The 7103 can display temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit. The temperature units are
shipped from the factory set to Celsius. To change to Fahrenheit or back to Celsius
there are two ways:
Press “SET” and “UP” simultaneously. The display units are changed.1.
or
Press the “SET” key three times from the temperature display to show1.
Un = C
Press the “UP” or “DOWN” key to change units.2.
Press “SET” to store changes.3.
Switching to 230V Operation8.2
To use 230 V, plug in the appropriate power cord into the unit. The “~” sign should
always show in the PEM fuse window.
Note: Use 5 amp fuses for both 115 V and 230 V.
8.3 Bath Fluid
Many uids work with the 7103 bath. Choosing a uid requires consideration of many
important characteristics of the uid. Among these are temperature range, viscosity,
specic heat, thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, electri cal resistivity, uid
lifetime, safety, and cost. Hart Scientic recommends using Silicone 200.05 Dow Oil.
If the viscosity becomes to great, the stirrer may not function.
Temperature Range8.3.1
One of the most important characteristics to consider is the temperature range of the
uid. Few uids work well throughout the complete temperature range of the bath.
The temperature at which the bath is operated must always be within the safe and
useful temperature range of the uid. The lower tempera ture range of the uid is
determined by the freeze point of the uid or the tem perature at which the viscosity
becomes too great. The upper temperature is usually limited by vaporization,
ammability, or chemical breakdown of the uid. Vaporization of the uid at higher
temperatures may affect temperature stability because of cool condensed uid dripping
into the bath from the lid.
