#1 Can you paint the louvers?

Paint the louvers? Done carefully with spray enamel after cleaning should be okay--but adding weight/gumming up the works won't help, and if it goes badly you'll have a sorry mess to deal with--not recommended.

#2 After a few hours of use the fan motor was very hot is this normal?

How hot is hot? Can you touch it without quickly pulling away? If so your ok. The system has overheat protection. One thing to look at: Does the fan have adequate air flow. Make-up air is essential for this type of fan. The fan will move 3300 cfm at 0.00 static pressure. That's a lot of air. If you have this fan in an 8'x8'x8' room you will stall the fan and it will get hot.

#3 can you remove the shutters?

Yes, you can remove the shutters by taking out couple screws.

#4 Can I mount this fan vertically in a roof?

I do not think that would work when it rains. If your roof has a vertical element that is straight up and down and inset from the elements it would be fine. It move a good amount of air from my attic.
