LIMITED "TWO YEAR WARRANTY ON CRAFTSMAN POWER MOWER

For two years from date of purchase, when this Craftsman Lawn Mower is maintained,

lubricated, and tuned up according to the operating and maintenance instructions in the

owner's manual, Sears will repair free of charge any defect in material or workmanship.

If this Craftsman Lawn Mower is used for commercial or rental purposes, this warranty

applies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.

This Warranty does not cover:

• Expendable items which become worn during normal use, such as rotary mower

blades, blade adapters, belts, air cleaners and spark plug.

• Repairs necessary because of operator abuse or negligence, including bent crank-

shafts and the failure to maintain the equipment according to the instructions con-

tained in the owner's manual°

Warranty service is available by returning the Craftsman power mower to the nearest

Sears Service Center/Department in the United States. This warranty applies only while

this product is in use in the United States.

This Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which

vary from state to state_

PREPARATION:

. Always thoroughly check the area to be

mowed and clear it of all stones, sticks,

wires, bones, and other foreign objects.

These objects will be thrown by the

blade and can cause severe injury.

• Always wear safety glasses or eye

shields when starting and while using

your mower.

• Dress properly, Do not operate mower

when barefoot or wearing open san-

dals, Wear only solid shoes with good

traction when mowing,

o Check fuel tank before starting engine.

Do not fill gas tank indoors, when the

hot. Allow the engine to cool for several

minutes before filling the gas tank.

Clean off any spilled gasoline before

starting the engine.

° Always make wheel height adjustmenis

before starting your mower. Never

attempt to do this while the engine is

running.

o Mow only in daylight or good artificial

lighL

OPERATION:

• Keep your eyes and mind on your

mower and the area being cut. Do not

let other interests distract you.

o Do not mow wet or slippery grass.

Never run while operating your mower.

Always be sure of your footing -- keep

a firm hold on the handles and walk_

• Do not put hands or feet near or under

rotating parts. Keep clear of the dis-

charge opening at all time&

o Always stop the engine whenever you

leave or are not using your mower, or

before crossing driveways, walks, roads,

and any gravel--covered areas.

° Never direct discharge of material

toward bystanders nor allow anyone

near the mower while you are Qperat=ng

Before cleaning, inspecting, or repairing

your mower, stop the engine and make

absolutely sure the blade and all moving

parts have stopped_ ]hen disconnect

the spark plug wire and keep it away

from the spark plug to prevent acciden-

tal starting.

o Do not continue to run your mower if

you hit a foreign object° Follow the pro-

cedure outlined above, then repair any

damage before restarting and operating

you mower.

• Do not change the governor settings or

overspeed the engine, Engine damage

or personal injury may result,

• Do not operate your mower if it vibrates

abnormally, Excessive vibration is an in-

dication of damage; stop the engine,

and repair as required.

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE:

o Check the blade and the engine mount-

ing bolts often to be sure they are tight-

ened properly.

o Check all bolts, nuts and screws at fie-

quent intervals for proper tightness to be

sure mower is in safe working condition.

° Keep all safety devices in place and

working.

, To reduce fire hazard, keep the engine

free of grass, leaves,or excessive

grease and oil

o Check grass catcher often for deteriora-

tion and wear and replace worn bags.

Use only replacemeqt bags that are rec-

ommended by and comply with specifi-

cations of the manufacturer of your

mower.

" Always keep a sharp' blade on your

mower.

° Allow engine to cool before storing in

any enclosure.

• Never store mower with fuel in the tank

inside a building where fumes may

reach an open flame or an ignilion

source such as a hot water heater,

space heater, clothes dryer, etc.

CAUTION: Always disconnect spark

plug wire and place wire where it can-

not contact spark plug in order to pre-

vent accidental starting when setting

up, transporting, adjusting or making

repairs.

The engine exhaust from this product

contains chemicals known to the State

of California to cause cancer, birth

defects, or other reproductive harm.

These accessories were available when this lawn mower was produced. They are also

available at most Sears retail outlets and service centers. Most Sears stores can also

order repair parts for you, when you provide the model number of your lawn mower. Some

of these accessories may not apply to your lawn mower.

Read these instructibns and this manual in

its entirety before you attempt to assemble

or operate your new lawn mower. Your new

lawn mower has been assembled at the

factory with the exception of those parts left

unassembled for shipping purposes. All

parls such as nuts, washers, bolts, etc.,

necessary to complete the assembly have

been placed in the parts bag, To ensure

safe and proper operation of your lawn

mower, all parts and hardware you assem-

ble must be tightened securely. Use the

correct tools as necessary to ensure proper

tightnes&

TO REMOVE LAWN MOWER FROM

CARTON

• Remove loose parts included with mower.

