LIMITED TWO YEAR WARRANTY ON CRAFTSMAN POWER MOWER

For two years from date of purchase, when this Craftsman Lawn Mower is maintained,

lubricated, and tuned up according to the operating and maintenance instructionsin

the owner's manual, Sears will repair free of charge any defect in material or work-

manship.

If this Craftsman Lawn Mower is used for commercial or rental purposes, this warranty

applies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.

This Warranty does not cover:

• Expendable items which become worn during normal use, such as rotary mower

blades, blade adapters, belts, air cleaners and spark plug.

• Repairs necessary because of operator abuse or negligence, including bent

crankshafts and the failure to maintain the equipment according to the instructions

contained in the owner's manual.

Warranty service is available by retuming the Craftsman power mower to the nearest

Sears Service Center/Department in the United States. This warranty applies only

while thisproduct isin use inthe United States.

ThisWarranty gives you specific legal dghts, and you may also have other rights

which vary from state to state.

IMPORTANT: This cutting machine is capable of amputating hands and feet and

I, GENERAL OPERATION

• Read, understand, and follow all

instructions on the machine and in the

manual(s) before starting. Be thor-

oughly familiar with the controlsand

the proper use of the machine before

starting.

• Do not put hands or feet near or under

rotatingparts. Keep clear ofthe

discharge opening at all times.

• Only allow responsible individuals,

who are familiar with the instructions,to

operate the machine.

• Clear the area of objects such as

racks, toys, wire, bones, sticks, etc.,

which could be picked up and thrown

by the blade.

• Be sure the area is clear of uther

people before mowing. Stop machine ff

anyone enters the area.

• Do not operate the mower when

barefoot or wearing open sandals.

Always wear substantial foot wear.

• Do not pull mower backwards unless

absolutely necessary. Always look

down and behind before and while

moving backwards.

• Do not operate the mower without

proper guards, plates, grass catcher or

other safety protective devices in place.

• See manufacturer's instructionsfor

proper operation and installation of

accessories. Only use accessories

approved by the manufacturer.

• Stop the blade(s) when crossing gravel

drives, walks, or roads.

• Stop the engine (motor) whenever you

leave the equipment, before cleaning

the mower or uncloggingthe chute.

• Shut the engine (motor) off and wait

untilthe blade comes to complete stop

before removing grass catcher.

• Mow only in daylightor good artificial

light.

• Do not operate the machine while

under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• Never operate machine in wet grass.

Always be sure ofyour footing: keep a

firm holdon the handle and walk; never

run.

• Disengage the self-propelled mecha-

nism or ddve clutchon mowers so

equipped before starting the engine

(motor).

• If the equipment should start to vibrate

abnormally, stop the engine (motor)

and check immediately for the cause.

Vibration is generally a warning of

trouble.

• Always wear safety goggles or safety

glasses with side shields when

operating mower.

II. SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor related to slip

and fall accidents which can result in

severe injury.All slopes require extra

caution. Ifyou feel uneasy on a slope, do

not mow it.

DO:

• Mow across the face of slopes: never

up and down. Exercise extreme caution

when changing direction on slopes.

• Remove obstacles such as rocks,tree

limbs, etc.

• Watch for holes, ruts,or bumps.Tall

grass can hide obstacles.

DO NOT:

• Do nottrim near drop-offs, ditches or

embankments. The operator could lose

footing or balance.

• Do not tdm excessively steep slopes.

• Do not mow on wet grass. Reduced

footing could cause slipping.

II1.CHILDREN

Tragic accidents can occur if the operator

isnot alert tothe presence of children.

Childrenare often attracted to the

machine and the mowing activity.Never

assume that children will remain where

you last saw them.

• Keep children outof the tdmmingarea

and under the watchful care of another

responsible adult.

• Be alert and turn machine off if children

enter the area.

• Before and while walking backwards,

look behind and down for small

children.

• Never allow children to operate the

machine.

• Use extra care when approaching blind

comers, shrubs, tress, or other objects

that may obscure vision.

IV. SERVICE

• Use extra care in handling gasoline

and other fuels. They are flammable

and vapors are explosive.

-Use only an approved container.

-Never remove gas cap or add fuel

with the engine running. Allow

engine to cool before refueling. Do

not smoke.

- Never refuel the machine indoors.

- Never store the machine or fuel

container inside where there is an

open flame, such as a water heater.

• Never run a machine inside a closed

area.

• Never make adjustments or repairs with

the engine (motor) running. Disconnect

the spark plug wire, and keep the wire

away from the plugto prevent acciden-

tal starting.

• Keep nuts and bolts, especially blade

attachment bolts, tight and keep

equipment in good condition.

• Never tamper with safety devices.

Check their proper operation regularly.

• Keep machine free of grass, leaves, or

other debds build-up. Clean oil or fuel

spillage. Allow machine to cool before

storing.

• Stop and inspect the equipment if you

strike an object. Repair, if necessary,

before restarting.

• Never attempt to make wheel height

adjustments while the engine (motor) is

running.

• Grass catcher components are subject

to wear, damage, and deterioration,

which could expose moving parts or

allow objects to be thrown. Frequently

check components and replace with

manufacturer's recommended parts,

when necessary.

• Mower blades are sharp and can cut.

Wrap the blade(s) or wear gloves,and

use extra caution when servicing them.

• Do not change the engine governor

setting or overspeed the engine.

Read these instructionsand this manual

in its entirety before you attempt to

assemble or operate your new lawn

mower.

IMPORTANT: This lawn mower is

shippedWITHOUT OIL OR GASOLINE in

the engine.

Your new lawn mower has been as-

sembled at the factory with the exception

of those parts left unassembled for

shipping purposes. All partssuch as nuts,

washers, bolts, etc., necessary to com-

plete the assembly have been placed in

the parts bag. To ensure safe and proper

operation of your lawn mower, all parts

and hardware you assemble must be

tightened securely. Use the correct tools

as necessary to ensure proper tightness.

TO REMOVE LAWN MOWER FROM

CARTON

1. Remove loose parts included with

mower.

2. Cut down twoend comers of carton

and lay end panel down flat.

3. Remove all packing materials except

padding between upper and lower

handle and padding holding operator

presence control bar to upper handle.

4. Roll lawn mower out of carton and

check carton thorouglyfor additional

loose parts.

HOWTO SET UPYOUR LAWN

TO UNFOLD HANDLE

IMPORTANT: Unfoldhandle carefully so

as notto pinch or damage control cables.

1. Raise handles until lower handle

section locks into place in mowing

position.

2. Remove protective padding, raise

upper handle section into place on

lower handle and tighten both handle

knobs.

3. Remove handle padding holding

operator presence control bar to

upper handle.

Your lawn mower handle can be adjusted

for your mowing comfort. Refer to "AD-

JUST HANDLE" in the Service and

Adjustments section of this manual.

