DECK WASH
Yourmower'sdeckis equippedwitha waterport on its surfaceas part
of its deckwash system.
Usethe deck washto rinsegrassclippingsfromthe deck'sunderside
andpreventthe buildupd corrosivechemicals.Completethe following
stepsAFTEREACHMOWING:
1. Pushthemowertoa level,clearspotonyourlawn,nearenoughfor
yourgardenhoseto reach.Removethe grassbagif attached.
house,garage,parkedcars,etc.
2. Threadthe hosecoupler(packagedwithyourmower'sOperator's
Manual)onto theendof your gardenhose.
3. Attachthehosecouplertothewaterportonyourdeck'ssurface.See
Figure19.
4. Turnthewateron.
5. Start the engineas describedin the Operationsection.
6. Runtheenginefora minimumoftwo minutes,aNowingtheunderside
of the cuttingdeckto thoroughlyrinse.
7. Releasebladecontrolto stopthe engineandblade.
8. Turnthewateroffanddetachthehosecouplerfromthewaterporton
yourdeck'ssurface.
Aftercleaningyourdeck, restartthe mower.Keepthe engineand
bladerunningfor a minimumof two minutes,allowingthe undersideof
the cuttingdeck to thoroughlydry.
BLADE CARE
When removingthe cutting bladefor sharpeningor replacement,
protectyour handswith a pair of heavyglovesor use a heavyrag to
holdthe blade.
Periodicallyinspectthe bladeadapterfor cracks,especiallyif you
strikea foreignobject. Replacewhennecessary.Followthe steps
belowfor bladeservice.
1. Disconnectsparkplugbootfrom sparkplug.Turnmoweronitsside
makingsurethatthe air filter and the carburetorarefacingup.
2. Removetheboltandthebladebellsupportwhichholdthebladeand
the bladeadaptertothe enginecrankshaft.SeeFigure20.
3. Removebladeandadapterfrom the crankshaft.
4. Removebladefromtheadapterfortestingbalance.Balancetheblade
ona roundshaftscrewdriverto check.Removemetalfromthe
heavysideuntil it balancesevenly.Whensharpeningthe blade,
followthe originalangle of grind.Grindeachcuttingedgeequally
to keepthe bladebalanced.
Anunbalancedblade willcause excessivevibrationwhenrotatingat I
highspeeds.It maycause damageto mowerandcouldbreakcausing

5. Lubricatetheenginecrankshaftandthe innersurfaceof the blade
adapterwithlightoil. Slidethe bladeadapterontothe engine
crankshaft.Placethe bladeon the adaptersuchthatthe sideof
the blade marked"Bottom"(orwithpart number)facestheground
whenthe moweris in the operatingposition.Makesurethatthe
bladeis alignedand seatedon thebladeadapterflanges.See
Figure19inset.
6. Placebladebellsupporton theblade.Alignnotchesonthe blade
bellsupportwithsmallholesin blade.
7. Replacehex boltandtightenhex boltto torque:450in. Ibs.rain.,
600 in. Ibs.max.
Toensuresafeoperationof yourmower,periodicallycheckthe blade
boltfor correcttorque.