• Cut down two end comets of carton and

lay end panel down flat.

• Remove all packing materials except

padding between upper and lower handle

and padding holding operator presence

control bar to upper handle.

• Roll lawn mower out of carton and check

carton thoroughly for additional loose

parts.

HOW TO SET UP YOUR LAWN

MOWER

TO UNFOLD HANDLE

IMPORTANT: Unfold handles carefully so

as not to pinch or damage control cables.

. Raise handles until lower handle section

locks into place in mowing position.

• Remove protective padding, raise upper

handle section into place on lower handle

and tighten both handle knobs.

. Remove handle padding holding operator

presence control bar to upper handle.

• Your lawn mower handle can be adjusted

for your mowing comfort. Refer to "Adjust

Handle" in the Service and Adjustment

section of this manual,

NOTE: For shipping purposes, the rear

wheels on your lawn mower are not

adjusted to the same positlon as the

front wheels. Before operating 'mower

adjust all wheels to the same cutting

height position.

TO INSTALL ATTACHMENTS

Your lawn mower was sl_ipped ready to be

used as a mulcher To convert to bagging

or discharging:

o Open rear door and remove mulcher

plug. Store mulcher plug in a safe place,

o You can now install catcher or optional

clipping deflector,

o To return to mulching operation, install

mulcher plug into discharge opening of

mower. Be sure all tabs are seated prop°

erly.

HOW TO USEYOUR LAWN MOWER

CAUTION: Do not run your lawn

mower without mulcher plate in place

and door closed or without an approved

clipping deflector or grasscatcher in

place. Never attempt to operate the

lawn mower with the rear door removed

or propped open.

ENGINE SPEED

The engine speed was set at the factory

for optimum performance. Speed is not

adjustable.

• Close the flip lid. Flip lid must be closed

while operating lawn mower.

• Lift the rear door on the mower housing

and place the grass catcher frame onto

the formed tabs on the rear door hinge

mower housing when the rear door is

lowered onto the grass catcher frame.

• Raise wheels for low cut and lower

o Adjust cutting height to suit your require-

ments. Medium position is best for most

lawns.

sure all wheels are in the same setting.

NOTE: Adjuster is properly positioned

when plate tab inserts into hole in lever.

Also, 9-position adjusters (if so

equipped) allow lever to be positioned

between the plate tabs.

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

OIL

Your lawn mower is shipped without oil in

the engine.

• Be sure mower is level and area around

oil fill is clean.

• Remove engine oil cap w/dipstick and fill

to the full line on the dipstick.

o Use 20 oz& of oil. For type and grade of

oil to use, see "ENGINE" in Maintenance

section of this manual.

o Pour oil slowly. Do not over fill

• Check oil level before each use. Add oi! if

needed. Fill to full line on dipstick.

o To read proper level, tighten engine oil

cap each time°

• Reinstall engine oil cap and tighten,

- Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operation or each season_ You may need

to change the oil more often under dusty,

dirty conditions.

ADD GASOLINE

• Fill fuel tank. Use fresh, clean, regular

unleaded gasoline with a minimum of 87

octane. Do not mix oil with gasoline.

Purchase fuel in quantities that can be

used within 30 days to assure fuel fresh-

hess,

IMPORTANT: When operating in tempera-

tures below 32°F'(0°C), use fresh, clean win-

ter grade gasoline to help insure good cold

weather starting°

WARNING: Experience indicates that alco-

hol blended fuels (called gasohol or using

ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture

which leads to separation and formation of

acids during storage. Acidic gas can dam-

age the fuel system of an engine while in

storage. To avoid engine problems, the fuel

system should be emptied before storage of

30 days or longer. Drain the gas tank, start

the engine and let it run until the fuel lines

and carburetor are empty. Use fresh fuel

next season. See Storage Instructions for

additional information, Never use engine or

carburetor cleaner products in the fuel tank

or permadent damage may occur.

CAUTION: Fill to bottom of gas tank

filler neck. Do not overfill. Wipe off any

spilled oil or fuel. Do not store, spill or

use gasoline near an open flame.

TO START ENGINE

. To start a cold engine, push primer three

(3) times before trying to start. Use a firm

push. This step is not usually necessary

when starting an engine which has

already run for a few minutes.

• Hold operator presence control bar down

to the handle and pull starter handle

quickly. Do not allow starter rope to snap

back

• To stop engine, release operator pres-

ence control bar.

NOTE: In cooler weather it may be

necessary to repeat priming step& In

warmer weather over prim!rig may

cause flooding and engine will not start.

If you do flood engine, wait a few min-

utes before attempting to start and do

not repeat priming steps.

MOWING TIPS

o Under certain conditions, such as very tall

grass, it may be necessary to raise the

height of cut to reduce pushing effort and

to keep from overloading the engine and

leaving clumps of grass clippings.

o For extremely heavy cutting, reduce the

width of cut and raise the rear of the lawn

mower housing one (1) wheel adjuster

setting higher than the front for better dis*

charge of gras&

o When using a rear discharge lawn mower

in moist, heavy grass, clumps of cut

grass may not enter the grass catcher_

Reduce ground speed (pushing speed)

and/or run the lawn mower over the area

a second time.

• If a trail of grass clippings is left on the

right side of a rear discharge lawn mower,

mow in a clockwise direction with a small

overlap to collect the clippings on the next

pass.

• Keep top of engine around starter clear

and clean of grass clippings and chaff,

This will help engine air flow and extend

engine life.

• Pores in cloth grass catchers can

become filled with dirt and dust with use

and catchers will collect less grass. To

prevent this, regularly hose catchers off

with water and let dry before using.

MULCHING MOWING TIPS

IMPORTANT: Forbest performance, keep

mower housing free of built-up grass and

trash. See "Cleaning" in Maintenance sec-

tion of this manual.

• The special mulching blade will recur the

grass clippings many times and reduce

them in size so that as they fall onto the

lawn they will disperse into the grass and

not be noticed. Also, the mulched grass

will biodegrade quickly to provide nutri-

ents for the lawn. Always mulch with your

highest engine (blade) speed as this will

provide the best recutting action of the

blades

o Avoid cutting your lawn when it is wet

Wet grass tends to form clumps and in.

tefferes with the mulching action. The

best time to mow your lawn is the early

afternoon. At this time the grass has

dried and the newly cut area will not be

exposed to the direct sun.

• For best results, adjust the lawn mower

cutting height so that the lawn mower

cuts off only the top one-third of the grass

blades_ If the lawn is overgrown it will be

necessary to raise the height of cut to

reduce pushing effort and to keep from

overloading the engine and leaving

clumps of mulched grass. For extremely

heavy mulching, reduce your width of cut

by overlapping previously cut path and

mow slowly.

, Certain types of grass and grass condi-

tions may require that an area be

mulched a second time to completely

hide the clippings. When doing a second

cut, mow across or perpendicular to the

first cut path.

° Change your cutting pattern from week to

week, Mow north to South one week then

change to east to west the next week.

This will helLbprevent matting and grain-

ing of the lawn.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

The warranty on this lawn mower does not

cover items that have been subjected to

operator abuse or negligence, "fb receive

full value from the warranty, operator must

maintain mower as instructed in this man-

ual.

Some adjustments will need to be made

periodically to properly maintain your unit,

All adjustments in the Service and

Adjustments section of this manual should

be checked at least once each season_

= Once a year, replace the spark plug,

replace air filter element and check

blade for wear. A new spark plug and

clean/new air filter element assures

proper air.-fuel mixture and helps your

engine run better and last longer.

Always observe safety rules when pedorm-

ing any maintenance.

TIRES

• Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect

control chemicals which can harm rubber,

o Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharp

objects and other hazards that may

cause tire damage.

BLADE CARE

For best results, mower blade must be kept

sharp. Replace bent or damaged blades.

TO REMOVE BLADE

o Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannot come

in contact with spark plug.

• Turn lawn mower on its side. Make sure

air filter and carburetor are up.

. Use a wood block between blade and

mower housing to prevent blade from

turning when removing blade bolt.

° Protect your hands with gloves and/or

wrap blade with heavy cloth,

• Remove blade bolt by turning counter-

clockwise. Use a 9/16" box or open-end

wrench,

• Remove blade and attaching hardware

(bolt, lock washer and hardened washer).

NOTE: Remove the blade adapter and

check the key inside hub of blade adapter

The key must be in good condition to work

properly. Replace adapter if damage&

TO REPLACE BLADE

° Position the blade adapter on the engine

crankshafL Be sure key in adapter and

crankshaft keyway are aligned.

• Position blade on the blade adapter align-

ing the two (2) holes in the blade with the

raised lugs on the adapter.

• Be sure the trailing edge of blade (oppo-

site sharp edge) is up toward the engine.

• Install the blade bolt with the lock washer

and hardened washer into blade adapter

and crankshaft.

• Use block of wood between blade and

lawn mower housing and tighten the

blade bolt, turning clockwise.

• The recommended tightening torque is

35*40 ft. Ibs.

IMPORTANT: Blade bolt is grade 8 heat

treated.

NOTE: We do not recommendsharp-

ening blade - but if you do, be sure the

blade isbalanced.

TO SHARPEN BLADE

Care should be taken to keep the blade

balanced. An unbalanced blade will

cause eventual damage to lawn mower

or engine.

• The blade can be sharpened with a file or

on a grinding wheel. Do not attempt to

sharpen while on the mower.