HOWTO USEYOUR LAWN MOWER

ENGINE SPEED

The engine speed was set at the factory

for optimumperformance, Speed is not

adjustable.

ENGINE ZONE CONTROL

_I,CAUTION: Federal regulations require

an engine control to be installed on this

lawn mower in order to minimize the dsk

ofblade contact injury. Do not under any

circumstancesattempt to defeat the

function ofthe operatorcontrol.The blade

turns when the engine is running.

• Your lawn mower is equipped with an

operator presence control bar which

requiresthe operator to be positioned

behind the lawn mower handle to start

and operate the lawn mower.

TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT

Raise wheels for low cut and lower

wheels for high cut, adjust cUttingheight

to suit your requirements. Medium

position is best for most lawns.

To change cuttingheight, squeeze

adjuster lever toward wheel. Move

wheel up or downto suit your require-

ments. Be sure all wheels are in the

same setlJng.

NOTE: Adjuster is properlypositioned

when plate tab inserts into hole in lever.

Also, g-positionadjusters (if so equipped)

allow lever to be positioned between the

plate tabs.

1. Liftup on grass catcher using the

frame handle.

2. Remove grass catcher with clippings

from under lawn mower handle.

3. Empty clippingsfrom bag using both

frame handle and bag handle.

NOTE: Do not drag the bag when

emptying; itwill cause unnecessary wear.

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

ADD OIL

Your lawnmower is shipped without oil in

the engine. Engine holds 20 oz. of oil.

For type and grade of oil to use, see

=ENGINE" in Maintenance section of this

manual.

1. Be sure lawnmower is level and area

around oil fill is clean.

2. Remove engine oil cap and fill to the

full lineon the dipstick. Pour oil slowly.

Do not over fill.

NOTE: Allow oil to settle down into engine

foraccurate reading. To read proper level,

tightenengine oil cap, then remove it to

read the dipstick.

3. Reinstall engine oil cap and tighten.

• Check oil level before each use. Add

oil if needed. Fill tofull line on dipstick.

• Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operation or each season. You may

need to change the oil more often

under dusty, dirty conditions.

ADD GASOLINE

• Fill fuel tank. Use fresh, clean, regular

unleaded gasoline with a minimum of

87 octane. Do not mix oil with gaso-

line. Purchase fuel in quantities that

can be used within 30 days to assure

fuel freshness.

_I,WARNING: Experience indicatesthat

alcohol blended fuels (called gasohel or

using ethanol or methanol) can attract

moisture which leads to separation and

formation of acids duringstorage. Acidic

gas can damage the fuel system of an

engine while in storage. To avoid engine

problems, the fuel system should be

emptied before storage of 30 days or

longer. Drain the gas tank, start the

engine and let it run untilthe fuel lines

and carburetor are empty. Use fresh fuel

next season. See Storage Instructionsfor

additional information. Never use engine

or carburetor cleaner products in the fuel

tank or permanent damage may occur.

Al_CAUTION: Fillto bottomof gas tank

filler neck. Do not overfill. Wipe off any

spilled oil or fuel. Do notstore, spill or

use gasoline near an open flame.

TO START ENGINE

NOTE: Due to protectivecoatings on the

engine, a small amount of smoke may be

present duringthe initial use ofthe

product and should be considered

normal.

1. To start a cold engine, push primer

three (3) times before tryingto starf.

Use a firm push. This step isnot

usually necessary when starting an

engine which has already run for a

few minutes.

2. Hold operator presence control bar

down to the handle and pull starter

handle quickly. Do not allow starter

rope to snap back.

TO STOP ENGINE

• To stop engine, release operator

presence control bar.

NOTE: In cooler weather it may be

necessary to repeat priming steps. In

warmer weather over pdming may cause

floodingand engine willnot start. If you

do flood engine, waif a few minutes

before attempting to start and do not

repeat priming steps.

MOWINGTIPS

• Under certain conditions,such as very

tall grass, it may be necessary to raise

the heightof cut to reduce pushing

effortand to keep from overloading the

engine and leaving clumps of grass

clippings. It may also be necessary to

reduce ground speed and/or run the

lawn mower over the area a second

time.

• For extremely heavy cutting, reduce the

width of cut by overlapping previously

cut path and mow slowly.

• For better grass bagging and most

cutting conditions,the engine speed

should be set in the fast position.

• When using a rear discharge lawn

mower in moist, heavy grass, clumps of

cut grass may not enter the grass

catcher. Reduce ground speed

(pushingspeed) and/or run the lawn

mower over the area a second time.

• If a trailof clippings isleft on the right

side of a rear discharge mower, mow in

a clockwise direction with a small

overlap to collect the clippings on the

next pass.

• Pores in cloth grass catchers can

become filled with dirt and dust with

use and catchers will collectless grass.

To prevent this, regularly hose catcher

off with water and let dry before using.

• Keep top of engine around starter clear

and clean of grass clippings and chaff.

This will help engine air flow and

extend engine life.

MULCHING MOWINGTIPS

IMPORTANT: For best performance,

keep mower housing free of built-up

grass and trash. See "CLEANING" inthe

Maintenance section of this manual.

• The special mulchingblade will recut

the grass clippings many times and

reduce them in size so that as they fall

onto the lawn they will disperse intothe

grass and not be noticed. Also,the

mulched grass will biodegrade quickly

to provide nutdentsfor the lawn.

Always mulch with your highest engine

(blade) speed as this will provide the

best recutting action of the blades.

• Avoid cuttingyour lawn when it iswet.

Wet grass tends to form clumpsand

interferes with the mulchingaction. The

besttime to mow your lawn is the eady

afternoon. At this time the grass has

dded and the newly cut area will not be

exposed to the direct sun.

• For best results, adjust the lawn mower

cuttingheight so that the lawn mower

cutsoff only the top one-third ofthe

grass blades. If the lawn is overgrown it

will be necessary to raise the height of

cut to reduce pushingeffort and to keep

from overloading the engine and

leaving clumps of mulched grass. For

extremely heavy mulching, reduce your

width of cut by overlapping previously

cut path and mow slowly.

• Certain types of grass and grass

conditions may require that an area be

mulched a second time to completely

hide the clippings. When doing a

second cut, mow across or perpendicu-

lar to the first cut path.

• Change your cutting pattern from week

to week. Mow northto south one week

then change to east to west the next

week. This will help prevent matting

and graining of the lawn.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

The warranty on this lawn mower does

notcover items that have been subjected

to operator abuse or negligence. To

receive full value from the warranty,

operator must maintain mower as

instructed in this manual.

Some adjustments will need to be made

periodicallyto propedy maintain your

unit.

• Once a year, replace the spark plug,

clean or replace air filter element and

check blade for wear. A new spark

plug and clean]new air filter element

assure proper air-fuel mixture and help

your engine run better and last longer.

• Follow the maintenance schedule in

this manual.

