Cleaning
Blowingdust and grit out of the motor housing using compressedair is a nec-
essary regular maintenance procedure. Dust and grit containing metal parti-
cles often accumulateon interior surfaces and could createanelectrical shock
hazardif notfrequently cleanedout. ALWAYSWEARSAFETYGLASSES.
CAUTION:Never usesolvents or other harsh chemicals for cleaningthe non-
metallic partsof thetool. Useclean,dry ragonly.
Lubrication
B&D tools are properly lubricated at the factory and are readyfor use.Tools
should berelubricated regularly everysixty daysto six months, depending on
usage. (Tools used constantly on production or heavy-duty jobs and tools
exposed to heat may require more frequent lubrication.) This lubrication
should only be attempted by trained powertool repairpersons, such asthose
at B&D service centersor in other qualified serviceorganizations.
MotorBrushes
Besuretool is turned off and disconnected beforeinspecting brushes.Carbon
brushes should be regularly inspected for wear.To inspect brushes, unscrew
the plastic brush inspection caps (located in the sides of the motor housing)
andthe spring and brush assembliesmay bewithdrawn from thetool.
Keep brushes clean and sliding freely in their guides. Carbon brushes have
varying symbols stamped intothem, and if the brush isworn down to the line
closestto the spring, they must be replaced.New brush assembliesare avail-
ableat B&Dservice centers.

CAUTION:Strands of wire cup brushes may break and fly off while in use.
Usersand others in thearea should wear adequateeye,faceand body protec-
tion. Use only wire cup brushes that are rated at or greater than the RPM
shown on thetool's nameplate.
WARNING:To reducethe risk of injury, alwaysuse proper guards when grind-
ingand wear eyeprotection.
CAUTION:The use of any non-recommended accessory may be hazardous.
