CRAFTSMAN FULL WARRANTY

FOR TWO YEARS from the date of purchase, all non-expendable parts of this ridingequipment are

warranted against any defects in material or workmanship. A defective non-expendable part will

receive free in-home repair or replacement if repair is impossible.

FOR FIVE YEARS from the date of purchase, the frame and front axle of this riding equipment are

warranted against any defects in material or workmanship. A defective frame or front axle will receive

free in-home repair or replacement if repair is impossible.

FOR 90 DAYS from the date of purchase, the battery (an expendable part) of this riding equipment

is warranted against any defects in material or workmanship (our testing proves that it willnot hold a

charge). A defective battery will receive free in-home replacement.

ADDITIONAL LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY on CAST IRON FRONT AXLE (if equipped)

FOR AS LONG AS IT IS USED by the original owner after the fi_thyear from the date of purchase, the

cast iron front axle (if equipped) of this riding equipment iswarranted against any defects in material or

workmanship. With proofof purchase, a defective cast front axle will receive free in-home replacement.

This warranty covers ONLY defects in material and workmanship. Warranty coverage does NOT

include:

• Expendable parts (except battery) that can wear out from normal use within the warranty period,

includingbut not limitedto blades, spark plugs, air cleaners, belts, and oil filters.

• Standard maintenance servicing, oil changes, ortune-ups.

• Tire replacement or repair caused by punctures from outside objects, such as nails, thorns,

stumps, or glass.

• Tire or wheel replacement or repair resultingfrom normal wear, accident,or improper operation or

maintenance.

• Repairs necessary because of operator abuse, including but not limited to damage caused by

towing objects beyond the capability of the riding equipment, impacting objects that bend the

frame, axle assembly or crankshaft, or over-speedingthe engine.

• Repairs necessary because of operator negligence, including but not limited to, electrical and

mechanical damage caused by improper storage, failure to use the proper grade and amount

of engine oil, failure to keep the deck clear of flammable debris, or failure to maintain the riding

equipment according to the instructionscontained inthe operator's manual.

• Engine (fuel system) cleaning or repairs caused by fuel determinedto be contaminated or oxidized

(stale). In general, fuel should be used within30 days of its purchase date.

• Normal deteriorationand wear of the exterior finishes, or productlabel replacement.

This warrantygives you specific legal rights, and you mayalso have otherrights which vary from

stateto state.

_,DANGER: This cutting machine is capable of amputating hands and feet and

throwing objects. Failure to observe the following safety instructions could result

in serious injury or death.

_.WARNING: In order to prevent acciden-

tal starting when setting up, transporting,

adjusting or making repairs, always discon-

nect spark plug wire and place wire where

it cannot contact spark plug.

_WARNING: Do not coast down a hill in

neutral, you may lose control of the tractor.

_:)AWARNING: Tow only the attachments

that are recommended by and comply with

specifications of the manufacturer of your

tractor. Use common sense when towing.

Operate only at the lowest possible speed

when on a slope. Too heavy of a load, while

on a slope, is dangerous. Tires can lose

traction with the ground and cause you to

lose control of your tractor.

_WARNING: Engine exhaust, some of

itsconstituents, and certain vehicle compo-

nents contain or emit chemicals known to

the State of California to cause cancer and

birth defects or other reproductive harm.

_WARNING: Battery posts, terminals and

related accessories contain lead and lead

compounds, chemicals knowntotheState of

California to cause cancer and birth defects

or other reproductive harm. Wash hands

after handling.

!. GENERAL OPERATION

. Read, understand, and follow all instruc-

tions on the machine and in the manual

before starting.

• Do not put hands or feet near rotating

parts or under the machine. Keep clear

of the discharge opening at all times.

- Only allow responsible adults, who are

familiar with the instructions, to operate

the machine,

• Clear the area of objects such as rocks,

toys, wire, etc., which could be picked

up and thrown by the blades.

- Be sure the area is clear of bystanders

before operating. Stop machine ffanyone

enters the area.

• Never carry passengers.

• Do not mow inreverse unless absolutely

necessary. Always lookdown and behind

before and while backing.

• Never direct discharged materialtoward

anyone. Avoid discharging material

against a wall or obstruction. Material

may ricochet back toward the operator.

Stop the blades when crossing gravel

surfaces.

• Do not operate machine without the en-

tire grass catcher, discharge chute, or

othersafety devices inplace and working.

- Slow down before turning.

• Never leave a running machine unat-

tended. Always turn off blades, set

parking brake, stop engine, and remove

keys before dismounting,

• Disengage blades when not mowing.

Shut off engine and walt for a!l parts to

come to a complete stop before cleaning

the machine, removing the grass catcher,

or unclogging the discharge chute.

• Operate machine onlyin daylight orgood

artificial light.

• Do not operatethe machine while under

the influence of alcohol or drugs,

• Watch for traffic when operating near or

crossing roadways.

• Use extra care when loading or unloading

the machine into a trailer or truck.

• Always wear eye protection when operat-

ing machine.

• Data indicates that operators, age 60

years and above, are involved in a large

percentage of riding mower-related inju-

ries. These operators should evaluate

their ability to operate the riding mower

safely enough to protect themselves and

others from serious injury.

• Followthe manufacturer's recommenda-

tion for wheelweights or counterweights.

° Keep machine free of grass, leaves or

other debris build-up which can touch hot

exhaust/engine parts and burn. Do not

allow the mower to plow leaves or other

debris which can cause build-up to oc-

cur. Clean any oil or fuel spillage before

operating or storing the machine. Allow

machine to cool before storage.

il, SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor related to loss of

control and tip-over accidents, which can

result insevere injuryor death. Operation

on all slopes requires extra caution, ff you

cannot backupthe slopeor ifyoufeel uneasy

on it, do not mow it.

• Mow up and down slopes, not across.

• Watch for holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, or

other hidden objects. Uneven terrain

could overturnthe machine. Tall grass

can hide obstacles.

• Choose a lowground speed so that you

will not have to stop or shiftwhile on the

sJope.

• Do not mow on wet grass. Tires may lose

traction.

Always keep the machine in gear when

going down slopes. Do notshift to neutral

and coast downhill,

- Avoid starting, stopping, or turning on a

slope, lfthetires losetraction, disengage

the blades and proceed slowly straight

down the slope.

• Keep all movement on the slopes slow

and gradual. Do not make sudden

changes in speed or direction, which

could cause the machine to roll over,

• Use extra care while operating machine

with grass catchers orother attachments;

they can affect the stability of the ma-

Chine. Do no use on steep slopes.

• Do not try to stabilize the machine by

putting your foot on the ground.

• Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches,

or embankments. The machine could

suddenly roll over if a wheel is over the

edge or if the edge caves in.

111.CHILDREN

_WARNING: CHILDRENCAN BE INJURED

BYTHISEQUIPMENTThe American Acade-

my of Pediatrics recommends that children

be a minimum of 12 year of age before op-

erating a pedestrian controlled lawn mower

and a minimum of 16 years of age before

operating a riding lawn mower.

Tragic accidents can occur if the operator

is not alert to the presence of children.

Children are often attracted to the machine

and the mowing activity. Never assume

that children will remain where you last

saw them.

• Keep children out of the mowing area

and inthe watchfulcare of a responsible

adult other than the operator.

• Be alert and turn machine off if a child

enters the area.

• Before and while backing, look behind

and down for small children.

• Never carrychildren, even withthe blades

shutoff, Theymay fatl offand beseriously

injured or interfere with safe machine

operation. Children who have been given

rides in the past maysuddenly appear in

the mowing area for another ride and be

run over or backed over by the machine.

• Never allow children to operate the ma-

chine.

• Use extra care when approaching blind

corners, shrubs, trees, or other objects

that may block your view of a child.

IV, TOWING

• Tow only with a machine that has a hitch

designed for towing. Do not attach towed

equipment except at the hitch point.

- Followthe manufacturer's recommenda-

tion for weight limits for towed equipment

and towing on slopes.

• Never allow children or others in or on

towed equipment,

• On slopes, theweight ofthetowed equip-

ment may cause loss of traction and loss

of control,

• Travel slowly and allow extra distance to

stop.

V, SERVICE

SAFE HANDLING OF GASOLINE

TOavoid personal injury or property dam-

age, use extreme care in handling gasoline.

Gasoline is extremely flammable and the

vapors are explosive.

° Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes,

and other sources of ignition.

• Use only approved gasoline container,

• Never remove gas cap or add fuel with

the engine running. Allow engine to cool

before refueling.

• Never fuel the machine indoors.

° Neverstorethemachineorfuetcontainer

where there is an open flame, spark, or

pilot tight such as on a water heater or

other appliances.

- Never fill containers inside a vehicle or

on a truck or trailer bed with plastic liner.

Always place containers on the ground

away from your vehicle when filling.

• Removegas-poweredequipmentfrom

thetruckortrailerandrefuelitonthe

ground.Ifthisisnotpossible,thenrefuel

suchequipmentwithaportablecontainer,

ratherthanfromagasolinedispenser

nozzle.

, Keepthenozzleincontactwiththerim

ofthefueltankorcontaineropeningat

alltimesuntilfuelingiscomplete.Donot

useanozzlelock-opendevice.

Iffuelisspilledonclothing,changecloth-

ingimmediately.

• Neveroverfillfueltank.Replacegascap

andtightensecurely.

GENERAL SERVICE

, Never operate machine in aclosed area.

- Keep all nuts and bolts tightto be sure the

equipment is in safe working condition.

• Never tamper with safetydevices. Check

their proper operation regularly.

• Keep machine free of grass, leaves, or

other debris build-up. Clean oil or fuel

spillage and remove any fuel-soaked de-

bris. Atlow machineto cool before storing.

• If you strike a foreign object, stop and

inspect the machine. Repair,if necessary,

before restarting.

• Never make any adjustments or repairs

with the engine running.

Check grass catcher components andthe

discharge chute frequently and replace

with manufacturer's recommended parts,

when necessary.

• Mowerbladesaresharp. Wraptheblade

or wear gloves, and use extra caution

when servicing them.

• Checkbrakeoperationfrequently. Adjust

and service as required.

• Maintain or replace safetyand instruction

labels, as necessary.

• Be sure the area is clear of bystanders

before operating. Stop machine if anyone

enters the area.

- Never carry passengers.

• Do not mow in reverse unless absolutely

necessary. Always look down and behind

before and while backing.

• Never carry children, even with the

blades shut off. They may fall off and

be seriously injured or interfere with safe

machine operation, Children who have

been given rides inthe past may suddenly

the machine.

adult other than the operator.

• Be alert and turn machine off if a child

• Choose a low ground speed so that you

will not have to stop or shift while on the

slope.

• Avoid starting, stopping, or turning on a

slope. Ifthetires Iosetraction, disengage

the blades and proceed slowly straight

down the slope.

• If machine stops while going uphill,

disengage blades, shift into reverse and

back down slowly.

• Do notturn on slopes unless necessary,

and then, turn slowly and gradually

downhill, if possible.

• When loading or unloadingthis machine,

do not exceed the maximum recom-

mended operation angle of 15°.

TO REMOVE TRACTOR FROM

UNPACK CARTON

- Remove all accessible loose parts and

parts cartons from carton.

• Cut along dotted lines on all four pan-

els of carton. Remove end panels and

lay side panels fiat.

• Check for any additional loose parts or

cartons and remove.

1. Lift seat to raised position.

NOTE: If this battery is put intoservice after

month and year indicated on label (label is

located between terminals) charge battery

for minimum of one hourat 6-10 amps, (See

ADJUST SEAT

1. Sit in seat.

2. Liftup adjustment fever (A) and slide seat

until a comfortable position is reached

which allows you to press clutch/brake

pedal all the way down.

3, Release lever to lock seat in position.

followtoremovethetractorfromtheskid.

WARNING: Before starting, read, un-

derstand and follow all instructions in the

Operation section of this manual. Be sure

tractor is in a well-ventilated area, Be sure

the area in front of tractor is clear of other

people and objects.

TO ROLL TRACTOR OFF SKID (See

Operation section for location and

function of controls)

1. Raise attachment lift lever to its highest

position.

2. Release parking brake by depressing

clutch/brake pedal.

3. Place freewheel control in "transmission

disengaged position" (See "TO TRANS-

PORT" in the Operation section of this

manual).

4. Roll tractor forward off skid.

5. Remove banding holding the deflector

shield up against tractor.

Continue with the instructions that follow,

CHECK TIRE PRESSURE

The tires on yourtractorwere overinflatedat

the factory for shipping purposes. Correct

tire pressure is important for best cutting

performance.

• Reduce tire pressure to PSi shown on

tires.

CHECK DECK LEVELNESS

For best cutting results, mower housing

should be properly leveled. See "TO LEVEL

MOWER" in the Service and Adjustments

section of this manual.

CHECK FOR PROPER POSITION OF

ALL BELTS

See the figures that are shown for replacing

motion and mower blade drive belts in the

Service andAdjustments sectionofthisman-

uaLVerify that the belts are routed correctly,

CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM

After you learn how to operate yourtractor,

check to see that the brake is operating

properly. See "TO CHECK BRAKE" in the

Service and Adjustments section of this

manual,

Before driving tractor, be sure freewheel

control is in "transmission engaged"

While learning howto use your tractor,pay ex-

tra attention to the following important items:

j Engine oil is at proper level.

Fueltank isfilled withfresh, clean, regular

unleaded gasoline.

Become familiar with all controls, their

location and function. Operate them

Be sure brake system is in safe operating

condition.

Reverse Operation System (ROS)are

working properly (See the Operation and

READ THIS MANUAL AND SAFETY RULES BEFORE OPERATING "YOURTRACTOR

Compare the illustrations with your tractor to familiarize yourself withthe locations of

various controls and adjustments. Save this manual for future reference.

Our tractors conform to the applicable safety standards of the

American National Standards Institute.

(A) ATTACHMENT LIFT LEVER - Used to

raise and lower the mower or other attach-

ments mounted to your tractor,

(B) CLUTCH!BRAKE PEDAL - Used for

declutching and braking the tractor and

starting the engine,

pedal into the brake position.

