Check Engine Oil
Checkoil levelbeforeeachoperation.Besureoil levelis maintained.
1. Checkthe oil withthe enginestoppedand level.
2. Removethe oil fill dipstickandwipeit clean.
3. Insertand tightendipstick.Removeitto checkthe oillevel.
4. If the oil levelisnearor belowthe lowerlimit mark on the dipstick,
removethe oil fillercap/dipstick,and fill withthe recommendedoil
to the upperlimit mark.Do not overfill.
5. Reinstallthe oilfill dipstick.
Change Engine Oil
Gasolineand its vaporsare extremelyflammableand explosive.
Fireor explosioncancausesevereburnsor death.
Changeengineoil afterthefirst five hoursof operation,and everyfifty
hoursoronce a seasonthereafter.
lWhen drainthe oil from the oil fill the fuel tank mustbe

emptyor fuel canleak outand resultin a fire or explosion.Toempty
the fuel tank, runthe engine untilitstopsfrom lack of fuel.
1. Withengine off butstill warm,disconnectthe sparkplugwireand
keepit awayfromthe sparkplug.
2. Placea suitablecontainernextto the engineto catchthe usedoil.
3. Removethe oil fill dipstickanddraintheoil intothecontainerby
tippingtheenginetowardthe oil fillerneck.See Figure14.
Usedoilisa hazardouswasteproduct.Disposeof usedoil properly.
IDonot discardwithhouseholdwaste.Checkwithyourlocalauthori-
_tiesor SearsServiceCenterfor safedisposal/recyclingfacilities.
4. Withthe engineina levelposition,fill to the upperlimitmarkon
thedipstickwiththe recommendedoil.

debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,andcontrolsclean.
Keepareaaroundandbehindmufflerfreeof any combustible
debris.
Keepingenginecleanallowsairmovementaroundengine.
Enginepartsshouldbe keptcleanto reducethe riskof overheat-
ingandignitionof accumulateddebris.
Do not usewaterto cleanengineparts.Watercouldcontaminatefuel
system.Usea brushor dry cloth.

Blade Control
Lubricatepivotpointsonthe bladecontrolat leastoncea seasonwith

Wheels
Lubricatethe wheelsat leastoncea seasonwithlight oil (or motoroil).
Ifwheelsare removedfor any reason,lubricatethe axle boltand inner
surfaceof the wheelwith lightoil. SeeFigure15.
Grass Catcher Adapter
Lubricatethe torsionspringand pivotpointon eachendof the grass
catcheradapterdoorat leastonce a seasonwith lightoil to prevent
