• Open battery box door.
DisconnectBLACK battery cable first
then RED battery cable and remove
battery from tractor.
• Rinse the battery with plain water and
dry.
• Clean terminals and battery cable ends
with wire brush until bright.
• Coat terminals with grease or petroleum
jelly.
• Reinstall battery (See =REPLACING
BATTERY" in the SERVICE AND
ADJUSTMENTS section of this manu-
al.

CheckV-beltsfor deterioration andwear
after100 hoursofoperationand replaceif
necessary.:Thebeltsare notadjustable.
•Replacebeltsiftheybegintoslipfrom
wear.
TRANSAXLE COOLING
The transmissionfan andcoolingfins
shouldbe keptcleanto assureproper
cooling.
Do notattempttocleanfanortransmis-
sionwhileengineisrunningor whilethe
transmissionis hot.
• Inspectcoolingfan tobe surefan
bladesare intactand clean.
• Inspectcoolingfinsfor dirt,grassclip-
pingsand othermaterials.To prevent
j:lamagetoseals,do notusecom-
pressedairor highpressuresprayerto
cleancoolingfins.
TRANSAXLE PUMP FLUID
The transaxlewas sealedat thefactory
and fluidmaintenanceisnotrequiredfor
the lifeofthe transaxle.Shouldthe
transaxleeverleakor requireServicing,
--contact yournearestauthorizedservice
center.
ENGINE
LUBRICATION
Only usehighqualitydetergentoilrated
withAPI serviceclassificationSF, SG or
SH, Selectthe oil'sSAE viscosity9rade
accordingtoyourexpectedoperatingtem-
perature.
NOTE: Althoughmulti-viscosityoils
(5W30, 10W30 etc.)improvestartingin
coldweather,thesemulti-viscosityoilswill
resultin increasedoilconsumption when
usedabove32°F.Checkyourengineoil
levelmorefrequentlytoavoidpossible
enginedamagefrom runninglowonoil.
Changetheoilafterevery25 hoursof
operationor atleastoncea yearifthe
tractorisnotusedfor 25 hoursinone
_ear.

ingthe engineandaftereacheight(8)
hoursofoperation.Tightenoilfill cap/dip-
sticksecurelyeachtimeyouchecktheoil
level.
TO CHANGE ENGINEOIL
Determinetemperaturerangeexpected
beforeoilchange.AlloilmustmeetAPI
serviceclassificationSF,SG or SH.
• Besuretractorisonlevelsurface.
• Oil willdrainmorefreely when warm.
• Catchoilin a suitablecontainer.
• Removeoilfillcap/dipstick.Becareful
nottoallowdirttoentertheengine
whenchangingoil.
• Removedrainplug.
• Afteroilhasdrainedcompletely,replace
oildrainplugandtightensecurely.
• Refillenginewithoilthroughoilfill dip-
sticktube.Pourslowly.Donotoverfill.
Forapproximatecapacitysee "PROD-
UCTSPECIFICATIONS=onpage 5 of
thismanual.
• Usegaugeonoilfill cap/dipstickfor
checkinglevel.Besuredipstickcap is
tightenedsecurelyforaccuratereading.

Air screen must be kept free of dirt and
chaff to prevent engine damage from over-
heating. Clean with a wire brush or com-
pressed air to remove dirt and stubborn
dried gum fibers.
