Translation of the original instructions
For safety reasons, children and young people under 16
aswell as anyone who is not familiar with this operator’s
manual should not use the product. Persons with reduced
physical or mental abilities may use the product only if they
are supervised or instructed by a responsible person. Children must
be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the product.
￫ Do not use the product if you are tired, ill or under the influence
of alcohol, drugs or medication.

1. Safety instructions
1.1 General safety instructions
Important!
￫ Read the operator’s manual carefully before use and keep for
future reference
1.2 Additional safety instructions
1.2.1 Intended use
The GARDENA Irrigation Computer is intended for private use
in domestic and hobby gardens and is only to be used outdoors
to control MDS irrigation systems. It must not be used inindustrial
applications or in combination with chemicals, foodstuffs or flam-
mable or explosive substances.
1.2.2 Safety instructions for batteries
￫ Keep the batteries away from children.
￫ Check the batteries regularly for damage.
￫ Do not use damaged batteries.
￫ Only use batteries of the same type, brand and state of
charge.
￫ Replace the battery if the battery symbol is red or orange.
This prevents the irrigation computer from failing when not
in use.

1.2.3 Additional electrical safety instructions
DANGER!
Risk of cardiac arrest!
This product generates an electromagnetic field during operation.
This field can affect the functionality of active or passive medical
implants and cause serious or fatal injuries (e. g. in the case of
apacemaker).
￫ Consult your doctor and the manufacturer of your implant
before using this product.
￫ Mount the irrigation computer vertically on the union nut on the
rain water tank.
This prevents water from entering the battery compartment.
1.2.4 Additional personal safety instructions
DANGER!
Risk of injury!
Risk of injury and risk of damage to the product.
￫ Do not use running water or a water jet (especially a high-
pressure water jet) to clean the product.
￫ Do not clean with chemicals, including petrol or solvents.
Somecan destroy critical plastic parts.
The temperature of the water flowing through must not
exceed 30 °C.
Only use the product at an operating pressure of 2 to 8bar.
￫ Avoid placing tensile stress on the hose (do not pull on the
connected hose).

2. Product description
2.1 Batteries
The batteries are not included in the scope of delivery.
The battery life is approximately one year. The battery life
can vary depending on ambient temperature and frequency
of program use.
Suitable batteries: 1.5V alkaline manganese (alkaline),
type AA (IEC LR6).

2.1.1
LED display for the batteries
The colour of the LED
indicates the state of charge of the
batteries.

Green Batteries OK. –
Orange (3 x every 10 sec) Batteries low. ￫ Replace batteries.
Red (3 x every 10 sec) Batteries flat. ￫ Replace batteries.
Note:
During manual irrigation, the LED
flashes two times at startup
corresponding to the state of charge.
Red: Batteries flat, the valve can no longer be opened.
However, an open valve will be securely closed.
￫ Do not remove the battery when irrigation is active, otherwise
thevalve’s electrical connection will be interrupted and the valve
will remain open.

2.2 DuoTap on rain water tank
The DuoTap is intended for installation on a rain water tank
(notincluded in the scope of delivery).
The GARDENA AquaReserve Rainwater Tank
Art.No. 16500 / 16502 is recommended.
The water supply must be provided by an automatic pump
(min. 2 bar outlet pressure, not included in delivery).
The GARDENA Automatic Pump Art. No. 1766 or
GARDENA AquaReserve Battery Pump 2400 Automatic 18V
P4A Art. No. 14606 are recommended.
The GARDENA Battery Rainwater Tank Pump 2400
ComfortAutomatic 18V P4A Art. 14605 must not be used.
The GARDENA Pump Connection Set Art. No. 16505 is
recommended.

2.3 Soil moisture sensor
To incorporate soil moisture, the GARDENA Soil Moisture
Sensor Art. No. 1867 must be connected.
If the sensor detects moisture, automatic irrigation is disabled.
2.3.1
LED display for the soil moisture sensor
If the LED
flashes red three times, the soil moisture sensor
battery is flat and must be replaced.

