyour handswitha pairof heavyglovesoruse a heavy ragto
holdthe blade.
Periodicallyinspectthe blade adapterfor cracks,especiallyif you
strikea foreignobject. Replacewhennecessary.Followthe steps
belowfor bladeservice.
1. Disconnectsparkplug bootfrom spark plug.Turnmoweron its
side makingsurethattheair filter andthecarburetorare facing
up.
2. Removethe boltandthe bladebellsupportwhichholdthe blade
andthe bladeadapterto theengine crankshaft.SeeFigure16.
3. Removebladeandadapterfrom the crankshaft.
4. Removebladefromthe adapterfor testingbalance.Balancethe
bladeon a roundshaft screwdriverto check.Removemetalfrom
the heavyside untilit balancesevenly.Whensharpeningthe
blade,followthe originalangleof grind.Grindeachcuttingedge
equallyto keepthe bladebalanced.
Anunbalancedblade willcause excessivevibrationwhenrotatingat
highspeeds.It maycause damageto mowerandcouldbreakcausing
personalinjury.

Repairor replacementof anyWarrantedPartwill be performedat no
chargeto the owner,includingdiagnosticlabor whichleads to the
determinationthata WarrantedPartis defective,if the diagnosticworkis
performedat an AuthorizedSears ServiceDealer.For emissionswarranty

Mowers,"orsimilarcategory.
4. Claimsand CoverageExclusions
Warrantyclaimsshall be filed in accordancewiththe provisionsof the
Sears EngineWarrantyPolicy.Warrantycoverageshall be excludedfor
failuresof WarrantedPartswhichare not original Searspartsor because
of abuse,neglector impropermaintenanceas setforth inthe Sears
EngineWarrantyPolicy.Sears is notliableto coverfailuresof Warranted
Partscausedby the use of add-on, non-original,or modifiedparts.
5. Maintenance
Any WarrantedPart whichis notscheduledfor replacementas required
maintenanceor whichis scheduledonly for regularinspectionto the effect
of "repairor replaceas necessary"shallbe warrantedasto defectsfor the
warrantyperiod.Any WarrantedPartwhich is scheduledfor replacement
as requiredmaintenanceshallbe warrantedasto defectsonly forthe
periodof time upto the first scheduledreplacementfor that part. Any
replacementpart that is equivalentin performanceand durabilitymay
be usedin the performanceof anymaintenanceor repairs.The owneris
responsibleforthe performanceof all requiredmaintenance,as definedin
the SearsOperatingand MaintenanceInstructions.
6. ConsequentialCoverage
Coveragehereundershallextend to thefailure of any engine components
caused bythe failureof any WarrantedPartstill underwarranty.

Look For Relevant Emissions Durability Period and
Air index information On Your Engine Emissions Label
Engines that are certified to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Tier 2 Emission Standards must
display information regarding the Emissions Durability Period and the Air Index. Sears, Roebuck and Co., U.S.A.
makes this information available to the consumer on our emission labels.
The Emissions Durability Period describes the number of hours of actual running time for which the engine is
certified to be emissions compliant, assuming proper maintenance in accordance with the Operating & Mainte-
nance Instructions. The following categories are used:
Moderate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 125 hours of actual engine running time.
Intermediate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 250 hours of actual engine running time.
Extended: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 500 hours of actual engine running time.
For example, a typical walk-behind lawn mower is used 20 to 25 hours per year. Therefore, the Emissions
Durability Period of an engine with an intermediate rating would equate to 10 to 12 years.
The Air Index is a calculated number describing the relative level of emissions for a specific engine family. The
lower the Air Index, the cleaner the engine. This information is displayed in graphical form on the emissions label.
After July 1,2000, Look For Emissions Compliance Period
On Engine Emissions Compliance Label
After July 1, 2000 certain Sears, Roebuck and Co., U.S.A. engines will be certified to meet the United States
Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Phase 2 emission standards. For Phase 2 certified engines, the Emis-
sions Compliance Period referred to on the Emissions Compliance label indicates the number of operating hours
for which the engine has been shown to meet Federal emission requirements.
For engines less than 225 cc displacement, Category C = 125 hours, B = 250 hours and A = 500 hours.
For engines of 225 cc or more, Category C = 250 hours, B = 500 hours and A = 1000 hours.
This is a generic representation of the emission label typically found on a certified engine.