(D) THRO'rrLE!CHOKE CONTROL- Used

for starting and controllingengine speed.

(E) ATTACHMENT CLUTCH LEVER- Used

to engage the mower blades, or other attach-

merits mounted to your tractor.

(F) IGNITION SWITCH - Used for starting

and stopping the engine.

(G) REVERSE OPERATION SYSTEM

(ROS) "ON" POSITION - Allows operation

of mower or other powered attachmentwhite

(H) LIGHT SWITCH - Turns the headlights

on and off.

(J) MOTION CONTROL LEVER - Selects

the speed and direction of tractor.

(M) FREEWHEEL CONTROL- Disengages

transmission for pushing orslowly towing the

tractor with the engine off.

The operaUon of any tractor can result in foreign objects thrown into

the eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. Always wear safety

glasses or eye shields while operating your tractor or performing any

adjustments or repairs. We recommend standard safety glasses or a

wide vision safety mask worn over spectacles.

HOW TO USE YOUR TRACTOR

TO SET PARKING BRAKE

Your tractor is equipped with an operator

presence sensing switch. When engine is

running, any attempt bythe operator to leave

the seat without first setting the parking brake

will shut off the engine.

1. Depress clutch/brake pedal (B) all the

way down and hold.

NOTE: Under certain conditions when tractor

is standing idle with the engine running, hot

engine exhaust gases may cause "brown-

ing" of grass. To eliminate this possibility,

always stop engine when stopping tractor

on grass areas.

TO ADJUST MOWER CUTTING HEIGHT

The position of the attachment lift lever (A)

determines the cutting height.

TO ADJUST GAUGE WHEELS

Gauge wheels are properly adjusted when

they are slightly off the ground when mower

is at the desired cutting height in operating

position. Gauge wheels then keep the deck

in proper position to help prevent scalping

in most terrain conditions.

NOTE: Adjust gauge wheels with tractor on

a flat level surface.

1. Adjust mower to desired cutting height

(See "TO ADJUST MOWER CUTTING

HEIGHT" in this section of manual).

2. With mower indesired height of cut posi-

tion, gauge wheels should be assembled

so they are slightly off the ground. Inst_l]

gaugewhee! in appropriate hole. Tighten

securely.

3, Repeat for alt, installing gauge wheel in

same adjustment hole.

• Put attachment lift lever in desired cutting

height slot.

• Slidepointertab (T)todesired cutting height

as a reminder for next time you mow.

The cutting height range is approximately 1"

to 4". The heights are measured from the

ground tothe bladetip withthe engine notrun-

ning. These heights are approximateand may

vary depending upon soil conditions, height

of grass and types of grass being mowed.

• The average lawn should be cut to ap-

proximately 2-1/2" during the cool season

and to over 3" during hot months. For

healthier and better looking lawns, mow

often and after moderate growth.

• For best cutting performance, grass over

6" in heightshould be mowed twice. Make

the first cut relatively high; the second to

desired height.

TO OPERATE MOWER

Your tractor is equipped with an operator

presence sensing switch. Any attempt

by the operator to leave the seat with the

engine running and the attachment clutch

engaged will shut off the engine. You must

remain fully and centrally positioned in the

seat to prevent the engine from hesitating or

cutting off when operating your equipment

on rough, rolling terrain or hills.

1. Select desired height of cut with attach-

ment lift lever.

2. Start mower blades by engaging attach-

ment clutch control.

TO STOP MOWER BLADES

Disengage attachment clutch control.

_CAUTION" Do not operate the mower

without either the entire grass catcher, on

mowers so equipped, orthe deflector shield

in place.

REVERSEOPERATIONSYSTEM(ROS)

Your tractor is equipped with a Reverse

Operation System (ROS). Any attempt by

the operatorto travel in the reverse direction

with the attachment clutch engaged will shut

off the engine unless ignition key is placed

in the ROS "ON" position.

_WARNING: Backing up with the at-

tachment clutch engaged while mowing is

strongly discouraged, Turningthe ROS "ON",

to allow reverse operation with the attach-

ment clutch engaged, should only be done

when the operator decides it is necessary to

reposition the machine with the attachment

engaged. Do not mow in reverse unless

absolutely necessary,

USING THE REVERSE OPERATION

SYSTEM -

Only useifyou arecertain no chiidren or other

bystanders will enter the mowing area.

1. Move motion control lever to neutral

position,

2. With engine running, turn ignition key

counterclockwise to ROS "ON" posi-

tion.

3, Look down and behind before and while

backing.

4. Slowly move motion control lever to

reverse (R) position to start movement.

5, When use ofthe ROS is notongerneeded,

turn the ignitionkey clockwise to engine

"ON" position.

,_WARNING: Do not drive up or down

hills with slopes greater than 15° and do not

drive across any slope. Usethe slope guide

• If stopping is absolutely necessary, push

clutch/brake pedal quicktyto brake position

When pushing or towing your tractor, En-

sure to disengage transmission by placing

TOWING CARTS AND OTHER ATTACH-

MENTS

Tow only the attachments that are recom-

mended by and comply with specifications

of the manufacturer of your tractor, Use

common sense when towing. Too heavy of

a load, while on a slope, is dangerous. Tires

can lose traction with the ground and cause

you to lose control of your tractor,

BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE

CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL

The engine in yourtractor has beenshipped

from the factory already filled with summer

weight oil,

1. Check engine oil with tractor on level

ground.

2. Remove oil fill cap/dipstick and wipe

clean, reinsertthe dipstick and screw cap

tight, wait for a few seconds, remove and

read oil level. If necessary, add oil until

"FULL' mark on dipstick is reached. Do

not overfill.

• For cold weather operation you should

change oil for easier starting (See the oil

viscosity chart in the Maintenance section

of this manual).

° Tochange engine oit,seethe Maintenance

section in this manual.

ADD GASOLINE

• Fill fuel tank to bottom of filler neck. Do

not overfill. Use fresh, clean, regular

gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane.

Do not mix oil with gasoline. Purchase

fuel in quantities that can be used within

30 days to ensure fuel freshness.

CAUTION: Wipe offanyspilled oil orfuel.

Do not store, spill or use gasoline near an

open flame.

IMPORTANT: When operating intempera-

tures below 32°F (0°C), use fresh, clean

winter grade gasoline to help ensure good

cold weather starting,

CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels (called

gasohol or using ethanol or methanol) can

attract moisture which leads to separation

and formation ofacids during storage. Acidic

gas can damagethe fuel system of an engine

while in storage. To avoid engine problems,

the fuel system should be emptied before

storage of 30 days or longer. Drain the gas

tank, start the engine and let it run until the

fuel lines and carburetor are empty. Use

freshfuel next season. See Storage Instruc-

tions for additional information, Never use

engine or carburetor cleaner products inthe

fuel tank or permanent damage may occur.

Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alternative in

minimizingthe formation of fuelgum deposits

during storage. Add stabilizer to gasoline in

fuel tank orstorage container. Always follow

the mix ratio found on stabilizer container.

Run engine at least 10 minutes after adding

stabilizer to allow the stabilizer to reach the

TO START ENGINE

When starting the engine for the first time or

if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take

extra cranking time to move fuel from the

tank to the engine.

1. Ensure freewheel control is in the trans-

mission engaged position.

2. Sit on seat in operating position, depress

clutch/brake pedal and set parkingbrake.

3. Place motion control lever in neutral

position.

4. Move attachment clutch to disengaged

position.

5. Move throttle control to choke position,

NOTE: Before starting, read the warm and

cold starting procedures below.

6. Insert key into ignition and turn key

clockwise to start position and release

key as soon as engine starts, Do not run

starter continuously for morethan fifteen

seconds per minute, if the engine does

not start after several attempts, move

throttle control to fast position, wait a

few minutes and try again. If engine still

does not start, move the throttle control

back to the choke position and retry,

WARM WEATHER STARTING

(50°F/t0°C and above)

7. When engine starts, move the throttle

control to the fast position.

• The attachments and ground drive can

now be used, Ifthe engine does notaccept

the load, restart the engine and allow it to

warm up for one minute using the choke

as described above.

COLD WEATHER STARTING

(50°F/10°C and below)

7. When enginestarts, leavethrottlecontrol

in choke position until engine warms up

and begins to run roughly. Once rough .....

running begins, immediately move the

throttle control to the fast position. Engine

warm-up maytake from several seconds

to several minutes (the colder the tem-

perature, the longer the warm-up).

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WARM UP

Before driving the unit in cold weather, the

transmission should bewarmed upasfollows:

t. Ensure the tractor is on level ground.

2. Placethe motion control lever in neutral.

Release the parking brake and let the

clutch!brake slowly return to operating

position.

3. Allow one minutefortransmissiontowarm

up. This can be done during the engine

warm up period,

carburetor. Do not empty the gas tank and14

carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.

• Theattachmentscanalsobeuseddur-

ingtheenginewarm-upperiodafterthe

transmissionhasbeenwarmedup.

PURGE TRANSMISSION

_IbCAUTION: Never engage or disengage

freewheel lever while the engine is running.

Toensure proper operation andperformance,

it is recommended that the transmission be

purged before operating tractor for the first

time. This procedure will remove anytrapped

air inside the transmission which may have

developed during shipping of your tractor.

IMPORTANT: Should your transmission

require removal for service or replacement,

it should be purged after reinstallation before

operating the tractor.

1. Place tractor safe[y on a level surface -

that is clear of objects and open - with

engine off and parking brake set.

2. Disengage transmission by placing

freewheel control in disengaged position

(See "TO TRANSPORT" in this section

of manual).

3. Sitting in the tractor seat, start engine,

After the engine isrunning, movethrottle

control to slow position. With motion

control lever in neutral position, slowly

disengage clutch/brake pedal.

_IbCAUTION: At any time, during step 4,

there may be movement of the drive wheels.

4. Move motion control lever to full forward

position and hold for five (5) seconds.

Move lever to full reverse position and

hold for five (5) seconds. Repeat this

procedure three (3) times.

5. Move motion control lever to neutral

position, Shutoff engine and set parking

brake.

6, Engage transmission by placing free-

wheel control in engaged position (See

"TO TRANSPORT" in this section of

manual).

7. Sitting in the tractor seat, start engine.

After the engine is running, move throttle

control to haft (1/2) speed. With motion

control lever in neutral position, slowly

disengage clutch/brake pedal.

8, Slowly move motion control leverforward,

after the tractor moves approximately

five (5) feet, slowly move motion control

lever to reverse position. After the tractor

moves approximately five (5) feet return

the motion control lever to the neutral

position, Repeat this procedure with the

motion control lever three (3) times.

Your transmission is now purged and now

ready for normal operation.

MOWING TIPS

• DO NOT usetire chains when the mower

housing is attached to tractor.

• Mower should be properly leveled for best

mowing performance. See 'q-O LEVEL

MOWER HOUSING" in the Service and

Adjustments section of this manual.

• The left hand side of mower should be

used for trimming.

• Drive so that clippings are discharged onto

the area that has already been cut, Have

the cut area to the right of the tractor. This

will result in a more even distribution of

clippings and more uniform cutting.

• When mowing large areas, start by turning

to the right so that clippings will discharge

away from shrubs, fences, driveways,

etc. After one or two rounds, mow in the

opposite direction making left hand turns

until finished.

• If grass is extremely tail, it should be

mowed twice to reduce load and possible

fire hazard from dried clippings, Make

first cut relatively high; the second to the

desired height.

• Do not mow grass when it is wet. Wet

grass will plug mower and leave undesir-

able clumps. Allow grass to dry before

mowing.

• Always operate engine at full throttle

when mowing to assure better mow-

ing performance and proper discharge

of material. Regulate ground speed by

selecting a low enough gear to give the

mower cutting performance as well as the

quality of cut desired.

• When operating attachments, select a

ground speed that will suit the terrain and

give best performance of the attachment

being used.

points which have special nylon bearings.

Viscous lubricants will attract dust and dirt

that will shorten the life ofthe self-lubricating

use only a dry, powdered graphite type

lubricant sparingly.

TRACTOR

Alwaysobservesafety rules when performing

any maintenance.

BRAKE OPERATION

If tractor requires more than five (5) feet to

stop at highest speed in highest gear on a

level, dry concrete or paved surface, then

brake must be serviced. (See "TO CHECK

BRAKE" in the Service and Adjustments

section of this manual).

TIRES

- Maintain proper air pressure in all tires

(See the sides of tires for properPSf).

• Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect

control chemicals which can harm rubber.

- Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharp

objects and other hazards that may cause

tire damage.

NOTE: To seal tire punctures and prevent

flat tires due to slow leaks, tire sealant may

be purchased from your local parts dealer.

Tire sealant also prevents tire dry rot and

corrosion.

OPERATOR PRESENCE SYSTEM AND

REVERSE OPERATION SYSTEM (ROS)

Ensure operator presence and reverse

operation systems are working properly. If

your tractor does not function as described,

repair the problem immediately,

- The engine should not start unless the

brake pedal is fully depressed, and the

attachment clutch control is in the disen-

gaged position.

• When the engine is running, any attempt

by the operator to leave the seat without

first setting the parking brake should shut

off the engine,

• When the engine is running and the at-

tachment clutch is engaged, any attempt

• The attachment clutch should never oper-

ate unless the operator is inthe seat.

BLADE CARE

Replace worn, bent or damaged blades.

_,CAUTtON: Use only a replacement blade

approved bythe manufacturer of your tractor.

Using a blade not approved by the manu-

facturer of your tractor is hazardous, could

damage your tractor and void your warranty.

BLADE REMOVAL

1. Raise mower to highest position to allow

access to blades.

NOTE: Protect your hands with gloves and/

or wrap blade with heavy cloth.

2. Remove blade bolt by turning counter-

clockwise.

3. Install new blade with stamped "GRASS

SIDE" facing the ground.

IMPORTANT: To ensure proper assembly,

center hole in blade must align with star on

mandrel assembly.

4. Install and tighten blade bolt securely

(45-55 Ft. Lbs. torque/62-75 Nm).

IMPORTANT: Special blade bolt is heat

treated.

BATTERY

Your tractor has a battery charging system

which is sufficient for normal use. However,

periodic charging of the battery with an au-

tomotive charger will extend its life.

