Tires and wheels
Check the air pressure (2 P. 76), examine tread for wear and damage
(2 P. 76), and check the wheels for damage.
Fluid levels
Check the engine oil level (2 P. 83), engine coolant level (2 P. 85),
and brake fluid level (2 P. 87).
Lights
Check that the headlights, position lights, brake light, taillight, turn
signals, and license plate light are working properly.
Controls
Check the freeplay of the clutch lever (2 P. 92) and throttle grip
(2 P. 95). Check the front brake lever (2 P. 96) and rear brake pedal
operate properly.
Drive chain
Check the slack (2 P. 91), adjust the slack, and lubricate (2 P. 75) as
needed.
Fuses Check that you have a full supply of spare fuses.
Nuts & bolts Check the major nuts and bolts, and tighten as needed.
Periodic Checks
You should also perform other periodic
maintenance checks at least once a month
regardless of how often you ride, or more often
if you ride frequently.
Also, check the odometer reading against the
Maintenance Schedule and perform all
