A. Thisappliancehasa pilot which is lighted by a
piezoelectricigniter. Whenlightingthepilot,follow these
instructions exactly.
B. BEFORELIGHTINGsmell all aroundthe appliancearea
for gas.Besure to smell nextto the floor becausesome
gas is heavierthan air andwill settle onthe floor.
WHATTODOIFYOUSMELLGAS:
. Donot try to light anyappliance.
. Donot touch anyelectricalswitch; do not useany
phonein your building.
o Immediatelycall your gassupplier from a
neighbor's phone. Followthe gassupplier's
instructions.
o If youcannot reachyour gassupplier,call thefire
department.
C. Useonly your hand to push in or turn the gascontrol
temperatureknob. Neverusetools. Ifthe knob will not
push in or moveby hand,don't try to repairit, call a
qualifiedservice technician.Forceor attemptedrepair
may result in a fire or explosion.
D. Do not usethis applianceif anyparthasbeen under
water. Immediatelycall a qualified servicetechnician to
inspect the appliance.Waterheaterssubjectedto flood
conditions or anytimethe gascontrols, main burneror
pilot havebeensubmergedin waterrequirereplacement
of the entirewater heater.
DONOTUSETHISAPPLIANCEIFTHEREHASBEENAN
IGNITIONOFVAPORS.Immediatelycallaqualifiedservice
technicianto inspect the appliance.Waterheaters
subjectedto a flammablevapors ignition will show a
discoloration onthe air intakegrid (bottomof combustion
chamber)andrequirereplacementof theentirewaterheater.

before lighting the pilot.
Turnthegas controlltemperatureknobcounterclockwise_"_
to the"OFF" setting.

Waitten (10)minutesto clear outany gas.
If you then smell gas, STOP!Follow "B" in the safety
information above onthis label.If you do not smell gas,
go to the nextstep.

Turnthe gascontrol/temperatureknobclockwise
to "PILOT".

Press the gas control/temperature knob all the way in
and hold it in. The knob should travel in about 1/4 inch
(6.35 mm) if it is set to "PILOT" correctly.
While holdinq the qas controlttemperature knob in,
click the iqniter button continuouslv (about once a
second) for up to 90 seconds or until Status Liqht
beqins to blink.
Whenthe status light starts blinking, releasethe gas
control/temperatureknob. Set the gascontrol/tempera-
ture knobto the desiredsetting.
If the status light does not start blinking within 90
seconds, repeat steps 2 through 5 up to THREE (3)
times, waiting 10 minutes between lighting attempts.
The circuitry in this advanced qas valve requires that
VOUwait 10 minutes between liqhtinq attempts.
If the status light turns solid red, release the gas
controlttemperature knob and repeat steps 2 through 5
(waiting 10 minutes before attempting to relight the pilot).
If the status light does not start blinking after three lighting
attempts, turn the gas controlttemperature knob to "OFF"
and call a qualified service technician or your gas supplier.