IMPORTANT: Do not oil or grease

plastic wheel bearings, viscous

lubricants will attractdust and dirt that

will shorten the life ofthe self-lubricat-

ingbearings. If you feel they must be

lubricated, usa only a dry, powdered

graphite type lubricant sparingly.

Always observe safety rules when

performing any maintenance.

TIRES

• Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect

controlchemicals which can harm

rubber.

• Avoid stumps,stones, deep ruts, sharp

objectsand other hazards that may

cause tire damage.

BLADE CARE

For best results, mower blade must be

kept sharp. Replace bent or damaged

blades.

TO REMOVE BLADE

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannot

come in contact with spark plug.

2, Turn lawn mower on its side. Make

sure air filter and carburetor are up.

3. Use a wood block between blade and

mower housing to prevent blade from

turning when removing blade bolt.

NOTE: Protect your hands with gloves

and/or wrap blade with heavy cloth.

4. Remove blade bolt by turning counter-

clockwise.

5. Remove blade and attaching hard-

ware (bolt, lock washer and hardened

washer).

NOTE: Remove the blade adapter and

check the key inside hub of blade

adapter. The key must be in good condi-

tion to work properly. Replace adapter if

damaged.

TO REPLACE BLADE

1. Positionthe blade adapter on the

engine crankshaft. Be sure key in

adapter and crankshaft keyway are

aligned.

2. Position blade on the blade adapter

aligningthe two (2) holes in the blade

with the raised lugs on the adapter.

3. Be sure the trailing edge of blade

(opposite sharp edge) is up toward

the engine.

4. Install the blade bolt with the lock

washer and hardened washer into

blade adapter and crankshaft.

5. Use block of wood between blade and

lawn mower housing and tightenthe

blade bolt, turning clockwise.

• The recommendsd tightening torque is

35-40 ft. Ibs.

IMPORTANT: Blade boltis grade 8 heat

treated.

TO SHARPEN BLADE

NOTE: We do not recommend sharpen-

ing blade - but if you do, be sure the

blade is balanced.

Care should be taken to keep the blade

balanced. An unbalanced blade will

cause eventual damage to lawn mower

or engine.

• The blade can be sharpened with a file

or on a grinding wheel. Do notattempt

to sharpen while on the mower.

• To check blade balance, drive a nail

into a beam or wall. Leave about one

inchof the straight nail exposed. Place

center hole of blade over the head of

the nail. If blade is balanced, it should

remain in a horizontal position. If either

end of the blade moves downward,

sharpen the heavy end untilthe blade

is balanced.

GRASS CATCHER

• The grass catcher may be hosed with

water, but must be dry when used.

• Check your grass catcher often for

damage or detedoration. Through

normaluse it will wear. If catcher needs

replacing, replace only with a manufac-

turer approved replacement catcher.

Give the lawn mower model number

when ordedng.

ENGINE

LUBRICATION

Use only high quality detergent oil rated

with API serviceclassificationSF-SJ.

Select the oil'sSAE viscositygrade

according to your expected operating

temperature.

SAlE VISCOSITY GRADES

Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operationor at least once a year ifthe

lawn mower is not used for 25 hours in

one year.

Check the crankcase oil level before

starting the engine and after each five (5)

hours of continuous use. Tighten oil plug

securely each time you check the oil

level.

TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL

NOTE: Before tippinglawn mower to

drain oil, drain fuel tank by running

engine untilfuel tank is empty.

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannot

come in contact with spark plug.

2. Remove engine oil cap; lay aside on a

clean surface.

3. Tip lawn mower on its side as shown

and drain oil into a suitable container.

Rock lawn mower back and forth to

remove any oil trapped inside of

engine.

4. Wipe off any spilled oil on lawn mower

and on side of engine.

5. Fill engine with oil. (See "ADD OIL" in

the Operation section ofthis manual.)

6. Reconnect spark plug wire to spark

plug.

NOTE: Although multi-viscosityoils

(5W30, 10W30 etc.) improve starting in

cold weather, these multi-viscosityoils

will result in increased oil consumption

when used above 32°F. Check your

engine oil level more frequently to avoid

possible engine damage from running

low on oil.

AIR FILTER

Your engine will not run properly and may

be damaged by using a dirty air filter.

Replace the air filter every year or after

every 100 hours of operation, more often

if you mow in very dusty, dirty conditions.

Do not wash air filter.

TO CHANGE AIR FILTER

1. Remove the air filter by turning

clockwiseto the stop and pull away

from collar.

2. Remove filter from inside of cover.

3, Clean the inside ofthe cover and the

collar to remove any dirt accumula-

tion.

4. Insert new filter into cover.

5. Put air filter cover and filter into collar

aligning the tab with the slot,

6. Push in on cover and turn counter-

clockwiseto tighten.

MUFFLER

Inspect and replace corroded muffleras it

could create a fire hazard and/or dam-

age.

SPARK PLUGS

Replace spark plugs at the beginning of

each mowing season or after every 100

hours of operation, whichever occursfirst.

Spark plugtype and gap setting are

shown in =PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS"

section of this manual.

CLEANING

IMPORTANT: For best performance,

keep mower housing free of built-up

grass and trash. Clean the underside of

your mower after each use.

_,CAUTION: Disconnect spark plug wire

from spark plug and place wire where it

cannot come in contact with the spark

plug.

• Clean the underside of your lawn

mower by scraping to remove build-up

of grass and trash.

• Clean engine often to keep trash from

accumulating. A clogged engine runs

hotter and shortens engine life.

• Keep finished surfaces and wheels free

of all gasc4ine, oil, etc.

• We do not recommend using a garden

hose to clean lawn mower unless the

electrical system, muffler, air filter and

carburetor are covered to keep water

out. Water in engine can result in

shortened engine life.

_,CAUTION: Before performing any

service or adjustments:

1. Release control bar and stop engine.

2. Make sure the blade and all moving

parts have completely stopped.

3. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place where it cannot come

in contact with plug.

REAR DEFLECTOR

The rear deflector, attached between the

rear wheels of your mower, is providedto

minimize the possibilitythat objects will

be thrown out of the rear of the mower

intothe operator's mowing position. If the

deflector becomes damaged, it should be

replaced.

TO ADJUST HANDLE

The handle on your lawn mower has

three (3) height positions- adjust to

height that suitsyou.

• Squeeze the bottom ends of lower

handle towards each other until the pin

in handle can be inserted into one of

the three height adjustment holes.

Make sure the frame handle is outside

ofthe bag top.

2. Slip vinyl bindings over frame.

NOTE: Ifvinyl bindings are too stiff,hold

them in warm water for a few minutes. If

bag gets wet, let it drybefore using.

ENGINE SPEED

Your engine speed has been factory set.

Do not attempt to increase engine speed

or it may result in personal injury.If you

believe that the engine is runningtoo fast

or too slow,take your lawn mower to a

Sears or other qualifiedservice center for

repair and adjustment.

