Onceconnected,theAxisproductisaccessibleonyourlocalnetwork(LAN).ToaccesstheproductfromtheInternetyoumust

congureyournetworkroutertoallowincomingdatatrafctotheproduct.Todothis,enabletheNAT-traversalfeature,which

TogainaccesstotheAxisproduct,youmustsetthepasswordforthedefaultadministratoruserroot.ThisisdoneintheCongure

RootPassworddialog,whichappearswhentheproductisaccessedforthersttime.

Topreventnetworkeavesdropping,therootpasswordcanbesetviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,whichrequiresanHTTPS

certicate.HTTPS(HypertextTransferProtocoloverSSL)isaprotocolusedtoencrypttrafcbetweenwebbrowsersandservers.The

HTTPScerticateensuresencryptedexchangeofinformation.SeeHTTPS,onpage40.

Thedefaultadministratorusernamerootispermanentandcannotbedeleted.Ifthepasswordforrootislost,theproductmustbe

TosetthepasswordviaastandardHTTPconnection,enteritdirectlyintherstdialog.

TheAxisproductprovidesseveralvideostreamformats.Yourrequirementsandthepropertiesofyournetworkwilldeterminethe

typeyouuse.

TheLiveViewpageintheproductprovidesaccesstoH.264andMotionJPEGvideostreams,andtothelistofavailablestreamproles.

Otherapplicationsandclientscanaccessvideostreamsdirectly,withoutgoingviatheLiveViewpage.

HowtoStreamH.264

ThevideocompressionstandardH.264makesgooduseofbandwidth,andcanprovidehighqualityvideostreamsatlessthan1Mbit/s.

Decidingwhichcombinationofprotocolsandmethodstousedependsonyourviewingrequirements,andonthepropertiesof

AnH.264videostreamconsistsofdifferenttypesofframessuchasI-framesandP-frames.AnI-frameisacompleteimagewhereas

P-framesonlycontainthedifferencesfrompreviousframes.

TheGOVlengthisthenumberofframesbetweentwoconsecutiveI-frames.IncreasingtheGOVlengthmaysaveconsiderablyon

bandwidthrequirementsinsomecases,butmayalsohaveanadverseaffectonimagequality.

TheAxisproductsupportstwoH.264proles.TheMainproleprovideshighercompressionthantheBaselineprolewiththesame

videoquality,butrequiresmoreprocessingpowertodecode.

ThebitratecanbesetasVariableBitRate(VBR)orConstantBitRate(CBR).VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtotheimage

complexity,usingupmorebandwidthforincreasedactivityintheimage,andlessforlowerimageactivity.CBRallowsyoutoseta

xedTargetbitratethatconsumesapredictableamountofbandwidth.Asthebitratewouldusuallyneedtoincreaseforincreased

imageactivity,butinthiscasecannot,framerateandimagequalityareaffectednegatively.Topartlycompensateforthis,itis

possibletoprioritizeeitherframerateorimagequality.Notsettingaprioritymeansthatframerateandimagequalityareequally

affected.Youmustsaveyoursettingsbeforetheycantakeeffect.

Sometimestheimagesizeislargeduetolowlightorcomplexscenery.Adjustingthemaximumframesizehelpstocontrolthe

bandwidthandstorageusedbytheMotionJPEGvideostreaminthesesituations.SettingtheframesizetotheDefaultsetting

providesconsistentlygoodimagequalityattheexpenseofincreasedbandwidthandstorageusageinlowlight.Limitingtheframe

sizeoptimizesbandwidthandstorageusage,butmaygivepoorimagequality.Topreventincreasedbandwidthandstorageusage,

themaximumframesizeshouldbesettoanoptimalvalue.

TheimageBrightnesscanbeadjustedintherange0–100,whereahighervalueproducesabrighterimage.

IncreasingtheSharpnesscanincreasebandwidthusage.Asharperimagemightincreaseimagenoiseespeciallyinlowlight

conditions.Alowersettingreducesimagenoise,butthewholeimagewillappearlesssharp.

TheContrastchangestherelativedifferencebetweenlightanddark.Itcanbeadjustedusingtheslidebar.

WhiteBalance

Whitebalanceisusedtomakecolorsintheimageappearthesameregardlessofthecolortemperatureofthelightsource.TheAxis

productcanbesettoautomaticallyidentifythelightsourceandcompensateforitscolor.Alternatively,selectthetypeoflight

Exposurepriority-WhenMotionisprioritized,motionblurintheimageisminimized.Thiscanbeusefulforrecognitionofmoving

objectssuchaspeopleandvehicles.However,prioritizingmotionmaycauseanincreaseinimagenoise,especiallyinlowlight

situations.WhenLownoiseisprioritized,imagenoiseisminimized.Thelesizeisreduced,whichcanbeusefulifstoragespaceor

Day/Night

TheIRcutlterpreventsinfrared(IR)lightfromreachingtheimagesensor.Inpoorlightingconditions,forexampleatnight,or

whenusinganIRlamp,settheIRcutltertoOff.Thisincreaseslightsensitivityandallowstheproductto“see”infraredlight.The

imageisshowninblackandwhitewhentheIRcutlterisoff.

Firmwareissoftwarethatdeterminesthefunctionalityofnetworkdevices.Oneofyourrstactionswhentroubleshootingaproblem

shouldbetocheckthecurrentrmwareversion.Thelatestversionmaycontainacorrectionthatxesyourparticularproblem.The

currentrmwareversionintheAxisproductisdisplayedinthepageSetup>BasicSetupandinSetup>About.

UpgradingtheFirmware

WhenyouupgradetheproductwiththelatestrmwarefromAxiswebsite,theproductreceivesthelatestfunctionalityavailable.

Alwaysreadtheupgradeinstructionsandreleasenotesavailablewitheachnewrelease,beforeupgradingthermware.

Toupgrade,followtheseinstructions:
