Maintenance,repair,or replacement ofthe
emission control devices and systems, which
are beingdone at the customersexpense,
may be performed by any non-road engine
repair establishment orindividual Warranty
repairs must be performed by an authorized
engine manufacturer's service outlet.
TO ADJUST THROTTLE CONTROL
CABLE
The throttle controlhasbeenpresetat the
factory and adjustment shouidnotbe
necessary.Checkedjustment as described
below before loosening ceble. If adjustment
is necessary, proceed as follows:
1. W'_ engine not running,move throffie
control leverfrom slow to choke position.
Slowly move leverfrom choke to fast
position.
2, Check that holes "A" in governor control
lever and hole in govemor plate line-up.
Ifbeles "A" are not aligned,k_san damp
screw and move thmttle cable until holes
are aligned. T_:Jhtendamp screw
securely.

TO ADJUST CARBURETOR
NOTE: The carburetoron thisengineislow
emission.It is equippedwith an idlefuel
adjustingneedle w_h a limiter cap,which
allows someadjustment within the limits
allowed bythe cap. Do not attemptto remove
the limiter cap. The limltercap cannot be
removedwithout breaking the adjusting
needle.
The carburetorhas been preset atthe factory
and adjustmentshouldnot be necessary.
However, minor adjustment may be required
to compensate for diffe_noasin fuel,
temperature,altitudeorload. Ifthecarburetor
does needadjustment,proceedas follows:
Ingeneral,turningidle mixturevalve in
(clockwise)decreasesthe supplyof fuetto
the enginegMng a leanerfueVairmixture.
Turningthe idle mixturevalveout (counter-
clockwise)increases the supplyoffuel to the
enginegMng a dcher fueVairm_ure.
IMPORTANT: Damage tothe needle valve
and the seatincarburetor may resultifscrew
is turned in too tight.
PRELIMINARY SETTING-
1. Air cleaner assembly must be assembled
to the carburetor when making carburetor
adjustments.
2. Be sure the thmttle controlcable is
adjustedproperly (see above).
FINAL SETTING-
1. Start engine and allow to warm for five
minutes. Make final adjustments with
enginerunning and shift/mat.ioncontrol
lever in neutral (N) position.
2. Move throttle centrol leverto slow
position.Withfinger,rotateand hold
thmttle lever againstidlespeedscrew.
Tam idlespeed screwtoattain1750
RPM.
3, While stillholding throttle lever against
idle speedscrew,turn idle mixture valve
full travelclockwise then counterclock-
wise untilenginerunsrough. Turn valve
toa pointmidway betweenthosetwo
positions.Releasethrottle lever.
ACCELERAT]ON TEST -
4. Movethrottlecontrolleverfrom slewto
fast position.Ifenginehesitatesor dies,
fum idle mixture valve out (ceunterdock-
wise)1/8 turn. Repeattestand continue
toadjust,ifnecessary, untilengine
accelerates smoothly.
Ftighspeedstop is factory adjusted.Do not
adjust- damage may result.
IMPORTANT: Nevertamperwiththeengine
governor,whichisfactory sat for proper
enginespeed. Overspeedingthe engine
abovethe factory highspeedsetting can be
dangerous.Ifyouth;nk the engine-.govemed
highspeed needs adjusting,contact a
Sears or other qualified service center,
whichhas proper equipment and expedence
tomake any necessary adjustments.
