SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Before installation, use or maintenance, always read
the safety instructions in this manual carefully.
• Do not store or use gasoline or any other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of the Trap or any
other appliance!
• Dispose of all packaging materials properly when unpacking your new Flying Insect Trap.
• Remove all packaging materials from your new Trap. Keep all materials away from infants and small
children.
• Do not operate if the Trap appears damaged. Call Koolatron Customer Service at 1-800-265-8456.
• Do not connect the power cord to your Trap if water or moisture is present.
• Keep out of the reach of children.
• Do not put foreign objects into your Trap.
• Avoid looking directly into the UV light for any extended periods of time.
• Do not touch the fan during operation.
• Always disconnect from the outlet before cleaning.
• Avoid placing in direct sunlight.
• Dispose of all used attractant in a trash receptacle. Do not store near insect repellents or other
chemicals. Unopened attractant should be stored in a cool, dry place.
• The connection between the Trap and any approved extension cord used must be kept dry and off the
ground. If in doubt about electrical connections, please consult your local electric code.
• Disconnect the Trap from the power supply when not in use, before adding attractant cartridges,
before cleaning, before servicing or before putting in storage.
• Your Trap should be stored indoors when not in use and kept away from children.
• To avoid electric shock, DO NOT clean the Trap with spraying water or by immersion in water or other
liquid.
• All repairs to the Trap must be performed only by qualified service personnel.
• Read and follow all instructions prior to use of your new Trap.
• Young children should be carefully supervised when they are in the area of your Trap.
• Clothing or other flammable materials should not be hung from or placed on the Trap.
• Any guard or other protective device removed for servicing the Trap must be replaced prior to operating.
• Keep the area around your Trap clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline and other
flammable vapors and liquids.
• Do not handle the Trap when using insect repellents.
NOTE: Do not place your Trap on unstable surfaces or areas where it may tip over, or on electrical
appliances.

UNDERSTANDING ATTRACTING & TRAPPING PRINCIPLES
Your new Bite Shield™ Wall-Mount Flying Insect Trap combines multiple technologies to attract
not only flying insects, but allows you to target mosquito’s when they are a problem!
• The 4W UV black light bulb emits ultraviolet rays at the 365nm wavelength, which creates a photo
catalytic reaction when it comes in contact with the Ti02 (Titanium Dioxide) coating inside the Trap.
• Octenol is a proven attractant to blood-seeking flying insects, and your Bite Shield™ Octenol cartridge
will last between 45 to 60 days.
All these technologies work together to attract Mosquito’s and other flying insects to the Trap, where
they are pulled into the Capture Tray by a powerful fan, where they will dehydrate and die.

CONGRATULATIONS! Your new Bite Shield™ Flying Insect Trap incorporates the latest flying
insect attractant technologies, and will capture those annoying pests for more enjoyable living
either indoors or out! The Bite Shield™ product line is a leader in reducing mosquito and flying
insect populations, and we’d love to hear your comments. Let us know what you think of your
PLACEMENT OF YOUR NEW TRAP
• Select the best location to hang or mount your trap, remembering that the Trap will attract flying insects
to it, so it should be placed away from high-traffic areas.
• If placed indoors, keep away from food areas.
• Do NOT use your Octenol attractant cartridge when placed indoors.
• If placed outdoors, hang or mount your Trap at least one and a half meters (5 ft.) above the ground,
ideally out of the reach of children and pets. It is always best if your Trap is placed in a spacious dark
location.
• If the mounting wall is solid wood at least 3/8” (9mm) thick, drive the provided screw onto the wood
surface leaving a gap between the screw head and the wall of about 1/8” (3mm). Hang the trap from
the screw by inserting the head of the screw into the slot at the back of the trap.
• If the mounting wall is concrete, brick, drywall or any other hard material, drill a 3/16th inch hole, at
least as deep as the anchor length. Insert the anchor into the hole until flush with wall surface and drive
the provided one inch long #8 Screw into it, leaving a gap between the screw head and the wall of
about 1/8” (3mm). Hang the trap from the screw by inserting the head of the screw into the slot at the
back of the trap.
OPERATION
• Connect the adapter plug to the Trap first, and then plug the adapter directly into the nearest 110/120V
AC outlet or an approved outdoor use extension cord.
FOR OPTIMAL OPERATION AND PERFORMANCE
• Use your Trap as needed, but avoid unnecessary use.
• When used outdoors to capture mosquitoes, it is recommended to use at least between sunset and
sunrise, their most active periods.
• Store the Trap when not in use.
MAINTENANCE FOR YOUR NEW TRAP
Periodically check that your Trap is clean and the airflow is not blocked.
• Empty the Catch Tray on a regular basis (frequency and amount of insect catch will vary depending on
geographical location and meteorological conditions)
• Always unplug the Trap before cleaning.