CARBURETOR

Your carburetor has a non-adjustable

fixed main jet for mixturecontrol. Ifyour

engine does not operate properly due to

suspected carburetor problems, take your

lawn mower to a Sears or other qualified

service canter for repair and/or adjust-

ment.

IMPORTANT: Never tamper withthe

engine governor, which is factory set for

proper engine speed. Overspeeding the

engine above the factory high speed

setting can be dangerous. If you think the

engine-governed high speed needs

adjusting, contacta Sears or other

qualified service center, which has proper

equipment and experienoe to make any

necessary adjustments.

Immediatelyprepare your lawn mower for

storage at the end of the season or if the

unit will not be used for 30 days or more.

LAWN MOWER

When lawn mower is to be stored for a

period oftime, clean it thoroughly,remove

all dirt,grease, leaves, etc. Store in a

clean, dry area.

1. Clean entire lawn mower (See

"CLEANING" in the Maintenance

sectionof this manual).

2. Lubricate as shown in the Mainte-

nance section of this manual.

3. Be sure that all nuts, bolts, screws,

and pins are securely fastened.

Inspect moving partsfor damage,

breakage and wear. Replace if

necessary.

4. Touch up all rusted or chipped paint

sudaces; sand lightly before painting.

HANDLE

You can fold your lawn mower handle for

storage.

1. Loosen the two (2) handle knobs on

sides of the upper handle and allow

handle to fold down to the rear.

2. Squeeze the bottom ends of lower

handle toward each other until pins in

handle clear the brackets and pivot

entire handle assembly forward and

allow it to reston mower.

• When setting up your handle from the

storage position, the lower handle will

require manually locking into the

mowing position.

IMPORTANT: When foldingthe handle

for storage or transportation,be sure to

fold the handle as shown or you may

damage the control cables.

FUEL SYSTEM

IMPORTANT: It isimportant toprevent

gum deposits from forming in essential

fuel system parts such as carburetor, fuel

filter,fuel hose, or tank during storage.

Also, experience indicates that alcohol

blended fuels (called gasohol or using

ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture

which leads to separation and formation

of acids during storage. Acidic gas can

damage the fuel system of an engine

while in storage.

1. Drain the fuel tank.

2. Start the engine and let it run untilthe

fuel lines and carburetor are empty.

• Never use engine or carburetor cleaner

products in the fuel tank or permanent

damage may occur.

• Use fresh fuel next season.

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable

alternative in minimizingthe formation of

fuel gum deposits during storage. Add

stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank or

storage container. Always follow the mix

ratio found on stabilizer container. Run

engine at least 10 minutes after adding

stabilizer to allow the stabilizer to reach

the carburetor. Do notdrain the gas tank

and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.

ENGINE OIL

Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace

with clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" in

the Maintenance section ofthis manual).

CYLINDER

1. Remove spark plug.

2. Pour one ounce (29 ml) of oil through

spark plug hole into cylinder.

3. Pull starter handle slowly a few times

to distribute oil.

4. Replace with new spark plug.

OTHER

• Do not store gasoline from one season

to another,

• Replace your gasoline can if your can

startsto rust. Rust and/or dirtin your

gasoline will cause problems.

• If possible, storeyour unk indoors and

cover itto give protectionfrom dust and

dirt.

• Cover your unit with a suitable protec-

tive cover that does not retainmoisture.

Do not use plastic, Plasticcannot

breathe, which allows condensation to

form and will cause your unitto rust.

IMPORTANT: Never cover mower while

engone and exhaust areas are stillwarm,

II. OPERACION SOBRE LAS CUESTAS

Los accidentes ocurmn con m_s frecuencia

en las cuestas. Estos accidentes ocurren

debido a resbaladas o cafdas, las cuales

pueden resuttar en graves lesiones. Operar la

recortadora en cuestas requiere mayor

concentracibn. Si se siente inseguro en una

cuesta, no la recorte.

HACER:

• Puede recortar a tray,s de Lasuperlicie de

la cuesta, nunca hacia arriba y hacia abajo.

Proceda con extrema precaucibn cuando

cambie de dimccion en las cuestas.

• Renueva todos los objetos extm_os, tales

como guijarros, mmas, etc.

• Debe prestar atencibn a hoyos, baches o

pmtuderanoias. Recuerde que la hierba elta

puede esconder obst&culos.

NO HACEFh

• No recorte cerca de pendientes, zanjas o

terraplenes. El operador puede perder la

tracci6n en los pies o el equilibrio.

• No recorte cuestas demasiado inclinadas.

• No mcorte en hierba mojada. La reduccibn

en la traccibn de la pisada puede causar

resbalones.

Se pueden producir accidentes trztgicossi el

operador no presta atencibn a la pmsencia de

los niBos. A menudo, los nifios se sienten

atra/dos por la rndquina y por la actividad de ta

siega. Nunca suponga que los elAos van a

permanecer en et mismo lugar donde los vio

• Mantenga a los niF_osalejados del drea de la

siega y bajo el cuidado estdcto de otra

persona adulta responsable.

• Est_ alerta y apague la mdquina si hay niflos

que entran al area.

• Antes y cuando este retrocadiendo, mire

hacia arras y hacia abajo para verificar si

hay niAos peque5os.

• Nunca permita que los niSos operen la

mdquina.

• Tenga un cuidado extra cuando se acerque

a esquinas donde no hay visibilidad, a los

arbustos, drboles u otros objetos que

pueden interfedr con su _inea de visibn.

IV. SERVIClO

• Tenga cuidado extra el manejar la gasolina

y los dern_s combustibles. Son inflamables

y los gases son explosivos.

- Use solamente un envase aprobado.

- Nunca ramueva la tapa del depbsito de

gasolina o agregue combustible con el

motorfuncionando. Permita clue el motor

se enfrle antes de volver a pone

combustible. No fume.

- Nunca vuelva a porter combustible en la

rn_quina en recintos cerrados.

- Nunca almacene la mdquina o el envase

del combustible dentro de alghn lugar en

donde haya una Ilarna expuesta, lal como

la del calentador de agua.

• Nunca haga funcionar una mdquina dentro

de un drea cerrada.

• Nunca haga ajustes o reparaciones

mientras el motor estd en mamha.

Desconecle el cable de la bujia, y

mant_ngalo a cierta distanela de _sta para

prevenir un arranque accidental.

• Mantenga las tuercas y los pemos,

especialmente los pemos del accesorio de

la cuchilla, apretados y mantenga el equipo

en buenas condiciones.

• Nunca manipule de forma indebida los

dispositivos de seguridad. Contrele

regularmente su funelonamiento correcto.

• Mantenga la mdquina libre de hierba, hojas

u otras acumulaciones de desperdicio.

Limpie los derrames de aceite o combus-

tible. Permita que la m.dquinase enfrle antes

de elmacenada.

COMO PREPARAR SU SEGADORA

PARA DESDOBLAR EL MANGO

IMPORTANTE: Despliegue el mango con

mucho cuidado para no pellizcar o daSar los

calves de control.

