Philips S5583/10 Questions and Answers

#1 Which cleaning system is my Philips Shaver compatible with?

Philips Shavers can be cleaned using some accessories like the SmartClean system and the Quick Clean pod. However, it is important to verify if your shavers are compatible with these systems.
Quick Clean Pod
Only the shavers that come with a Quick Clean Pod in the box are compatible with this system. To quickly verify if your shaver is compatible with the Quick Clean Pod, turn it upside down and press the on/off button. If you see that the cleaning reminder (3 dots) turns on, this means you can use the Quick Clean Pod to clean this shaver.
SmartClean System
The Philips SmartClean System can be used to charge, clean and lubricate your Philips Shaver. The SmartClean Plus (model number 5.2) also comes with a drying programme.

#2 How do I clean my Philips Shaver?

To find out how to clean your Philips Shaver, follow our instructions below based on the shaver you have. Before cleaning your shaver, always make sure it is waterproof by looking for a tap or bath symbol printed on the back.

We advise cleaning your shaver after every shave for optimal performance. Depending on your shaver model, you may see a notification symbol flashing on your shaver as a reminder to clean it.
For exact cleaning instructions of your shaver model, refer to the user manual.
Shavers with one-touch open system
Some of the latest Philips Shaver models have a one-touch open system (see image).

To clean these shavers, follow the steps below.
Switch on the shaver.
Rinse the shaving unit under a warm tap.
Switch off the shaver. Press the release button to open the shaving unit.
Rinse the hair chamber under a warm tap.
Rinse the shaving head holder under a warm tap.
Carefully shake off excess water and let the shaving head holder air-dry completely.
Close the shaving unit.

#3 Is it better to dry or wet shave with my Philips Shaver?

Both dry and wet shaving have their own advantages. It comes down to your personal shaving preference. Some points to consider are as follows:
Dry shaving can be done almost anywhere, even on the go, and there is hardly any cleaning involved.
Wet shaving feels refreshing and is often beneficial for sensitive skin, as it reduces friction and irritation caused by a blade.

#4 When should I replace the cartridge of my Philips cleaning station?

When to replace the cleaning cartridge
We recommend replacing the cleaning cartridge of your Philips Shavers Cleaning system when the cleaning station indicates or when you are no longer satisfied with the cleaning performance of your cleaning system.
For the SmartClean system, you will see an arrow symbol flashing orange on the device. In the Quick Clean Pod a small window shaped icon will appear (see image).
If you use the Cleaning system weekly, then the cleaning fluid in a cartridge should be enough for three months. If you are a more regular user, then the cartridge will need to be replaced much earlier, possibly within a month.
The Philips Cleaning cartridge comes with a special cleaning fluid designed for this device. Please do not try to refill the cartridge with a different kind of cleaning solution. This can damage your device.
