MAINTENANCE
Turn each adjustment nut 1/2 turn clockwise, then try
again to push the mower.
Continue turning each nut 1/2 turn and testing until the
mower no longer moves when pushed.
After final adjustment, test the brakes by driving the mower
at normal speed on flat ground to be sure the mower stops
quickly when the brake pedal is depressed.
LEVELING THE CUTTING DECK
See Figures 21 - 24.
If your lawn appears unevenly cut after using the mower, the
cutting deck may need adjusting.
NOTE: Always check side-to-side alignment and adjust as
needed before measuring and adjusting front to back.
Before beginning:
Move the mower to a level surface. Make sure to set the
parking brake and blade engage knob is down.
Stop the motor and remove the start key.
Raise the cutting deck to the highest postion.
Check that tires are inflated to the recommended PSI.
Refer to Tire Maintenance section.
To make side-to-side adjustment:
Position the blades so that the ends point toward the
sides of the mower. See figure 21.
On the outside edge of each blade, measure the distance
from the bottom edge of the side of the blade to the
ground. If the distance between the two sides is greater
than 1/8 in., a side-to-side adjustment is necessary.
Lower the cutting deck to access the adjustment nuts.
Tighten the adjustment nut on the low side until the left
to right measurement is within 1/8 inch.
Proceed to front-to-back adjustment.
To make front-to-back adjustment:
NOTE: Always level the deck side to side before making a
front to back adjustment.
Raise the cutting deck to the highest postion.
Position the blade nearest the side discharge chute so
that the ends now point toward the front and back of the
mower. See figure 24.
Measure to confirm the distance from the front tip to
ground is 4-1/2 in. +/- 1/8 in.
Measure to confirm the distance from the rear tip to
ground is 0 - 3/4 in. higher than the front for the 42 in.
cutting deck or 0 - 1/2in. higher than the front for the 46
in. cutting deck.
If front-to-back adjustment is needed, turn the front
adjustment nut clockwise to raise or counterclockwise
to lower the front of the cutting deck. One and a half
turns of the adjustment nut will change the deck height
approximately 1/8 in.