1. Levante los mangos hasta que la secd6n

de; mango infedorse asegure en su lugar,

en la posicibn para segor.

2. Remueva la cuSa proteclora, levante la

seccibn del mango superior hasta su lugar

en el mango inferior,y apriete ambas

manillas de; mango.

3. Remueva lacu6a de; mango que sujeta la

barra de los control que exige la presene;a

de; operador junto con el mango superior.

El mango de la segadora puede ajustarse

seg_n le acomode para segar. Refidrase a

"AJUSTE DEL MANGO" en la SecciSn de

segadora puede hacer que

Siempre usa anteojos de seguridad o

segadora o cuando haga ajustes o

reparaciones. Recomendamos una mascara

de seguridad de visibn amplia, pare uso

espejuelos o anteojos de seguridad

COMO USAR SU SEGADORA

VELOCIDAD DEL MOTOR

La velocidad del motor se estab_ecib en la

fdbdca pare un mndimiento bptimo. La

velocidad no se puede ajustar.

CONTROL DE ZONA DEL MOTOR

_PRECAUCI6N; Las regulaciones federeles

extgen que se instale un control pare et motor

en esta segadora para reducir a un minimo el

desgo de lesionarse debido el contacto con la

cuchilla. For ning0n motivo trate de eliminar la

funci6n del control de1operador. La cuchilla

giFacuando el motor est& foncionando.

• $u segadora viene equipada con una barra

de controles que exigen la presencia del

operador, Io que requiere que el operador

est_ detras del mango de la segadora para

hacerla arrancar y operada.

PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE

CORTE

Levante las ruedas pare el corte bajo y baje

las ruedas p_a el corte alto., ajuste la altura

de corte pare que se acomode a sus

requ[sltos. La posicibndel madio es la rnejor

p_ra la mayorla de los cdspedes.

•Para camb_arla altura de code, empuje la

palanca del _ustador hada la rueda. Mueva

la rueda hacia ardba o hacia abajo de modo

que se acomode a sus requisitos.

Aseg0rese que todas las ruedas quedan

iguelmente ajustades.

AVISO: El ajustador esta correctamente

colocado cuando las orejas de fa ptaca est&n

insertadas en el agujem del mango. Tamb_n,

los ajustes de 9 posiciones (si equipado)

permlten que el mango pueda ser movido

entre las orejas de laplaca.

PARA CONVERTIR LA SEGADORA

Su segadora rue enviada lista pare usarse

corno acolchadora de cape vegetal. Pare

convertida a una operacibn de ensacado:

• Levantar la puerta trasera de cortac_sped y

celocar los ganchos del armaz6n de la

recolectora de hierba en los pasadores del

quLciode la puerta.

• Pare pasar ala odercelbn de acolchamiento,

remover la recolectora de hierba y cerrar ia

puerta trasera.

_ORECAUCI(_N; No haga funolonar su

segadora sin el desviador de recortes o sin el

recogedor de cdsped, aprobades, an su lugar.

Nunca trate de operar la segadora cuanclo se

ha removido la puerta trasera o cuando estd

un poco abierta.

PARA VACIAR EL RECOGEDOR DE

C_SPED

1. Levar_e el recogeder de cSsped usando el

mango del bastidor.

2. Remueva el recogedor de c6sped, con los

recortes, de debajo del mango de la

segadora.

3. Vacie los recortes de la bolsa usando

tanto el mango del bastidor como dl de la

boise.

AVISO: No arrastre la bolsa cuando la vaele;

se producir_ un desgaste ionecesado.

ANTES DE HACER ARRANCAR EL

MOTOR

AGREGUE ACEITE

Su segadora rueenviada sin aceite en el

motor.El motor puede contener 20 oz. de

aceite. Para el tipay la calidad vea =MOTOR"

en la secci6n de las Mantenimento an este

manual.

1. Aseg_Jreseque la segadore es_e n_valada

y que el drea alrndedor det depdeito de

aceite est_ limpia.

2. Remuava la tapa del dep6sito de aceite dal

motory rellene basts la lines de Ileno en

6eta. Vacle el aceite lentamente. No lo liens

demaslade.

AVISO: Perrnita qua el aceite se aciente bien

en el motor pars una leotura exacta. Para leer

el nivel apropiado, apriete la tapa de1relleno

dal acalte de motor, remuavaJa pars Jeer la

variUamedidora del aceite.

3. Vuatva a instalar la tapa del depbsito dal

aceife y apd6tela.

• Revise el nive[de1acalte antes de cads uso.

Agregue aceite sJes necesado. Lleua basts

la lines de Ileno en la varilla indicadora de

nivel.

• Cambie el aceite despL_s de 25 horas de

operaci6n o una vez par temparada. Puade

neuasitar cambiar el aceite rods a menudo

cuando las condiciones son polvorosas o

SUCiaS.

AGREGUE GASOLINA

• Liens el estanque de combustible. Usa

gasolina regular, sin plomo, nueva y limpia

con el rninimo de 87 octanos. (El uso de

gasolina con p_omoauruantar_ los

depbsitos de bxido de plomo y carbono y se

reducir_ Jaduraci6n de la v_lvula). No

mezc]e M aceite con Jagasolina. Pars

asegurar que la gasolina utilizada sea

fresca compre estanques los euales

puedan ser otilizados durante los pnmeros

30 dias.

,_DVERTENCIA:La expedencia ha Jndicado

qua los combustibles mezclados con alcohol

(conocidos como gasohol, o el uso de etanol o

metanol) puaden atraer la humeded, la qua

conduce a la separacibn y fonnaalbn de

_cJdos durente el aJmacenarn_ento.La gasotina

acidica puede dafiar el sistema del cOmbL_-

tible de un motor durante el almacenamiento.

Para evitar los problemas con el motor, se

debe vablar el sistema del combustible antes

de guardarJopor un per/ode de 30 dlas o rnds.

Vacie el estanque dal combustible, hags

arrancar el motor y hdgalo funcionar basts

que las Ifneas del combustible y al carburador

queden vaclos. La pr_xima temporada use

combustible nuevo. Vea las Jnstruccionespars

Nunca tJse produntos de limpieza pars el

motor o pars el carburador en el estanque del

combustible puss se pueden prodecir dafios

_ermanentes.

PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTOR

AVISO: Debido a las capas protectoras dal

motor,una cantidad paquef_a de humo puade

estar presents durante el uso inicial del

producto y se debe considemr normal.

1. Pare hauar arrancar un motor frio, empuje

et cebador tres (3) veces antes de tratarlo.

Empuje firmemente. Este paso

nonnalmente no es necesario cuande se

hace arrancar un motor qua ya ha estado

funcionando por unos cuantos minutos.

2. Sujefe ta barra de controles que exigen la

presencia del operador abajo en el mango

y tire el mango dal arrancador

rdpidamente. No permita que el cord_ de]

arrancador se devuelva abruptamente,

PARA PARAR EL MOTOR

• Pars parar el motor, suatte la barra de

controles que exigen la presencia del

oparador.

