Precautions for Use (Direct Print Plus)
The below limitations apply when using Direct Print Plus. Please make sure to read these precautions
beforehand.

* You cannot specify pages to print.
* In Output size, you can only select Actual size.
• Printable document size is the same as the document size that can be used with the printer driver.•
* Document sizes for raster images (tiff or jpeg) are calculated as follows:
◦ "Page size (inch)" = "Pixel size (pixel)" / "Resolution (dpi)"◦
Raster images with no resolution information will be calculated as 300 dpi resolution.
• When printing via the print server, set Allow printing when offline to On in Special Settings under•
Preferences.
• With data that contains images that reaches the document size limit, if you select Actual size in•
Output size on the main screen, all four sides of the image that are outside of the printable range will
not be printed.

Features of Direct Print Plus
• You can print PDF documents and drawings, JPEG and TIFF images, and HP-GL/2 drawings without•
opening the corresponding applications.
• You can preview the print image and be warned in advance of errors by retrieving information from the•
connected printer.
• You can print files without displaying the Direct Print Plus screen by creating a Shortcut print icon, and•
dropping a file onto the icon.
• You can print multiple files at once, enabling you to efficiently print large volumes of drawings and•
images.
• You can save frequently used print settings. You can also print with saved settings.•
• Printing history is saved for a specified period of time. You can also select jobs to print from the saved•
print history.
Important
• File formats that can be previewed and printed are as follows: JPEG, TIFF, PDF (excluding password-•
protected PDFs), and HP-GL/2.
• In HP-GL/2 previews, the area where the data exists is displayed with borders and diagonal lines.•

Start Direct Print Plus
Perform the following to start Direct Print Plus. The following screenshot is from Windows 11.
From the Taskbar (Start button), select All apps > Canon Utilities > Direct Print Plus
Direct Print Plus starts.

Basic Operations (Home Screen)
The Direct Print Plus home screen can be operated from the left side to the right side to match the workflow,
allowing you to print while checking the layout. You can also select the features you need for operation from
the menu bar.
A: If you drag and drop to add the files you want to print, thumbnails will be displayed.
B: Check the print preview of the files you selected.
C: Set the media type and image quality.
D: Check the printer status.

Create Shortcut Print Icons
If you drop printing data, you can create icons that can be used for printing.
Follow the procedure below to create Shortcut print icons.

Call Favorites and Print
You can save the current settings of Direct Print Plus, or replicate saved settings for the current settings.
Save Frequently Used Settings to Favorites

Configure the required settings in Print settings from the home screen

• The setting items that can be saved are Printer/Print settings and paper settings.
• Files that are in TIFF/JPEG/PDF formats, and HP-GL/2 format files have different saved items for
frequently used settings. Therefore, if you are printing in a file format that is different from when you
saved it, you cannot replicate frequently used settings.
• Depending on the printer you are using, the item differs from when you saved it, so the settings
content cannot be replicated.

Call Favorites and Print

Print from Print History
You can browse through your print history and print the same file with the same settings.

Print Files in Cloud Storage
You can print files saved in cloud storage.

When logging in to the cloud service, you need to confirm the terms of use and privacy policy of each
service, and agree to them.

Enter your user ID and password, and follow the instructions on the screen.

Check Print Progress
If you run out of paper or experience other issues, you can check remotely.

Print in Reverse Order
If you select the paper output position with the printed side facing up, the first page will be placed at the
bottom and the order of the pages will be reversed. If you select Reverse order, sorting pages will be

By setting up accounting for print jobs, you can aggregate print jobs for each project or organization for
easier management.

• If you enter a value while Use a fixed value is checked, the value will be set at the time of
printing, and cannot be changed on the print settings screen. If the value is fixed in the printer
driver, that value will be prioritized.

Set a Hot Folder
This feature monitors Windows folders (hot folders) on local and network computers, and when image data
or documents are added, Direct Print Plus will start printing them. By setting up a folder on a network
computer as a hot folder, you can print from a computer that does not have Direct Print Plus installed by
simply adding files to the folder. This is a guide on how to add and manage hot folders.
How to add or edit hot folders
Here is how you add or edit hot folders.

Manage your hot folders
Here is how you manage your hot folders.
1. Select Manage Hot Folders from Tools in the menu bar1.
The Manage Hot Folders dialog box will open.
When a file is added to a folder where Monitoring status is set to Monitoring, the file will be printed
automatically. If the folder is set to Paused, the file will not be printed.
If you want to edit the folder information, open the menu by clicking, and then select _Edit to start
editing. You can also change the monitoring status.

Limitations When Printing PDF Files
These are limitations that apply when using Direct Print Plus to print PDF files that contain the below image
processing.
Caution is needed when using Direct Print Plus to print PDF files created with Adobe Illustrator and other
applications for graphical purposes.
• Overprinting•
The overlaying parts of images will not be printed as intended.
• PDF with security settings•
Cannot be printed.
• 16-bit data or JPEG 2000 image data with transparency settings•
Images cannot be printed.
• PostScript data•
Images cannot be printed.
• Halftone•
Cannot be printed.
• Data with comments added•
Images cannot be printed if there is no data for displaying comments.

If you set Use MediaBox area as PDF page size to On, PDF files will be printed with the trimmed
areas included.

Troubleshooting
Shortcut Prints do not get printed in order
Your files may not print in the order you selected due to OS specifications.
If you want to print files in order, drop the files one by one and print.
I want to continue using the Shortcut print icon even after buying a new
printer
If the new printer you purchase is the same model, you can continue using the Shortcut print icon as long
as you don't change the friendly name you are using.
I want to confirm the results of Shortcut Prints
Shortcut Print results are exported to report files.
Report files are created in "\Canon\imagePROGRAF Direct Print Plus\Shortcut Print\Reports" of
Documents or My Documents.
The report file name is "{report output date and time (yyyymmddhhmmss)}-{milliseconds}_{print document
file name.extension}.log".
The top, bottom, left, and right edges of the images are not being
printed
Output size on the home screen is set to Actual size, Half size, or 25% - 250%. Change it to a setting
other than these.
