Sony VRD-MC5 Questions and Answers

#1 Can I record my vhs tapes from the vcr with this recorder I do not have the camcorder anymore?

You can play your VHS tapes in a VHS tape player, and connect using RCA audio/video cables into the DV Direct. Put a blank DVD into the DV Direct and it will check it. On the next screen that comes up pick Video to DVD. For input select video. You should be able to see what the VHS is playing when you look at the tiny DV Direct screen. Cue it up, then press play on the VHS and Record on the DV Direct.

#2 Can any camcorder work with this, such as a Sharp brand, or does it have to be a sony camera/camcorder?

Any camcorder with an RCA AV output. It will also work with things like Video game consoles, VCRs, etc.

#3 Can i copy a dvd-rw from my dcr-dvd92 handycam to another dvd?

Yes indeed. Anything you can connect to the DVDirect through its included connectors (USB, RCA and SVHS) will successfully record to the device. And your DVD92 includes all of those connectors I believe.

#4 Will it work with Sony hi8 recorder?

thanks for your email, it will work with any video equipment, 8mm, Hi8, digital8, MiniDV, DVcam, HD and VHS/S vhs VCR.

#5 Can it record from a sd card out of a sony fdr-ax33 4k camcorder? If so how because it won’t recognize the two sd 4k cards i have

Because these recorders were made way before 4k and they only recognize older cards. Download the manual from the Sony website and it will tell you which cards it is compatible with.

#6 Whats the difference between vrdmc5 and vrdmc6? is the 6 a newer version?

The "6" is an update to the "5" and is smaller, but doesn't have the S-video input like the "5" has
