Sony SRS-XB402G Questions and Answers

#1 When I turn on my speaker, will it automatically reconnect to a previously paired device?

IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

Your speaker won't automatically connect to the previously connected Bluetooth® device. You'll need to instruct your smartphone, computer, or other Bluetooth device to reconnect to the speaker.

#2 What is the difference between an active subwoofer and a passive subwoofer?

A subwoofer (sub) is speaker, that is dedicated to the reproduction of low-pitched audio frequencies most commonly referred to as bass.

Passive Sub:

Passive subs are called passive because they need to be powered by an external amplifier or Audio/Video (A/V) receiver . This is similar to traditional speakers. The important thing to remember about a passive sub is that since the sub needs more power to reproduce low frequency sounds, the amplifier or A/V receiver needs to be able to send enough power to sustain bass effects reproduced by the sub without draining the power supply in the A/V receiver or amplifier.

Active or Powered Sub:

This type of sub is a self-contained speaker and amplifier. The speaker and amplifier are matched to for optimal performance and both are housed in the same enclosure. This takes a lot of the power load away from the A/V receiver and allows the receiver or amplifiers to just power the mid-range and tweeter speakers.

#3 How to pair the speaker system with a Bluetooth® wireless device.

Turn on the speaker system.
Set the Bluetooth function of the Bluetooth device to On.
Press and hold the PAIRING button on the system until the blue Bluetooth indicator begins to flash quickly.
NOTE: The pairing mode of the speaker system is cancelled after approximately 5 minutes, and the blue Bluetooth indicator light turns off. If the pairing mode is cancelled while performing this procedure, start over from step 3.

If SRS-BTD70 does not appear on the list of display devices, repeat from step 2.
If a Passcode input is being required by the Bluetooth device, use the code 0000.
NOTE: Passcode may be called Passkey, PIN code, PIN number, or Password.

#4 How to obtain replacement parts, accessories or software for a Sony product.

Replacement parts, accessories, and software for Sony® products can be obtained from Sony Parts and Accessories

#5 How to troubleshoot low sound level, unable to raise the volume, or other no sound issues.

To troubleshoot the issue, check the following.

For a low sound or no sound issue.
Check that both the connected device and the speaker are turned on and the volume is turned up.
Check if the connected device is playing back a music file.
If the connected device has functions or modes, set them to the appropriate ones.
When music files on your computer are playing back, check that the audio output settings of your computer, such as Bluetooth® settings, etc., are set correctly.
If your device is not connected to a Bluetooth device, try pairing the connected device with the unit once more.
Move metallic objects away from the speaker if there is one.
If your device is connected using a cord, temporarily unplug the cord and then firmly reconnect it to the terminals of the connected device and the speaker.
If headphones are connected, try disconnecting the headphones.
Depending on the product, ducts at the bottom of speakers may be covered by seals. Check whether they have been removed.
Cannot increase the volume.
Some of the Sony® portable audio players are designed to limit the volume level with the Automatic Volume Limiter System (AVLS) . The AVLS function is preset to ON. Although it is recommended to leave the AVLS setting on to protect the hearing of the listener, maximum volume cannot be achieved until the AVLS feature is turned Off.
NOTE: The procedure to turn the AVLS feature off varies by model. Some units have an AVLS switch, where other units offer the AVLS setting in the menu of the portable player. Consult the instruction manual of your portable player for specific information. Manuals are posted on your model support page.

If you are using external passive speakers, the power and volume for the speakers are drawn from the connected unit. Adjust the volume setting on your portable player in order to increase the level of sound coming through the speakers.
If the issue is not resolved.
Turn the unit off and back on. If there is a RESET function, perform a RESET. Refer to the operating instructions that came with product for further information.