AVISO: En climas rn_sfrfos puade qua sea

necesado repatir los pasos del cebado. En

climas rnds caJurososel cebar demasiado

puede producir el ahogo y el motor no va a

arrancar. Si se ahoga el motor espere unua

cuantos minutos antes de tratar de hacedo

arrancar y no repita los pasos dal cebade.

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR

• Bajo ciedas condiciones, tal como cesped

muy alto, puede ser necesado el elevar la

altura del corte pare reducir el esfuerzo

necesario pare empujar la segadora y para

evhar sobrecargar el motor, dejando

monlones de recodes de c6sped. Puede

que sea necesafio reducir la velocidad del

recorrido y/o haga funcionar la segadora

sobre el drea pot segunda vez.

• Pare un corte muy pesado, reduzca el

ancho del come pasando parcialmente pot

encima dal lugar antedormente cortado y

siegue lentarnente.

• Pare un mejot ensacado del c_sped y pare

la mayorfa de las condicionesde code, la

velocidad del motor debe ajualarse ala

poalcibn de rdpido.

• Cuando use una segadora con descarga

trasera en cdsped h_medo y pesado, los

montones del cdsped cortado puede que no

entren en el recogedor de cesped. Reduzca

]a valocidad del recorddo (valocided de

empuje) y/o haga funcionar la segadora

sobre el _rea por segunda vez.

• Si queda una hualla de comes en e] lado

derecho de una segadora con descarga

trasera, siegue en la direcci6n en que giran

las manillas del reloj, solapando un poco

para recaudar los recodes en la pr6xima

pasada.

• Los poros en los recogedores de cdsped

de te[a pueden Ilenarse con mugre y polvo

con el uso y los recogedores mcaudardn

menos cesped. Para evitar _ste, rocie el

recogedor con la rnanguera de agua

regularmente y dejalo secarse antes de

usado.

• Mantenga la parts supedor dal molor,

alrededor dal arrancador, despejada y sin

recodes de c_sped y paja. Esto ayudard el

flujodel aim del motory extendera su

duracibn.

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR Y

ACOLCHAR

IMPORTANTE: Pare obtener el mejor

rendimiento mantenga la caja de la segadora

sin acumulacion de cesped y basura. Vea

"LIMP]ET_.A"in la seccion Mantenimiento de

este manual.

• La cuchilla acolchadora especial vaa volver

a cortar los recortes de c_sped muchas

veces, y los reduce en tamat3o, de modo

que si se caen en el c6sped se van a

dispersar entre dste y no se van anotar.

Tarnbi_n, el cdsped acalchade se va a

deshacer rdpidarnente entregando

substancias nutritivas para el cesped.

Siempre acolcha con la velocidad del motor

(cuchilla) mds alia, pues asl se obtendrd la

mejor accibn de reco,-tede 1as cuchillas.

• Evlte cotter el crisped cuando est_ rnojado.

El cesped rnojado tiende a format montones

e interfiere con la acci6n de acolchado. La

major hora para sager el cesped es

temprano en la tarde. A esa hora dste se ha

secado y el area reci_n cortada no quedard

expuesta al sal direclo.

• Para obtener los mejores resultados, ajuste

la altura del corte de la segadora de mode

que dsta code solarnente el tercio superior

de las hojas de cesped. En el caso de que

el c_sped haya crecido demasiado, puede

ser necesario el elevar la altora dal corte

para reducir el esfuerzo necesario pare

empujar la segadora y para evitar

sobrecargar el motor, dejando montones de

recortes de cesped. Pare un acalchamiento

muy pesado, reduzca el ancha del corte

pasando por encima del lugar antefiormenle

cortado y siegue lentamente.

• Ciedos tipos de c_sped y sus condiciones

pueden exigir que un _,rea tenga que ser

acolchada pot segunda vez para esconder

completamente los recortes. Cuando se

haga el segundo corte, siegue atravesado o

en forma perpendicular ala pasada dal

primer come.

• Camble su patr6n de corte de semana a

semana. Siegue de node a sur una semana

y luego cambie de este a oeste la _6xime

semana. Esto evitard que el cdsped se

enrede y cambie de direccibn.

RECOMENDAClONES GENERALES

La garantla de esta segadora no cubre los

art[culos que han estado suje'_osal abuso o a

la negligencia del operador. Pare recibir todo el

valor de la g_rantia, el operador tieR° que

mantener la segadora seg_n las instrucciones

descritas en este manual.

Hay algunos ajustes que se tienen que hacer

en forma ped{_lica para poder mantener su

unidad adecuadamente.

Todos los ajustes en la seccidn de Sewicio y

Ajustes de este manual tienen que ser

revisados por Io rnenos un vez por cada

temporada.

• Una vez al aSo, cambie la bujla, limpie o

cambie el elemento del filtro de air° y revise

sila cuchi[la estd desgastada. Una bujla

nueva y un elemento del filtro de aim limpio/

nuevo aseguran la mezcla de air°-

combustible adecu_da y ayudan a que su

motor funcione mejor y que dure rods.

• Siga e_programa de mantenimiento eneste

m_'3tJal.

• Mantenga las Ilantas sin gasoline, aceite o

substancias qufmicas pare control de

insectos que pueden daRar la goma.

• Evite los tocones, las piedras, las gdetas

profundas, los objetos afilados y otros

peligros que pueden daRar a las Ilantas.

CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLA

Pare obtener los mejores resultados, la

cuchilla de la segedora tienen que mantenerse

afilada. Cambie la cuchilLadoblada o daSada.

PARA REMOVER LA CUCHILLA

1. Desconecte el alambre de la bujla y

p6ng_lo en doede no pueda entrar en

contacto con dsta.

2. Haga descansar la segadora en su lado.

Asegdrese que el filtro de aire y que el

carburador queden mirando hacia arriba.

3. Use un I_oque de rnadera entre la cuchilla

y ta caja de la segadom para evitar que la

cuchilla gire cuando se le quite el derno.

AVISO: Proteja sus rnanos con guantes y/o

envuelve la cuchilla con una tela gruesa.

4. Remueva el pemo de la cuchilla gir_ndolo

en el sentido contrario en que giran tas

manit/as de/re/oj.

5. Remueva la cuehHlay los art[culos de

ferreterla edjuntadores (el perno, la

arandela de seguridad y la amndela

endurecida).

AVISO: Remueva el adaptador de la cuchillay

revise el cubo intedor de la ranura del

adaptador de la cuchilla.La ranura tiene que

ester en buenas condiciones para que

funcione en forma edecuada, Cambie el

adaptador si estd daf_ado,

PARA CAMBIAR LA CUCHILLA

1, Ponga el adaptedor de la cuchilta on el

cigue_al det motor.Asegt_rese que la

ranura del adaptador y que el chavetero

del cigueSal estdn alineados.

