Using Zoom

[Step Zoom]
You can set the zoom operation to allow easy visualization of the angle of view (picture
angle) for the focal length of a regular fixed focal length lens (as with a 35 mm film
camera). When using the Step Zoom, you can operate the zoom ratio as easily as
changing the camera lens.
Preparation:
Set [Step Zoom] for the [Rec] menu to [ON].
For the setting procedures of the menu. (→25)
Select the focal length
Every time you rotate the zoom lever, zooming
will stop at the following focal lengths (as with
a 35 mm film camera).
Capture a
wider area
(wide-angle)
Enlarge
the subject
(telephoto)
Current zoom position
(Focal lengths the same as those of a 35 mm film
camera)
[Step Zoom] stop position
24 mm, 28 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, 70 mm, and 90 mm
In addition to the above focal lengths, the zoom will stop at the following positions
when a setting other than Optical Zoom is set.
135 mm, 200 mm, 300 mm, 400 mm, 500 mm, 600 mm, the focal length at max. Tele,
and so on.
The focal length values are for reference only.
The focal length will change in the following cases:
When the aspect ratio is 1:1
When [Burst Shooting] is set to [ ]
When [Handheld Night Shot] is set in Scene mode
[Step Zoom] cannot be used in the following cases:
[Intelligent Auto] Mode
When recording motion pictures
The focal length is displayed during playback for pictures recorded using the [Step
Zoom].
