Start the Engine
1. Cleanthefuelcapareaofdirtanddebris.Removethefuelcap
(D,Figure3).
2. Fillthefueltankwithfuel.Toallowforexpansionofthefuel,do
notllabovethebottomofthefueltankneck.
3. Install the fuel cap.

WARNING
When Adding Fuel
• Turnoffengineandletcoolatleast2minutesbefore
removingthefuelcapandaddingfuel.
• Fillfueltankoutdoorsorinawellventilatedarea.
• Donotoverfillthefueltank.Toallowfortheexpansionof
gasoline,donotfillabovethebottomofthefueltankneck.
• Keepfuelawayfromsparks,openflames,pilotlights,heat,
and other ignition sources.
• If fuel spills, wait until it evaporates before starting engine.
Fuelanditsvaporsareextremelyflammable
andexplosive.Alwayshandlefuelwith
extremecare.
Failuretoobservethesesafetyinstructionscan
causeafireorexplosionwhichwillresultin
severe burns or death.
WARNING
When Starting Engine
• Ensurethatsparkplug,muffler,fuelcap,andaircleaner(if
equipped)areinplaceandsecured.
• Donotcranktheenginewiththesparkplugremoved.
• Iffuelisspilled,donotattempttostarttheengine,butmove
thesnowthrowerawayfromtheareaofthespill,andavoid
creating any source of ignition, until the fuel vapors have
dissipated.
• Donotover-primetheengine.Followtheenginestarting
instructionsinthismanual.
• Iftheenginefloods,setchoke(ifequipped)toOPEN/RUN
position,movethrottle(ifequipped)toFASTpositionand
crank until engine starts.
Fuelanditsvaporsareextremelyflammable
andexplosive.Alwayshandlefuelwith
extremecare.

causeafireorexplosionwhichwillresultin

WARNING
Rapidretractionofthestartercord(kickback)
willpullyourhandandarmtowardtheengine
faster than you can let go.

When Starting the Engine
• Pull the starter cord slowly until resistance is felt and then
pull rapidly to avoid kickback.
WARNING
Damagedorungroundedpowercordscould
cause electric shock.
Electricshockcouldcausesevereburnsor
death.
When Using the Electric Starter
• Thepowercordmustbeproperlygroundedatalltimes.
• Use only a three-conductor power cord properly grounded
to the power source.
• Iftheextensioncordisdamaged,itmustbereplaceda
qualiedpersontoavoidahazard.
NOTE: The electric starter is designed for a three-conductor
power cord only and operates on standard household current. If a
properlygroundedelectricalsourceisnotavailable,DONOTuse
the electric starter. Contact a licensed electrician for installation of
aproperlygroundedsystem.
1. Check the oil level. See Add Oil / Check Oil Level.
2. Ensuretheaugercontrolisdisengaged.
3. InserttheON/OFFkey(A,Figure4)andturntotheONposi-
tion or insert the Push/Pull key, if equipped.
Enginesgiveoffcarbonmonoxide,an
odorless, colorless, poison gas. Breathing
carbonmonoxidecancausenausea,fainting,
or death.
WARNING
• Start and run engine outdoors.
• Do not run the engine in an enclosed area, even if doors or
windows are open.