* Keep battery and terminals clean.

° Keep battery bolts tight,

. Keep small vent holes open.

. Recharge at 6-10 amperes for 1 hour.

NOTE, The original equipment battery on

your tractor is maintenance free. Do not

attempt to open or remove caps or covers,

Adding or checking level of electrolyte is

not necessary.

TO CLEAN BATTERY AND TERMINALS

Corrosion and dirt on the battery and termi-

nals can cause the battery to "leak" power.

I. Disconnect BLACK battery cable first

then RED battery cable and remove

battery from tractor.

2. Rinsethe batterywith plain water and dry.

3. Clean terminals and battery cable ends

with wire brush until bright.

4. Coat terminals with grease or petroleum

jelly.

5. Reinstall battery (See "REPLACING

BATTERY" in the SERVICE AND AD-

JUSTMENTS section of this manual).

V-BELTS

CheckV-beltsfor deteriorationand wear after

100 hours of operation and replace if neces-

sary. The belts are not adjustable. Replace

belts if they begin to slip from wear.

TRANSAXLE COOLING

The transmission fan and cooling fins should

be kept clean to ensure proper cooling.

Do not attempt to clean fan or transmission

while engine is running or while the trans-

mission is hot. To prevent possible damage

to seals, do not use high pressure water or

steam to clean transaxle.

• Inspect cooling fan to ensure fan blades

are intactand clean.

• inspect cooling fins for dirL,grass clippings

and other materials. Toprevent damage to

seals, do not use compressed air or high

pressure sprayer to clean cooling fins.

TRANSAXLE PUMP FLUID

The transaxle was sealed atthe factory and

fluid maintenance is not required for the life

of the transaxle. Should the transaxle ever

leak or require servicing, contact your near-

est Sears or other qualified service center.

ENGINE

LUBRICATION

Only use high quality detergent oil rated with

API service classification SG-SL. Selectthe

oil's SAE viscosity grade according to your

expected operating temperature.

NOTE: Although multi-viscosity oils (5W30,

10W30 etc.) improve starting incold weather,

they will result in increased oil consumption

when used above 32°F/0°C. Check your

engine oillevel more frequentlyto avoid pos-

sible engine damage from running low on oil.

Change the oil after every 50 hours of opera-

tion or at least once a year if the tractor is

not used for 50 hours in one year.

Check the crankcase oil level before starting

the engine and after each eight (8) hours

of operation, Tighten oil fill cap/dipstick

securely each time you check the oil level.

TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL

Determine temperature range expected

before oil change. All oil must meet API

service classification SG-SL

• Be sure tractor is on level surface.

• Oil will drain more freely when warm.

• Catch oil in a suitable container.

1. Remove oil fill cap/dipstick. Be careful

not to allow dirt to enter the engine when

changing oil,

4. After oil is drained completely, replace

cap and twist clockwise until it stops.

5. Re-attach oil drain extension to engine

blower housing.

6. Refill engine with oilthrough oilfill dipstick

tube. Pour slowly. Do not overfill. For ap-

proximate capacity see "PRODUCT SP-

ECIFICATIONS" section of this manual.

7. Use gauge on oil fill cap/dipstick for

checking level. For accurate reading,

tighten dipstick cap securely onto the

tube before removing dipstick. Keep oil

at "PULE' line on dipstick. Tighten cap

onto the tube securely when finished.

ENGINE OIL FILTER

Replace the engine oil filter every season or

every other oil change if the tractor is used

more than 100 hours in one year.

AIR FILTER

Your engine will not run properly using a

dirty air filter. Service paper cartridge every

100 hours of operation or every season,

whichever occurs first.

Service air cleaner more often under dusty

conditions.

1. Remove cover.

2. Carefully remove air filter cartridge and

pre-cteaner from base.

3. Clean base carefully to prevent debris

from falling into carburetor.

NOTE: If very dirty or damaged, replace

cartridge.

4. Place new pre-cleaner and cartridge

firmly in base.

5. Replace cover.

IMPORTANT: Petroleum solvents, such as

kerosene, are not to be used to clean the

cartridge. They may cause deterioration of

the cartridge. Do not oil cartridge. Do not

use pressurized air to clean cartridge.

CLEAN AIR SCREEN

The air screen is over the air intake blower

located on top of engine. The air screen

must be kept free of dirt and chaff to prevent

enginedamagefrom overheating. Clean with

a wire brush or compressed air to remove

dirt and stubborn dried gum fibers.

ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM

Debris may clog the engine's air cooling

system. Remove blower housingand clean

area shown to prevent overheating and

engine damage.

IN-LINE FUEL FILTER

The fuel filter should be replaced once each

season, if fuel filter becomes clogged, ob-

structing fuel flow to carburetor, replacement

is required.

1. With engine coot, remove filter and plug

fuel line sections.

with arrow pointing towards carburetor.

3. Be sure there are no fuel line leaks and

clamps are properly positioned.

4. Immediately wipe up anyspilled gasoline.

Except for the washout port (if equipped),

we do not recommend using a garden hose

or pressure washer to clean the outside of

your tractor unless the engine and transmis-

sion are covered to keep water out. Water

in engine or transmission will shorten the

useful life of your tractor. Use compressed

air or a leaf blower to remove grass, leaves

and trash from outside tractor and mower.

DECK WASHOUT PORT

Your tractor's deck is equipped with a washout

port as part of its deck wash system. It should

be utilized after each use.

1. Drive the tractor to a level, clear spot on

your lawn, near enough to awater spigot

for your garden hose to reach.

IMPORTANT: Make certain the tractor's

discharge chute is directed AWAY from your

house, garage, parked cars, etc. Remove bag-

ger chute or mulch cover if attached.

2. Make sure the attachment clutch control

is in the "DISENGAGED" position, set

the parking brake, and stop the engine.

3. Thread the nozzle adapter (packaged with

your tractor's Operator's Manual) ontothe

end of your garden hose,

4. Pull back the lock collar of the nozzle

adapter and push the adapter onto the

deck washout port at the left end of the

mower deck. Release the lock collar to

lock the adapter on the nozzle.

IMPORTANT: Tug hose ensuring connection

is secure.

5. Turn the water on.

6. While sitting in the operator's position on

the tractor, re-start the engine and place

the throttle lever in the Fast ",_" position.

IMPORTANT: Recheck the area to ensure the

area is clear. Ensure no children are in the

area while cleaning the deck.

7. Move the tractor's attachment clutch con-

trol to the "ENGAGED" position. Remain

intheoperator's position with thecutting

deck engaged until the deck is cleaned.

8. Move the tractor's attachment clutch con-

trol to the "DISENGAGED" position. Turn

the ignition keytotheSTOP positiontotum

the tractor's engine off. Turn the water off.

9. Pull back the lock collar of the nozzle

adapter to disconnect the adapter from

the nozzle washout port.

10. Move the tractor to a dry area, preferably

a concrete or paved area. Place the at-

tachment clutch controlinthe"ENGAGED"

position to remove excess water and to

help dry before putting the tractor away.

_WARNING: A broken or missing washout

fitting could expose you or others to thrown

objects from contact with the blade.

• Replace broken or missing washout fitting

immediately, prior to using mower again.

o Plug any holes in mower with bolts and

Iocknuts.

WARNING: TO AVOID SERIOUS INJURY, BEFORE PERFORMING ANY

bSERVICE OR ADJUSTMENTS:

1. Depress clutch!brake pedal fully and set parking brake.

2. Place motion control lever in neutral position.

3+ Place attachment clutch in "DISENGAGED" position.

4. Turn ignition key to "STOP" and remove key.

5. Ensure the blades and all moving parts have completely stopped.

6. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot

come in contact with plug.

TO REMOVE MOWER

1. Place attachment clutch in "DISEN-

GAGED" position.

2. Lower attachment 5ft lever to its lowest

position.

3. Roll belt off engine pulley (M) and belt

keepers (G).

4. Remove retainer spring (K), slide collar

(L) off and push housing guide (P) out

of bracket.

5. Remove clutch cable spring (Q) from

idler arm (R).

6. Disconnect front link (E) from mower -

remove retainer spring and washer.

7. Go to either side of mower and discon-

nect mower suspension arm (A) from

chassis pin (B) and rear lift link (C) from

rear mower bracket (D) - remove retainer

springs and washers.

CAUTION: After rear lift links are discon-

nected, the attachment lift leverwill be spring

loaded. Have a tight grip on lift lever when

changing position of the lever.

8, Slide mower outfrom under right side of

tractor.

IMPORTANT: If an attachment other than

the mower is to be mounted on the tractor.

remove the front link (E) and rear lift links

(Q) into the cable guide on front edge of

tower dash.

TO INSTALL MOWER

Ensure tractor is on level surface and engage

parking brake+

1. Lower attachment lift lever to its lowest

position.

_k CAUTION: Lift [ever is spring loaded.

Have a tight grip on lift lever, lower it slowly

and engage in lowest position.

NOTE: Ensure mower side suspension arms

(A)are pointing forward before sliding mower

under tractor,

2. Slide mower under tractor until it is cen-

tered under tractor.

3, ATTACH MOWER SIDE SUSPENSION

ARMS (A) TO CHASSIS - Position hole

in arm over pin (B) on outside of tractor

chassis and secure with retainer spring.

4. Repeat on opposite side of tractor.

7. Insert end of link (E) into hole in front

mower bracket (H) and secure with

washer and retainer spring (J).

5. ATTACH REAR LIFT LINKS (C) - Lift

rear corner of mower and position slot

in link assembly over pin (D) on rear

mower bracket and secure with washer

and retainer spring.

8. Hook end of clutch cable spring (Q) into

hole in idler arm (R).

9. Push clutch cable housing guide (P) into

bracket, slide collar (L) onto guide and

secure with retainer spring (K).

10. Install belt onto engine pulley (M) and belt

keepers (G).

6. ATTACH FRONT LINK (E) - Work from

left side of tractor. Insert rod end of link

assembly through front hole in tractor

front suspension bracket (F).

IMPORTANT: Check belt for proper routing

in all mower pulley grooves.

11 .Raise attachment lift lever to highest

position.

12. if necessary, adjust gauge wheels before

operating mower as shown inthe Opera-

tion section of this manual.

TO LEVEL MOWER

Make sure tires are properly inflated to the

PSI shown ontires. Iftires are over or under

inflated,it may affect the appearance of your

lawn and lead you to think the mower is not

adjusted properly,

VISUAL SIDE-TO-SIDE ADJUSTMENT

I. With all tires properly inflatedand if your

_awn appears unevenly cut, determine

which side of mower is cutting lower.

2, With a3/4" or adjustable wrench, turn lift

link adjustment nut (A) to the teft to lower

LH side of mower, or,to the rightto raise

LH side of mower,

change mower height about 3/16.

3, Test your adjustment by mowing some

uncut grass and visually checking the

appearance. Readjust, ffnecessary, until

you are satisfied with the results.

PRECISION SIDE-TO-SIDE ADJUSTMENT

1. With alltires properly inflated,parktractor

2. Raise mower to its highest position.

3. At both sides of mower, position blade at

side and measure the distance (A) from

bottom edge of bfade to the ground. The

distance should be the same on both

sides.

4. If adjustment is necessary, see step 2 in

Visual Adjustment instructionsabove.

5. Recheck measurements, adjust if neces-

sary until both sides are equal.

FRONT-TO-BACK ADJUSTMENT

IMPORTANT: Deck must be level side-

to-side.

To obtainthe best cutting results, the mower

blades shouid be adjusted so the front tip is

1/8" to 1/2" lower than the rear tip when the

,_i_oweris in its highest position.

CAUTION: Blades are sharp. Protect

your hands with gloves and/or wrap blade

with heavy cloth,

• Raise mower to highest position.

• Position any blade so the tip is pointing

straight forward. Measure distance (B)

to the ground at front and rear tip of the

blade.

• If front tip of blade is not 1/8" to 1/2" lower

than the rear tip, go to the front of tractor.

• With an 11/16" or adjustable wrench,

loosen jam nut "A" several turns to clear

adjustment nut "B".

With a 3/4" or adjustable wrench, turn

front linkadjustment nut"B" clockwise (r'_)

(tighten) to raise the front of mower, or,

countercioct_wise (_) (loosen) to lower

the front mower.

TO REPLACE MOWER BLADE DRIVE

BELT

The mower blade drive belt may be replaced

withouttools. Park the tractor on level sur-

face. Engage parking brake.

BELT REMOVAL -

1. Remove mowerfromtractor (See"TO RE-

MOVE MOWER" inthis sectionof manual).

2. Work belt off both mandrel pulleys and

idler pulleys.

3. Pull belt away from mower.

BELT INSTALLATION -

1. Work belt around both mandrel pulleys

and idler pulleys

2. Ensure belt is in all pulley grooves and

inside all belt guides,

3. Install mower (See "To Install Mower" in

this section of this manual).

BELT INSTALLATION -

1, Install new belt from tractor rear to front,

over the steering plate (F) and above

clutch brake pedal shaft (G),

2. Pull belt toward front of tractor and roll

belt onto engine pulley (E).

3. Pull belttoward rear of tractor. Carefully

work belt down around transmission

cooling fan and onto the input pulley (D).

Ensure belt is inside the belt keeper,

4. Install belt on centerspan idler (C).

5. Install belt through stationary idler (A)

and clutching idler (B).

6. Ensure belt is in all pulley grooves and

inside all belt guides and keepers.

7, Install mower (See "TO INSTALL MOW-

ER" in this section of manual).

TO REPLACE MOTION DRIVE BELT

Park the tractor on level surface. Engage

parking brake. For assistance, there is a

belt installation guide decal on bottom side

of left footrest.

BELT REMOVAL -

1. Remove mower (See "TO REMOVE

MOWER" in this section of manual).

NOTE: Observe entire motion drive belt

and position of all belt guides and keepers,

2. Remove beltfrom stationary idler (A)and

clutching idler (B).

3. Remove belt from centerspan idler (C),

6, PuB belt slack toward rear of tractor.

Carefully remove belt upwards from

transmission input pulley and over cool-

ing fan blades (D).

4. Remove belt downward from engine

5, Slide belt toward rear of tractor, off the

steering plate (F) and removefromtractor,

TO CHECK BRAKE

If tractor requires more than five (5) feet to

stop at highest speed in highest gear on a

level, dry concrete or paved surface, then

brake must be serviced,

You may also check brake by:

1. Park tractor on a level, dry concrete or

paved surface, depress brake pedal all

the way down and engage parking brake.

2. Disengage transmission by placing

freewheel control in "transmission dis-

engaged" position. Pull freewheel control

out and into the slot and release so it is

held in the disengaged position,

The rear wheels must lock and skid when

you try to manually push the tractor forward.

If the rear wheels rotate, then the brake

needs to be serviced. Contact a Sears or

other qualified service center.

TO REMOVE WHEEL FOR REPAIRS

I. Block up axle securely.

2. Remove axle cover, retaining ring and

washers to allow wheel removal (rear

wheels have a square key +Do not lose).

3. Repair tire and reassemble.

NOTE: On rearwheels only: align grooves in

rear wheel hub and axle. Insert square key,

4. Replace washers and snap retaining ring

securely in axle groove,

5. Replace axle cover.

NOTE: To seal tire punctures and prevent

flat tires due to slow leaks, purchase and

use tire seatantfrom Sears. Tire sealant also

prevents tire dry rot and corrosion.

FRONT WHEEL TOE-IN/CAMBER

Your new tractor front wheel toe-in and

camber is set at the factory and is normal,

The front wheel toe-in and camber are not

adjustable. If damage has occurred to

affect the factory set front wheel toe-in or

camber, contact a Sears or other quatified

service center.

TRANSAXLE MOTION CONTROL LEVER

NEUTRAL ADJUSTMENT

The motioncontrolleverhas been presetatthe

factory; adjustment should notbe necessary.

I. Loosen adjustment bolt in front of the

right rear wheel, and lightly tighten.

2. Start engine and move motion control

lever until tractor does not move forward

or backward.

3. Hold motion control lever inthat position

and turn engine off.

4, While holding motion control lever in

place, loosen the adjustment bolt.

5, Move motion control lever to the neutral

(lock gate) position.

6. Tighten adjustment bolt securely.

NOTE: If additional clearance is needed to

get to adjustment bolt, move mower deck

height to the lowest position.

After above adjustment is made, if the trac-

tor still creeps forward or bacl_ward while

motion control lever is in neutral position,

follow these steps:

1. Loosen the adjustment bolt.

2. Move the motion control lever 1/4 to t/2

inch in the direction it is trying to creep.

3. Tighten adjustment bolt securely.

4. Start engine and test.

5. If tractor still creeps, repeat above steps

until satisfied.

TO STARTENGINEWITHWEAK BATTERY

,_WARNING: Lead-acid batteries gener-

ate explosive gases. Keep sparks, flame

and smoking materials away from batteries.

Always wear eye protection when around

batteries.

Ifyour battery istoo weak to startthe engine, it

should be recharged. (See "BATTERY" inthe

MAINTENANCE section of this manual).

If "jumper cables" are used for emergency

starting, follow this procedure:

IMPORTANT: Your tractor is equipped with

a 12 volt system. The othervehicle must also

be a 12 volt system. Do not use your tractor

battery to start other vehicles.

TO ATTACH JUMPER CABLES -

1. Connect one end of the RED cable tothe

POSITIVE (+)terminat of each battery(A-

B),taking care notto short against tractor

chassis.

2. Connect one end of the BLACK cable

to the NEGATIVE (-)terminal (C) of fully

charged battery.

3. Connect the other end of the BLACK

cable (D) to good chassis ground, away

from fuel tank and battery.

TO REMOVE CABLES, REVERSE ORDER-

1. BLACK cable firstfrom chassis and then

from the fully charged battery.

2. RED cable last from both batteries.

after reinstallation and before operating the

ENGINE

TO ADJUST THROTTLE CONTROL

CABLE

The throttle control has been preset at

the factory and adjustment should not be

necessary Check adjustment as described

below before loosening cable. If adjustment

is necessary, see engine manual.

TO ADJUST CHOKE CONTROL

The choke control has been preset at the

factory and adjustment should not be neces-

sary. If adjustment is necessary, see engine

manual.

Immediatelyprepare your tractor for storage

at the end of the season or if the tractor will

not be used for 30 days or more.

_lb WARNING: Never store the tractor with

gasoline in the tank inside a building where

fumes may reach an open flame or spark.

Allow the engine to cool before storing in

any enclosure.

TRACTOR

Remove mower from tractor for winter

storage. When mower is to be stored for a

period of time, clean it thoroughly, remove

all dirt, grease, leaves, etc. Store in a clean,

dry area.

1, Clean entire tractor (See "CLEANING"

in the Maintenance section of this

manual).

2, Inspect and replace belts, if necessary

(See belt replacement instructions in the

Service and Adjustments section of this

manual).

3. Lubricate as shown in the Maintenance

section of this manual.

4. Ensure that all nuts, bolts and screws

are securely fastened. Inspect moving

parts for damage, breakage and wear.

Replace if necessary.

5. Touch up all rusted or chipped paint

surfaces; sand lightly before painting.

BA'I-rERY

• Fully chargethe battery for storage.

• After a period of time in storage, battery

may require recharging.

• To help preventcorrosion and powerteak-

age during long periods of storage, battery

cables shouId be disconnected and bat-

tery cleaned thoroughly (see "TO CLEAN

BATTERY AND TERMINALS" in the

Maintenance section of this manua[).

• Al_er cleaning, leave cables disconnected

and place cables where they cannot come

in contact with battery terminals.

• ]f battery is removed from tractor for

storage, do not store battery directly on

concrete or damp surfaces.

ENGINE

FUEL SYSTEM

IMPORTANT: it is important to prevent

gum deposits from forming in essential fuel

system parts such as carburetor, fuel hose,

ortank during storage. Also, alcohol blended

fuels (called gasohel or using ethanol or

methanol) can attract moisture which leads

to separation and formation of acids during

storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuet

system of an engine while in storage.

• Empty the fuel tank by starting the engine

and letting it run until the fuel lines and

carburetor are empty.

• Never use engine or carburetor cleaner

products in the fuel tank or permanent

damage may occur.

, Use fresh fuef next season.

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable al-

ternative in minimizing the formation of fuel

gum deposits during storage. Add stabiIizer

to gasoline in fuel tank or storage container.

Always followthe mix ratio found on stabilizer

container. Run engine at least 10 minutes

after adding stabilizerto allow the stabilizer tc

reach the carburetor. Do not empty the gas

tank and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.

ENGINE OIL

Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace

with clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" inthe

Maintenance section of this manual).

CYLINDER(S)

1. Remove spark plug(s).

2. Pour one ounce ofoil through spark plug

hole(s) into cylinder(s).

3. "[brn ignition key to "START" position for

a few seconds to distribute oil.

4. Replace with new spark plug(s).

OTHER

• Do not store gasoline from one season to

another.

- Replaceyour gasolinecan ffyour can starts

to rust. Rust and!or dirt in your gasoline

will cause problems.

• If possible, store your tractor indoorsand

cover itto give protectionfrom dustand dirt.

• Cover your tractor with a suitabie protec-

tive cover that does not retain moisture.

Do not use plastic. Plastic cannot breathe

which allows condensation to form andwill

cause your tractor to rust.

IMPORTANT: Never cover tractor while

engine and exhaust areas are still warm.

- Cortar hacia arriba y abajo de una pendiente,

no de mode horizontal.

• Poner atenciones a los hoyos, las rafces, los

bultos, las piedras u otros objetos escondidos.

El terreno irregular puede vo[car la m_tquina.

- Escoger una velocidad de marcha baja de

mode que no sea necesario parerse o cambiar

• No cortarla hierba mojada. Las ruedas pueden

MANIPULACI6N SEGURA DE LA GASOLINA

Pare evitar heridas personales o defies a Ias

cosas, poner el mitximo cuidado ala hera de

manipular Ia gasolina. La gasolina es extreme-

monte inffamable y los vapores son explosives.

• Apagar todos los cigarrillos, cigarros, pipas y

otras fuentes de igniciAn.

• Nunca quitar el tapAn de la gasoline o afiadir

deI carburante donde haya una llama abierta,

chispas o una ]uz piioto come un calentador

de ague u otros dispositivos.

• Nunca llenar los contenedores al interior de

un vehtcuio o en una caravana o camiAn

recubiertos con un forte de plAstico. Colocar

siernpre los contenedores en el terreno lejos

del vehiculo cuando se estd llenando.

• Quitar el equipo de gas del camiAn o caravana

y abastecerlo en el terreno. 8i no es posible,

abastecer dicho equipo con un contenedor por-

tAti_,mAs bien que de un surtidor de gasolina.

• Mantener la boquilla a contacto del borde

del depAsito de carburante o la abertura det

contenedor durante toda la operaciAn de

abastecirniento, No utilizer un dispositivo con

boquitla cerrada-abierta.

• Si se vierte carburante sobre la ropa, cambi-

arse la ropa inmediatamente.

PARA REMOVER EL, TRACTOR DE

AJUSTE EL ASIENTO

1. Si_ntese sobre el asiento.

2. Levante ta palanca deI ajuste (A) hacia arriba

y mueva el asiento hasta que alcance una

posici6n c6modaque le perm_ presionar corn*

pletamente sobre el pedal delembrague/freno.

3. Desconecte la palanca para trabar el asiento

en la posici6n.

REVISION DE LA PRESION DE LAS

LLANTAS

Las tlantas en su unidad fueron infladas de-

masiado en la f&bdca por razones de envio, La

presl6n de Ias Ilantas correctas es importante

pare obtener el mejor rendimiento en el corte.

• Reduzca la presi6n de los neum,'&ticosala PSI

que se indica en estos.

REVISION DE LA NIVELACION DEL

CON JUNTO

Vea las t_guras que aparecen pare carnbiar las

correas de impulsi6n de la cuchilla de la sega-

dora y de movimiento en la secci6n de Servicio y

Ajustes de este manual, Verifique que las coffees

slgan su paso correcto.

REVISION DEL SISTEMA DE FRENOS

Una vez que usted haya aprendido a manejar su

tractor, verifique que el freno funcione correcta-

mente. Ver "PARA VERIFICAR SI FUNCIONA

BIEN EL FRENO" en e] cap[tulo de servicio y

ajustes de este manual.

alambres est6n sujetos en forma adecuade.

La operaci@n de cualquier tractor puede hacer que salten objetos extra_os i

dentro de sus ojos, 1oque puede producir da_os graves en @stos. Siempre use |

anteojos de seguridad o protecciones para los ojos mientras opere su tractor |

o cuando haga ajustes o reparaciones. Recomendamos gafas de seguridad o I

una mdscara de visibn amplia ,de seguridad usada sobre las galas, ,, I

COMO USAR SU TRACTOR

PARA AJUSTAR EL FRENO DE ESTACIONA-

MIENTO

Su tractor viene equipado con un interruptorsen-

sor que exige la presencia del operador. Cuando

el motor est_ funcionando, si el operador trata de

bajarse del asiento sin primero aplicar et freno de

estacionamiento, se apagar& el motor,

1. Presione et pedal (D) del frenoiembrague

completamente y sostengalo,

2. Jale hacia arriba fa palanca del freno de

mano (H) y mant_ngala en esa posioi6n;

suelte graduafmente el pedal del embrague/

freno (D), y Iuego suelte la palanca de[ freno

de mano, El pedal tiene que quedar en la

posici6n de freno. Aseg_rese que el freno

de estacionamiento va a sujetar el tractor en

forma segura,

AVISO: No mover el control de aceleraci6n a Ia

posici6nr&pida antes de parar puede causar que

el motor tonga un "pistoneo".

* Gire la ]lave de ignicibn (F) a la posici6n de

apagado "STOP" y remueva Ia Ilave al aban-

donar eltractor para ev_ar el uso noautorizado,

IMPORTANTE: Dejando el interruptor de Ia

ignici6n en cualquier posici6n otra que "STOP"

causar i que Ia bateria se descargue (muerta).

AVISO: Bajo ciertas condiciones, cuando el

tractor est& parado con el motor andando en

vacio, los gases de escape del motor caliente

pueden hacer que el c@sped se ponga "caf_."

Para eliminar esta posibilidad, siempre pare el

motor cuando pare el tractor en &teas con c_sped.

PREOAUCI6N: Siempre pare el tractor com-

pletamente, seg_n se ha descrito anteriormente,

antes de abandonar Ia posici6n del operador,

PARA USAR EL CONTROL DE LA ACELER-

ACION (D)

Siempre opere el motor a una aceleraci6n

compieta.

, Si el motor funciona a una velocidad inferiora la

m&xima (r&pida), su rendimiento disminuye.

El rendimiento 6ptimo se obtiene a la velocidad

m&xima (r&pida),

• Mueva Ia control del embrague del accesorio

PARA MOVERSE HACIA ADELANTE Y HACIA

ATRAS

La direcci6n y Ia velocidad det movimiento son

controladas por medio de Ia pa]anca de control

de movimiento (J),

1. Haga arrancar el motor con la palanca de con-

trol de movimiento en la posJci6n de neutro.

2. Suelte el freno de estacionamiento.

3. Lentamente, mueva la palanca de control de

movimiento a la posici6n deseada.

PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE CORTE DE

LA SEGADORA

Laposici6nde la palanca elevadora (A) determina

a qu6 altura se cortar& et c_sped.

AMtSO: Ajuste las ruedas calibradoras con el

tractor en una superficie nivelada p]ana.

1. Ajuste la segadora a la altura de torte

deseada con la manilla de ajuste de al-

tura (Vea "PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE

CORTE DE LA SEGADOR_' en la seccibn

de Operaci6n de este manual).

2. Con la segadora a {a altura deseada para ta

posici6n de coke, se tienen que montar Ias

ruedas calibradoras de modo que queden

un poco sobre el suelo. Instale las ruedas

calibradoras en el agujero adecuado con e}

perno con resalto, la arandela de 3/8, y {a

tuerca de seguridad de 3/8-16 y apd_telos

en forma segura.

3. Repita e[ procedimiento para el lado opuesto

ins_alando Ia rueda calibradora en el mismo

agujero de ajuste.