2.4 Operation
The DuoTap is equipped with a manual valve (tap)
and an
automatic valve. We recommend not using both outputs at the
sametime.
2.4.1 Automatic irrigation
The flow rate for optimal functioning of the irrigation computer is
between 80 and 160 l/h.
For optimal irrigation, we recommend a combination of 13 mm dis-
tribution pipe and 4.6 mm (3/16") application pipe. This allows an
application rate of up to 160 l/h to be achieved.
If only a 4.6 mm (3/16") pot pipe/distribution pipe is used, a lower
application rate is possible.
At flow rates below 80 l/h, irrigation is briefly interrupted at regular
intervals.
￫ Remedy: Connect more drippers to increase the flow rate and
adjust the irrigation duration if necessary.
Recommended Micro-Drip-Sets:
• 1362-20 Drip tube 4.6 mm (3/16"), 15 m
• 13400-20 Drip irrigation set for terrace
• 13500-20 Drip irrigation set for hedges / bushes (25 m)
• 14455-20 Drip irrigation set for raised beds / flower beds
The irrigation program for automatic irrigation is selected using the
rotary knob
.
The irrigation frequency is selected using the inner grey scale
inhours (h).
The irrigation duration is selected using the outer black scale
inminutes (min).

2.4.2 Changing the start time
After a program has been selected, the start time can be
adjustedin hourly increments within 3 seconds using the
button(max.+ 23 hours).
Each time you press the
button, the start time is postponed by
one hour.
2.4.3 Child lock
The DuoTap can be protected against accidental operation by
children (see “4.3 Activating / deactivating the childproof lock”).
2.4.4 Irrigation recommendations
The water requirements depend on:
• Type and age of plants
• Root type (shallow / deep)
• Location (shady / sunny)
• Soil type (light / heavy)

2.5 Storage
The product is not resistant to frost (below 5 °C).

3. Assembly
3.1 Inserting the batteries
1. Turn the rotary knob
to “OFF”.
2. Push the locking mechanism
and remove the battery
cover

3. Insert 2 x AA batteries
into the battery compartment

3.2 Installing DuoTap on a rain water tank

1. Ensure that seal
is pushed fully onto the thread.
2. Slide the inlet
of the DuoTap from the outside through the
opening
in the rain water tank.
3. Slide the seal
from the inside onto the DuoTap inlet
.
4. Screw the nut
from the inside onto the inlet
.
5. Screw the two tap connectors
onto the threads.
6. Connect the water pump to the DuoTap inlet
.
The DuoTap is ready for operation.

3.3 Connecting the soil moisture sensor
1. Open the rubber cap
.
2. Insert the soil moisture sensor cable
into the connection
socket of the DuoTap.
The LED
lights up green for 2 seconds.

4. Operation
4.1 Automatic irrigation
￫ Select the desired program using the rotary knob
.
The LED
lights up and initial irrigation starts.
The start time is now fixed and is retained even if another program
isselected.
4.1.1 Changing the start time
￫ Press the “+ ” button
within 3 seconds, several times if
necessary.
The LED
lights up green and the start time is changed
accordingly.
4.1.2 Resetting the start time
￫ Turn the rotary knob
to “OFF”.
The start time is reset and will be fixed again when a new
program is selected.

4.2 Manual irrigation
￫ Turn the rotary knob
to the “tap”.
The LED
flashes two times, manual irrigation starts and
lasts 10 minutes.

4.3 Activating / deactivating the childproof lock
4.3.1 Activating the childproof lock

for more than 4 seconds.
The LED
lights up orange for 2 seconds and the
childproof lock is activated.
4.3.2 Deactivating the childproof lock

again for more than 4 seconds.
The LED
lights up green for 2 seconds and the
childproof lockis deactivated.

5. Storage
1. Empty the rain water tank.
2. Unscrew the DuoTap from the rain water tank.
3. Remove the batteries.
4. Store the product in a dry, frost-free location.
5. Store the product out of the reach of children.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning the dirt filter

To clean the dirt filter
, the rain barrel should be emptied down
tothe hole.
1. Disconnect the hose from the DuoTap.
2. Unscrew the tap piece.
3. Remove the dirt filter
and clean it.
4. Push the dirt filter
back in as far as it will go.
We recommend cleaning the dirt filter
when starting up and
during winter storage.
6.2 Cleaning the DuoTap
￫ Clean the DuoTap with a soft, damp cloth.

11. Disposal
11.1 To dispose of the product
The symbol means that the product is not domestic waste.
Recycle it through your local collection system for electrical
and electronic equipment.
This contributes to proper end of life waste management. Contact local
authorities, domestic waste services, your GARDENA servicing dealer
or retailerfor information. Incorrect disposal may have potential negative
effects on the environment and human health, due to the potential
presenceofhazardous substances.
11.2 To dispose of the batteries
The batteries must not be disposed of with normal household
waste. They must be disposed of in line with local environmental
regulations.
1. Remove the batteries from the product.
2. Keep batteries away from children.
3. Ensure that the battery contacts do not short-circuit by placing
tape over them.
4. Only dispose of the batteries when they are discharged.
5. Dispose of or recycle the batteries in accordance with the
applicable local environmental regulations.