1. Retire el material de empaque que pudiera estar entre las manijas
superior e inferior.
a. Tire haciaarriba y hacia atra.sia manija superior como se
muestra en la Figura 1.Asegurese de que la manija inferior este
asentada firmemente en los soportes de montaje de ia manija.
Asimismo, no prense los cables mientras levanta la manija.
b. Apriete las periiias estrelia que sujetan la manija superior a ia
manija inferior. Asegurese de que cada perno del carro este
apropiadamente asentado en la manija.
2. Inserte el bul6n de carro que est,. en la bolsa del manual,en el
orificio superior en el soporte de montaje de ia manija. Sujete con
una tuerca pla.sticade mariposa, que tambien se incluye en la bolsa

2. Para acoplar el colector de cesped:
a. Levante la puerta de descarga posterior. Yea la Figura 6.
b. Coloque ei colector de cesped en ia variila de pivote. Suelte ia
puerta de descargade modo que descanse sobre el colector
de cesped.
Para quitar al receptor de hierba, levante la puerta de descarga trasera
en el cortac_sped. Receptor de hierba de levantamiento y, lejos de
la vara de pivote. El reverso de liberaci6n descarga la puerta para
permitir que ello cerrara la apertura trasera del cortac_sped.
Nunca opere ia podadora a menos que los ganchos dei colector de
cesped esten firmemente asentados en las ranuras de los montajes de
la mensula de la manija y la puerta de descarga posterior descanse
If rmemente contra a parte superor de co ector de cesped.
AJUSTES
Ajuste de la altura de corte
Una placade ajuste y una palanca en cada rueda proporcionan el ajuste
de la altura de corte. Vea la Figura 7.
1. Presione la palanca hacia la rueda.
2. Mu_vala a cualquier de las posiciones para la altura de corte
deseado.
3. Libere la palanca hacia la cubierta de la podadora.
IMPORTANTE: Todas las ruedas deben set colocadas en la misma
posici6n relativa. Cuandoel terreno es agreste o irregular cambie la

CONTROL DE LA CUCHILLA
El control de la cuchilla est,. unido a la manija superior. Presione la
manija de control de la cuchilla contra la manija superior paraoperar la
unidad. Suelte la manija de control de la cuchilla para detenerel motor y
la cuchilla.
El control de ia cuchiiia es un dispositivo de seguridad. Nunca intente
anular su funcionamiento.
PALANCA DE AJUSTE DE LA ALTURA DE
CORTE
Estas paiancas esta.nubicadas una en cada rueda y se usan paracorregir
la altura de corte. Las cuatro paiancas tienen que estar en la misma
posici6n relativa para asegurar un corte uniforme.
COLECTOR DE CESPED
El colector de cesped, Iocalizado en el reverso del cortacesped, es usado
para empaquetar los recortes de peri6dico de cesped para ia disposici6n
en otto sitio. Una vez que ei bolso es lieno, tiene que ser quitado del
cortacesped y vaciado antes ma.slejos segar.

LLENADO DE GASOLINA Y ACEITE
Aceite (se envia una botella junto con la unidad)
Primer uso
1. Saque la varilla del nivel de aceite (G).
2. Con la cortadora de cesped ubicada en suelo nivelado, vierta el
aceite bntamente pot dentro del tubo de Ilenadode aceite del motor
(H) hasta la marca de limite alto en la varilla medidora del nivel de
aceite (J). Vea la Figura 9.
3. Vuelva a colocar la varilla de Ilenadode aceite y ajQstela.
Usos posteriores
Use aceite para motor de 4 tiempos que cumpla o sobrepase los
requisitos para la clasificaci6n de servicio APi SK SG, SH, SJ o
equivalente.
Compruebe siempre ia etiqueta de servicio API en el recipiente dei aceite
para asegurarseque incluye las letras SK SG, SH, SJ o equivalente.
Temperaturasai aire libre de determinar la viscosidad dei aceite correcto
para el motor. Use la tabla para seleccionar la mejor viscosidad para el
rango de temperatura ai aire libre se espera.

