INSTALLING BATTERIES

  • Insert two AAA batteries (not included) into the remote. Make sure that the + and – symbols match the + and – symbols in the battery compartment.

Note: To set up your remote, follow the setup steps below, in order, and STOP as soon as your remote works correctly.

PROGRAMMING YOUR REMOTE

There are three ways to set up your remote:

  • Use “Setup method A: Popular brands” for pre-set popular brands.
  • Use “Setup method B: Direct code entry” if your device’s direct code is in the code list starting on page 12.
  • Use “Setup method C: Code search” to perform a code search for your device.

Note: This remote comes pre-set for Insignia TVs and DVDs and Apple TV cable/satellite/streaming set-top boxes.

Setup method A: Popular brands

1 Turn on your target device.

2 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

3 Press TELEVISION or CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING, or BLURAY/ DVD to select the mode you want to set up. The LED stays lit.

4 Press either 0 (for cable/satellite/ streaming), 1 (for TVs), or 2 (for Blu-ray/DVD) to select the device type you want to set up.

5 Find your device type and brand in the table below, then press and hold its number until your device turns off. Setup for that device is complete.

Note: If your brand does not appear in the table below, use “Setup method B: Direct code entry” or “Setup method C: Code search.

Setup method B: Direct code entry

1 Turn on your target device.

2 Press TELEVISION or CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING, or BLURAY/ DVD to select the mode you want to set up.

3 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

4 Enter the first 5-digit code for your brand from the code list (see TV CODE LIST on page 12).

5 Press the (power) button to test your device. Release the key when your device turns off . Setup for that device is complete.

6 If the device does not turn off, repeat steps 2-5 using the next code for your brand or use “Setup method C: Code search”.

Setup method C: Code search

1 Turn on your target device.

2 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

3 Press TELEVISION or CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING, or BLURAY/ DVD to select the mode you want to set up. The LED stays lit.

4 Press either 0 (for cable/satellite/ streaming), 1 (for TVs), or 2 (for Blu-ray/DVD) to select the device type you want to set up.

5 While pointing the remote toward your target device, press and hold OK until your device turns off . Release the key when your device turns off . Setup for that device is complete.

LEARNING FUNCTIONS FROM ANOTHER REMOTE

You can learn any function from your original (working) remote control.

Creating a learned function

1 Make sure that your remote is programmed to the device you want to control. See “Programming your remote.”

2 Place your original and new remotes on a table with their IR sensors 1-2" apart.

3 With your new remote, press and hold SETUP until the LED blinks twice.

4 With your new remote, press 9, 7, 5.

5 With your new remote, press TELEVISION or CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING, or BLURAY/DVD for the device you want to learn a function from.

6 With your new remote, press the button you want to add a function to. The LED blinks continuously. Note: Functions cannot be assigned to the setup key or the three device keys.

7 With your original remote, press the button with the function you want to teach. The LED blinks twice. Note: If the LED displays a long blink, the function wasn’t learned. Start from step 5 to try again.

8 Repeat steps 5-7 for each button you want to learn.

9 After you have added all the functions, press and hold SETUP on your new remote until its LED blinks twice.

Deleting a learned function

1 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

2 Press TELEVISION or CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING, or BLURAY/ DVD for the device you want to delete a function from.

3 Press 9, 7, 6.

4 Press the button with the learned function twice. The LED blinks twice and the button resets to its original function.

USING YOUR REMOTE

1 Press TELEVISION or CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING, or BLURAY/ DVD for the device you want to control.

2 Press the buttons applicable to that type of device.

Watch TV mode

Note: To control a soundbar or other audio device with your remote, see Adding an audio device.

While watching TV in CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING mode, you can:

  • Use your remote’s volume and input buttons to control the TV. The rest of the buttons will control the device you’ve added to CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING mode.
  • Press (power) once to turn your set-top box on or off.

OR

  • Press and hold (power) for two seconds to turn both your set-top box and your TV on or off .

To turn off watch TV mode:

1 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

2 Press CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING twice. The LED blinks four times.

Watch TV mode is turned off and your remote will not control your TV.

To turn on watch TV mode after turning it off:

1 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

2 Press CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING twice. The LED blinks twice.

Watch TV mode is turned back on and your remote will control your TV again.

ADDING AN AUDIO DEVICE

If you listen to sound through a connected audio device (for example, a soundbar or audio/video receiver), you can program your remote to control it when in CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING mode:

  • Use “Method A: Popular audio devices” if your audio device is listed as a popular brand, or
  • Use “Method B: Audio device code entry” to perform a code search for your device.

Method A: Popular audio devices

1 Turn on your audio device and play something through its speakers.

2 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

3 Press MUTE.

4 Find your audio device’s brand and corresponding number in the table on the next page.

5 While aiming the remote at your audio device, press and hold your audio device’s number (from step 4) until the sound mutes.

Setup is complete and your remote controls your audio device’s volume while using a cable, satellite, or streaming device.

Method B: Audio device code entry

1 Turn on your audio device and play something through its speakers.

2 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

3 Press MUTE.

4 Find your audio device’s brand in the code list (see AUDIO CODE LIST on page 57), then use your remote to enter the first 4-digit code for your brand from the code list.

5 Press MUTE to test your audio device. If the sound mutes, setup is complete and your remote controls your audio device’s volume while using a cable, satellite, or streaming device.

6 If the sound doesn’t mute, repeat steps 2-5 using the next code for your brand.

LOCKING AND UNLOCKING VOLUME CONTROLS

By default, the VOL (volume up/down) and (mute) buttons control your TV. You can lock this setting so the remote always controls your cable/satellite/ streaming device, or unlock it so each device controls its own volume.

Locking volume controls to one device

1 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

2 Press 9, 9, 3.

3 Press TELEVISION or CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING, or BLURAY/ DVD to lock volume controls to that device. The LED blinks twice.

Unlocking volume controls

1 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

2 Press 9, 9, 3, then press VOL (volume up).

LOCKING AND UNLOCKING CHANNEL CONTROLS

Locking channel controls to one device

1 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

2 Press 9, 7, 3, then press CH +.

3 Press TELEVISION or CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING, or BLURAY/ DVD to lock channel controls to that device. The LED blinks twice.

Unlocking channel controls

1 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

2 Press 9, 7, 3, then press CH -.

RESETTING REMOTE TO FACTORY DEFAULTS

1 Press and hold SETUP until your remote’s LED blinks twice.

2 Press 9, 7, 7.

TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM SOLUTION
The LED does not turn on when a key is pressed. • Replace the batteries.
The LED turns on, but the remote does not control my device.

• Make sure that your remote is programmed to your device.

• Make sure that your remote is set to the correct mode (TELEVISION, BLURAY/DVD, or CABLE / SATELLITE / STREAMING).

I have tried all of the codes for my device’s brand, but none of them work. • Use Setup Method C: Code Search.
After programming, some of my remote’s functions don’t work • If you still have your original (working) remote, you can teach your new remote its functions. See Learning functions from another remote.