• Coloque la palanca elevadora en la ranum de

raaltura deseada.

• Deslice el puntero de sefializaci6n (_ basra

esa altura, de modo de recordarla la pr6xima

vez que corte el c_sped.

La gama de la a{tura de corte es de aproxima-

damente 1 a 4 pulgadas. Las alturas se rniden

desde el suelo a la punta de la cuchiila cuando

el motor no est& funcionando. Estas alturas son

aproximadas y pueden variar dependiendode las

condiciones deI suelo, de la altura del c_sped y

del tipo def c@sped que se est& segando.

• El c_sped promedio debe cortarse aproxima-

damente a 2-1/2 pulgadas durante ta tempo-

radafrfa y sobre 3 pulgadas durante los meses

calurosos. Para obtener un c_sped m_ salu-

dable y de mejor apariencia, siegue a rnenudo

y despu_s de un crecimiento moderado.

• Para obtener el mejor rendimiento de corte, el

c_sped que tiene m&s de 6 pulgadas de altura

debesegarse dosveces. Haga elprimercorterel-

ativamente a_to;el segundo a la altura deseada.

PARA AJUSTAR LAS RUEDAS CALIBRA-

DORAS

Las ruedas calibradoras est&n bien ajustadas

cuando se encuentran un poco a distancia del

terreno al mismo tiempo que Ia segadora est_ a

la altura de corte deseada. Entonces las ruedas

calibradoras mantienen el conjunto segador en

posici6n para prevenir el corte raspeo en ca_i

todos los terrenos.

PARA OPERAR LA SEGADORA

Su tractor viene equipada con un interruptor

sensor que exige ta presencia del operador. Si

el motor est& funcionando y el embrague del ac-

cesorio est& enganchado y el operador trata de

bajarse deI asiento, se apagar& e] motor. Tiene

que mantenersesentado completa y centralmente

en e] asiento para impedir que el motor vacile o

se apague cuando se opere su equipo en terreno

disparejo, &spero o en cerros.

1. EI]ja a qu_ a]tura cortar&el c_sped pot medio

de la palanca elevadora.

2. Haga arrancar Ias cuchillas de la segadora

enganchando el control del embrague del

accesorio.

PARA PARAR LAS CUCHILLAS DE LA SEGA-

DORA

Desenganche el control del embrague del ac-

cesorio.

_,PRECAUCI6N: No opere la segadora sin,

ya sea, el recogedor de c_sped completo en las

segadoras asi equipadas o con Ia protecciSn

contra ta descarga en su lugar.

FUNCIONAMIENTO ATRAS

_ij tractor est,. equipado con el Sistema de Fun-

cionamiento Atr&s (ROS). Cualquier tentativa del

operador de viajarmarcha atr,_sconel embrague

puecto apagar& el motora menos que la Ilavede

ignici6n s.epongaen la posiciOnde "ON" del ROS.

ATENCION: [r marcha atr&s con el embrague

puesto para cortar, no es recomendable. Po-

niendo el ROS en posicibn"ON", para permitirel

funcionamiento atr&sconel embrague puesto, se

tiene que hacer sOIocuando el operador Io consi-

dera necesado para reposicionarla m&quinacon

el dispositivoembragado. No siegue en rev_s a

menos que sea absolutamente necesar|o.

USAR EL SISTEMA DE FUNCIONAMIENTO

ATRAS -

Utilice el tractor solamente si est& seguro de que

no ingresar&n nifios ni otras personas o animales

al ,_rea donde se va a cortar el c_sped.

1, Mover la palanca de mando deI movimiento

en la posiciOn neutro.

2. Con el motor en marcha, girar la Ilave deI in-

terruptor de la igniciOnen el sentido inverso al

de las agujas de] reloj hasta la posiciOn"ON",

3. Mire hacia abaio y hacia atr&s no sOlo antes

de ir maroha atr&s0sino mientras est@yendo

marcha arras,

4, Mover despacio la palanca de mando del

movimiento hacia la posiciOn atr,_s (R) para

empezar el movimiento.

5. Cuando el use deI ROSes mAs necesado, d@

vuelta a la Ilave de igniciOn en el sentido de

las agujas del reloj hasta la poslcibn "ON",

PosiciOn ROS "ON" Motor en posici6n"ON"

PARA OPERAR EN CERROS

_,ADVERTENCIA: No maneje hacia arriba o

haciaabajo en cerroscon pendientessupedoresa

15=y no maneje atravesando ninguna pendiente.

Utilice la guia de Ia pendiente proporcionadaen

la parte posteriora de este manual,

• Escoja la velocidad m&s lenta antes de arran-

car hacia arriba o hacia abajo en cerros,

- Evite parar o cambiar la velocidad en cerros,

• Siesabsolutamentenecesarioelparar, empuje

el pedal del embragueflreno r&pidamente a

la posiciOn de freno y enganche el freno de

estacionamiento>

, Mueva la palanca de control de movimiento a

la posiciOn de neutro.

IMPORTANTE: La palanca de control de movi-

miento no vuelve a Ia posiciOn de neutro cuando

el pedal deI embragueflreno esta presionado.

• Para volver a empezar con el movimiento,

suelte lentarnente, elfreno de estacionamiento

y el pedal del embrague/frano.

• Lentamente, mueva la palanca de control de

movimiento al ajuste m&s lento,

PARA TRANSPORTAR

Cuando empuje o arrastre su tractor asegt_resede

desenganchar la transmisiOn poniendo el control

de la rueda libre en la posiciOn de marcha de rue-

da ]ibre, Et control de marcha de rueda libre esta

situado en la barra de tracciOn trasera del tractor.

t. Levante la palanca de levantamiento del ac-

cesorio a su posiciOn m&s alta.

2. Tire deI mando de Ia rueda libre hacia afuera

y hacia abajo hasta que se coloque en la gu|a

y suOltalo de manera que se mantenga en ]a

posiciOn de desenganchada.

• No empuje o arrastre el tractor a m&s de dos

(2) MPH.

Para volver a accionarIa transmisiOn, invierta

este procedimiento.

TransmieiOn Enganohada

• Gire siempre lentamente.

TransmisiOn Desenganchada

AMISO: Para proteger el capota contra el dafio

cuando transporte su tractor en un camion o re-

molcador, aseg_rese que el capota est@cerrado

y asegurado al tractor. Use los medios apropia-

dos para amarrar el capota al tractor (cuerdas,

cordeles, etc.).

REMOLQUE DE CARRETILLAS O OTROS

ACCESORIOS

Rernolqueso]amente los accesorios recomenda-

dos y especificadospor el fabricante del tractor.

Use sentido com_.ncuado este remolcando. Las

cargas pesadas, cuando este yendo sobre una

pendiente, son peligrosas, las Uantas pueden

perder su tracoiOncon el terreno y pueden oca-

sionar que pierda el control de su tractor.

ANTES DE HACER ARRANCAR EL

MOTOR

REVISE EL NIVEL DE ACE1TE DEL MOTOR

Elmotor de su tractor se envla de f&brica ya Ileno

con aceRe de peso para verano.

t. Revise el aceite del motor con el tractor en

terreno nivelado,

2. Remueva latapa/varilla indicadora de nivel de

relIenodeI aceite y limpielas, vuelva a insertar

la varilla indicadora de nivel y atornille latapa

hasta que quede apretada, espere por unos

cuantos segundos, remu#vala y lea el nivel

del aceite. Si es necesario, agregue aceite

AGREGUE GASOLINA

• Llene e_tanque de combustible hasta la parte

inferior 8el cuello de relleno. No Io Ilene de m&s.

Use gasolina normal nueva y limpia con un

mlnimo de 87 octanos. No mezcle aceite con

gasolina. Compre combustible en cantidades

que se puedan usar en 30 dias para asegurar

la frescura del combustible.

_PRECAUCI6N: Limpie el aceite o et com-

bustible derramado. No almacene, derrame o use

gaso_ina cerca de una llama expuesta.

tMPORTANTE: Cuando se opere en temperatu-

ras pot debajo de 32°F (O°C) use gasolina de

inviernolimpia y nueva para auedar a asegurar

un buen arranque en clima frio.

PRECAUCION: Los combustibles mezclados con

alcohol (I]amados gasohol o que usan etanol o

metanol) pueden atraer la humedad, Io que pro-

voca la separaci6n y formacibn de &cidos durante

el almacenamiento. Elgas &cido puede dafiar e]

sistema de combustible de un motor mientras se

encuentra en almacenamiento. Para evitar prob-

iemas con e] motor,el sistemade combustible se

debe vaciar antes del almacenamiento durante

30 dIas o m&s. Drone el tanque de gasolina, ar-

ranque el motor y h&galo funcionar basra que las

tuberias de combustible y del carburador est_n

vac{as Use combustible nuevo en Ia temporada

siguiente. Consulte Ias Instrucciones de Aima-

cenamiento para obtener informaci6n adicionaI.

Nunca use productos limpiadores para motor o

carburador en el tanque de combustible porque

puede provocar daSos irreparables. E1estabi[iza-

dot de combustible es una aiternativa aceptable

para minimizar la formaci6n de dep6sitos de

goma de combustible durante el almacenamiento.

Agregue estabilizador a la gasolina en el tanque

de combustible o recipiente de almacenamiento.

Siga siempre la proporciSn de rnezcla que se

encuentra en e[ recipiente del estabilizador. Deje

funcionar el motor a_menos durante 10 minutos

despu_s de agregar el estabilizador para permitir

que el estabilizador llegue aI carburador. No vacie

el tanque de gasolina y el carburador si utiliza

estabilizador de combustible.

PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTOR

AI hacer arrancar el motor pot ta primera vez o si

seha acabado el combustible del motor, se necesi-

tar& tiempo para el arranque extra para mover el

combustible desde el estanque hasta el motor.

1. Aseg_rese que et control de rueda Iibre este

en la posicidn enganchada.

2. Si6ntase en el sill6n en Ia posici6n de oper-

aci6n, sueite el pedal deI freno y ponga eI freno

de estacionamiento.

3. Ponga la palanca de control de rnovimiento

en la posici6n de neutro.

4. Muevaelembraguedelaccesorioalaposici6n

desenganchado.

5. Mueva la palancade control de la ace[eraci6n

a la posici6n de estrangulaci6n.

AVISO: Antes de arrancar, lea las instruccio-

nes siguientes para el arranque en clima frio y

templado.

6. [nserte la Ilave en {a [gnici6n y gire Ia llave en

el sentido que giran Ias manillas de] reloj a ]a

posici6n de arranque start, y suelte la Ilavetan

pronto como arranque el motor. No haga fun-

cionar eI arrancador continuamente pot m&s

•de quince segundos pot minuto. Si el motor no

arranca despu6s de ratios intentaflos, mueva

el control de la aceleraci6n a la posici6n de

r&pido,espere unos cuantos minutos ytrate de

nuevo. Si el motor sigue sin funcionar, mueva

el control de la aceleracibn a la posicidn de

estrangulaci6n y intente de nuevo.

ARRANQUE CON TIEMPO TEMPLADO

(50 ° I=/10°C y m&s)

7. Cuando arranque el motor, mueva el control

de Ia aceleraci6n a {a posiciSn de r&pido.

• Los accesorios y el embrague ahora pueden

ser utilizados. Si el motor no acepta esta

carga, vuelva a arrancar el motor para per-

mitirle que secaliente pot un minuto utilizan-

do el estrangulador como describido ardba.

ARRANQUE CON TIEMPO FRiO

(50 ° F/10°C y menos)

7. AI hacer arrancar el motor, mantenga el

control de [a aceleraci6n a }a posicibn de es-

trangulaci6n hasta que el motor se caliente y

empieze funcionarmal. Una vez que empieze

a funcionar real, mueva inmediatamente el

control de Ia aceleraci6n a la posici6n r&pida.

El calentamiento deI motor puede tomar a

partir de varios segundos a varios minutos

(cuanto m&s fria esla temperatura, m&s largo

es el calentamiento).

CALENTAMIENTO PARA LA TRANSMIStON

AUTOMATICA

Antes de conducir la unidad en un tiempo frio, [a

transmisi6n debe ser calentada como las instruc-

clones siguientes:

1. Aseg_rese que el tractor este situado en una

superficie nivelada.

2. Alivie el freno de estacionamiento y deje que

el fl'eno vuelva a Ia posicidn de operacidn.

3. Permita que latransmisi6n se caliente durante

un minuto, Esto puede ser echo durante eI

tiempo de calentamiento del motor.

• Los accesorios pueden ser utilizados du-

rante el periodo del recalentamiento deI

motor despu_s que ta transmisi6n halla

sido calentada,

PURGAR LA TRANSMISION

_PRECAUCI6N: Nunca enganche o desen-

ganche la palanca del control de rueda libre

cuando el motor esta funcionando.

Paraasegurar Ia operaci6n y ejecuci6nadecuada,

es recomendado que la transmisi6nsea purgada

antes de operar el tractor para la pdmera vez.

Este proceso remover_ cualquier aire adentro

de la transmisi6n que se halla formado durante

ettransporte de su tractor.

IMPORTANTE: Si por acaso su transmisi6ndebe

ser removida para servicio o reemplazo, debe

set purgada despu6s de la reinstalaci6n y antes

de operar el tractor.

1. Para mayor seguridad, ubique el tractor en

una superficie nivelada, despejada de cual-

quier objeto y abierta, con eI motor apagado

y el freno de mano puesto.

2. Desenganche la transmisi6n poniendo el

controlde ruedalibreen la posici6n de desen-

ganchado (Vea "PARA ELTRANSPORTE" en

esta secci6n de este manual).

3. Sentado en el asiento del tractor, empiece

el motor. Despu_s que este corriendoel mo-

tor, mueva el controlde estrangulaci6n a la

posici6n de lento. Con la palanca de rueda

libre en la posici6nde neutral, desenganche

[entamente et embragueiel freno del pedal

_,PRECAUCI6N: En el transcurso del paso 4,

puede que de pronto se pongan en movimiento

Ias ruedas.

