The "blade" is plastic instead of metal like others on the market. When the pole is fully extended it will be near impossible for you (unless you have the arm strength of the Hulk) to able to put enough downward force on the plastic blade to damage your roof.

Depends on how wet the snow is. I have used this in all snow conditions and am very pleased with it. Do not assume that it will clear in one pass if the snow is wet (heavy). Use common sense for the conditions and you will be happy with this device. In any case the height of the blade makes it impossible to remove more than 6 to 8 inches at a time.