• To check blade balance, drive a nail into

a beam or wall. Leave about one inch of

the straight nail exposed. P!ace center

hole of blade over the head of the nail. If

blade is balanced, it should remain in a

horizontal position. If either end of the

blade moves downward, sharpen the

heavy end until the blade is balanced

GRASS CATCHER

• The grass catcher may be hosed with

water, but must be dry when used.

o Check your grass catcher often for dam-

age or deterioration. Through normal use

it will wear. If catcher needs replacing,

replace only with a manufacturer ap-

proved replacement catcher. Give the

lawn mower model number when order-

ing.

DRIVE WHEELS

Check front drive wheels each time before

you mow to be sure they move freely.

The wheels not turning freely means trash,

grass cuttings, etc. are in the drive wheel

area and must be cleaned to free drive

wheels.

If necessary to clean the drive wheels,

check both front wheels.

• Remove hubcaps, hairpin cotters and

washers.

• Remove wheels from wheel adjusters.

o Remove any trash or grass cuttings

from inside the dust cover, pinion and/or

ddve wheel gear teeth.

• Put wheels back in place.

° If after cleaning, the drive wheels do not

turn freely, contact your nearest autho-

rized service center.

time the lubricant needs attention is if

LUBRICATION

Use only high quality detergent oil rated

with APiservice classification SF,SG, or

SHo Select the oil's SAE viscosity grade

according to your expected operating

Change after the first 25 hours of operation

at least once a year if the lawn mower is not

used for 25 hours in one year.

Check the crankcase oil level before starting

the engine and after each five (5) hours of

continuous use. Tighten oil plug securely

each time you check the oil level•

TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL

NOTE: Before tipping lawn mower to

drain oil, drain fue/tank by running

engine until fuel tank is empty.

clean surface.

° Tip lawn mower on its side as shown and

drain oil into a suitable container. Rock

lawn mower back and forth to remove

any oil trapped inside of engine

o Wipe off any spilled oil on lawn mower

and on side of engine.

• Fill engine with oil, Fill only to the "FULL"

line on the dipstick, DO NOT overfill.

• Replace engine oil cap.

o Reconnect spark plug wire to spark plug.

AIR FILTER

Your engine will not run properly and may

be damaged by using a dirty air filter.

Replace the air filter every year, more often

if you mow in very dusty, dirty conditions.

Do not wash air filter.

'TO CHANGE AIR FILTER

• Loosen screw and tilt cover to remove,

• Carefully remove cartridge.

o Clean by gently tapping on a flat sur-

face, If very dirty, replace cartridge,

CAUTION: Petroleum solvents, such

as kerosene, are not to be used to

clean cartridge. They may cause dete-

rioration of the cartridge. Do not oil car-

tridge. Do not use pressurized air to

clean or dry cartridge.

Inspect and replace corroded muffler as it

Change your spark plug each year to make

your engine start easier and run better. Set

spark plug gap at .030 inch.

CLEANING

IMPORTANT: For best performance, keep

mower housing free of built-up grass and

trash, Clean the underside of your mower

after each use.

CAUTION: Disconnect spark plug wire

from spark plug and place wire where it

cannot come in contact with the spark

o Turn lawn mower on its side,, Make sure

underside of your lawn mower by scrap-

electrical system, muffler, air filter and

carburetor are covered to keep water out

CLEAN UNDER DRIVE COVER

Clean under drive cover at least twice a

season. Scrape underside of cover with

putty knife or similar tool to remove any

build-up of trash or grass on underside of

REAR DEFLECTOR

The rear deflector, attached between the

rear wheels of your lawn mower, is provided

to minimize the possibility that objects will

be thrown out the rear of the lawn mower

into the operator's mowing position. If the

rear deflector becomes damaged, it should

be replaced.

TO REMOVE/REPLACE DRIVE BELT

. Remove drive cover. Remove belt by

pushing down on gear case pulley and

roll belt off,

• Tum lawn mower on its side with carbure-

tor and fuel cap up..

• Remove blade.

° Remove debris shield.

• Remove belt from engine pulley on crank-

shaft,

o install new belt by reversing above steps.

• Always use factory approved belt to

assure fit and long life.

TO ADJUST HANDLE

Your lawn mower handle can be raised or

lowered for your mowing comfort, Four (4)

positions are available: high, medium high,

medium low and Iow. Handles are shipped

mounted in the medium low position,

° To change from medium low to medium

high position, the upper and lower handle

sections will have to be turned over.

• Remove cable clips.

• Remove the controls and operator pres-

ence control bar from the upper handle.

• Remove hairpin cotters.

• Disconnect the lower handle from the

handle brackets°

• Turn the handl.e over and reassemble the

hairpin cotters that have been removed°

• Reassemble the starter rope guide.