4. Mueva Ia pa[anca del control de movimiento

a la posicibntotal de adelante y suj_tela du-

rante cinco (5) segundos. Mueva la palanca

hacia Ia posici6n total de marcha atr_.s y

sujetela durante cinco (5) segundos. Repita

este proceso tres (3) veces.

5. Mueva la palanca del control de movimiento

a Ia posici6n de neutro. Apague eI motor y

embrague el freno de estacionarniento.

6. Enganche la transmisi6n poniendo el control

de rueda libre en Ia posici6n de conducir (Vea

"PARA TRANSPORTAR" en esta secci6n del

manual).

7, Sentado en el asiento del tractor, empiece el

motor. Despu_s que este corriendo el motor,

mueva el con_'ol de estrangulaci6nmedia (1/2)

vetocidad. Con la palanca de control de mov-

imiento a ia posici6n de neutro, Ientamente

desenganche eI embrague/elfreno deI pedal.

8. Mueva lentamente la palanca de control de

movimiento hacia adelante, despuL=sque el

tractor se mueva aproximadamente cinco (5)

pies, mueva lentamente con la palanca de

controlde movimiento a la posiciSn contraria.

Despu_s que el tractor se mueva aproximada-

mente unos cinco (5) pies vuelva a poner la

palanca de control de movimiento enla posici6n

de neutro, Repita este procedimiento la palan-

ca de control de movimiento ires (3) veces.

Su transmisi6n esta ahora purgado y dispuesto

para ]a operacibn normal.

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR

• NO use cadenas de Ilanta cuando Ia carcasa

de la cortadora de c_sped est_ colocada en eI

tractor.

• La segadora debe estar nivelada en forma

adecuada para obtener el mejor rendimiento

aI segar. Vea "PARA NIVELAR LA CAJA DE

LA SEGADORA" en Ia secci6n de Servicio y

Ajustes de este manual.

• El tado izquierdo de ta segadora se debe usar

para recorte.

. Maneje de modo que los recortes se descar-

guen en el _.rea que ya ha sido cortada. Man-

tenga el _.rea de corte a la derecha del tractor,

Esto producir& unadistribuci6n m&s pareja de

los recortes y un corte m&s uniforme.

• AI segar las ,_rea grandes, empiece girando a

la derecha de modo que los recortes se des-

carguen, alej&ndose de los arbustos, cercos,

entradas deautomdviles, etc. Despu_s de una

o dos vueltas, siegue en ta direcci6n opuesta;

haciendo virajes a la izquierda, hasta que

termine.

• Si et c_sped est& demasiado alto, se debe

segar dos veces para reducir ta carga y tos

posibles peligros de incendio debido a Ios

recortes secos. Haga el primer corte relativa-

rnente alto; el segundo a la altura deseada.

• No siegue eI cL=spedcuando eat&mojado. El

c_sped mojado taponar& la segadora y dejar_.

montones indeseables. Permita que se seque

eI c_sped antes de segado.

" Siempre opere el motor con una aceleracibn

completa cuando siegue para asegurarae

de conseguir un mejor rendimiento y una

descarga apropiada de Ios materiales. Regule

la velocidad de recorrido seleccionando un

cambio Iosuficientemente bajo para obtener un

rendimiento de corte de parte de su segadora

y tambi6n la calidad det corte deseada.

- Cuando opere con accesorios, selecoione una

velocidad de recorrido que se acomode al ter-

reno y le permita obtener el mejor rendimiento

deI accesorio que se es_ usando.

RECOMENDACIONES GENERALES

La garantia de este tractor no cubre los articu-

los que han estado sujetos al abuso o a la neg-

ligencia del operador. Para recibirtodo el valor

de Ia garantia, el operador tiene que mantener

la segadora seg6n [as instrucciones descritas

en este manual.

Hay algunos ajustes que se tienen que hacer

en forma peribdica para poder mantener su

tractor adecuadamente.

At menos una vez carla estaci6n comprobar

si es necesario efectuar los adjustes descritos

en ]as secciones de Servicio y Ajustes de este

manual.

° Una vez al aria, cambie la bujia, limpie o

cambie el filtro de aire y revise si las cuchiI-

]as y tas correas est&n desgastadas. Una bu-

jia nueva y un fiRro de aire ]impioaseguran

una mezcla de aire-combustible adecuada y

Ie ayudan a que su motor funcione mejor y

que dure mas.

ANTES DE CADA usa

1. Revise et nivel del aceite de[ motor.

2. Revise la operacion de los frenos.

3. Revise la presi6n de las Ilantas.

4, Ver_que que e] sistema de presencia del

operado y ROS funcionen adecuatamente.

en farina moderada.

• Mantenga las Ilantas sin gasolina, aceite o

substancias qufrnicas para control de insectos

que pueden daSar la goma.

• Evite los tocones, las piedras, las grietas pro-

fundas, los objetos afilados y otros peligros que

pueden dafiar a las llantas.

AVISO: Para arreglar las Ilantas perforadas

y p_ra prevenir que tenga Ilantas pinchadas a

causa de pequeSas fugas, puede comprar el

selto para Itantas de su cornerciante de partes de

repuesto rn&s cercano. Elsello previene que las

Ilantas se sequen y tambi6n la c-orrosi6n.

rruptor de Itave del sisterna de funcionamiento

atra_s(ROS) en Ia posici6n "ON" y el embrague

del accesorio conectado,cualquier tentativa del

operador de viajar marcha atr&s, NO apagar&

el motor.

CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLA

Para obtener resultados6ptimos, lascuchillasde

Ia cortadora deben estar afiladas. Reemplace tas

cuchillasque est_ngastadas,dobladaso da.fiadas.

REMOCION DE LA CUCHILLA

I. Levante la segadora a su posici6n m&s alta

para permiUrel acceso a Jas cuchiltas.

AVISO: Proteja sus manos con guantes y/o

envuelva la cuchilla con una tela gruesa,

2. Remueva el perno de Ia cuchilla dandole

vueltas en el sentido inverso al de las agujas

del re[oj.

3. tnstale la nueva cuchilla con el estampado

'q'HIS SIDE UP" en fa direccion de la sega-

dora y del conjunto del mandril.

IMPORTANTE: Para asegurar ]a instalacionap-

ropiada,posicionee] agujero central de la cuchilla

con Ia estre}ladel conjuntodel mandril,

BATERiA

Su tractor cuenta con un sistema de carga de la

bateria que es suficiente para et uso normal. Sin

embargo, si se carga Ia bateria peri6dicamente,

con an cargador de autom6viles, se prolongar&

su duraci6n.

• Mantenga la bater_a y los terminales limpios.

• Mantenga los pemos de la bater_a apretados.

• Mantenga los agujeros de ventilaciSn peque-

_os abiertos.

• Vuelva a cargar de 6-10 amperes pot I hora.

AMISO: La bateria del equipo original de su

tractor no becesita servicio. No intente abrir o

remover las tapas o cubiertas. No esnecesario

aSadir o verif_car el nivel deI electrblito.

PARAUMPIAR LA BATERiAY LOSTER M]NALES

La corrosi6n y la mugre de la bateda y de los

terminales pueden producir"escapes" de poten-

cia en la bateria.

1. Remueva Ia protecci6n de los terminales.

2. Desconecte el cable de la bater[a NEGRO

pdmero y luego el cable de Ia baterla ROJO

y remueva Ia baterta del tractor.

3. Enjuague la bateria con agua corriente y

s_quela.

4. Limpie los termina[es y Ios extrernos det cable

de ta baterfa con un cepi]lo de alambre hasta

que queden brillantes.

5. Cubra los terminafes con grasa o parafina.

6. Reinstate la bateda (Vea "Reernplazar la

Bateria" en la secciSn de Servicio y ajustes

de este manual).

CORREAS V

Revise las correas V para verificar si existe

deterioro y desgaste despu_s de 100 horas de

operaci6n y c&mbielas si es necesario. Las cor-

reas no son ajustabies, Cambie tas correas si

empiezan a deslizarse debido al desgaste.

ENFRIAMtENTO DEL TRANSEJE

Las aletas de enfdamiento y el ventilador de la

transmisi6n tienen que mantenerse limpios para

asegurar el enfriamiento adecuado.

No trate de limpiar el ventilador o la transmisi6n

cuando el motor est6 funcionando o mientras la

transmisi6n est@caliente.

• Inspeccione el ventilador de enfriamiento para

asegurarse que tas aspas del ventilador est6n

intactas y Iimpias.

° lnspeccione las aletas de enfriarniento para

vedficar si hay mugre, recortes de c@sped u

otros materiales. Para impedir daSos a ]as

juntas, no use un rociador de aire compresado

o de alta presi6n para limpiar Fasaletas de

enfriamiento

NIVEL DEL FLUIDO DE LA BOMBA DEL

TRANSEJE

El transeje ha side sellado en _a f,_brica y el

mantenimiento del fluido no es necesario para la

vida del transeje. En el caso de que el transeje

se filtrase o necesitase servicio, haga el favor de

ponerse en contacto con un centro de servicio

Sears ocon un otro centro de servicio cualificado.

MOTOR

LUBRICACION

Use solamente aceite de detergente de alta

calidad clasificado con la clasificaciSnSG-SL de

servicio API. Seleccione la calidad de viscosidad

de1 aceite SAE seg_n su temperatura de oper-

aci6n esperada.

CAUDADES DE VtSCO_IC_AD OE SAE

AVISO: A pesar de que los aceites de multivisco-

sidad (5W30, 10W30, etc.) mejoran el arranque

en climafTio, estos aceites de multiviscosidad van

a aumentar e] consumo de aceite cuando se usan

en temperaturas sobre 32° F (0° C). Revise el

nivel del aceite del motor m&s a menudo, para

evitar un posible da5o en el motor, debido a que

no tiene suficiente aceite.

Cambie el aceite despu_s de 50 horas de oper-

aci6n o pot Io menos una vez al aSo si el tTactor

se utiliza menos 50 horas el aho.

Revise el nivel det aceite del c&rter antes de ar-

rancar e] motor y despu@sde cada ocho (8) horas

de use continuado. Apriete la tapa deI rellenoi

varilta indicadora de nivel del aceite en forma

segura cada vez que revise el nivel del aceite.

PARA CAMBIAR ELACEITE DEL MOTOR

Determine la gama de la temperatura esperada

antes de cambiar el aceite. Todo el aceite debe

cumplir con la clasificaci6n de servicio API SG-SL.

* Aseg_rese que eltractor est@en unasuperficie

nivelada.

, Et aceite se drenar& m&s f&cilmente cuando

est_ caliente.

, Recoja el aceite en un envase adecuado.

t. Remueva la tapa!varilla indicadora de nivel

para relleno del aceite. Tenga cuidado de no

permiUrque la mugre entre en el motor cuando

cambie el aceite.

2. Des]iceelaccesorio de purgadel aceite desde

la posici6n de ensamblaje en el alojamiento

de la turbina del motor y sep&relo deI motor.

Para abrirlo, gire la tapa hacia Ia izquierda.

Una vez que haya vaciado completamenteel

aceite, vuelva a colocar la tapa y glrela hacia

la derecha hasta el tope.

5. Vuetvaa fijar et accesorio de purga del aceite

en el alojamiento de la turbina del motor.

6. Vuefva a llenar el motor con aceite a trav_s

del tubo de la varilla indicadora de niveI para

relleno del aceite. Vacielo lentamente. No Io

llene demasiado. Para la capacidad aproxi-

mada yea las"Especificaciones del Producto"

secci6n de este manual.

7. Use un medidor en latapaivarillaindicadoradel

niveI para rellenodel aceite para revisarelnivel.

Mantenga el aceite en la llnea de Ileno (FULL)

enla varilla indicadora de nivel. Apriete latapa

en el tubo en forma segura cuando termine.

FILTRO DE ACEITE DEL MOTOR

Cambie el filtro de aceite del motor cada tem-

porada ovez pot medio que cambie el aceite, si

el tractor se usa m_Lsde 100 horas en un afio.

FILTRO DE AIRE

Su equipo no funcionar& correctamente si el

filtro de aire est_ sucio. Carla 25 horas de fun-

cionamiento o en cada temporada, reemptace

el pre limpiador; y el cartucho donde viene el

papel [service paper cartridge] reempl&celo cada

100 horas de operacibn o en carla temporada,

seg_n el momento en el que primero eUo sea

necesario.

Lo que ocurre con mayor probabilidad es que el

timpiador del servicio de aire est_ sucio.

1. Quite lacubierta.

2. Con mucho cuidado, quite el cartucho del fi[tro

de aire y el pre limpiador de la base.

3. Limpie la base con mucho cuidado para evitar

que caiga ninguna partfcula en el carburador.

NOTA: Si el cartucho est_ muy sucio o da_ado,

reempl&celo.

4. Coloque firmemente en la base el nuevo pre

limpiador y et nuevo cartucho.

5. Cierre la cubierta.

IMPORTANTE: Para timpiar el cartucho no se

pueden usar solventes derivados del petr61eo,

como el keroseno, porque pueden deteriorar el

cartucho. No engrase el cartucho; ni use aire a

presi6n para limpiarlo,

LIMFIEZA DE LA REJILLA DE AIRE

La pantalla de aire est& sobre el soplador de la

toma de aire que se ubica en ta parte superior

del motor. La pantalla de aire se debe mantener

libre de suciedad y paja para evitar que el motor

se dafie per sobrecalentamiento. Limpiecon un

cepillo de alambre o con aire comprimido para

reUrar la suciedad y las fibras de goma secas

dificiles de quitar.

SISTEMA DE ENFRIAMIENTO DE AIRE

Los escombrospueden atascar et sistema de en-

de este manual.

FILTRO DE COMBUSTIBLE EN LINEA

El filtro de combustible debe cambiarse una vez

cada temporada. Si el filtro de combustible se

tapona, obstruyendo elflujo del combustiblehacia

el carburador, es necesario cambiar[o.

1. Con el motor frio, remueva el fittro y tapone

las secciones de la linea de combustible,

2. Ponga el filtro de combustible nuevo en su

posici6n en Ia [inea de combustible con Ia

flecha seSatando hacia e] carburador.

3. Aseg_rese de que no hayan fugas en la

linea del combustible y que las grapas est6n

colocadas en forma adecuada.

