If you have already installed at least one HEOS device, please skip to the section “Adding more HEOS devices”.
System requirements
Before you begin installing your first HEOS device, please make sure you understand and meet a few basic requirements.
o
Network requirements
Wireless Router - In order to use your HEOS music system, you must have a working wireless (Wi-Fi) or ethernet network in your home. Even when
connected to an Ethernet network, a Wi-Fi connection to the router is required to control the system using the HEOS Control app. If you do not have a
wireless network, please contact your local Denon dealer or electronics retailer to assist you with purchasing and installing a wireless network in your
home.
High Speed Internet Connection - HEOS accesses the Internet to stream music to your home from many popular online music services. HEOS is
also designed to provide you with software updates, which are delivered via your home Internet connection. DSL, Cable, and Fiber services will
provide the best experience and reliability. You may experience performance issues with slower Internet connections like satellite based services.

Placing your HEOS speaker
You can place your HEOS speaker anywhere you want to enjoy great sounding music. Please follow these simple guidelines when determining where to
place your speaker…
0
The HEOS speaker must be within range of your wireless network.
0
Place the speaker across the room from where you will be listening, as close to ear level as possible.
0
The HEOS speaker is not waterproof. Do not place it near any water source and do not leave it outside in the rain or snow.
o
Placing your DHT-S516H
The soundbar of the DHT-S516H should be place as close as
possible to the television screen. It should be centered left-to-right with
the screen, and ideally no more than a few inches above or below.
The most common location is below the screen. Sometimes this
location can be difficult, because the base of the TV gets in the way.
The DHT-S516H has riser feet that raise the soundbar off the shelf, for
a more stable and attractive installation when used with this type of
television.
.
n
How to attach the riser feet
Attach the supplied riser feet if you need to raise the Soundbar over
your TV stand base.
.

NOTE
0
Depending on your TV model or installation location, the remote control receiver
on the TV may be hidden by the soundbar, preventing the remote control from
being used because the remote control signals cannot reach the TV. In this case,
connect the supplied IR Blaster. Attach the tip of the IR Blaster near the TV remote
control signal receiver and check that the remote control can be used to control the
TV.
.
You may also place DHT-S516H soundbar on a shelf, or furniture, above
or below the screen. It should be centered with the screen, and ideally no
more than a few inches above or below. The system will usually sound
best when the front of the soundbar is close to, or flush with, the front edge
of the furniture or shelf on which it rests. This reduces unwanted sound
reflections.
Place the wireless subwoofer anywhere in the room. For the best sound,
place the subwoofer near a wall or corner, within 6 meters of the
soundbar, and on the same side of the room as the soundbar. The
wireless subwoofer range is 8 meters. Wireless subwoofer can be
positioned vertically or horizontally. Attach the supplied non-slip stickers to
the subwoofer.
.
NOTE
0
Don’t put the subwoofer where curtains or furniture will block the sound. The port
on the back of the subwoofer cabinet should be unobstructed.

o
Wall-Mounting
The DHT-S516H soundbar can be wall-mounted using the integrated
keyhole mounts. A mounting template can be found in the product
carton. Using a level, position and tape the template to the wall in the
desired location. Install hardware* using the template as a guide and
then remove the mounting template from the wall. Connect the audio
and power cables prior to mounting the soundbar on the wall.
z
Consult a person knowledgeable about your wall type to recommend suitable
hardware for hanging the speaker.
.
Wall Mounting Keyholes
NOTE
0
To ensure safety, request a contractor perform the mounting work when mounting
onto a wall.
0
In order to use the unit safely, do not place items on or hang items from the unit.
0
Be sure to fix connection cables to the wall to ensure that cannot be pulled or
tripped over causing the unit to fall. Check that the unit is mounted safely after the
mounting work is complete.
0
Also, periodically check the safety of the unit and whether there is a possibility that
the unit may fall.
0
Denon cannot accept any responsibility for damage, injury or accidents caused by
problems with the mounting location or mounting method.

Setting up your first DHT-S516H
Once you have placed your DHT-S516H in your listening room and have downloaded the HEOS app, you are ready to configure your DHT-S516H for
music playback. This involves following a few simple steps to get the speaker connected to your existing home network:
Caution
0
DO NOT connect the Ethernet cable if you are connecting your DHT-S516H to a wireless network. If you are connecting the speaker to a wired network,
use an Ethernet cable to connect the speaker to your network or router.
1
Make sure your mobile device is connected to your
wireless network (the same network you want your
speakers connected to).
You can check this in the Settings - Wi-Fi menu of your iOS or
Android device.
NOTE
0
If your wireless network is secure, make sure you know the password to join
your network.
2
Make sure you have the included
Audio/Setup cable handy.
3
Launch the HEOS app on your
mobile device.
4
Tap the “Setup Now” button at the top of the screen.
5
Follow the instructions to add the DHT-S516H to your
wireless network and to select an input on your DHT-
S516H.
The Wi-Fi settings from your mobile device will be copied to the
DHT-S516H via the audio cable.
NOTE
0
If you have any problems connecting your HEOS device, jump to the
Troubleshooting section. (v p. 62)

