#1 Will this heater turn on automatically if the temperature drops below the thermostat setting?

Yes, the thermostat that is included with this unit will operate the electronic ignition automatically

#2 My heater's flame goes out in about 30 seconds after it turns on but the fan stays on, happen every time I turn it on?

You would want to make sure there is no restriction on the gas flow. You may also, want to check with the manufacturer for troubleshooting.
