TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL (See Fig..13)
NOTE: Before tipping lawn mower to drain oi!, drain fuel
tank by running engine until fuel tank is empty.
o Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place
wire where it cannot come in contact with spark plug.
o Remove engine oil cap; lay aside on a clean surface..
- Tip lawn mower on its side and drain oil into a suitable
container.. Rock lawn mower back and forth to remove
any oil trapped inside of engine..
o Wipe off any spilled oil on lawn mower and on side of
engine.
° Fill engine with oil, Fill to the upper' limit mark on the
dipstick._ DO NOT OVER FILL,
o To read proper level, insert the dipstick into the tube
and rest oil fill cap on tl_e tube° Do not thread the cap
onto the tube.. Remove and read the oil level.
° Replace engine oil cap.
o Reconnect spark plug wire to spark plug.

AIR FILTER (See Fig. 14)
Your engine will not run properly using a dirty air filter.
Clean the foam pre-cleaner after every 25 hours of opera-
tion or every season. Service paper cartridge every 100
hours of operation or every season, whichever occurs first
Service air' cleaner more often under dusty conditions°
° Remove wing bolts and cover.
TO SERVICE PRE-CLEANER
o Remove foam pre-cfeaner from air cleaner cover.
• Wash it in liquid detergent and water_
o Squeeze it dry in a clean cloth,
o Saturate it in engine oil. Wrap it in clean, absorbent
cloth and squeeze to remove excess oil..
o If very dirty or' damaged, replace pre-cleaner..
o Reinstall pre-cteaner into air cleaner cover_
° Reinstall cover and secure with wing bolts.,
TO SERVICE CARTRIDGE
° Carefully remove cartridge to prevent debris from en-
tering carburetor. Clean base carefully to prevent
debris from entering carburetor.
° Clean cartridge by tapping gently on flat surface_ Ifvery
dirty or damaged, replace cartridge.
• Reinstall cartridge, cover with pre-cleaner and secure
with wing bolts..
IMPORTANT: PETROLEUM SOLVENTS, SUCH AS
KEROSENE, ARE NOT TO BE USED TO CLEAN THE
CARTRIDGE THEY MAY CAUSE DETERIORATION OF
THE CARTRIDGE. DO NOT OIL CARTRIDGE. DO NOT
USE PRESSURIZED AIR TO CLEAN OR DRY CARTRIDGE
MUFFLER
Inspect and replace corroded muffler as it could create a
fire hazard and/or damage..
SPARK PLUG
Change your spark plug each year to make your engine
start easier and run better-, Set spark plug gap at .030 inch..
CLEANING
IMPORTANT: FOR BEST PERFORMANCE, KEEP
MOWER HOUSING FREE OF BUILT-UP GRASS AND
TRASH. CLEAN THE UNDERSIDE OF YOUR MOWER
AFTER EACH USE.
I _ CAUTION: Disconnect spark plug wire
from spark plug and place wire where
it cannot come in contact with the spark
plug.
° Turn lawn mower on its side. Make sure air filter and
carburetor are up, Clean the underside of your lawn
mower by scraping to remove build-up of grass and
trash°
• Clean engine often to keep trash from accumulating, A
clogged engine runs hotter and shortens engine tife_
, Keep finished surfaces and wheels free of all gasoline,
oil,etc
° We do not recommend using a garden hose to clean
lawn mower unless the electrical system, muffler, air
filter and carburetor are covered to keep water out..
Water in engine can result in shortened engine life.
CLEAN UNDER DRIVE COVER
Clean under drive cover' at least twice a season. Scrape
underside of cover with putty knife or similar tool to remove
any build-up of trash or grass on underside of drive cover'.
