This model icemaker does not have a drain system, you will have to manually do so. You can however leave the ice in the machine as it will melt and the melted ice will recycle itself and create new nuggets of ice. The time you leave the ice in the machine is up to the user, but continuous recirculation of meltwater may affect the taste.

The Opal cannot be hooked up to a water line and can only be used with the included side tank for extra capacity. This tank will hold an extra gallon of water to help make sure that you have ice available throughout the day and reduce how often you need to refill your machine.

There is not anything wrong when the unit shuts itself off. It just automatically takes a small break. This is normal if you have your ice maker running consistently.