Adding more HEOS devices
The HEOS wireless multi-room sound system is a true multiroom audio system that automatically synchronizes audio playback between multiple HEOS
devices so that the audio coming from different rooms is perfectly in sync and always sounds amazing! You can easily add up to 32 HEOS devices to your
HEOS system.
Adding wired speakers
Just connect the HEOS devices to your home network using an Ethernet cable and the HEOS device will appear on your HEOS app as a new room in the
Rooms screen.
At your convenience, you can assign a name to the HEOS device to indicate which room you have it placed in.
0
Use only a shielded STP or ScTP LAN cable which is easily available at electronics stores (CAT-5 or greater recommended).
0
Do not connect a Network Connector directly to the LAN port/Ethernet connector on your computer.
Adding wireless HEOS devices
You can add additional wireless HEOS devices to your HEOS system by selecting “Add Device” from the HEOS app’s settings menu and follow the
instructions:

Listening to TV Audio
Once you have connected your DHT-S516H to your TV, and setup the TV
input you are ready to enjoy sound from your TV. (v p. 53)
1
Tap the “Music” tab.
2
Tap “TV”.
o
Adjusting the dialog sound
The Dialog enhancer highlights center-recorded sounds such as
movie dialog, television announcers, or musical soloists; it is valuable
for everyday television viewing.
o
Listening at night
The night mode improves low-volume listening by subtly lifting softer
sounds, and lowering very loud ones. While you may use the night
mode whenever you like, for maximum dynamic realism from
television programing, movies, or music, leave the night mode turned
off.
o
Adjusting sound mode
You can select the sound mode either “MOVIE” or “MUSIC”. The
movie mode deploys DHT-S516H's maximum processing for the
“biggest” possible sound on action films or other large-scaled content.
The music mode widens the “soundstage” somewhat for a more
enveloping, involving sound.
o
Checking the audio status
You can check the input and signal format by pressing the O at the
left top area.

With the HEOS account you just have to enter your music services
login names and passwords one time. This allows you to easily and
quickly use multiple controller apps on different devices. You just log
into your HEOS account on any device and you will have access to all
of your associated music services, play history and custom playlists,
even if you are at a friend’s house listening to music on their HEOS
system.

Using the now playing queue
HEOS uses a Now Playing “Queue” to line up music that you want to listen to. Music can be selected from any of your local or online music sources (as
long as they are not preprogrammed “radio” or “station” type streams). This feature works similarly to how a jukebox works. You select something to play
(a song, album, playlist or even your entire music collection) and add it to the “Queue”. When you select something to play you will be asked how you want
to queue up your music.

Basic troubleshooting
No sound
Solution Refer to Page
0
Is DHT-S516H’s volume turned up? (Don’t laugh; we do this one ourselves all the time.)
0
Is DHT-S516H muted (if so, the front LED is slowly blinking.).
0
Is the audio source a volume-controlled television or cable/satellite box output? If so, you must turn up the volume of the
television or cable/satellite box to send adequate signal-level to DHT-S516H. (For this reason it is best to choose fixed-level
outputs where possible; some televisions have separate physical outputs, other employ on-screen menu settings to manage
this.)
0
Check connections: remember that DHT-S516H auto-prioritizes multiple incoming signals, selecting HDMI, optical-digital,
coaxial-digital, and analog-mini plug, in that order. Confirm that the television is routing audio to the appropriate output; there
may be TV-menu settings to manage this.
No subwoofer sound, sound interrupted, or noise occurring

Distorted sound from the DHT-S516H
Solution Refer to Page
0
If the signal source is a volume-controlled output, turn it down a couple of steps from maximum.
0
Check the signal source to be sure the distortion is not originating there.
0
If DHT-S516H’s volume is set to its maximum, turn it down a few steps.
Trouble teaching DHT-S516H remote control commands
Solution Refer to Page
Remember that while DHT-S516H can learn almost all IR (infrared) remote commands, there remain a few rare code formats that
cannot be taught (much like some engineers we know).
Television speakers keep getting turned back up
Solution Refer to Page
Disable the television’s speakers (usually a setup-menu option, but a rear-panel switch on some televisions). If this is not possible,
the problem is likely that the television responds to press-and-hold (ramping) volume commands more quickly than the DHT-
S516H; in this rare case use DHT-S516H’s front-panel or supplied remote to turn the DHT-S516H’s volume up.

