Cuisinart FRC-1000 Questions and Answers

#1 Does this have a retractable cord?

We were unable to use either of the two Cuisinart Rice Cookers we bought long enough to remember if they had retractable cords or not! They both stopped working after a few months.

#2 Does it have heat resistant or heat proof legs or bottom that would make it safe placing (and cooking) on top of a ceramic/glass stove top?

Don't have experience putting on top of a ceramic/glass stove top. But why? It's perfectly safe and wise to just have it on your counter top.

#3 Has anyone made brown or basmati rice with this unit?

I have not made brown rice, I have made Basmati rice I put two scoops of rice I rinse the rice until the water drain clear, then add water to the 2 mark inside the pot plug it in and flip the switch to cook, let stand 5 minutes then fluff with fork.

#4 Does this work well for wild rice?

Yes any type of rice will work with this rice cooker. Just follow the cooking direction as with wild rice you may have to add more water or other ingredients to properly cook the wild rice. This is an excellent rice cooker so i am a bit surprise with some of the comments which really didn't answer your question.

#5 Just got this today and it won't turn on. Why?

After putting in the rice and water. You are plugging in the wall socket and then pushing down on the lever on the bottom right of the pot right? That turns it on and when the rice is done the lever pops up and a different colored light stays lit. When you are all done, you have to unplug the unit from the wall.

#6 Terrible rice cooker, boils over right away, water everywhere. Can I get my money back?

I have never experienced a boil-over, although the small steamer is just right for my wife and I who tend to make rice in two (dry) cup batches.

#7 What are the exact measurements for this machine?

Use a measuring cup. Not the one that comes with cooker. Use a little less water.
For a cup of rice use one and three quarters of water.
