Prepare Uncoupling Membrane for Cable Insertion
Before installing the cable in the uncoupling membrane channels, ensure that all the surfaces on which
the membrane will lie are free of any sharp edges, debris or other restrictions that may cut or otherwise
damage the heating cable or membrane
Once the mortar has dried, determine which cable spacing you want to select, see Table 1 When you are
laying your cable out, ensure that the cable is at minimum of 1" (25mm) from the membrane edge and
no further than 6" (150mm) from the wall Do not increase cable spacing more than 3-3/4" (90mm), and
that there is a minimum of 15" (38mm) spacing between cable runs
Table 1
Cable Spacing Power Output Number of tabs per run
Standard 12 Watts/sqft
3 tabs (36")
Alternating 15 Watts/sqft 2–3 tabs repeat (30")
Note: Cable run spacing is for membranes with a tab spacing of 12" (30mm) +/- 005 For membranes
with dierent tab spacing, adjust the spacing by the percent dierence

Cable run spacing is for membranes with a tab spacing of 1.2” (30mm) +/- 0.05. For membranes with different tab spacing, adjust
the spacing by the percent difference.

Lace Cable Through Uncoupling Membrane
1. Inserting the cable into the pre-made channels and follow the appropriate spacing as
mentioned in 2.3B. Ensure that the cable is properly set inside the membrane so that the
surface of the membrane stays level (i.e. no cable is popping out of the membrane).
2. If any adjustment in the cable spacing is required, carefully pull out heating cable from the
channels and reposition.