• Reassemble the controls and the opera-

tor presence control bar to the upper han-

dle.

CAUTION: The operator presence

control bar must pivot freely to permit

blade brake engagement when control

bar is released. Do not over tighten

the fasteners holding the controls to tile

upper handle.

• To change from medium low to high posi-

tion only the upper handle section will

have to be turned over.

• To change from medium low to low posi.,

tion, only the lower handle section will

have to be turned over.

LAWN MOWER

When lawn mower is to be stored for a peri-

od of time, clean it thoroughly, remove all

dirt, grease, leaves, etc. Store in a clean,

dry area.

o Clean entire lawn mower (See "CLEAN-

ING" in the Maintenance section of this

manual).

• Lubricate as shown in the Maintenance

section of this manual.

o Be sure that all nuts, bolts, screws, and

pins are securely fastened. Inspect

moving parts for damage, breakage and

wear. Replace if necessary.

• Touch up all rusted or chipped paint sur-

faces; sand lightly before painting.

HANDLE

You can fold your lawn mower handle for

storage.

o Squeeze the bottom ends of the lower

handle toward each other until the lower

handle clears the handle bracketi!hen

o Loosen upper handle mounting bolts

enough to allow upper handle to be fold-

ed back.

IMPORTANT; When folding the handle for

storage or transportation, be sure to fold the

handle as shown or you amy damage the

FUEL SYSTEM

IMPORTANT; tt is important to prevent

gum deposits from forming in essential

fuel system parts such as carburetor, fuel

filter, fuel hose or tank during storage.

Also, experience indicates that alcohol

blended fuels (called gasohol or using

ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture

which leads to separation and formation of

acids during storage. Acidic gas can dam-

age the fuel system of an engine while in

storage.

o Drain the fuel tank.

, Start the engine and let it nJn until the fuel

lines and carburetor are empty,

o Never use engine or carburetor cleaner

products in the fuel tank or permanent

damage may occur:

o Use fresh fuel next season.

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable

alternative in minimizing the formation

of fuel gum deposits during storage,,

Add stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank or

storage container'. Always follow the

mix ratio found on stabilizer container_

Run engine at least 10 minutes after

adding stabilizer to allow the stabilizer

to reach the carburetor. Do not drain

the gas tank and carburetor if using fuel

stabilizer.

starts to rust. Rust and/or dirt in your

gasoline will cause problems

• If possible, store your unit indoorsand

cover that does not retain moisture. Do

not use plastic. Plastic cannot breathe

which allows condensation to form and

COMO USAR SU SEGADORA

PRECAUClON: No haga funcionar su

segadora sin el desviador de recortes o sin

el recogedor de c6sped, aprobados, en su

lugar. Nunca trale de operar la segadora

cuando se ha removido la puerta trasera o

cuando est#, un poco abierta.

VELOCIDAD DEL MOTOR

La velocidad del motor se estableci6 en la

fAbrica para un rendimJento 6ptimo. La

velocidad no se puede ajustar.

CONTROL DE ZONA DEL MOTOR

PREOAUOION: Las reguladones fed°

erales exigen que se instale un control

para el motor en esta segadora para

reducir a un mt'nimo el riesgo de lesionarse

debido al contacto con la cuchilla. Por

ningen motivo trale de eliminar la funci6n

del control del operador. La cuchilta gira

cuando el motor estA funcionando_

o Su segadora viene equipada con una barra

de control que exlge la presencia del oper-

ador, Io que requiere que el operador est_

detr&s de] mango de la segadora para hacer-

la arrancar y operada.

PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE CORTE

o Levante las ruedas para el coke bajo y baje

las ruedas para el coke alto.

• Ajuste la altura de corte para que se aco-

mode a sus requisitos. La posici6n del media

es la mejor para la mayorla de los c_spedes,

o Para camblar la altura de code, empuje la

GASOLINA

•Llene el estanque de combustible. Use

gasoltna regular, sin plomo, nueva y limpia

con el turn)me de 87 octanes. (El use de

gasolina con plomo aumentar& los depOsitos

de 6xido de plomo y carbono y se reducir_, la

duraeiSn de la vAIvula). No mezcle el acelte

con la gasolina. Para asegurar que la

gasolina utillzada sea tresca compre

estanques los cuales puedan ser utilizados

durante los primeros 30 dfas,

IMPORTANTE: Cuando se opere en temperaF

uras pot debajo de 32° F (0° C) use gasoltna

de cal_dadde Invbrmo, limpia nueva para ayu-

dara asegurar un buen arranque en clime frio_

ADVERTENClA: La experiencia ha indicado

qua los combustibles mezclades con alcohol

(conocidos come gasohol, o el use de etanol o

metanol) pueden atraer la humedad, la qua

conduce ala separacl6n y formael6n de _,cidos

durante el almacenamlento. La gasoline ac[dica

PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL Me-fOR

• Para hacer arrancar un motor frio, empuje el

cebador tres (3) veces antes de tratado.