2, Ponga la cuchilla en el adaptador de dsta

alineando los dos (2) agujeros en la

cuch_llacon las salientes elevadas en el

adaptador,

3. Asegurese de que el borde de salida de la

cuch_lla(opuesto al borde afilado) est6

hacia ardba ha_ta el motor.

4. Instale el perno de la cuchilla con la

arandela de seguddad y ta arandela

endurecida en el adaptador de la cuchilla y

el cigueRaL

5. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchilla

y la caja de la segadora y apdete el pemo

de la cuchilla gir_ndolo en el sentido en

que giran las rnanillas del reloj.

• La toreldn para apretar recomendada es de

35 - 40 pies libras.

IMPORTANTE: El pamo de la cuchLIlaes

clase 8 tratado a calo.

PARA AFILAR LA CUCHILLA

AVISO: No recomendamos el afilar la cuchilla

- pero si Io hace, asegOrese de que quede

balanceada.

Se tiene que tener cuidado de mantenerla

balanceada. Una cuchilla que no estz_

balanceada va a preducir eventualmente daRo

en la segadora o en el motor.

• La cuchilla puede afilarse con una itma o en

una rueda rectificadora. No trate de afilada

mientras se encuentra en la segadora.

•Para reviser el balance de la cuchilla, clave

un clavo en una riga o en la pared. Deje

alrededor de una pulgada de un clavo recto

expuesto. Ponga el agujero central de la

cuchilla sobre la cabeza del clavo. Si la

cuchilla estd balanceada depa parmanecer

en la posicibn hedzontaL Si cualquiera de

los extremos de la cuchilla se mueve hacia

abajo, afile el extremo pasado hasta que

esta quede balanceada.

RECOGEDOR DE ClaSPED

• El recogedor de c_sped puede ser rociado

con el agua de la manguera pero tiene que

es_ar seco cuando se vaya a usar.

• Revise su recogedor de c_sped a menudo

para venticar si est,. da_ado o deteriorado.

Se va a desgastar con el uso normal. Si se

necesita cambiar el recogedor, cambielo

solamente por uno que sea apmbado por el

tabdcarde. De el nOrnerodel modelo de la

segadora cuando Io ordene.

MOTOR

LUBRICACI(_N

Use solarnente aceite de detergente de alta

selidad clasificado con la clasificacibn SF-SJ

de servicio API. Seleccione la calidad de

viscosidad SAE segL_nsu temperatura de

operaci6n esperada.

AVISO: A pesar de que los ace_tesde

multiviscosidad(5W30, 10W30, etc.) mejoran

el arranque en clima frio, estos aceites de

multiviscosidad van ha aumentar el consumo

de aceite cuando se usan en temperaturas

sobre 32° F Revise el nivel del aceite del

motor m_s a rnenudo, para eVrtar un posible

daSo en el motor, debido a que no tiene

suficiente aceite.

Cambie el aceite despu_s de 25 horas de

opereci6n o po_ Io menos una vez al aSo si la

segadora se utiliza menos 25 horas el aSo.

Revise el nivel del aceite del carter antes de

arrancar el motor y despues de cada cinco (5)

horas de uso continuado. Apriete el tapbn del

aceite en forma segura cada vez que revise el

nivel del aceite.

PAPA CAMBIAR EL ACEITE DEL MOTOR

AVISO: Antes de inclinar la segadora para

drenar el aceite, drene el tanque de combus-

tible haciendo correr el motor basra queef

tanque este vacio.

1. Desconecte el alambre de la bujla y

pbngalo de modo que no pueda entrar en

contacto con dsta,.

2. Remueva la tapa del depd_ito del aceite;

dejela a un lado en una supedicie limpia.

3. Incline la cortadora de cdsped por este

costado tal como se rnuestra y purgue el

aceite en un recipiente id6neo. Mueva la

segadora de arras para adelante para

remover todo el aceite que se haya

quedado atrapado dentro del motor.

4. Umpie todo el aceite dertamado en la

segadora yen el lad<)del motor.

FILTRO DE AIRE

Su motor no funcionar_ en forma adecuada y

puede sufrir da6os sise usa un filtro de aire

sucio.

Cambie el fil_rode aire cada a6o o despu_s de

cada 100 horas de operacibn, y m_s a

menudo si siega en condiciones muy

polvorosas o sudas. No lave et fifiro de aire.

PARA CAMBIAR EL FILTRO DE AIRE

1. Remueva el filtro de aire gir_ndolo en el

sentido en que girela de 1asmanillas del

reloj para apretada, hasta el tope, y retfrelo

del collar.

2. Rernueva el firm de la parte interior de la

cubierta.

3. Limpie la parte interior de ta cubierta y el

collar para remover toda acumulaci_ de

mugre.

4.. Inserte el filtro nuevo en la cubierta.

5. Ponga la cubierta del filtm de aire denim

del collar alineando la oreja con la ranura.

6. Empuje ]a cubierta hacia adentro y grrela

en el sentido contrario de las manillas clel

reloj para apretada.

LIMPIEZA

IMPORTANTE: Para obtener el mejor

rendimiento, mantenga la caja de la segadom

sin acumulacion de cesped y basura, Limpin la

parte de abajo de su segadora despues de

cada uso.

_PRECAUCI6N: Desconecte el alambre de

la bujla y p6ngalo en donde no pueda entrar

en contanto con 6sta.

• Lirnpie la parte infedor de su segadora

raspdndola pare remover la acumufacibn de

c6sped y basura.

• Limpie el motor a menudo para evitar que

se acumule la basura. Un motortapedo

funciona mds caliente y se acorta su

duraci6n.

• Mantenga las superficies pulidas y las

ruedas sin gasolina, aceite, etc.

• No recomendamos el uso de una manguera

de jardln para limpiar la segadora a menos

que el sistema eldc_rico,el silenciador, el

filtm de aire y el carburador estdn tapados

para evitar que les entre el agua. El agua en

el motor puede acortar la duraci6n de 6ste.

_,PRECAUCK_N: Antes de dar calquier

servico o de hacer ajustes:

1. Suette la barra de control y pare el motor.

2. AsegGrese qua la cuchiila y qua todas ]as

partes movibles se hayan detenido

completamente.

3. Desconente el alambre de la bujia y

SEGADORA

DESVIADOR TRASERO

Se proporciona un desviador trasero, adjunto

entre las ruedas lraseras de su segadora,

para reducir a un mloimo la poelbindad qua

objetos sean tanzados hacia afuera de la parte

trasem de la segadora, en la posicibn en

donde se encuentra el operador. Si se daha el

desviador debe cambiarse.

TPARA AJUSTAR EL MANGO

El mango de su segadora cuenta con tres (3)

posielones de altura - aj_stelo a la altura qua

le acomode.

