#1 When the battery runs out, can you still use the vacuum by just plugging it in?

No. The vac wont work plugged in. It needs to charge. This is a great handheld vac. Very powerful lil guy. Dyson quality product.

#2 This is cordless, correct? i want it for my suv.

It is cordless. Runs approximately 15 minutes on low. Love it for the car. This is the best had vac I have everowned. Believe me, there are many thrown away hand vacs in my past. You will love it!

#3 Can the tool accessories fit on this DC56 handheld..such as the long tube?

I believe so. I do not have the long/floor vac tube. But I've researched this myself and from what I understand, the connection is the same. I think there is actually a "floor" kit extension set that dyson sells for the hand vac.

#4 My filter button broke off, does it need to be secure for the unit to work?

Tape it down with duct tape
