BEFORE FIRST USE
1. Remove all packing materials and stickers from the inside and outside of slow cooker.
Gently wipe down exterior with a damp cloth or paper towel. Warning: Never immerse
the slow cookers housing or plug in water or any other liquids.
2. Use a sponge and warm, soapy water to wash the lid and cooking pot. The lid is
dishwasher safe. The cooking pot is NOT dishwasher safe. Do NOT use abrasive cleaning
agents or scouring pads.
3. Dry thoroughly.
4. Read all instructions and follow them carefully.
HOW TO USE
1A. If browning food on the stovetop before slow cooking:
a. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of oil, butter or other cooking fat to cooking pot.
Warning: Do NOT heat cooking pot without any contents.
b. SLOWLY heat cooking pot over medium until hot.
c. Add food to cooking pot in batches. Do NOT use metal utensils or tongs.
d. Once food is browned, carefully add remaining ingredients to cooking pot.
e. Turn off heat. Allow to cool until cooking pot can be safely handled.
f. Use protective mitts to transfer filled cooking pot to slow cooker housing.
1B. If NOT searing food before slow cooking:
a. Put cooking pot in slow cooker housing.
b. Put food in cooking pot.
Do not fill cooking pot more than 2/3 full.
Do not fill cooking pot less than 1/2 full.
If using a traditional recipe, reduce liquid amount by approximately 1/3. (Liquid does not
evaporate during slow cooking like it does when cooking on a stovetop or in an oven.)
Add enough liquid to just cover ingredients.
2. Cover cooking pot with lid.
Try not to remove lid to check food during cooking. Removing the lid will cause the
temperature to drop.
Lid is NOT oven-safe.
3. Select Low or High temperature.
Most recipes can be slow cooked on Low or High temperatures. Choose a temperature
based on your allotted cooking: Low usually requires 8-10 hours of cooking while High
usually requires 4-6 hours of cooking.
Large and/or tough cuts of meat typically benefit from slow cooking on Low—the longer,
more gentle cooking process allows meat to become more tender.
4. Use a separate timer to time food.
Generally, recipes cooked on Low temperature require about 8-10 hours of cooking.
Recipes cooked on High temperature require about 4-6 hours of cooking.