My speaker won’t connect to my network using the audio cable
Solution Refer to Page
0
Make sure your mobile device is connected to your wireless network before setting up your speaker. 20
0
Alternatively, you can connect your speaker to your network router using the included Ethernet cable. Once connected via
Ethernet, the HEOS App should recognize the speaker and you can manually move it to your wireless network using
Settings/My Devices/Device_Name/Advanced/Network Settings.
21
Music cuts out or delays sometimes
Solution Refer to Page
0
Make sure your Internet connection is operating correctly. If you are sharing your network with other users or devices, they may
be using most of your bandwidth (especially if they are streaming video).
7
0
Make sure your speakers are within range of your wireless network. 58
0
Make sure your speakers are not located near other electronic devices that could interfere with it’s wireless connectivity (like
microwave ovens, cordless phones, TVs, etc…).

I hear a delay when using the external input with my TV
Solution Refer to Page
0
If you are connecting the External input with your cable or satellite box for enjoying TV audio through multiple HEOS devices,
you may hear a delay between when you see someone speak and when you hear the audio. This is because the HEOS system
must buffer the audio before it sends it out to the HEOS devices so that it arrives at all devices at the same time.
0
You can avoid this delay by listening only to the device which is directly connected to the set top box.
Connecting to a network using an iOS device
Solution Refer to Page
This HEOS device supports Apple’s “WAC (Wireless Accessory Configuration)” setup mode. WAC setup mode allows you to
connect your HEOS device to your network without requiring you to type in the network name and password.
1. The LED on the rear of the HEOS device will slowly blink amber to indicate that WAC setup mode is active. If the rear LED is not blinking amber,
press and hold VOLUME DOWN and MUTE buttons for 3 seconds until you see the LED blinking amber.
2. Go to the Wi-Fi menu under Settings on your iOS device.
3. Select “Denon DHT-S516H” under “SET UP NEW AIRPLAY SPEAKER...” at the bottom of the list.
4. Select the network you want your HEOS device to connect to and select “Next”.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete setup.
6. When the connection is complete, the LED on the front of the HEOS device will turn solid blue.
HEOS will stay in WAC setup mode for 15 minutes. If the device is not setup within 15 minutes, it will revert back to its previous
network connection. Press the Mute button if you want to cancel WAC setup mode.

Connecting to a WPS network
Solution Refer to Page
If your wireless router support WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup™) your HEOS wireless speaker can optionally connect to your
network using the “Push Button” method by following these steps:
Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ is trademarks of Wi-Fi Alliance.
1. Press the WPS button on your router.
2. Within 2 minutes, rapidly press the Connect button 3 times (within 2 seconds of each press).
3. The LED on the front of the speaker will flash green for several seconds as it connects to your WPS router.
4. When the connection is complete, the LED on the front of the speaker will turn solid blue.
7
Resetting your speaker
Solution Refer to Page
Resetting your speaker will clear out the wireless network info, EQ, and name but retain it’s current software. You will have to use
Settings - Add Speaker to reconnect the speaker to your home network before it can be used.
To reset your speaker, press and hold the Connect and Bluetooth buttons located on the back of the HEOS speaker for 5 seconds
until the front LED begins to flash amber.
DHT-S516H takes long time to turn on
Solution Refer to Page
In case the DHT-S516H as in the DEEP standby mode, it may takes around 40 second to turn on.

sqlite 2003.5.7
SQLite Copyright
SQLite is in the
Public Domain
All of the code and documentation in SQLite has been dedicated to the
public domain by the authors. All code authors, and representatives of
the companies they work for, have signed affidavits dedicating their
contributions to the public domain and originals of those signed
affidavits are stored in a firesafe at the main offices of Hwaci. Anyone
is free to copy, modify, publish, use, compile, sell, or distribute the
original SQLite code, either in source code form or as a compiled
binary, for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial, and by any
means.
The previous paragraph applies to the deliverable code and
documentation in SQLite - those parts of the SQLite library that you
actually bundle and ship with a larger application. Some scripts used
as part of the build process (for example the "configure" scripts
generated by autoconf) might fall under other open-source licenses.
Nothing from these build scripts ever reaches the final deliverable
SQLite library, however, and so the licenses associated with those
scripts should not be a factor in assessing your rights to copy and use
the SQLite library.
All of the deliverable code in SQLite has been written from scratch. No
code has been taken from other projects or from the open internet.
Every line of code can be traced back to its original author, and all of
those authors have public domain dedications on file. So the SQLite
code base is clean and is uncontaminated with licensed code from
other projects.