4. Si el nivel de aceite esta.cerca o pot debajo de la marcade limite
bajo de la varilla medidora del nivel de aceite, quite la tapa del
dep6sito de aceite/varilia medidoradei nivei de aceite y iBnelo con
el aceite recomendado hasta la marca de limite superior. No Ilene de

5. Vuelva a instalar la tapa/varilla medidora del nivel de aceite.
Gasolina
No utilice gasolinas no aprobados, tales como E85. No mezcle el aceite
en ia gasolina o modificar el motor parafuncionar con combustibles
aiternativos. Esto dafiara,los componentesdel motor y anular la
garantia del motor.
De combustible debe cumplir estos requisitos:
,, Limpia, fresca, la gasolina sin piomo.
• Un minimo de 87 octane/87 AKI (91 RON).

Nunca encienda el motor en espacios cerrados o en una zona con poca
ventilaci6n. El escape del motor contiene mon6xido de carbono, un gas
inodoro y ietai. Mantenga ias manos, los pies, el cabello y la ropa suelta
alejados de las partes m6viles del motor y de la cortadora.

PARA ENCENDER EL MOTOR
1. Comenzando ei motor pot primera vez, empuje el cebador cinco
veces. Para todas las futuras ventajas, empuje el cebador tres
veces. Espere aproximadamente dos segundos entre cada presi6n.
Vea la Figura 10. No cebe el motor caiiente para reiniciarlo luego de
una detenci6n breve.
2. Col6quese detras de la podadora, apriete la manija de control de la
cuchilla y sostengala contra la manija superior.
3. Sostenga firmemente las dos manijas juntas, tome la manija del
arrancador de retroceso y tire de ia cuerda para sacarla con un
movimiento ra.pidoy continuo. Vea la Figura 10. Mantenga firme la
manija del arrancador, deje que la cuerda regrese lentamente al
arrancador.Repitahasta que el motor este en marcha. Deje que la
cuerda se enrosque lentamente de regreso.
NOTA:Si las inundacionesdel motor,espereunosminutospara
reiniciar,peronoprimos.
PARA DETENER EL MOTOR
1. Suelte la manija de control de la cuchilla para detener el motor y la
cuchilla.
Espere a que ia cuchilla se haya detenido pot completo antes de hacer
cualquier trabajo en la cortadora o de retirar el colector de cesped.
USO DE LA CORTADORA DE CO'SPED
Aseguresedeque el cesped est&librede piedras,palos, cablesu otros
objetos que pudiesendafiar la cortadorao el motor.Dichos objetos pueden
set arrojadosaccidentalmentepot la cortadora en cualquier direcci6ny
_rovocarlesionespersonalesgravesai operadory a otras personas.
AI operar una cortadora de cesped es posible que objetos extrafios sean
arrojados a los ojos, Io cual puede dafiarlos gravemente. Utilice siempre
galas de seguridad durante la operaci6n de la cortadora de cesped o
mientras la ajusta o repara.
USO COMO ABONADORA
Para abonar el cesped, quite el colector de cesped de la ma.quina.La
puerta de descarga posterior debera,estar cerrada. Para un abono
eficiente, nocorte cesped hQmedo.Si el cesped ha crecido ma.sde 10,2
cm. (4 pulg.) no se recomienda el uso de la podadora como abonadora.
En ese caso, use el colector de cesped para embolsar los recortes.

USO DEL COLECTOR DE ClaSPED
Puedeutilizar el colector de cesped para recoger dichos recortes mientras
opera la podadora.
1. Acople el colector de cesped siguiendo ias instrucciones en ia
secci6n de Montaje. Los recortesde cesped se recolectara.n
automa.ticamenteen la bolsa a medida que pase ia podadora.Opere
la podadora hasta que ia bolsa de recolecci6n este Ilena.
2. Detengaei motor pot completo soltando la manija de control de la
cuchilla. Compruebe que la unidad se hayadetenido pot completo.
3. Para deshacerse de los recortes de cesped ievante ia puerta de
descarga y tire de la bolsade recolecci6n hacia arriba, aparta.ndola
de la podadora.
Si golpea un objeto extrafio, detenga ei motor. Retire el cable de ia
bujia, inspeccione detenidamentela cortadora para vet que no tenga
dafios, y repare el dafio antes de volver a encender y operar. Elexceso
de vibraci6n de la cortadora durante la operaci6n es una indicaci6n de
dafio. Se debe inspeccionar y reparar la unidad Io antes posible.