4. tnmediatamente limpie toda la gasolina tier-

ramada.

LIMPIEZA

• Umpie todo material ex_rafio del motor, la

bateria, e] asiento, el pulido, etc.

• Limpie los desechos de la place guia. Los

desechos pueden limitar el movimiento del eje

del pedal del freno/embrague, Io que har& que

patine la correa y que se pierda la tracci6n,

' Mantenga las superficies pulidas y las ruedas

sin derrames de gasolina, aceite, etc.

Proteja las superficies pintadas con cera tipo

automotriz.

Excepto por el puerto de lavado (si est,_ inclui-

do), se recomienda no utilizer una manguera de

jardin ni el Iavado a presi6n pare limpiar la parte

externa de su tractor, a menos que el motor y la

transmisidn estL_ncubiertos pare protegerlos del

ague. Si entre agua en el motor o Ia transmisi6n

se reducir_ Ia v]da _iI del tractor. Utilice aim

comprimidoo un soplador de hojaspara retirarel

c@sped,las hojasy la basura de la parte externa

del tractor y de Ia cortadora de c@sped.

PUERTO DE LAVADO DE LA CUBIERTA

La plataforma del tractor estd equipada con un

puerto de lavado como parts deI sistema de la-

vado de la plataforma. Se debe utilizar despu@s

de cada uso.

I. Lleve eltractor a un lugar horizontal y despejado

de su c_sped, Io bastante cerca de una boca

de riego como pare que llegue la manguera del

jardin.

IMPORTANTE: Aseg_rese de que labocadedes-

carga del Iractor estAorientada LEJOS de su casa,

garaje, coches aparcados, etc. Quite la boca de

ensacado o cubierta de mantillo si es_ acoplada.

2. Mueva el control del embrague del accesorio

a la posici6n "DESENGANOHADO", ponga el

freno de estacionamisnto y apague el motor.

& Enrosque el adaptador de la boquilla (empa-

quetado con el manual del operador del trac-

tor) en el extremo de la manguera del jardin.

4. Eche hacia atrds la abrazadera de cierre deI

adaptador de la boquilla y empuje _ste en el

puerto de lavado de la cubierta en el extremo

izquierdo de la cubierla de la segadora. Suelte

la abrazadera de cierre pare fijar el adaptador

en Ia boquilla.

IMPORTANTE: Tire de la manguera pare asegu-

rarse de que la conexi6n est& bien fija.

5. Abra la Ilave del ague,

6. Desde la posici5n del operador del tractor,

vuelva a arrancar el motor y ponga Japalanca

de aceleraci6n en la posici6n "Fast" (rdpido).

IMPORTANTE: Vuelva a revisar el &tea pare ase-

gurar que est_ despejada. Aseg_rese de que no

hayaniSosen el &reamientras limpia laplataforma.

7. Mueva el control del embrague del accesorio a

la posici6n "ENGANCHAR". Mant6ngase en la

posici6n del operador con la cubierta de corte

acoplada haste que la cubierta est_ limpia,

8. Mueva el control del embrague del accesorio a

Ia posici6n °DESENGANOHADO". Gire Ia tlave

de encendido ala posici6n STOP pare apagar

el motor deI tractor. Oierre la Ilave del agua.

9. Tire hacia atrds la abrazadera de cierre del

adaptador de la boquiBa pare desconectar el

adaptador del puerto de lavado de la cubierta.

10. Lleve el tractor e una zone seca, preferente-

merits de cemento o pavimentada. Mueva el

controldeI embrague del accesorio ale posici6n

"ENGANCHAR" pare quitar elexceso de agua y

ayudar aq ue seseq u e antes de guardar el tractor.

Tape todos los orlflolos de la segadora con I

pernos y tuercas de segurldad.

SERVICIO O DE HACER AJUSTES:

1. Presione el pedal del ernbrague/freno completamente y aplique el freno de estacionamiento.

2. Ponga la palanca de control de movimiento en la posici6n de neutro.

3. Ponga el ernbrague del accesorio en la posici6n desenganchado (DISENGAGED).

4. Ponga la ilave de ignici6n en la posici6n de apagado (STOP) y remu_vala.

5. Aseg_rese que Ias cuchillasy que todas las partes movibles se hayan detenido completamente.

6. Descenecte el alambre de la bujia y p6ngalo en deride no pueda entrar en contacto con _sta.

PARA DESMONTAR LA CORTADORA

DE ClaSPED "

1, Suelte et embrague poni_ndolo en la posici6n

"DISENGAGED" ("DESACTIVADO").

2. Baje la palanca elevadora de rnontaje a la

posici6n de m&s abajo.

3, Ruede la correa de polea del motor (M) y

fijadors de la correa (G).

4. Retire el resorts de sujeci6n (Ix-'),deslice [a

abrazadera (L) basra quitarla, y saque a

presi6n Ia gula de la caja (P) hasta que se

salga del soporte.

5. Retire el resorte del cable del embrague (Q)

del braze del engranaje (R).

6. Desconecte la pieza de uni6n anterior (E) de

la cortadora - retire el resorts de contenci6n

y la arandela.

7. Per uno de los lades de la cortadora, desco-

necte el braze de suspensi6n de Ia cortadora

(A) del chasis y la pieza de uni6n posterior (C)

de la barra posterior de la cortadora (D) - re-

tire los resortes de contenci6ny las arandelas.

_, CUlDADO: Una vez que se desconecten las

piezas de uni6n posteriores, ta palanca e/evadora

_Jncionard a resorte° Sujete con fuerza la palanca

e]evadora al cambiarla de posici6n,

8, Deslice Ia cortad0ra per debajo deI lade

derecho de] tractor.

IMPORTANTE: Si se monta un accesorio dife-

rente del cortac_sped aI tractor, hay que quitar

el estribo frontal (E) y los estribos tmseros de

elevaci6n (C) del tractor y enganchar el resorts

de embrague (Q) en la guia del cable en el borde

frontal del satpicadero m&s bajo.

INSTALE LA SEGADORA

Aseg_rese de que el tractor se encuentre en una

superficie nivelada, y ponga el freno de mane.

t, Haga descender la palanca elevadora a su

_1 posici6n m_.sbaja.

CUIDADO: La palanca e]evadora funciona

a resorte. Suj6tela con fuerza, h_gata descender

lentamente y trdnquela en la posici6n m&s baja.

NOTA: Cerci6rese de que los brazes de sus-

pensi6n de los lades de la segadora (A) est_n

dirigidos hacia adelante antes de deslizar]a per

2. Deslice la SEGADORA per debajo del tractor

hasta que quede biencentrada debajo de _ste.

3. FIJE LOS BRAZOS DE SUSPENSION LATE-

RALES DE LA CORTADORA (A) AL CHASIS -

Ubique el orificio del braze encima de laclavija

(B) que hay en la parte exterior def chasis del

tractor, y fijelo con una resorts de contenci6n,

Realice el mismo procedimiento en el otro

lado de[ tractor.

FIJE LAS PIEZAS DE PROPULSION POS-

TER[ORES (O) - Levante {a parte posterior

de la cortadora, ubique la ranura de la pieza

de unidn (D) por encirna de la clavija que hay

en la barra posterior de la cortadora y fijela

con una arandela y unresorte de contencibn.

9. Retire el resorte de sujeciSn (K), deslice {a

abrazadera (L) hasta quitarla, y saque a

presi6n la guia de la caja (P) hasta que se

salga del soporte.

10, Instate ta correa pas&ndola por encima de la

polea del motor (M) y fijadors de }a correa

(G).

6. FIJE LA PIEZA DE UNION ANTERIOR (E)

- Trabaje pot el fado izquierdo de] tractor.

Introduzca e] extreme de la barra de la pieza

de unidn por el orificio anterior de la barra de

suspensiSn anterior de] tractor (F).

7. introduzca el otto extrerno de Ia pieza de

uni6n (E) en el orifioio que se encuentra en

Ia barra anterior de la cortadora (H), y fijelo

por medi0 de una arandela y un resorte de

contenci6n (J),

8. Retire el resorte del cable del embrague (Q)

del brazo de] engranaje (R).

IMPORTANTE" Verifique que la correa encaje

bien en todas las ranuras de las poleas de la

cortadora.

11. Suba fa palanca elevadora a la posicibn de

m&s arriba.

I2. Si es necesario, ajuste Ias rueditas del calibre

antes de poner en funcionarniento la corta-

dora, como se ilustra en el capitulo de Manejo

de este manual.

PARA NIVELAR LA SEGADORA

Asegflrese de que los neum_.ticos est_n inflados

a ta PSi que se indica en estos. Si est&n de-

masiado inffados o poco inflados, el c6sped no

le quedar& bien cortado, 1ocual podr& Ilevar]o a

pensar que la segadora no est_ bien regulada.

REGULACION VISUAL DE LADe A LADe

1. Si redes los neum&ticos est,_n correctamente

inflados y el c@sped parece haber quedado

cortado desparejo, determine qu_ lade de la

cortadora est& cortando mds aJras.

2. Con una liave inglesade 3/4"o de calibre reg-

ulabie, haga girar hacia la izquierda Ia tuerca

de ajuste de la pieza de uni6n (A) para bajar

lade izquierdo la cortadora, o bien h&gala girar

bacia lade derecho Ia derecha para subirla.

NOTA: Cada vuelta completa de la tuerca de

ajuste har& variar ]a altura de la cortadora aproxi-

madamente 3/16".

5. Vuelva a verificar las medidas y ajuste nueva-

mente, en case necesario, hasta que ambos

Iados queden iguales.

AJUSTE DE DELANTE A ATR_,S

IMPORTANTE: El piso debe quedar bien hive-

lade de {adoa lade.

Para que el c_sped Ie quede peffectamente cor-

tado, las cuchillas de la cortadora deben ajustarse

de ta_manera que la punta anterior quede 1/8"a

1/2" m&s abajo que la punta posterior cuando la

cortadora se encuentre en su posiciSnm_s alta.

_bCUIDADO: t_ascuohillas son affiadas. Prot_-

jase las manes con guantes o envuelva lascuchiI-

las con te[a gruesa, o bien haga ambas cosas.

• Suba la segadora a la posici6n m&s alta.

• Ubique cualquiera de las hojas de Ia cuchilla

de tal manera que la punta quede apuntando

directamente hacia adelante. Mida ta distancia

(B) que hay entre la punta anterior y el sueio y

entre la punta posterior y el suelo.

3. Pruebe fa regufaci6n reaiizada cortando

ce_spedque a0n no baya cortado y observando

come queda, Vuelva a ajustar, en case nece-

sario, hasta obtener resultadossatisfactorios.

REGULACfON DE LA PRECISION DE LADe

1. Con redes los neum_.tioos correctamente

inflados, estacione el tractor a nivel del suelo

o en la entrada a la casa.

_t, CUIDADO: Las cuchillas son afifadas. Prot_-

jase las manes con guantes o envuefva lascuchil-

las con tela gruesa, o bien baga ambas cosas.

2. Suba la segadora a la posici6n m&s atta.

3. A ambos lades de la cortadora, ubique la

cuchilla bacia un lade y mida la distancia (A)

que bay entre el borde inferior de ta cuchiI]a

y el suelo. Dicha distancia debe ser la misma

a ambos lades.

4. En case que sea necesario realizar un ajuste,

lea los paso 2 de las instrucciones de Regu-

laci6n Visual que aparecen m&s arriba.

• Si la punta anteriorde la hoja de la cuchilIa no

est& 1/8" a 1/2" m_s abajo que la punta poste-

rior, dirfjase a la parte de adelante del tractor.

° Con una ltave inglesa de I1/16" o de calibre

regulable, afloje la tuerca A, d&ndole varias

vueltas para despejar la tuerca de ajuste B.

° Con una Ilave ajustable de 3/4", gire Ia tuerea

de ajuste de eslabbn frontal (B) hacia la dere-

cha ((_) (apriete) para elevar et frente de la

cortadorade c_sped, o bacia la izquierda (_-'_)

(afloje) para bajar el frente de ]a cortadora

de c_sped.

• Vuelva a verificar las medidas y ajuste nueva-

mente, en case necesario, basra que la punta

anterior de la hoja de la cuchilla quede t/8" a

I/2" m&s abajo que la punta posterior.

• Manten_a en ta posiciSn la tuerca de ajuste

per memo de una Ilave inglesa, y apriete bien

la tuerca centre dicha tuerca de ajuste.

PARA CAMBIAR LA CORREA DE IMPULSI6N

DE LA CUCHILLA SEGADORA

La correa de imputsi6n de la cuchilla segadora

se puede carnbiar sin herramientas. Estacione el

tractor en una superficie nivelada. Enganche el

freno de estacionamiento.

REMOCION DE LA CORREA

1. Remueva la segadora del tractor (Vea"PARA

REMOVER LA SEGADORf_' de esta secci6n

de este manual).

2. Haga saLirla correa de las poleas del mandril

y de las poleas de guia.

3. Tire la correa alej_.ndola de Ia segadora.

INSTALACI6N DE LA CORREA

1. Haga rodar la correa alredeor de ambas

poleas del mandrin y de Ias poleas-guias.

2. Aseg_rese las correas esten en todas las

ranuras de las peleas y al interior todas las

guias de la correa.

3. Instalelasegadora (v_a"PARAINSTALARLA

SEGADORA"en esta secci6n de este manual).

MONTAJE DE LA CORREA

t. Instale Ia correa nueva de la parte de atr,_s

a la parte de adelante del tractor, pae&ndola

pot encima de la placa de direcci6n (F) y de1

v&stago de1 pedal del embrague / freno (G).

2. Jate la correa hacia ta parte de adelante del

tractor y p&selopor sobre lapolea de tmotor (E).

3. Jale Ia correa hacia la parte de atr&s del

tractor. Con mucho cuidado, rnueva Ia correa

hacia abajo y p&sela alrededor del ventilador

de transmisi6n y por encima de Ia polea de

entrada (D). Cerci6rese de que la correa

est_ calzada dentro del guardacorrea.

4. Coloque Ia correa sobre el pi56n central (C).

5. Pase Ia correaa tray,s del pi_6n estacionario

(A) y det pifi6n del embrague (B).