Empuje firmemente. Este paso normalmente

no es necesario cuando se hace arrancar un

motor que ya ha estado funcionando per

unos cuantos minutes.

, Suiete ta barra de control que exige la pres-

encia del operador abajo en el mango y tire

el mango del arrancador r&pidamente.. No

permlta que el cord6n arrancador se devuel-

va abruptamente

• Para parar el motor, suelte la barra de con..

trol que exlge la presencia del operador.

ArIse: En climas m&s frfos puede que

sea necesario repetir los pasos det ceba-

do. En climas m_.s calurosos el cebar

demasiado puede producir el ahogo y el

motor no va a arrancar. Si se ahoga el

motor espere unos cuantos minutes antes

de tratar de hacerlo arrancar y no repita

los pasos del cebado.

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR

o Bajo clertas condiciones, tal come c_sped muy

alto, puede set neeesario el elevar la allera del

code para reducir el esfuerzo necesado para

empujar la segadora y para evitar sobrecargar

el motor, dejando mpntones de recedes de

c_sped. Puede qua sea necesario reducir la

velocidad del recorddo y/o haga funcionar la

segadora sobre el &rea per segunda vez.

,, Para un corte muy pesado, reduzca el ancho

dei corte pasando parclalmente per encima del

lugar antedormente cortado y siegue lenta-

manta.

• Cuando use una segadora con descarga

trasera en c6sped hQmedo y pesado, los men..

tones del c_sped cortado puede que no entren

en el recogedor de c_sped, Reduzca la veloci-

dad del recorfldo (velocidad de empuje) y/o

haga funcionar la segadora sobre el Area per

segunda vez.

• Siqueda una hueUade cortes en el lade dere,,

cho de una segadora con descarga trasera,

slegue en la direcci6n en qua giran las manilo

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR Y ACOLCHAR

IMPORTANTE: Para obtener el meier rendimein-

• La cuchilla acolchadora especial va a volver a

cortar los recortes de cesped muchas veces, y

los reduce en tamaSo, de mode qua si se

caen en el c_sped se van a dispesar entre

_ste y no se van a notar. Tambi_n, el c_sped

acelchado se va a deshacer r&pidamente

entregando substancias nutritlvas para el

c_sped. Slempre acolche con la velocidad del

motor (cuchilla) m&s alta, pues as[ se obtendr&

la meier acci6n de reeorte de las cuchillas.

- EvJtecortar el c6sped cuando est_ mojado El

c6sped mojado tiende a formar montones e

interfiere con la accl6n de acolchado. La meier

hera para segar el c_sped es temprano en la

Para obtener los mejores resullados, ajuste la

altura del code de la segadora de mode que

_sta code solamente et tercio superior de las

haya crecido dernastado, puede set necesado

el elevar la altura del corte para reducir el

esfuerzo necesado para empujar la segadora

y para evitar sebrecargar el motor, dejando

RECOMENDACIQNES GENERALES

La garantia de esla segadora no cubre los

articulos que hen estado sujetos al abuse o ala

Hay algunos ajustes que se tienen que hacer

CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLA

Para obtener los mejores resultados, la cuchilla

de la segadora tiene que mantenerss afilada.

PARA REMOVER LA CUCHILLA

• Desconecte el alambre de la buJfay pSngalo

en deride no pueda entrar en contecto con

• Haga descansar la segadora en su lade.

Asegurese que el filtro de airs y que el carbu-

fader queden mirando hacia arr_ba.

• Use un bleque de madera entre la cuchilla y la

caja de la segadora para evitar que la cuchilla

gire cuando se le quite el pemo.

" Proteja sus manes con guantes y/o envuelva la

cuchilla con una tela gruesa

• Remueva el pemo de la cuchilla gir&ndolo en

el sentido conlrado en que giran les manillas

del reloj.

• Remueve la cuchilla y los articulos de ler-

reterfa adjuntadores (el pemo, la arandela de

seguddad y la arandela endurecida)

AVISO: Remueva el adaptador de la

cuchilla y revise el cube interior de ta ranura

del adaptador de la cuchilla, La ranura tiene

que estar en buenas condiciones para que

funcione en forma adecuad& Cambie el

adaptador si est#, dafiado.

PARA CAMBIAR LA CUCHILLA

• Ponga el adaptador de la cuchi]la en el

ciguefial del motor. Asegurese que la ranura

del adaptador y que el chavetero del ciguefial

est_n alineados.