• Presione las extremidades inferiores del

mando inferioruna en contra una de la otra

hasta que la pinza deemango pueda ser

insertada en uno de los tres agujeros del

controlde la altura.

PARA MONTAR Y ADJUNTAR EL

RECOGEDOR DE C_SPED

1. Ponga el bastidor del recogedor de cesped

en la bolsa del cdsped con la parte rigida

de la bolsa en la parte inferior.Asngurese

qua el mango del bastidor estd en el

exterior de la pade superior de ta bolsa.

2. Deslice los sujetadores de vinilo sobre el

bastidor.

AVISO: Si los sujetadores de vtnilo estdn muy

duros, mdtalos en agua caliente por elgunos

rninutos.Si se moja la bolsa, dejela qua se

seque antes de usarla.

_1,PRECAUCI(_N: No haga funcionar su

segadora sin el desviador _e recortes o sin el

recogedor de cdsped, aprobados, en su

lugar. Nunca trate de operar la segadora

cuando se ha removido la puerta trasera o

cuando est_ un poco abierta.

VELOCIDAD DEL MOTOR

La velocidad del motor ha sido ajustada en la

fdbdca. No trate de aumentar la velocidad del

motor puss se pueden producir leslones

personales. SI cree qua el motor est_

funclonando demasiado r_oido o demasiado

lento, Ileve su segadora a contaclo con su

centro de ewiclo Sears o con un otro centro

de servido cuelificado para repamrla o

ajustarla.

CARBURADOR

Su carburador tiene un chon'o principalfijo no

ajustable para controlar la mezcla. Si su motor

no est_ funclonando en forma adecuada

debido a problemas qua se sospecha vienen

del carburador, Ileve su segadora a contacto

con su centro de servicio Sears o con on otto

centro de servicio cualificado para reparada y/

o ajus_rla.

IMPORTANTIE: Nunca manipule el regulador

del motor, el qua ha sido ajustado en la fzibnca

para la velocidad del motor adecuada. Puede

ser peligroso hacer funcionar el motor a una

velocidad por sobre el ajuste de alta velocidad

de la fdbdca. Si cree qua la velccidad alta

regulada del motor necesita ajuste,conlacto

con su centro de sewicio Sears o con un otro

centro de sen,'iclo cuelificado, el que cuenta

con el equipo adecuado y la experiencia para

30hacer los ajustes necesarios.

Inrnediataruante prepare su segadora para el

almacenamiento el final de cada temporada o

si la unidad no se va a usar gor 30 dlas o

m_ts.

SEGADORA

Cuando se va a guardar la segadora por

cierto periodo de tiemgo, Ifmpiela

cuidedosameote, remueva toda la mugre, la

grasa, las hojas, etc. Gu&rdela en un drea

limpia y seca.

2. Lubr[quela segdn se muestra en la

secci6n de Mantenimento de este manual.

3. AsegQrese de qua todas las tuercas y

clavijas y todos los pemos y tornitlos est_n

apretados en forma segura. Inspeccione

las partes que se mueven para verificar si

est&n daSadas, quebradas o desgastadas.

C&mbielas si es necesado.

4. Retoque todas 1as supedicies que esten

oxidadas o con la pintura picada; use una

lijaantes de pintar.

MANGO

Puede doblar el mango de su segadora para el

almacenarblento.

1. Suelte las dos (2) manillas del mango en

cada lade del mango superior y permita

qua el mango se doble hacia detras.

2. Apdete los extremos inferiores del mango

inferior entre si hasta que el mango infedor

quede separado del puntal del mango,

luego mu_valo hacia adelante.

• Cuando prepare su mango a partirde la

posici6n de elmacenamiento, el mango

infedor nesecitara cerrado manuelmente

para la posicibn de sega.

IMPORTANTE: Cuando doble el mango para

el elmacenamiento o el transporte, asegL_rese

qua Io doble segOn se muestra o purde dahar

los cables de control.

MOTOR

SISTEMA DE COMBUSTIBLE

IMPORTANTE: ES importante evitar que se

formen depositos de coma en parles

fundament_les del sistema de combustible

tales como el carburador, eLfiltro del combus-

tible, la manguera del combustible o en el

estanque durante el almacenamiento. La

exdedencia tambien indica qua los combus-

tibles tambien indica que los combustibles

mezclados con alcohol (conocido como

gasoho] o que tienen etanol o metanol) puaden

atraer humedad, Io qua conduce a la

separacion y a la formacion de acidos durante

el almacenamiento. La gaselina acidica puede

danar el sistema de combustible de un motor

durante el pedodo de almacenamiento.

1. Drene el estanque de combustible.

2. Haga arrancar el motor y d6jelo fuacionar

basra que las lineas del combustible y el

carburador est6n vac[os.

• Nunca use los productos para limp_eza del

carburador o del motor en el estanque de

combustible puss se pueden producir

daSos permanentes.

• Use combustible nuevo la pr6xima

temporada.

AVISO: El estabiflzador de combustible es una

altemativa aceptable para reducir a un mlnimo

la formacibn de depdeitos de gorna en el

combustible durante el periodo de

almacenamiento. Agregua estabilizador a la

gasolina en el estanque de combustible o en el

envase para el almacena-mieoto. Siempre siga

la proporci6n de mazcla que se encuentra en

el envase del estabilizador. Haga luncionar el

motor por Io menos 10 minutos despuds de

agregar el estabilizador, para permitir qua este

Ilegue al carburador. No drene la gasolina del

estanque de gasolina y el carburador si se

estd usando estabilizador de combustible.

ACEITE DEL MOTOR

Drene el aceite (con el motor celiente) y

cdmbielo con aceite de motor limpio. (Vea

"MOTOR" en la seccide de MaotenimJento de

este manual.)

CILINDRO

1. Remueva la bujfa.

2. Vac[e 29 ml (una onza) de acelte a tmvds

del agujem de la bujla en el ci[indro.

3. Tire la manilla de arranque lentamente

unas cuantas veces para distribuir el

aceite.

4. Cambie por una bujia nueva.

OTROS

• No guarde la gasolina de una temporade a

la otra.

• Camb[e el envase de la gasolina si se

empieza a oxidar. La oxidaci6n y/o la mugre

en su gasotina p_oducirdn problemas.

• Si es posible, guarde su unidad en un

recinto cerrado y cdbmla para pmtegeda

contra el poivo y la mugm.

• Cub_a su unidad con un torro protector

adecuado que no retenga la humedad. No

use pldstico. El pldsticono puede respirar, Io

que permile la formaci(_nde condensaci6n,

Io que producird la oxidacibn de su unidad.

IMPORTANTE: Nunca cubra la segadora

mientras el motor y las areas de escape to

davia estan calientes.

_PRECAUCI(_N: Nunca aJrnacene la

segadom con gasolina en el estanque dentro

de un edificio en donde los gases pueden

alcanzar una llama expuesta o una chispa.

Permita que se enfde el motorantes de alma-

cenade en algun recinto cermdo.