6. Aseg#rese de que la correa catee en todas

las ranuras de [as poleas y dentro de todas

las guias y guardacorreas..

5. Instate la SEGADORA (Vet "PARA MONTAR

LA SEGADOPJ_.'en este cap_tulodal manual).

PARA REEMPLAZAR LA CORREA DE TRANS-

MISlbN

Estacione el tractor en una superficie nivelada.

Ponga el freno de mano. Si necesita asistencia,

del Iado de abajo del apoyapi_s hay una guia

pr&cticapara el montaje de la correa.

DESMONTAJE DE LA CORREA

1. Desmonte la cortadora (Ver"PAPA DESMON-

TAR LA CORTADORA_' en este capitulo deI

manuaL).

NOTE: Observe toda la correa de transmisi6n y la

posicibn de todas las guias y guardacorreas.

2. Retire la correa del pi56n estac_onario (A) y

deI pifi6n de embrague (B).

3. Retire Ia correa del pi56n central (C).

6. Jale ef cable de la correa hacia la parte de

atr&sdel tractor. Con mucho cuidado, retire

Ia correa de la poIea de entrada de la trans-

misi6n, movi_ndola hacia arriba y pas&ndola

por encima de las paletas del ventllador (D).

4. Retire ta correa de Ia polea del motor movi_-

ndoIa hacia abajo (E).

5. DesIice Ia correa hacia la parte de atr&s del

tractor, retirela de la placa de direcci6n (F_y

qultela del tractor.

CONTROLAR Y AJUSTAR EL FRENO

Si el tractor exige m_.s de cinco (5) pies para

pararse a una velocidad m_s alta en el cambio

m_.salto en una superficie nivelada de horrnig6n

seco o pavimentada, entonces se debe controlar

y ajustar el freno.

CONTROL DEL FRENO

1. Aparcar el tractor en una superficie nivelada

de hormig6n seco o pavimentada, presionar

el pedal del freno basra el rondo y accionar

el freno de estacionamiento.

2. Desembragar la transmisi6n colocando el

mando de ta rueda libre en Ia posicibn "trans-

misi6n desembragada". Tirar et mando de [a

rueda fibre fuera y dentro la ranura y soltar

asi se coloca en la posici6n desembragada.

Las ruedas traseras tiene que bloquearse y pa-

tinar cuando se intenta empujar hacia adetante

el tractor manualmente. Sustituir las zapatas del

freno o contactar con Sears o con un ottocentro

de servicio cualificado.

PARA REMOVER LAS RUEDAS

1. Bloquee el eje en forma segura.

2. Remueva la cubiertadel eje, el aniflo de reten-

ci6n y las aranderas para perm_r la remoci6n

de las ruedas (Ia rueda trasera contiene una

Uave cuadrada - no ta pierda).

3. Repare la Ilanta y vu_lva]a a montar.

AVISO: En las ruedas traseras solamente:alinee

las ranuras en el cubo de la rueda trasera en el

eje. lnserte la tlave cuadrada.

4. Vuelva a co]ocar Ias arandelas e inserte el

anillo de retanci6n en forma segura en la

ranura del eje.

5. Vuelva a colocar ]a cubierta del eje.

AVISO: Para arreglar tas Ilantas perforadas

y p6ra prevenir que tenga llantas pinchadas a

causa de pequefias fugas, comprar de su com-

mercfante Sears y utilizar eJ sello para Ilantas.

EJsello previene que las Ilantas se sequen y

tambi_n la corrosi6n.

DELANTERAS

La impresibne inclinaci6n de las ruedas delan-

teras de su nuevo tractor vienen asl de f&brica y

son normales. La Jmpresi6n y la inclinaci6nde las

ruedas delanteras no son regulables. En caso

que se produzca algOn dafio que afecte la im-

presi6n o la inclinaciSnde ]as ruedas delanteras

talcomo vinieronde f&brica,p6ngase en contacto

con un centrode serviciosSears u otro centrode

servicios autorizado.

REGULACI6N DE LA PALANCADECONTROL

DEL MOV|MIENTO NEUTRO DEL CAMBIO

MECANICO

La palanca de control del movimiento del cam-

bio mec&nico ya viene predefinida por la Casa

constructora y pot Io tanto no requiere ulteriores

regulaciones.

t. Aflojar iigeramente el perno de regulaci6n en

Ia parte anterior de la ruedaposteriorderecha;

2. Poner en marcha el motor y mover la palanca

de conl_oI del movimiento del cambio mec_ni-

co hasta Ilevarla en una posici6n en laque no

se pueda mover ni adelante ni atr&s;

3. Mantener Ia palanca de control del movi-

miento de1cambio mec_nico en esta posici6n

y apagar el motor;

4. Manteniendo la pafanca en la posicibn arriba

indicada, aflojar el perno de regulaci6n;

.5, Mover la palanca de control de] movimiento

en posiei6n neutro (cierre met_lico);

6. Enroscar bien el perno de regulacibn.

AVISO: Dasplazar el _lanodetrabajo de la sega-

dora hasta la posici6n m&s baja para aumentar el

juego aI fin de acceder aI perno de regulaci6n.

Si el tractor sigue desliz&ndose adelante y atr_.s,

despu@sde esta regulaci6n y con la palanca en

posici6nneutro, efectuar Ias operaciones indica-

das de seguida,

1. Aflojar el perno de regulaci6n,

2. Moverla palancade control deI movimiento de

1/4o1/2 pulgar en IadirecciSnde deslizamiento.

3, Enroscar bien el perno de regulaci6n,

4. Poner en marcha el motor y probarlo,

5. Si el tractor sigue deslizando, repetir tas

operaciones arriba indicadas hasta alcanzar

los resultados deseados.

PARA HACER ARP_,NCAR EL MOTOR CON

UNA BATERiA BAJA

_DVERTENClA: Las baterias de &cido-pIomo

generan gases explosives.Mantenga faschispas,

las llamas y los materiales para fumar alejados de

[as baterfas. Siempre use una protecci6npara los

ojos alrededor de las baterias.Si su bateria est&

demasiado baja como para hacer arrancar el mo-

tor tiene que volverse a cargar. (Vea "Bateria" en

]a secciSn de Mantenimiento de este manual).

Si se usan "cables de empa]me" para un arranque

de emergencia, siga este procedimiento:

IMPORTANTE: Su tractor esta equipado con un

sistema de 12 volts. Elotto vehiculo tambi@ntiene

que tener un sistema de 12 volts, No use Ia bateria

de su tractor para hater arrancar a otros vehiculos.

PARAADJUNTAR LOS CABLES DE EMPALME-

1. Conecte cada extremo deJ cable ROJO con

el terminal (A-B) POSITIVO (+) de cada

bateria, preocup&ndose de no hacer corto-

circuito en el chasis.

2. Conecte un extremo del cable NEGRO

con et terminal (C) NEGATIVO (-) de una

bater_a completamente cargada.

3. Conecte el otto extremo deI cable (D) NE-

GRO con un buena CONEXION A TIERRA

DEL CHASIS, alejado del estanque de

combustible y de la bateria.

PARA REMOVER LOS CABLES, INVtERTA EL

1. El cable NEGRO primero deI chasis y Iue9o

de ta baterla completamente cargada,

2, El cable ROJO al flltimo de ambas baterias.

REEMPLAZAR LA BATERIA

II_I_DVERTENCIA: No haga cortocircuito con Ios

terminales de la bateria al permitirque una ltave

detuercao cualquierotroobjetoentre en contacto

con ambos termlnales ala misma vez. Antes de

instalar la baterla remueva Ias pulseras de metal,

los relojes de pu]sera de metal, los an!lies, etc.

El terminalpositivetiene que conectarse primero

pare ev[tar las oh!spas deb[do ala conexi6n a

tierra per accidente.

1. Levante el asiento ala posici6n elevada.

2. Remueve la protecci6nde los terminales.

con el terminal positive (+) con el perno

hexagonal y la tuerca seg_n se muestra.

PARA CAMBIAR LA BOMBILLA DE LA LUZ

DELANTERA

1. Levante el capote.

2. Tire el sujetador de la bombiUa fuera del

agujero en la parte trasera del enrejado.

3. Cambie la bombilla en el sujetadory empuje

el sujetador de la bomb!lie, en forma segura,

hacia atr_s en el agujero en Ia parte trasera

del enrejado.

4. Cierre el capote.

PARA CAMBIAR EL FUSIBLE

C_.mbielo per un fusible t[po enchufable de 30

amps, tipo automotdz. El sujetador del fusible

est& ubicado detrbsdel tablero.

ENTRECIERRE Y RELES

El alambrado suelto o daSado puede producir el

mal funcionamiento de su tractor, o que deje de

MOTOR

PARA AJUSTAR EL CABLE DE CONTROL DE

LA ACELERACION

El controlde la aceleraoi6n ha side preajustado en

Ia f&bdca y no deberfa necesitar ajustes, Revise

los ajustes que se describen a continuac|Sn,antes

de soltar el cable. Si e] ajuste es necesario, yea

de manual de motor.

PAPA AJUSTAR EL CONTROL DE

ESTRANGULACI()N

El control de la estrangulaci6n ha side preajusta-

do en la fdbrica y no deberia necesitar ajustes.

Inmediatamenteprepare su tractor para el al-

macenamiento al final de la temporada o si el

tractor no se va a usar per 30 dias o re&s,

_vADVERTENCIA: Nunca almacene el tractor

con gasolina en el estanque dentro de un edificio

en donde los gases pueden alcanzar una llama

expuesta o una chispa. Permita que el motor se

enfrie antes de almacenarlo en cualquier recinto

privado.

TRACTOR

Cuando et tractor se va a almacenar per cierto

periodo de tiempo, Ifmpie]a cuidadosamente,

quite toda [a mugre, la grasa, Ias hojas, etc,

Gu&rdela en una ,_rea limpia y seca.

1. Limpie todo el tractor (yea "LIMPIEZ_._'en Ia

secci6n de Mantenimiento en este manual).

2. Inspeccione y cambie Ias correas, si es nec-

esario (yea las instrucciones para el cambio

de las correas en la secciSn de Servicio y

Ajustes de este manual).

3. Lubriquelo, seg_n se muestra en Ia secci6n

de Mantenimiento de este manual,

4. Asegerese que todas las tuercas, los pemos y

los torniltos est_n sujetados en forma segura,

Inspecciene Iaspartes movibles para verificar

si hay daSo, rotura o desgaste. Cbmbielas si

es necesario.

5. Retoque todas superficies p{ntadas oxidadas

o picadas; aplique lija antes de pintar.

BATERIA

° Cargue la bateria completamente antes de

guardarla,

- Despu@s de cierto periodo de tiempo en

almacenamiento, la baterta puede necesitar

volver a cargarse,

• Para ayudar a evitar Ia corrosi6n y las fugas

de potencia durante largos periodos de alma-

cenamiento, se deben desconectar los cables

de la bateria y se debe limpiar ouidadosamen-

te (yea "PARA LIMPIAR LA BATERIA Y LOS

TERMINALES" en ]a secci6n de Mantenimien-

tode este manual).

• Despu@s de limpiarla, deje los cables

desconectados y p6ngalos en donde no

puedan entrar en contacto con los terminales

de la bated&

• Si se remueve la bateda del tractor para el

almacenamiento, no la guarde directamente

sobre concrete o sobre superficies h_medas.

MOTOR

SISTEMA DE COMBUSTIBLE

IMPORTANTE: Es important evitar que se for-

man depositos de goma en partes fundamen-

tales del sistema de combus-tibletales come el

carburador, el filtro del combustible, Ia manguera

del combustibles mezctados con alcohol

(conocido come gasohol o que tienen etanol o

metanol) pueden atraer humedad, to que con-

duce a la separaci6n y a la formaci6n de acudos

durante elalmacenamiento. La gasolina acidica

puede daSar el sistema de combustible de un

motor durante el periodo de almacenamiento.

° Vaciar el depSsito del carburante poniendo en

marcha el motor y dej&ndolo funcionar hasta

que el carburante termine el carburador est_

vac_o.

• Nunca use los productos para Iimpieza del

carburador o deI motor en el estanque de

combustible pues se pueden producir dafios

permanentes.

• Use combustible nuevo la pr6xima

temporada.

AVISO: El estabilizador de combustible es una

alternativa aceptable para reducir a un minimo

la formaci6n de dep6sitos de goma en el com-

bustible durante el periodo de almacenamiento.

Agregue estabilizador a la gasolina en el es-

tanque de combustible o en el envase para el

almacenamiento. Siempre siga Ia proporci6n de

mezcla que se encuentra en el envase deI esta-

bilizador, Haga funcionar el motor per Io menos

t0 minutes despu_s de agregar el estabilizador,

para permitir que _ste !legue al cacburador, No

vaciar la gasolina del estanque de gaso]ina y el

carburador si se est_ usando estabilizador de

combustible.

ACEITE DEL MOTOR

Drene el aceite {con el motor caliente) y c_.mbielo

con aceite de motor limpio. (Vea "MOTOR" en Ia

secci6n de Mantenimiento" de este manuaL)

CILtNDRO(S)

1, Rernueva Ia(s) bujia(s).

2, Vacie una onza de aceite a trav@s del

agujero(s) de Ia bujia en et citindro(s).

3, Gire la Ilave de ignici6n a la posici6n de 'Ar-

ranque" (Start), per unos cuantos segundos

para distribuir el aceite.

4. Cambie per bujia(s) nueva(s).

OTROS

• No guarde la gasolina de una temporada a la

otra.

• Cambie et envase de Ia gasolina si se emp-

ieza a oxidar. La oxidaci6n y/o la mugre en su

gasolina producir&nproblemas.

• Si es posible, guarde su unidad en un recinto

cerrado y c_brala para protegerla contra el

polvoy la mugre.

• Cubra su unidad con un forro protector ad-

ecuado que no retenga la humedad. No use

pl&stico. El pi&stico no puede respirar, Io que

permite Ia formaci6n de condensaci6n, Io que

producir& Faoxidaci6nde su unidad,

IMPORTANTE: Nunca cubra el tractor mientras

el motor y las areas de escape todavia estan

calientes.