,, Ponga la cuchilla en el adaptador de _sta alin-

eando los dos (2) agujeros en la cuchilla con

las salientes elevadas en el adaptader

• Asegurese de que el horde de salida de la

cuchilla (opuesto al borde afilado) esl_ hacia

arfiba hacia el motor_

•Instale el perno de la cuchilla con la arandela

de seguridad y la arandela endurecida en el

adaptador de la cuchilla y el cigueiSal

• Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchilla y la

caja de la segadora y apriete el pemo de la

cuchilla glrandolo en el aentido en que giran

las manillas del relojo

• La torsi6n para apretar recomendada es de 35

- 40 pies libras

quede balanceada.

PARA AFILAR LA CUCHILLA

Se tiene que tener cuidado de mantenerla bal-

ancsada, Una cuchilla que no est,. balanceada

va a producir eventualmente daflo en la segado-

ra o en et motor

• La cuchiUa puede afilarse con una lima o en

una rueda rectificadora. No trate de afilarla

mientras se encuentra en la segadora

• Para revisar et balance de la cuchilla, clave un

clave en una viga o en la pared. Deje alrede-

dor de una pufgada de un clave reclo

expuestoo Ponga el agujero central de la

cuchilla sobre la cabeza del dave. SI la

cuchilla est& balanceada debe permanecer en

la posici6n horizontal. Si cualquiera de los

extremes de la cuchilla se mueve hacia abajo,

afile el extreme pesado hasta que Asia quede

balanceada.

RUEDAS DE IMPULSI6N

Revise las ruedas de impulsi6n delanteras cada

vez anles de segar, para asegurarse de que se

mueven ]ibremente.

Si las ruedas no giran llbremente quiere decir

que hay basura, recortes de c_sped, etc. en el

_rea de las ruedas de impc_lsi6ny tienen que

limpiarse para liberarlas.

Es necesario llmpiar las ruedas de impulsi6n;

revise ambas ruedas delanteras.

,, Remueva los tapacubos, las clavijas de

horquilta y las arandelas.

• Remueva las ruedas de los ajustadores de las

ruedas,

• Remueva la basura y los recortes de c{&sped

de dentro de la cubierta contra el polvo, p156n

y/o de los dienles de los _ngranajes de las

ruedas de impulsi6n.

viscosidad van ha aumentar el consume de

32 oF, Revise el nivel del aceite del motor m&s

a menudo, para evitar un posible daSo en el

motor, debido a que no tlene suficiente aceite.

Cambie el aceite despu_s de 25 horns de

operaci6n o por Io menos una vez al aflo si la

segadora se utilize menos 25 horas el a_o

Revise el nivel del aceite del c_.rterantes de

arrancar el motor y despues de cada cinco (5)

horns de uso contlnuado, Apriete el tap6n del

aceite en forma segura cada vez que revise el

niveI del aceite

PARA CAMBIAR EL ACEITE DEL MOTOR

AVISO: Antes de incliner la segadora para

drenar el aceite, drone el tanque de com-

bustible haciendo cotter el motor hasta que

el tanque est_ vacio.

DESVIADOR TRASERO

Se proporciona un desviador trasero, adjunto

entre las ruedas traseras de su segadora, para

reducir a un minimo la posibilidad que objetos

sean lanzados hacia afuera de laparle trasera

de ia segadora, en la posici6n en donde se

encuentra el operador. Si se daSa el desviador

debe cambiarse.

PARA REMOVER/CAMBIAR LA CORREA

IMPULSION

• Remueva la cubierla de la impulsi6n

Remueva la correa empujando hacia abajo en

ta pdea de ta caja de engranajes.

• Haga descansar la segadora en su lade con el

filtro de eire y el carburador mlrando hacia arri-

ba.

• Remuevala cuchilla,

,, Remueva la defensa en contra del desperdl-

cio.

• Remueva la correa de la polea del motor en el

ciguefial

lnstale la correa nueva siguiendo los pasos

anteriores en el orden inverse

- Siempre use ta correa aprobada per la f,_brica

para asegurarse que calce y dure.

" Para camblar de la poslcl6n medlana baja a

mediana alia, la secci6n superior y la inferior

del mango _endr_nque darse vuelta.

. Remueva las abrazaderas del cable

• Remueva los controles y la barra de control

que exige la presencis del operador del

mango superior,

o Remueva la guia del cord6n arrancador del

mango inferior,

o Remueva las clavijas de horqutlla.

• Desconecte el mango inferior de los punfales

del mango.

• De vuelta el mango y vuelva a montar las

clavijas de horquilla que se hab_an removido.

