IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using your Kenmore Smooth-Edge Electric Can Opener, basic safety precautions
should always be followed, including the following:
1. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE
2. Before using the appliance for the rst time, remove any packaging material, promo-
tional labels, and stickers. Safely dispose of plastic bags or small pieces that could
present a suocation or choking hazard to young children.
3. Before using, check that the voltage of the wall outlet corresponds to the one shown
on the rating plate. Do not attempt to use the appliance with a voltage converter.
4. POLARIZED PLUG: This appliance is equipped with a polarized plug (one blade is
wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will t in a polarized
outlet only one way. If the plug does not t fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still
does not t, contact a qualied electrician. DO NOT attempt to alter the plug in any way
to make it t.
5. Do not attempt to operate the appliance if there is damage to the cord or plug, after
it has malfunctioned or been dropped or damaged in any way, or if it is not operating
properly. Contact Koolatron Customer Assistance for information on repair and warran-
ty options.
6. Always unplug the appliance from the power source when not in use, before assem-
bling or disassembling, and before cleaning. To unplug, grasp plug and pull it from the
electrical outlet; never unplug the appliance by pulling on the power cord.
7. To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse the can opener, power cord, or
electrical plug in any liquid. If the appliance falls into or accidentally becomes immersed
in water, immediately unplug it from the wall outlet. DO NOT REACH INTO THE WATER.
8. Do not let the power cord hang over the edge of the table or counter or contact hot
surfaces, such as the stovetop or cooking pot.
9. This appliance is recommended for indoor household use only and not for commer-
cial or industrial use. Do not use outdoors. Using this appliance for anything other than
its intended use will void your warranty.

10. This appliance is not intended for use by persons, including children, with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, without
supervision and instruction by a person responsible for their safety.
11. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
12. Do not leave the appliance unattended while in use.
13. Avoid contact with moving parts.
14. To protect against personal injury, use extreme caution when cleaning the cutting
blade.
15. Do not attempt to use the can opener if the blade is bent or damaged in any way.
16. Do not open pressurized (aerosol-type) cans.
17. Do not open cans of ammable liquids such as lighter uid.
18. Do not use the can opener to open rimless cans, cans with angled corners or cans
with a diameter less than 2.1 in (5.5 cm) or height greater than 7 in (17.7 cm).
19. Do not use the can opener to open cans weighing more than 50 oz (1420 g). When
opening a can weighing 30-50 oz (850-1420g), it is necessary to hold down the can
opener to prevent it from overturning.
20. Do not attempt to operate the appliance by any method other than those described
in this manual. Aftermarket attachments or accessories not recommended by Kenmore
will void your warranty and may cause re, electrical shock, or injury.