• When needed, to clean the upper portion of your Trap pull gently on the center of the clear window and
it will unsnap from the Trap. Wipe or brush away any debris around the bulb cover and fan. You can
also use a damp cloth for cleaning, but do not use any sharp object or detergents or solvents that
might scratch or scrape off the Ti02 coating.
• Dry all parts completely before re-assembling.
CHANGING THE UV BULB
The light emitted by the UV bulb provided with your new Trap is specially manufactured to attract
mosquitoes and other blood seeking flying insects, as well as moths, gnats and other flying insects. The
UV bulb is replaceable at many local retailers (see Technical Data Section for bulb details), or can be
re-ordered at www.koolatron.com, calling 1-800-265-8456.
To change your bulb:
• Unplug the adapter from both the unit and the outlet.
• Remove the front clear window cover by pulling GENTLY on the center so it snaps out of the trap.
• Twist and remove the non-functioning bulb and replace with a new bulb by inserting the pins at the end
into the sockets and once both pins of each end are in, twist ¼ turn until the bulb pins snap into the
socket contacts.
• Reattach the clear window by pressing gently, making sure the sides snap into the trap walls and
remain secure in place.
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
TRAP DOES NOT OPERATE
• Make sure the adapter plug is nestled snugly into the back of your Trap.
• Make sure the adapter plug is firmly inserted into the electrical outlet.
• Make sure that the electrical outlet has power by trying other electrical devices that are known to be
functional
UV LIGHT DOESN’T WORK WHILE FAN IS OPERATING
• Check that the UV bulb is placed correctly and securely.
• Replace the UV bulb.
MY FAN STOPPED WORKING
• See the “Maintenance” Section and follow instructions to make sure the air flow is not blocked, the
Catch Cup is not full and inhibiting air flow, and that the fan blades are not clogged with debris. Clean
as necessary after unplugging the unit.
MY TRAP DOES NOT CATCH INSECTS EVEN WHEN LIGHT AND FAN ARE OPERATIONAL
• Make sure that the catch tray is properly inserted all the way into the trap.
• Check for obstructions or foreign objects blocking the airflow into the trap (slot under the UV bulb)
• Check the airflow direction by making sure that a strong stream of air is coming out from the bottom
of the unit. If this is not the case, the fan may be inverted and it may need to be serviced. Please call
Customer Service if this is the case.
• Ensure the catch tray does not have any holes or tears on the mesh areas
• Ensure the trap is not close to any insect repellents, volatile substances or strong odors that may repel
the insects form the area.
• Make sure you have left the trap on at least for a full night (from 5pm to 6am for example) and that the
weather is not too cold for insects to be out.

Toutes ces technologies travaillent ensemble pour attirer les maringouins et autres insectes volants vers le piège,
o
ù ils sont tirés vers un plateau de capture par un ventilateur puissant, où ils sèchent et meurent.
EMPLACEMENT DE VOTRE NOUVEAU PIÈGE
• Sélectionnez le meilleur endroit pour suspendre votre piège, vous en rappelant que le piège attire les insectes
volants, donc le piège doit être placé loin des zones très fréquentées.
• S'il est placé à l'intérieur, assurez-vous de le suspendre loin des endroits de nourriture.
• N'utilisez PAS la cartouche d'appât Octenol lors de son placement à l'intérieur.
• S'il est placé à l'extérieur, suspendez ou montez votre piège au moins un et demi mètres (5 pi) au-dessus du sol,
idéalement hors de la portée des enfants et des animaux de compagnie. C'est toujours meilleur de placer votre
piège dans un endroit foncé spacieux.
• Si le mur de montage est en bois solide d'une épaisseur de 9 mm (3/4 po), vissez la vis fournie dans la surface
en bois en laissant une espace d'environ 3 mm (1/8 po) entre la tête de la vis et le mur. Suspendez le piège de
la vis en insérant la tête de la vis dans l'encoche à l'arrière du piège.
• Si le mur de montage est en béton, brique, cloison sèche ou tout autre matériau, percez un trou d'une longueur
de 3/16 po, au moins aussi creux que la longueur de l'ancrage. Insérez l'ancrage dans le trou au même niveau
que la surface du mur et y vissez la vis fournie no 8 d'un pouce de long, laissant une espace entre la tête de la
vis et le mur d'environ 3 mm (1/8 po). Suspendez le piège de la vis en insérant la tête de la vis dans l'encoche
à l'arrière du piège.
FONCTIONNEMENT
• Connectez d'abord la fiche femelle de l'adaptateur dans le piège, branchez ensuite l'adaptateur directement
dans la prise 110/120 V CA ou dans un cordon de rallonge approuvé pour usage à l'extérieur.