Comprobar el aceite del motor
Comprobar el nivel de aceite antes de cada operaci6n. Aseg_resede que
el nivei de aceite se mantiene.
1. Revise el aceite con ei motor parade y nivelado.
2. Quite ia tapa del dep6sito de aceite/varilla medidora del nivel de
aceite y limpiela.
3. Coloque y ajuste la varilla indicadora. Luego quitela para revisarel
nivel de aceite.
4. Si el nivel de aceite esta.cerca o pot debajo de la marcade limite
bajo de la varilla medidora del nivel de aceite, quite la tapa del
dep6sito de aceite/varilia medidoradei nivei de aceite y ilenelo con
el aceite recomendado hasta la marca de limite superior. No Ilene de
ma.s.
5. Vueiva a instaiar la tapa/variiia medidora dei nivel de aceite.

4. Con ei motoren una posici6n nivelada, liene hasta ia marca de
limite alto en la varilla medidora del nivel de aceite con el aceite
recomendado.
Ponerenrnarchael motorcon un nivelde aceitebajo puedecausar
da_osen el motor.
5. Vueiva a instaiar bien la tapa/varilla medidora del nivel de aceite.
Limpie el motor
Diariamenteo antes de cada use, limpie el cesped, la grasa o los
residuos acumuladosdel motor. Mantenga limpios el varillaje, los
resortes y los controles. Mantenga ei a.reaque rodea al silenciador y
detra.sdei mismo iibre de cualquier residue combustible.
El mantenimientodel motor en condiciones limpias permite el
movimiento de aire alrededor del mismo.
Las partes dei motor se deben mantener limpias para reducir
el riesgo de sobrecalentamiento y combusti6nde los residues
acumulados.
No use agua para limpiar ias piezas dei motor. Elagua puede contaminar
el sistema de combustible. Use un cepillo o un trapo seco.

LUBRICACION -_
Control de la cuchilla
Lubriquecon aceite ligero los puntos de pivote del control de la cuchilla al
menos una vez cada estaci6n. Estecontrole debe funcionar libremente en
ambas direcciones. Vea la Figura 14.
Ruedas
Lubriqueias ruedas pot io menos una vez por temporada con aceite ligero
o aceite para motor. Sin embargo, si las ruedas se quitan pot cuaiquier
raz6n, debe lubricar ia superficie del brazo giratorio y la superficie interna
de la rueda con aceite ligero. Vea ia Figura 14.
Puerta trasera de descarga
Lubriqueel resorte de torsi6n y el punto de pivote de ia puerta trasera de
descarga peri6dicamente con aceite ligero para prevenir la oxidaci6n. Vea
la Figura 14.
LIMPIEZA DE LA PLATAFORMA
Debelimpiar la parte inferior de la plataforma de la cortadora de cesped
una vez una temporada para prevenirla acumulaci6n de recortes de
cesped u otros desechos. Siga los pasosque aparecen debajo para
reaiizar esta tarea.
1. Desconecteel cable de la bujia. Opere el motor hasta que se
detenga por la falta de combustible.
2. incline la cortadora de cesped de modo que quede apoyada sobre
al alojamiento, mantenga el silenciador de costado hacia abajo.
Refierasea la figura 13.Sostenga firmementela cortadora.

