The normal tension setting is 4.0. The upper thread and the bobbin thread should cross near the center of the fabric. Only the upper thread should be visible from the right side of the fabric, and the bobbin thread should be visible from the wrong side of the fabric.

Setting the stitch length dial to the stretch stitch mark ("SS", "SS1" or "SS2") changes the selected pattern to a stretch stitch. Raise the needle by turning the handwheel toward you (counterclockwise) so that the mark on the wheel points up. Set the stitch length dial to the mark "SS", "SS1" or "SS2".
