#1 How many amps?

Requires two 40 amp breakers (80). Not 4 (160) you would only have room for this and an oven on 200 amp service. Also if you only have 100 amp service and don't want to upgrade to 200 amp, don't look at these.

#2 Can this unit be installed on a ranch house with 100 AMP electric service?

I have a 200 amp service for my 20' x 40' garage , for lights, power tools, 2 mini-split heating and a/c units and the Rheem water heater . The Rheem 240v heater required 2- 40 amp circuit breakers. i doubt you would be able to install this heater with your existing 100 amp service. Recommend you check with an electrician to determine how to increase your capacity for electric service.

#3 Rheem rtex-18 be big enough to heat water in my shop to wash my hands and perhaps take a shower in kansas city, mo?

Yes you could even go with the unit rtex-15 one smaller if that's it.

#4 How much power does this draw? 18 kW per hour?

I do know that you need 2 , 60 amp breakers. There is a content table you can Google to answer that question on how much per hour. I do know I love mine it works great !