POUR UN FONCTIONNEMENT ET UNE PERFORMANCE OPTIMALS
• Utilisez votre piège au besoin, mais évitez une utilisation non nécessaire.
• Lorsqu'il est utilisé à l'extérieur pour capturer les maringouins, il est recommandé de l'utiliser entre le coucher
et le lever du soleil, soit les périodes qu'ils sont plus actifs.
• Rangez le piège lorsqu'il n'est pas utilisé.
ENTRETIEN DU NOUVEAU PIÈGE
Vérifiez périodiquement que votre piège est propre et que le débit d'air n'est pas bloqué.
• Videz le plateau de capture régulièrement (la fréquence et le montant de capture d'insectes varient dépendant
des endroits géographiques et des conditions de météorologiques.)
• Débranchez toujours le piège avant de le nettoyer.
• Au besoin, pour nettoyer la partie supérieure de votre piège, tirez soigneusement sur le centre de la fenêtre
transparente afin de la libérer du piège. Essuyez ou enlevez à l'aide d'une brosse les débris autour du couver-
cle de l'ampoule et du ventilateur. Vous pouvez également utiliser un chiffon mouillé pour nettoyer, mais
n'utilisez pas un objet tranchant ni de détergent ni de solvant qui pourrait rayer le revêtement Ti02.
• Séchez toutes les parties complètement avant de l'assembler de nouveau.
CHANGER L'AMPOULE UV
L'ampoule UV fournie avec votre nouveau piège est fabriquée spécialement pour attirer les maringouins et autres
insectes volants à la recherche d'un repas de sang, ainsi que les mites, moucherons et autres insectes volants.
L'ampoule UV de rechange est disponible chez plusieurs détaillants locaux (voir la section des données tech-
niques pour les données sur l'ampoule), ou vous pouvez la commander soit sur notre site Web
www.koolatron.com ou en composant le 1 800 265-8456.
Pour changer votre ampoule :
•
Débranchez l'adaptateur de votre appareil et de la prise.
•
Retirez le couvercle de la fenêtre transparente avant en tirant SOIGNEUSEMENT sur le centre afin qu'elle soit
libérée du piège.
• Tournez et retirez l'ancienne ampoule et remplacez-la avec une nouvelle ampoule en insérant les broches de
chaque bout dans la prise à chaque extrémité et une fois insérée, tournez-la 1/4 tour jusqu'à ce que les broches
s'enclenchent dans les contacts des prises.
• Fixez de nouveau la fenêtre transparente en appuyant doucement, vous assurant que les côtés s'enclenchent
dans les côtés latéraux et demeurent solidement en place.
CONSEILS DE DÉPANNAGE
LE PIÈGE NE FONCTIONNE PAS
• Assurez-vous que la fiche de l'adaptateur est bien en place à l'arrière de votre piège.
• Assurez-vous que la fiche de l'adaptateur est bien insérée dans la prise électrique.
• Assurez-vous que la prise électrique a de la puissance en essayant d'autres dispositifs électriques dont vous
savez qu'ils fonctionnent.
LA LUMIÈRE UV NE FONCTIONNE PAS LORSQUE LE VENTILATEUR EST EN MARCHE
• Vérifiez que l'ampoule UV est placée correctement et solidement.
• Remplacez l'ampoule UV.
MON VENTILATEUR ARRÊTE DE FONCTIONNER
• Consultez la section « Entretien » et suivez les instructions pour vous assurer que le débit d'air n'est pas
bloqué, que le godet de capture n'est pas plein empêchant le débit d'air, et que les lames du ventilateur ne sont
pas bouchées avec des débris. Nettoyez au besoin après avoir débranché l'appareil.
MON PIÈGE NE CAPTURE PAS LES INSECTES MÊME LORSQUE LA LUMIÈRE ET LE VENTILATEUR SONT EN
MARCHE
• Assurez-vous que le plateau de capture est bien inséré complètement dans le piège.
• Vérifiez pour des blocages ou corps étrangers bloquant le débit d'air dans le piège (rainure sous l'ampoule UV)
• Vérifiez la direction de débit d'air en vous assurant qu'il y a un débit d'air puissant venant du bas de l'appareil.
Si ce n'est pas le cas, le ventilateur peut être inversé et peut avoir besoin d'entretien. Appelez le service à la
clientèle si c'est le cas.
• Assurez-vous que le plateau de capture n'a aucun trou ou de déchirure aux endroits du filet.
• Assurez-vous que le piège n'est pas à proximité aux insectifuges, substances volatiles ou odeurs fortes qui
peuvent repousser les insectes de l'endroit.
• Assurez-vous que vous avez laissé le piège en marche pendant toute une nuit (de 17 h à 6 h par exemple) et
que le temps n'est pas trop froid pour les insectes d'être sorti.
