Band/Drum Brake
_ WARNING: DO NOT operate this Fun-Kart if
the brake system wig not properly stop the Fun-
Kart. See OPERATION-BRAKE TEST.
_i_ WARNING: DO NOT perform maintenance of
brake rotor, pads or calipers until the parts have
had sufficient time to cool.
BRAKE INSPECTION
Inspectthe brake system before each use of the Fun-
Kart. Always clean and service before each season
and after removal from storage. The routine
maintenance presented below is required to keep the
brake system in good working order.
1. Inspect the entire braking system to ensure that
all connections are secure and all pivot points
move freely.
2. Check brake pedal travel,,Brake linkage should
move freely and snap back to rear position. Pedal
free play should not be more than 1/2 inch.
3. Check brake band for wear and replace ifthe
brake band material is 1/16 inch or less. In
normal service, band will need replacing only
after prolonged use.
BRAKE ADJUSTMENT (See Figure 19)
The brake rod must be adjusted (shortened) ifthe
brake band does not press hard enough against the
brake drum to stop the Fun-Kart.

1, The brake rod (1) can be shortened by removing
the hex head bolt that holds the brake rod (2) on
the brake pedal (3), reassembling the bolt in the
rear hole of the brake rod and tightening the nut.
_ WARNING: Replace the Iocknuts with the
same type each time they are removed.
_IL WARNING: DO NOT overtighten fasteners.
Pedal must move freely.
2. Additional adjustment can be made in the same
manner at the rear of the Fun-Kart where the
brake rod attaches to the brake band.
NOTE: Clevis pins (4) are used to attach the brake
rod (5) at the rear, Install a new cotter pin (6) with
each service.
_1_ WARNING: Install proper fasteners in good
condition throughout brake system. Fasteners in
poor condition may cause brake failure.
_b_ WARNING: DO NOT over-tighten fasteners.
Pedal must move freely.
