#1 Does it stand up by itself?

No it does not, You can lean it against something but that is not recommended as per instructions. It has a very good stand which is movable. or can be mounted to a wall with supplied hardware. Best option is to lay it flat on the ground during interruptions in cleaning.

#2 Any tricks on cleaning the canister? Fur stays inside it.

I clean out the inside of the canister by sweeping around the edges with a blunt knife. A chopstick also works.

#3 How does this perform on pet hair?

Very good. We have a cat and a dog, and picks up hair very well.

#4 Is this good for carpeted stairs? This would be the primary use for this vacuum.

Yes. I have 2 sets of carpeted stairs, and it is by far easier than any other vacuum to use on the stairs. You can use with the handle very short or longer as needed.

#5 Do you put the filter through the dishwasher? Or just rinse with water by hand then air dry?

I just rinse them by hand using cold water per the instructions. I think hot water, soap, and the dishwasher drying element would likely damage them.

#6 Does it have a light?

No light, but it a a great vacuum!

#7 Is it quieter than Dyson? Dyson is so noisy, we use ear plugs.

Not sure about the Dyson, but I think it’s pretty quiet when I use it in normal mode. Gets a little louder in power mode.