Nunca incline ia cortadora de cesped mb.sde 900en ninguna direcci6n
y nodeje la unidad inclinada. Se puede filtrar aceite dentro de la parte
superior del motor y causar problemas de arranque.
3. Raspe y iimpie ia parte inferior de la plataforma medianteel uso de
una herramienta adecuada. No la rode con agua.
IMPORTANTE: No utilice una lavadora a presi6n o manguera de jardin
para limpiar su unidad. Pueden producir daSosa los rodamientos o al
motor. El uso de aguaacortarb,la vida _til de la mb.quinay reducirb,su
capacidad de servicio.
4. Vuelva a colocar la cortadora de cesped sobre sus ruedas en el
suelo.
CAIVlBIO DE LA ALETA TRASERA
Para cambiar la aleta trasera, proceda de la siguiente manera:
1. Levantela puerta trasera, y la tapa de prensa en a ambos lados para
quitar del agujero.Vea la Figura 15.
2. Quite la tapa dei agujero de enfrente y sustituya por la nueva tapa en
la orden de enfrentey la manera del retiro.

CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLA "f _"
Cuandosaque la cuchilla de corte para afilarla o reemplazarla, protejase
las manos usando un par de guantes para trabajo rudo o un trapo gruesc
para sostener la cuchilla.
Inspeccione peri6dicamente el adaptador de la cuchiiia en busca de
rajaduras, especialmente cuando golpee un objeto extra_o. Realice los
reemplazos que resulten necesarios. Siga los pasos que aparecen debajo
para realizar el mantenimiento de la cuchilla.
1. Desconecte el capuch6n del cable de la bujia. Gire la cortadora
de cesped sobre ei costado y compruebe que el filtro de aire y el
carburador queden mirando haciaarriba.
2. Saque el perno y el soporte de campana de ia cuchiiia que sostienen
la cuchilla y el adaptador de la misma al cigQe_aidel motor. Vea la
Figura 16.
3. Saque la cuchilla y el adaptador del cigQe_ai.
NOTA: Quitando estos articulos, la arandela tambien pueden iiberarse
de el cigQe_al.Este seguro para hacer la nota de laorientaci6n de este
arficulo para nuevasesi6n.
4. Saque ia cuchilia del adaptador para comprobar el equilibrio.
Balancee la cuchilla sobre un destornilladorde eje redondo para
inspeccionarla. Saque metal dei iado pesado hasta que quede bien
equilibrada. Cuando afile la cuchilla, siga el a.ngulooriginal de la
muela como guia. Afile cada horde de corte pot igual para mantener
el balance de la cuchilla.
Si ia cuchiiia esta.desequiiibradagenerara,vibraciones excesivas cuandoI
rote a aitas velocidades. Puede producir da_os a ia cortadora de cesped I
[y se puede romper, causando asi es ones persona es. j
5. Lubrique el cigQehaidei motor y ia superficie interna del adaptador
de ia cuchilla con aceite iigero. Desliceel adaptador de la cuchilla
sobre el cigQe_aldel motor. Instale ia cuchiiia en ei adaptador
con el lado marcado "Bottom" (inferior) (o con el numero de parte)
hacia ei piso cuando ia cortadora de cesped esta.en posici6n
de funcionamiento.AsegQreseque la cuchilla quede aiineaday
asentada en ias bridas del adaptador.
6. Coloque el soporte de campana de la cuchilla en ia misma. Aiinee
las muescas del soporte de campana de la cuchilla con los orificios
peque_osde la cuchilla.
7. Vuelva a colocar el pemo hexagonal y ajQstelosegQnlos siguientes
valores de torsi6n: 450 Ib-pulg como minimo, 600 Ib-pulg como
ma.ximo.
Para garantizar ia operaci6n segura de la cortadora de cesped, revise
periddicamente el perno de la cuchilla para determinar si esta.bien
ajustado.

Nunca almacene la cortadora de cesped concombustible en el tanque
en un espacio cerrado o en a.reascon poca ventilaci6n, donde los
gases dei combustible puedan alcanzar el fuego, chispas o una luz

