1.1. ELECTRICAL SAFETY

 WARNING! It is the user’s responsibility to check the following:

Inspect power supply leads, plugs and all electrical connections for wear and damage.

Ensure that the insulation on all cables and on the appliance is safe before connecting it to the power supply.

9  Followtheseinstructionsandthosepublishedbythebatteryandvehiclemanufacturer,andthemakerofanyequipmentyouintend

 touseinthevicinityofthebattery.Remembertoreviewwarningmarksonallproductsandonengines.

1.3. PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS

9  Ensurethereisanotherpersonwithinhearingrangeofyourvoiceandcloseenoughtocometoyouraid,shouldaproblemarise

when working near a lead-acid battery.

9  Wearsafetyeyeprotectionandprotectiveclothing.Avoidtouchingeyeswhileworkingnearbattery.

9  Havefreshwaterandsoapnearbyincasebatteryacidcontactsskin,clothingoreyes.

9  Washimmediatelywithsoapandwaterifbatteryacidcontactsskinorclothing.Ifacidenterseye,usheyeimmediatelywithcool,

clean running water for at least 15 minutes and seek immediate medical attention.

9  Removepersonalmetallicitemssuchasrings,bracelets,necklacesandwatches.Alead-acidbatterycanproduceashort-circuit

 currentwhichishighenoughtoweldaringortheliketometal,whichwouldcausesevereburns.

9  Ensurehands,clothing(especiallybelts)areclearoffanbladesandothermovingorhotpartsofengine,removetiesandcontain

long hair.

8 DO NOTsmokeorallowasparkorameinthevicinityofbatteryorengine.

1.4. CHARGING SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

9  Familiariseyourselfwiththeapplicationandlimitationsofthechargeraswellasthepotentialhazards.

 Alsorefertothevehiclemanufacturer’shandbook.IFINANYDOUBTCONSULTAQUALIFIEDELECTRICIAN.

9 Ensure the charger is in good order and condition before use. If in any doubt DO NOT use the unit, contact your Sealey stockist.

9  Thebatteryterminalnotconnectedtothechassishastobeconnectedrst.Theotherconnectionistobemadetothechassis, 

 remotefromthebatteryandfuelline.Thebatterychargeristhentobeconnectedtothesupplymains.

9  AfterCharging,disconnectthebatterychargerfromthesupplymains.Thenremovethechassisconnectionandthenthebattery 

connection.

9  Usethestarter/chargerintheuprightpositiononlyandensureitisplacedonastablesurfacewhichwilladequatelysupportits 

weight.

9 Ensure the charger is disconnected from the mains supply before attaching/detaching the power clamps to/from the battery.

9 Keep tools and other items away from the engine and ensure you can see the battery and working parts of engine clearly.

9  Duringcharging,thebatterymustbeplacedinawell-ventilatedarea.

9  Ensuretheoutputofthechargeristhesamevoltageasthebattery.

9  Ifbatteryhascapstoaccessthebatteryuid,removethecapsandchecktheuidlevelbeforeconnectingthepowerclamps.

9  Ifnecessarytop-upthebatterywithdistilledwaterbyreferringtothebatterymanufacturer’sinstructions(Applythepersonalsafety

 precautionsdescribedinpart1.3).

9  Ifthechargerreceivesasharpknockorblowtheunitmustbecheckedbyaqualiedserviceagentbeforeusing.

9 If the battery terminals are corroded or dirty clean them before attaching the power clamps.

9 Keep children and unauthorised persons away from the working area.

9 CAUTION :Onlyallowchildrenatleast8yearsoldtousethebatterycharger.Givesu󰀩cientinstructionsothatthechildisabletouse

the battery charger in a safe way and explain that it is not a toy and must not be played with.

9 Instruct the child not to try and recharge non-rechargeable batteries because of the danger of eruption.

9 Examine the battery charger regularly for damage, especially the cord, plug and enclosure. If the battery charger is damaged, it must

not be used until it has been repaired.

8 DO NOT try to charge a non-rechargeable battery.

8 DO NOTcrossconnectpowerleadsfromchargertobattery.Ensurepositive(+/RED)istopositiveandnegative(-/BLACK)isto 

 negative.

8 DO NOT pull the cables or clamps from the battery terminals.

8 DO NOT use the charger outdoors, or in damp, or wet locations and DO NOToperatewithinthevicinityofammableliquidsorgases.

DO NOTusechargerinsidevehicleorinsideenginecompartment.

9  Ensurethereise󰀨ectiveventilationtopreventabuild-upofexplosivegases,andDO NOTcover/obstructchargerventilationlouvres.

8 DO NOT use the charger for a task for which it is not designed.

9 When not in use, store the charger carefully in a safe, dry, childproof location.

9  Anextensioncordshouldnotbeusedunlessabsolutelynecessary.Useofanimproperextensioncordcouldresultinariskofre

and electric shock. If an extension cord must be used, make sure:

 •Thatthepinsontheplugoftheextensioncordarethesamenumber,sizeandshapeasthoseoftheplugonthecharger.

 •Thattheextensioncordisproperlywiredandingoodelectricalcondition.

 •ThatthewiresizeislargeenoughfortheACampereratingofthechargerasspecied.

9  Toreducetheriskofelectricshock,unplugthechargerfromtheoutletbeforeattemptinganymaintenanceorcleaning.Simply 

 turningo󰀨thecontrolswillnotreducethisrisk.

9  Amarine(boat)batterymustberemovedandchargedonshore.Tochargeiton-boardrequiresequipmentspeciallydesignedfor

marine use.

batteries.Safetyfeaturesincludeover-charge,over-heat,shortcircuitandreversepolarityprotection.Temperaturesensorallowsaccurate

chargingofbatteryevenwhencold.Compactdesignwithmountingholesforpermanenttting.Oncefullycharged,batterymaybeleft

5.1. CONNECTING THE CLAMP CABLES TO THE CHARGER.

5.1.1.  Unscrewtheclampingscrewonthepositiveandnegativeterminals(g.1.3g.1.4).

5.1.2. Locatecableeyeletsovertappedholesandreplacescrewstosecurelyholdcablesinplace.

5.1.3. CONNECTING THE CHARGER TO THE BATTERY.

5.4.1. Pressthe“BatteryType”buttontoselectbatterytype(g.2).NOTE:Onlyonebatteryatatimecanbecharged.

5.4.2. StopchargingatanytimebyswitchingtheOn/O󰀨switchtoo󰀨toreturntostandbymode.

5.4.3. Whendisconnectingthecharger,pleasedisconnectACcordrst,removeclipfromvehiclechassis,andthenremoveclipfrom 

battery terminal. DO NOT charge the battery while the engine is operating.

5.5. MEMORY FUNCTION.

6. MAINTENANCE

6.1. Withonlyminimalmaintenance,thisBatteryChargerwilldeliveryearsofdependableservice.

6.2. Followthesesimplestepstomaintainthechargerinoptimumcondition:

6.2.1. Aftereachuse,cleanthebatterychargerclamps-besuretoremoveanybatteryuidthatwillcausecorrosionofthecopper 

clamps.

6.2.2. Clean the outside case of the charger with a soft cloth and, if necessary, mild soap solution.

6.2.3. Keepthechargercordslooselycoiledduringstoragetopreventdamagetothecords.

 DO NOTusethechargerifcordsorclampshavebeendamagedinanyway.Ifthepowersupplycordisdamaged,itmustbe 

 replacedbythemanufacturer,itsserviceagentorqualiedpersoninordertoavoidahazard.
