GRIND SELECTOR CONTROL
The Grind Selector Control has 3 settings from coarse to ne. The setting
that you choose will inuence the strength of coee.
• Coarse ( ): For percolators/French press
• Medium ( ): For lter coee makers
• Fine ( ): For espresso, latte macchiato, cappuccino and Turkish coee
Coee Beans
Experimenting with the Grinder will enable you to get exactly the grind
you prefer for your coee. A ne grind exposes more surface to the water
and therefore a more rapid rate of extraction of avour. A coarser grind,
which exposes little surface, is appropriate for the longer brewing cycle
of percolators. Check your coee maker instructions for the type of grind
that is best.
For the freshest, most robut cup of coee, grind only enough coee for
the pot you are making. If you are making a large pot, you may need
to grind in two batches. Coee beans will keep up to 2 months in the
freezer (in an airtight container) and can be ground while still frozen. Fresh
beans will yield the best avour and aroma.
Tips for making espresso:
a) The coee must be nely ground but not too ne. The correct grind
should look gritty like salt or sand.
b) If the grind is too ne, the water will not ow through the coee when
brewing.
c) If the grind is too coarse, the water will ow through too fast.
Herbs and Spices
Herbs and spices take on a fresh, more avourful taste when freshly
ground. Dried herbs can be combined and ground for a few seconds
giving them move avour. Peoppercorns, when freshly ground, taste
totally dierent from canned pre-ground pepper. Spices such as allspice,
cardamom, celery seed, mustard seed & coriander seed grind very well.
Not Recommended
The Grinder will grind most dry or brittle substances. It WILL NOT grind
anything which is moist, gummy or extremely hard (chocolate, nuts, whole
nutmet, candied ginger, etc. ). It will not make pastes of any kind from
seeds such as sunower or sesame.
5

Grinding cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg is not advised as the oils and
hardness can cause the plastic lid to pitt, discolor or crack. Grains such
as corn, wheat, rice barley and rye may also cause damage to the Lid.
Chopping, mincing or pureeing of soft foods is not recommended.
HELPFUL HINTS
1. DO NOT operate this appliance for longer than 30 seconds at a time
as this could cause overheating. Allow to cool for at least a few
minutes after each use. Allow the appliance to cool down for 30
minutes after 3 cycles of continuous use.
2. DO NOT force when the blade stalls. Foreign substance might be
wedged in the blade. Turn the appliance o, UNPLUG fom the wall
outlet and follow the instruction in the Care and Cleaning section.
3. For best avour, store coee beans in an airtight container.
4. Grind coee beans immediately before brewing.
5. The strongness of the coee depends on the grind neness and the
amount of coee grounds. The ner the coee grinds and the more
ground coee that is used, the stronger the taste.
6. Coee avour and strength is a personal preference. Vary the type
of coee beans, the amount of coee and the neness of the grind to
nd the avour you prefer.