PREPARACI6N DE LA CORTADORA DE
CO'SPED
Limpie y iubrique la cortadora como se describe en las instrucciones
de lubricaci6n.
• No utilice una lavadora a presi6n ni una manguera de jardfn para
limpiar su unidad.
Cubra la cuchilla de la cortadora con grasa para chasis para impedir
la oxidaci6n.
• Refierasea la PREPARACIONDEL MOTOR para instrucciones de
almacenaje de motor correctas.
• Almacene la unidad en una zona limpia y seca. No la almacene
cerca de materiales corrosivos como pot ejemplo fertilizantes.
Cuando almacene cuaiquier tipo de equipo motorizadoen un gaip6n
de dep6sito met_.iicoo con poca ventilaci6n, tenga especial cuidado
de realizarle un tratamiento antioxidanteal equipo. Use aceite ligero o
silicona para recubrir ei equipo, especialmente los cables y partes m6viles
de su cortadora antes de aimacenarla.

disposicionesde la politica degarantiaparamotoresSears.La cobertura
de lagarantia excluir_defectosen piezascon garantia queno scan partes
originalesSears,o abuso,negligenciao mantenimientoincorrecto,tal y
como se estableceen lapolitica de garantia paramotoresSears.Searsno
es responsablede lasfallas en piezascon garantia provocadaspor el uso
de partesa_adidas,que no scan originaleso quese hayan modificado.
5. Mantenimiento
Cualquierpartecon garantiaque no esteprogramadapara serreem-
plazadacomomantenimientorequerido,o que s61odebainspeccionarse
regularmentealefecto de"inspeccioneo reemplacesegL]nsea necesario",
estar_garantizadacontradefectosduranteel periodode la garantia.Todas
las piezasgarantizadasqueesten programadaspara su reemplazopara

Los motores cuyo cumpiimiento con los estAndares de emisi6n Tier 2 de la Comisi6n de Recursos Ambientales de California (CARB)
est6 certificado deben exhibir la informaci6n relacionada con el perJodo de duraci6n de las emisiones y la clasificaci6n de aire. Sears,
Roebuck and Co., de los Estados Unidos ponen esta informaci6n a disposici6n deJ consumidor en nuestras etiquetas de emisiones.
El Periodo de Duraci6n de las Emisiones describe el nQmero de horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento para el cual se certifica que
el motor cumple con las reglas de emisi6n, descontando el mantenimiento adecuado deJ mismo segQn las instrucciones de oper-
aci6n y mantenimiento. Se utilizan las siguientes categorias:
Moderado:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 125 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento deJ motor.
Inmediato:Se certifica que el motor cumple con las reglas de emisi6n durante 250 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento deJ motor.
Extendido:Se certifica que el motor cumple con las reglas de emisi6n durante 500 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento deJ motor.
Por ejemplo, una cortadora de c6sped tJpica que se empuja desde atrAs se usa entre 20 y 25 horas por afio. Por Io tanto, el Periodo
de Duraci6n de Emisiones de un motor con una clasificaci6n intermedia seria equivalente a entre 10 y 12 afios.
Laclasificaci6n de aJre es un nQmero calculado para describir eJnivel reiativo de emisiones para un grupo de motores en particular.
Cuanto menor sea Jaclasificaci6n de aire, mayor es JaJimpieza deJ motor. La informaci6n se presenta de forma gr&fica en Jaetiqueta
de emisiones.
Despu_s del 1 de julio de 2000, busque el periodo de cumplimiento de las reglas de
emisiones en la etiqueta de cumplimiento de las reglas de emisiones del motor
Despu_s deJ 1 de julio de 2000 se certificar_, que determinados motores Sears, Roebuck and Co., de los Estados Unidos
cumpien con los estAndares de emisiones de la fase 2 de la Agencia de Protecci6n Ambiental de los Estados Unidos (USE-
PA). Para los motores certificados para la etapa 2, el periodo de cumpiimiento con las reglas de emisiones al cual se hace
referencia en la etiqueta de cumpiimiento con las reglas de emisiones indica el nQmero de horas de funcionamiento para el
cuaJ se ha demostrado que el motor cumpie con los requerimientos federales de emisi6n.
Para los motores con desplazamiento inferior a 225 cc, Categoria C = 125 horas, B = 250 horas y A = 500 horas.
Para los motores con desplazamiento de 225 cc o mAs, Categoria C = 250 horas, B = 500 horas y A = 1000 horas.
El despiazamiento de los motores de la serie modelo 150112 es 249 cc.
