Video Configuration: Movie Format (MXF/MP4), Resolution
(4K/HD), Frame Rate and Bit Rate
Before you record, select the movie format (MXF or MP4), resolution (4K or HD), frame rate and bit rate that best
match your project’s needs. Available frame rate and bit rate options will depend on the movie format and
resolution selected.
Selecting the Movie Format (MXF or MP4) and Resolution (Recording in 4K or HD)
You can easily select both the movie format and resolution (frame size) your clips will be recorded with.
Movie format: For your HD clips, you can choose a movie format of either MXF or MP4. Clips recorded in MXF
format have superb picture quality during playback while those recorded in MP4 format are versatile and can
easily be played back on smartphones and tablets, or uploaded to the Web.
Resolution: This camcorder allows you to record clips in 4K or HD. The resolution of 4K clips is 3840x2160 while
that of HD clips is 1920x1080. Note that 4K clips are recorded in MXF format and saved to the CFast card; HD
clips can be either movie format and saved to the SD card.
1Touch [ 4K], [ HD] or [¸ HD] on the bottom left of the
screen.
The icon will show the currently selected option.
Alternatively, you can select [3 Recording Setup] > [1] >
[Movie Format].
2 Select the desired option and then touch [L] or [X].
NOTES
When recorded, MP4 clips are automatically assigned file names, which
consist of the prefix “MVI_” and a four-digit number that identifies the
MP4 clip. You can select how the clips are numbered (A 138).
The following types of MP4 clips will be recorded as multiple files (but will
be played back without interruption with the camcorder). You can use the
software Data Import Utility to join clips split into multiple files (A 117).
- Clips exceeding 4 GB
- Clips recorded at 50.00P exceeding 30 minutes
- Scenes recorded with a frame rate other than 50.00P exceeding 1
hour
A single MP4 recording operation can go on continuously for about 12 hours. Then the camcorder will stop
automatically.