° Vueiva a montar la guia del cord6n arran°

cador.

o Vuelva a montar los eontroles y la barra de

control que exige la presencia del operader en

el mango su.peSor,

PRECAUCION: La barra de control que

exige la presencia del operador tiene que

pivotear libremente para permitir el

enganche de la cuchilla/freno cuando sa

suelta la barra de control. No apriete

dem#,siado los sujetadores que sujetan a

los controles al mango superior.

. Para cambiar de la posici6n de mediana baja

a alta solamente se tendr_ que dar vuelta la

secci6n del mango superior _

• Para cambiar de Is posici6n mediana baja a

baja, solamente se tend['&que dar vuelta la

secci6n del mango inferior.

MOTOR

VELOCIDAD DI=L MOTOR

La velocidad del motor ha side ajustada en la

fAbrica. No trate de aumentar la velocidad del

motor pues se pueden produclr lesiones per-

sonales, Si cree que el motor est_ funcionando

demasiado r&pido o demaslado lento, Ileve su

segadora a un centro/departamento de servicio

autorizado para repararla o ajustarla°

CARBURADOR

Su carburador no es ajustable Si su motor no

est'. funcJonando en forma adecuada debido a

problemas que se sospecha vienen del carbu-

fader, Ileve su segadora a un centre de servicJe

autorizado para reparafla y/o ajustafla

IMPORTANTE: Nunca manJpufee el regulador

del motor, el que ha side ajustado en lafabrica

ara la velicidaddel motor adecuada, puede ser

petigroso hacer funcionar el motor a una velo-

caded per sobre el ajuste de ata velocldad alla

regulada del motor neceslta ajuste, pongase en

contacto con su centre departamento de serv[-

cio autorazado mas cerano, el que cuenta con

el equipo adecuado y la experiencla para haac-

er los ajustes necesarios.

Inmediatamente prepare su segadora para el

almacenamiento al final de cada temporada o si

la unldad no se va a usar per 30 dfas o m&s.

SEGADORA

Cuando se va a guardai_la segadora per cierto

perfodo de fiempo, IfmpieIa cuidadosamente,

remueva toda la mugre, la grasa, las hojas, etc.

SISTEMA DE COMBUSTIBLE

IMPORTANTE: Es importante evitar que se for-

mealdepositos de partes fundamen_les del sis-

tema de comustible tales coma el carburador, el

lil_rodel cornbutible, la manguera del combustible

o en el eslanque duranle el almacenmiento La

experiencea tambien endica que los com-

bustibles mezclados con alcohol (conocido come

gasohol o que tienen etanol o metanol) pueden

atraer humedad, Io que conduce ala separati6n

y ala '_ormacl6nde acidos duranle almace-

mamiento la gasoline &cideca puede nailer el

sistema de combustible de un motor durante el

pefido de alcamenmiento.

•Drene el estanque de combustible

• Rage arrancar el motor y dejelo funcionar

hasta que las lineas del combustible y el car-

burador est_n vacfos.

• Nunca use los productos para limpieza del ear°

burador o del motor en el estanque de com-

bustible pues se pueden producir dafios per-

manentes.

• Use combustible nuevo la pr6xima temporada

AVISO: El estabilizador de combustible es

una atternativa aceptable pare reducir a un

mfnimo la formaci6n de dep6sitos de goma

en el combustible durante el perfodo de

almacenamiento Agregue estabilizador ala

gaselina en el estanque de combustible o

en el envase pare el almacenamiento.

Siempre siga la proporci6n de mezcla que

se encuentra en el envase del estabilizador,

Haga funcionar el motor per Io menes 10

minutos despu6s de agregar el estabi-

lizador, pare permitir que este llegue al car.°

burado[. No drene la gasolina del estanque

de gasolina y el carburador si se est#. usan-

do estabilizador de combustible.

ACEITE DEL MOTOR

Drone el aceite (con el motor caliente) y c&mbielo

con aceite de motor Ilmpio (Vea "MOTOR" en la

secci6n deMantenimiento de este manual,)

CILINDRO

• Remueva la bujfa,

• Vacie una onza (29 ml) de aceite a tray, s del

aguJerode la bujfa en el cilindro.

• Tire la manilla de arranque lentamente unas

cuantas veces pare distribuir el acelte_

• Vuelva a montar la nueva bujiao

OTROS

• No guarde la gasoline de una temporada ala

otra.

• Cambie el envase de la gasoline si se

empieza a oxidar. La oxidaci6n y/o la mugre

en su gasolina producirb,n problemas.

o Si es posible, guarde su unidad en un recinto

cerrado y cubrala para protegerla contra et

polvo y la mugre

° Cubra su unidad coo un forro protector ade-

cuado que no retenga ta humedad. No use

pl_stico El pl&stico no puede respirar, la que

permite la formaei6n de condensaciSn, 1oclue

producir& la oxidaci6n de su unidad.
